Larry Johnson was selected first overall in the 1991 NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets, and won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award in his first season. In 1993, Johnson was voted to start in that year's All-Star Game, making him the first Hornet in franchise history to receive that honor; he enjoyed his best statistical season with averages of 22.1 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game in 82 games, which earned him All-NBA Second Team honors. Along with Alonzo Mourning, Muggsy Bogues and Dell Curry, Johnson played with the Hornets at the height of their popularity in the early to mid-1990s. He had a total of 3 All Star selections in 5 years. But as time passed he had more and more personal problems with other NBA players and personnel and after a trade to the Knicks his production decreased steadily for the rest of his career. Walter Davis was the fifth pick of the 1977 NBA draft to the Suns. He made an immediate impact, playing in 81 games and averaging 24.2 points per game in his first season, which would also be his career-high. He won the 1978 Rookie of the Year Award, and earned second team All-NBA honors. Over his first ten seasons, Davis averaged over 20 points per game six times, and earned trips to six All-Star Games and twice All-NBA honours. His later years were less productive.
On a more somber and unfortunate list, Reggie Lewis of the Boston Celtics and Drazen Petrovic of the New Jersey Nets. They were just about to hit their very promising NBA potentials when their lives were lost way too early.
It's a travesty that Shawn Kemp is not in the HOF. His teams won. He was a 20 & 10 guy. 6x all star & he had played the same position in the West as Barkley & Karl Malone. Also a cultural icon and the most exciting player in the league. Shame on the Basketball HOF
The part that people forget is that it's the BASKETBALL hall of fame not NBA hall of fame so they take high school, college and NBA into account so thats why C Webb made it. A lot of people on this list were good in the NBA but didn't have hella impact coming up.
Blake Griffin and Amar'e Stoudamire will make the hall of fame. I hope Penny Hardaway as well as Gilbert Arenas can make the hall of fame because I personally think they should make it in and deserve it. Not a lot of nba fans are rooting for Penny Hardaway and Gilbert Arenas to make the hall of fame. I do think Derrick Rose can make the hall of fame. I would not be surprised if Deron Williams and Brandon Roy can make the hall of fame. I want Brad Daugherty to make the hall of fame because of his accolades along with being a five time all star. He was a really underrated player especially during the 1980s and 1990s with Michael Jordan taking over the spotlight as well as other dominant teams too.
Really sad about b-Roy, he just can’t catch a break, come back after an injury, only for him to suffer a worst injury. He basically have to retire because of the injury. While most on this list were never the same after the injury, at least they still manage a good career in the end.
Before his injury Grant Hill might have been the best player in post Jordan Era. His last season of greatness was when he was just 27 years old and then suffered an injury that reduced him to JAG. Thankfully Grant Hill did enough by the time he was injured to still make the HOF!
It was hard to make the East as a 2 guard. Jordan always had one spot then was between Reggie, Steve Smith, Drazen Petrovic, and Ray Allen for the other spot
I’m just glad tmac to the HOF.. if not he would be up there with Rose in this list. I was so happy for him when he made it he said it was a surprise to him. He knew other players respected him and the fans.. but finally the league acknowledged him.
Amare still amazes me almost 15 years later I still got him the constantly the most powerful inside game I've ever saw. He goes in that paint an bodies hit the floor.
Rose got hurt because of his landing style and he ran hard on his heels. I fear for Ja Morant as well, though it appears Morant’s father really trained him in his jumping and landings so hopefully he stays healthy. But Rose had a foreboding habit of landing on one leg.
Imagine if Portland had a prime healthy Brandon Roy and Damian Lillard on the same team. They'd be the best guard combo in NBA history and possible champs to contend with Curry and Golden State.
Why does it hurt for each name you mention? Geeez. This list is on point. All promising and well rounded piayers not getting enough recognition for their outstanding talent! ☹️
Acl and knee injuries altogether aren’t nearly as career altering today in 2022 as they were in the early 2000s. Wonder how a lot of these players would fair with today’s drs.
