I write this important information in English. Its quite easy to lite up an Refleks stove but this procedure is best to do. REMEMBER NEVER TRY TO LIGHT UP AN HOT REFLEKS STOVE that just had died the flames and dont look down with your eyes if is hot. never try to put in alchol or diesel, kreosone. Do like this: yhpu dont have problems or expose any risks. The stove is very safe and good good quality. This lite up procedure is to be done on every Refleks pot Burner new or old installation 1. First check that is no diesel in bottom of the burner pot. Open top cover and look down with an flashlight. (never do this if stove is hot) 2. If no "liquide" are found in bottom of the burner , thats good ,,,proceed with next step. 3. Open the regulator (the valve) just an little not fully open. wait about 15 sec to se if any diesel is drippin in slowly to the burner pot.. When you se any fuel comes then turn OFF the regulator (the valve). to prevent any more fuel to fill the burner. 4. Dont use as in the video matches and put this into the burner., use an small tissue of toliet paper insted of wood matches. put fire with an cigarette lighter the very small peice of toilet paper and let it drop down to bottom of the burner. 5. check in glass window or in the small "look hole" on the top cover if it paper i fire up the diesel. this will take some minits. 6.If you do like in this youtube clip and also put in Alcohol thogehter with diesel and also on the top of all miistakes have the regulator open (valve) it will burn like an red rocket for a while.... IF THIS HAPPEN TURN OFF THE REGULATOR (VALVE) !!!! 7. If every thing goes smooth and it start small burn nice and genlty after some minits turn on the regulator (valve) to the first level. 8 Then it is work very good and safe. The reason to use alcohol is to get som "hot air flow" in the exaust pipe (flue-pipe) to get the Refleks stove to get "self ventilation of exhauste gas to the flue pipe. Alhohol or Kreosone can also be used in winter time to get slow "diesel" to run better.. Im now in dec 2015 uses ton night self uses Refleks stove 5.6KW with heating coils to pump warm water round the ship to get very good heat. Refleks in Denmark produces very ggod and safe Heaters. I recommed all you folk to use them. Just remember some small start up procedures ant than it will be good and hot onboard. Regards fromwest coast of Sweden Gert
Hai , thanks for your video, i just tested my refleks 66, and it also turned red hot when i tried to turn it off, burning too hot, after ten minutes it stopped , is this normal or how can one prevent the stove from burning too hot when turning off? Thanks
Sounds to me like your regulator needs an adjustment. It sounds like its allowing too much diesel into the burn chamber. Though the Refleks does seem to have a couple of pretty basic design flaws. 1 the need to remove the top to light the stove from above (and the need for alcohol is a bit unusual). the fact that you need an overflow tank on a gravity system tells me that the regulator by design tries to pass too much diesel. Look at the Dickenson Newport heater for a better veersion of this design. opening glass for easy cleaning and lighting. No overflow tank required
/+Pierre Mitham .. There is no need for alchohol in Refleks to staret up.. The Canadian Dickinson heater models uses an 12/24Volt fan in start up procedure.... Refelks is totaly electric free!!!!....
+mr Gert actually that's not entirely correct. I wintered for 4 years with a Dickinson and rarely needed to use the 12v fan. The Dickinson doesn't need the additional alcohol to preheat with, just a little scrap of tissue and some diesel in the burner to get started.

+mr Gert Dickinson heaters also have they start up problems.
Should be nice and warm for the winter temperatures!
I think I would get the propane setup that you have over diesel.
Awesome DIY project
How are you getting on with your stove, I have a refleks 62 with radiator in the back bedroom. love it

Send the manufacturer the link to the video. Tell them their getting bad press until its resolved. But one thing is for sure it certainly does work.
Any resolve on this ?. Looked like a good heater, after sales may be lacking.
You need a longer match!

Incorrect air to fuel mixture causes the soot. Looks like to much fuel
