    En résumé : il faut préchauffer la chambre de combustion environ 5 minutes avec de l alcool puis ouvrir la vanne de diesel.( moderato,non tropo)

    About the custom support. It would be nice if they would have manuals off the (older) stoves to download. For ignition tips and tricks they forward to this youtube page. So if you find the Refleks support is good, your support is great!
    Thx for uploading.

      Thank you, Thomas :) I'm very glad you enjoyed the videos. The heater has been on for many days since uploading this video. I haven't had a single issue - other than running out of diesel in the middle of the night and that's hardly the heaters fault ;) Without question one of my favorite upgrades I've made aboard.

    Thanks Mads..just working on installing one of these:- A soot reducing tip is to not throw the match in...it can only produce soot ( in small quantities but over time etc) but use a long lighter to ignite the preheat? ( Taper, gas lighter, etc)

    Very well done! We have been restoring a Westsail 42 Ketch for the last 3 years after gutting the boat. We are now considering various boat heater options. Since we have a center cockpit, we also need to be able to heat the aft cabin. Your videos on this subject were stellar! Thank you. In time we will also create a channel to document our adventures.. In the meantime, yours is on our daily list! Fair Winds and Following Seas! s/v Harmony

    Tks for this detailled series about installing and running a Refleks. As I plan a living on a boat in 2016 (hopefully) on a Trimaran front East coast of Canada (around Nova Scotia) all year (inclusive winter) the heating system is a big issue... and as Tris have lack of space, its a specific issue to think about a "low space consuming" heating sytem, e.g. this 66 Refleks offers. Great, another problem solved in my pre-plannings on a long, long list of questions. Many tks... really appreciate it... and as already noticed by others: Great you show this patiency going through all the little tasks, challenges and problems ! I suppose it is one of the key factors to success (in any form of project). Happy & Safe sailing !

    Great detail.
    Thanks for the efforts, talent, time and honesty in your edits
    More than refleks ever offered in ANY installation details
    Always amazed at the lack of videos by major manufact. Of boat heaters, or the big 4-5 retailers if same
    I do still ponder the merits of say the 9000-12000 dickenson propane heater

      Finn Green Thank you, Finn :) I'm glad you enjoyed the videos. The guys at Refleks seemed to like my videos too. They are a tiny company, and I can see how spending time and money on a video may be a hard decision. Like I mentioned in one of the videos whenever I called them or needed support they were very forthcomming. My next boat will have a Refleks stove too that's for sure :)

    These stoves are great, but yours is still running very slightly rich, the flame shows signs of a yellow flame, wait until the stove is hot and been running a few hours and turn down the top end needle-screw half a turn each time until the yellow flame goes away....What you are looking for is a dancing blue flame......This is hotter and uses less fuel too..

      I had a Refleks stove and once the initial starting problems were sorted it ran forever without a problem
      Initially it would not start for us so rand refleks in Denmark and was told to light the stove with Meths and wait for the fire basket to glow red then introduce the diesel furthermore were advised to initially set the fuel at 3 or 4 When the fuel was lighting reduce the setting and the rest is history. Cannot recommend them enough The boat has since been sold

    Great series of vlogs on reflex’s stoves

  • @paulphillips82
    @paulphillips82 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had to replace my Dickinson Alaska heater because it's too hot for a smaller boat (34-foot sailboat). The Refleks 66M is much better. Lighting is not so easy, because there is no sight window and dropping a match in from the top is hit or miss, mostly miss. I think I will cut a small hole near the bottom so that I can use a lighter.
    My manual says to begin with 5 cc of alcohol, but I think this is typo. error, and they might mean 15, maybe even 50. It can light with as little as 5 cc, but not easily.
    So I admit about an ounce (or maybe 30 cc) of diesel and then turn off the valve. I use a video inspection device to see the diesel through the very small hole in the top of the stove. I carefully pour in the 5 cc of alcohol, and then drop in the match. It works, but not reliably. This method means the alcohol is burning on top of the diesel, but it makes sense anyway.

    In a previous series you mentioned the reflex will not work at more than 10 degrees of heel. is that correct. seems improbable considering how fish boats roll..but the heart of this thing is that damn regulator and it's float valve.

    Very nice video. Two little questions: did you make your heat screen yourself ? I cannot find a similar device at the refleks website. I mean a stainless steel heat protecting screen to build around the stove. What diameter copper pipe did you use (to transport the diesel). Is the use of fast couplings necessary, or do you need special tools to crimp the end of the copper tube ?
    Thanks !

    Hi Mads. Regarding the position of the stove. Would it be possibly to locate the stove closer to the mast and maybe at a higher level to avoid cutting the bed. You may now have som expierence with respect to the heat beam from the stove. Rgs Jørn

    Hi Mads, thanks for the great vids with reflex! I'd like to put a reflex 66 in my van. unfortunately I have noone here who owns one. Was it able to keep the boat at 20*C in like -10*C outside temperature? I could grab the next bigger stove but that means a bigger dia flu pipe as well.
    I also have fallen in love with the tiny cookplate on top of the 66. Have you tried heating water up there or is it more to keep things warm?
    Thanks and greetings from hamburg

      We do have the 66 in our RV van and boiling water on top of the oven is quicker than doing so on the electric oven.
      We need to run the oven on the lowest settings possible, because 1.4kw is more as needed for the RV

    What's the cost of running the stove?

    • @SailLife
      @SailLife  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Robert Larsen Check out this video :) th-cam.com/video/Py3_XBxy-ms/w-d-xo.html Of course, the cost of running the stove is going to vary greatly depending on several factors. I like it hot down below during the winter (25-29 degrees Celsius). Currently, the cost is somewhere between 100 USD and 200 USD.

    • @eljayarem3517
      @eljayarem3517 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Robert Larsen I read about 6 litres per 24 hours... as most boaters run the Refleks steadily 24h x 7d. So you can say every 4 hours one litre or 0.25 ltr / hour. E.g. as I plan a living on a boat front Canada East coast, with the diesel prize for now and calculating 5 months heating of one year, the monthly costs will be round about 55 Euros monthly in average (over whole year for 930 litres per year). So in total its roughly 660 Euros / year = 720 US dollars... if you calculate, that you can heat your water for tea and coffee, you can dry your clothes, too... effectively the heating costs will be lower. Actually for my land living I have 42% higher heating costs (same using the heating system over 5 month from Nov till April). Not too bad I would say... and the Refleks stovens arent too expensive with the benefit, no risks for problems with electronics as we know from Webasto and Epersbaecher.

    Mads, I am a psychic (or psycho) and I foresee big changes coming in your life! You will lose interest in Obelix and buy a bigger boat. You will spend your life and fortune working on it to make it completely different from what you liked when you bought it! You will meet a hot chick that will turn you to mush! I see you being "forced" out of your own country because of her! I forehear you acquiring a "brogue" to your speech! I can see a change of diet to haggis which is who-knows-what! But I see a LOT of smiles and more DIY stuff requiring many different 'thingies". So way off in the distant future, I will still watch, as long as that hot chick is in it! ;)