If McGrady got in Drose should get in some point in the future...McGrady was a scoring beast but his injuries hurt his career a lil too...I think being the youngest MVP should have a lil bit of strength over just multiple all star appearances
Of all of them though , D-Rose is the one that has a chance to still make it to the HOF . Just cuz he came back and reinvented his game (popped 60 with the T-Wolves) Brandon Roy I feel the most for though , he prolly was the best outside of Grant Hill and D-Rose
As a Bulls fan who went to U of I Rose and D-Will hurt the most. Despite being the most rigged lotto since NYC got Ewing, it was a blessing to see Chicago’s very own have a chance to finally lead that team over the hump until injuries and the person he hired bc he thought he could trust him the most, his brother, ruined both his career and public image in the city that wanted to love him as much as we loved the GOAT. As for D-Will, it was awesome to be on campus for that magical 2004-2005 run and later see him overtake Kendall Gill as the highest pick in school history. Unlike Gill who was a decent role player, he was a legit NBA superstar. Also ironic that Roy was after D-Will on this list as his coming out party was when his Washington Huskies upset my Illini in the NCAA tourney.
A couple name that comes to mind for me is Danny Granger and Bargnani, Ruday Gay. Granger was a superstar on that pacers team was one of my favorite players
Derrick Rose playstyle, the way he just gathers himself and lands, man I said to myself back then watching him in his rookie season, this guy won't last long with that style, it is so much painful to watch him play tbh..
I wonder if some of these players may have been able to extend their careers if they had access to today's training and sports medicine. Players today start their careers with trainers and sports medicine staff analyzing their specific body type, their running and jumping motion, their physical weaknesses, and are given a prescription for how to build muscle to insulate and protect their vulnerabilities. Course some don't seem to follow this advice(Zion), while others seem to embrace it fully(Giannis).
Agent 0 was my favorite PG when i was a kid. If he had at least a 5 year peak he would have a real shot at the HOF. And a lot of guys from the 2000s love him for his personality, maybe that helps too.
I’m surprised Tracy McGrady isn’t on this list. He was a beast during his Orlando days. And when he went to Houston, him and Yao could’ve been champions if injuries didn’t plagued the both of them.

If Grant Hill and Tracy McGrady were in the hall of fame despite having injury-laden careers, Penny Hardaway and Derrick Rose should be in too.
If Deron or Brandon Roy can make the HoF, Arenas for sure will.
Brandon Roy, D. Rose, Penny, and Grant Hill always always hurt as a fan looking back at their careers. Especially B. Roy
D Rose should probably be in the HOF. Most of these guys could make the HOF
I feel like you could make this case for John wall and Demarcus cousins
lets see you come back FULL strength and better after someone fall on your knee.. fyi some of the WORST injuries are when someone fall on you
Really sad about b-Roy, he just can’t catch a break, come back after an injury, only for him to suffer a worst injury. He basically have to retire because of the injury. While most on this list were never the same after the injury, at least they still manage a good career in the end.
Add Jerry Stackhouse to this list. He was a potential HoF but he also had the injury bug.
Thank you for this video. Atleast we can appreciate them thi
Before his injury Grant Hill might have been the best player in post Jordan Era. His last season of greatness was when he was just 27 years old and then suffered an injury that reduced him to JAG. Thankfully Grant Hill did enough by the time he was injured to still make the HOF!
Chris Webber made the HOF partly cause of his early achievements in college...IMO
That’s not just your opinion. That’s facts.
Michael redd and Danny granger are 2 lesser known names that come to my mind that could of had Hall of fame careers
Gilbert gets haircuts at my barbershop. One of the nicest guys I met who was famous. Told me Kobe stories no one knew about it
I’m Tripping over the fact that Reggie Miller only has 5 all star appearances 🤯
It was hard to make the East as a 2 guard. Jordan always had one spot then was between Reggie, Steve Smith, Drazen Petrovic, and Ray Allen for the other spot
O'Neil done said multiple times that if Penny didn't get hurt he wouldn't of left the Magic
Kevin Johnson belongs on this list.
I’m just glad tmac to the HOF.. if not he would be up there with Rose in this list. I was so happy for him when he made it he said it was a surprise to him. He knew other players respected him and the fans.. but finally the league acknowledged him.
Brandon Roy was looking like a top 50 all time player to me he had a lot of Jordan in his game
Amare still amazes me almost 15 years later I still got him the constantly the most powerful inside game I've ever saw. He goes in that paint an bodies hit the floor.
Stoudemire should be a hall of famer! He had a pretty good run from 2003-2004 to 2010!
Gilbert was right up there with Kobe and T-mac when it comes to scoring. He was one of a kind.
