Ukraine's 'fight for existence': Poroshenko asserts 'negotiating' with Putin requires military force

- Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine's President from 2014 to 2019, joined Nadia Massih and Robert Parsons for an in-depth France 24 interview on Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine. He had "no explanation" for what Kyiv says was a Russian missile attack on a children's hospital that has sparked condemnation from around the world. He also urgently appealed for more weapons and air defenses from Ukraine's Western allies as NATO meets for a key summit in Washington. Regarding peace negotiations, and concessions, Ukraine's former president offered a resolute response. "Putin only understands the language of strength," asserted former President Poroshenko. "We have the best negotiator with Russia, the best diplomat in the world: The armed forces of Ukraine equipped with Western weapons." As for any willingness to accept territorial concessions as a part of a permanent peace settlement with Russia, the former president responded with a scathing rhetorical question: "What would be the reaction of France if Russia proposed to take Corsica in exchange for peace?"
