    Where would you bolt the chain connecting to the harmonic balance for more leverage if you weren't planning on removing the waterpump.

      Watch the video I did while the engine was in the truck. It shows a better mount point for the chain.

    What size are thee pulley bolts? Mine got messed up but I have a hardware store nearby that has all sizes of bolts that look exactly the same

      @@JosephYellowfat they are a hardened bolt. I believe it’s M10x1.25. You’ll have to take one in and use their thread gauge or just grab a nut and test them. They might be M10x1.5. It’s been a long time since I’ve replaced any.

    Can you do one on removing and reinstalling turbo? I bought one with everything removed cause they were gonna replace turbo and never did. I have a stock turbo but not sure how to piece it together. They left a bucket of bolts and nuts.

    Just bought my first diesel ever. (1997 6.5 Detroit diesel) heard a bunch of horror stories but plenty of good ones too. Thanks for all the info you share on these diesels. Definitely makes me feel better about owning it with all the help you offer.
    It is all stock at this point with only the pmd relocated and a new lift pump. Would you suggest any other preventative maintenance items be replaced besides the harmonic balancer and pulley?
    Also does it necessarily need an intercooler? If so where can i buy one for it?

      Oil cooler lines and the balancer and pulley should be done right out of the gate. Beyond that not much I can think of. Go check out some of my newer videos were I talk about what’s worth it and what’s not. We all build our own DIY intercoolers because no one else’s a kit worth the money.

    That harmonic balancer is older than you? I think I will stay with a stock balancer then for my stock engine for $65. on sale . I don't want to pay $450. for a fluid dampener. Thanks

      Ok I got my 94 6.5 turbo almost new in 94 got 120000 miles it lives outside, haven't done much to it change oil is a fluid pully a big deal? Just asking thanks for the shows!!

    In your opinion.. are fluid dampers the best replacement?

    • @gingersnapcustoms
      @gingersnapcustoms  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Mostly because you never need to worry about it again when using a fluid damper. I’ve been having issues with the stock replacements being bad out of the box anymore.

      You chained it and did the whole 9 yards? Chain needs attached to one of the accessory pulley bolts

      I got the bolt out but when i put the balance puller in The balancer just kept spinning Im going to put the bolt back in And hook the balance puller back up and see if it comes off that way If not im just gonna put a pry bar on the fly wheel and try that way

      @@justingregory2731 Ok. Put the bolt in the end of the crank. No washer. Put the puller on. Push on the bolt head. Not the crank snout. Start there.

    So when replacing what do you recommend for balancer and pulley?

    • @gingersnapcustoms
      @gingersnapcustoms  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AC Delco replacement pulley. The billet unit from Leroy Diesel is nice. But it’s not a 100% need. I’d rather spend the money on the fluid damper. Run a stock pulley and save up for more upgrades.

  • @briancifreo3214

    Thanks for the video. What balancer and pulley did you replace with? My 6.5 is overdue for replacing them.

    • @gingersnapcustoms
      @gingersnapcustoms  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Normally I do a fluid damper. But on the truck I just snagged for the channel I’ll be running a stock AC delco balancer and pulley to show everyone the OEM fix.