Fun fact: If Derrick Rose doesn’t make the hall of fame he’d be the first ever former MVP to not make it
Ralph sampson, tmac, kevin johnson, larry johnson, danny granger
All of these sting big time but Rose's was the most avoidable. That game his occurred in was already won but he was made to stay in.
D-Rose being robbed of a HoF career will always be painful
You can thank coach Thibs for that..
I think that injury was due. He was so twitchy and had a ton of mileage on his body young
Rose got hurt because of his landing style and he ran hard on his heels. I fear for Ja Morant as well, though it appears Morant’s father really trained him in his jumping and landings so hopefully he stays healthy. But Rose had a foreboding habit of landing on one leg.
Blake is a six time all-star. He should get in the Hall of fame.
Imagine if Portland had a prime healthy Brandon Roy and Damian Lillard on the same team. They'd be the best guard combo in NBA history and possible champs to contend with Curry and Golden State.
I love this kinds of videos you make. I think Shawn Marion deserve inducted in the Hall of Fame he anchor the defense of the suns team in mids 2000
Being the youngest MVP in NBA history should put him in the HOF period.
And he also got rookie to
Penny was the MAN in those NBA Jam days! Him & grandmama Larry Johnson.
Why does it hurt for each name you mention? Geeez. This list is on point. All promising and well rounded piayers not getting enough recognition for their outstanding talent! ☹️
Idk I think rose will go in. Not just on the youngest MVP ever but the fact he continued to play an evolve a new game plan
Acl and knee injuries altogether aren’t nearly as career altering today in 2022 as they were in the early 2000s. Wonder how a lot of these players would fair with today’s drs.
Griffin in his heyday was really a monster class superstar player.
His dunk shoots and alley-oops during the Clippers era were amazing.
If McGrady got in Drose should get in some point in the future...McGrady was a scoring beast but his injuries hurt his career a lil too...I think being the youngest MVP should have a lil bit of strength over just multiple all star appearances
As a bulls fan the Derrick rose injury made me cry when I was a kid rose is my childhood hero man it hit me the most smh😔😔😔😔😔💔💔💔
Of all of them though , D-Rose is the one that has a chance to still make it to the HOF . Just cuz he came back and reinvented his game (popped 60 with the T-Wolves)
Brandon Roy I feel the most for though , he prolly was the best outside of Grant Hill and D-Rose
People forget just how fucking SICK Arenas was!!! AGENT 0 would straight cook these dudes today lol
Among everyone on the list, Brandon Roy deserves it the most just for his heart alone..
A couple name that comes to mind for me is Danny Granger and Bargnani, Ruday Gay. Granger was a superstar on that pacers team was one of my favorite players
Brandon Roy would easily be the best SG in the league today.
Man if Roy and Oden would've stayed healthy. I think that's the NBA's biggest What if.
Derrick Rose playstyle, the way he just gathers himself and lands, man I said to myself back then watching him in his rookie season, this guy won't last long with that style, it is so much painful to watch him play tbh..
Back in the day Penny Hardaway is like a more athletic Magic Johnson too bad injuries derailed his career.
Amare isnt eligible yet due to playing in Israel in 2020 and 2021. Both him and Griffin are Hall of Famers in my opinion
10:15 Amare never tore his ACL. He had torn articular cartilage on his knee which forced him to get Microfracture knee surgery in the 2005 Offseason.
Well I mean we are watching a video made by a guy who doesn't know what a bust is.
@MyTake normally I'd agree with you, but seeing I just blew out my left knee I gotta say knee injuries are no joke.
@MyTake You do know there are different types of knee injuries right? What a stupid take.
Derek Rose has an MVP, he will likely still make the HOF
Gilbert Arenas, Brandon Roy ? Penny Hardaway & Derrick Rose imagine stay healthy whole career 🔥🔥🔥
Andy thanks for interesting topics always your the man
amare and blake would probably make it, just not first ballot
penny's case reminds me of grant hill... except maybe gh had a better ncaa career, a bit longer nba prime, and had some sort of a late career revival
DRose injury was the saddest day in Chicago sports history we still hurt from that 🥲🥲
As a nets fan I didn't expect a deron Williams mention
Would love to see a video of what if Len Bias and Reggie Lewis never passed away. I believe the Celtics would have won at least 3 more titles
The similarities of the nets in 2012era and now is so uncanny
