This movie is a classic. I first saw this in theaters with my mom & aunt when i was 9 years old at the $1.50 movie theater. Fun Facts: Michael Imperioli (Falco from Law & Order) was one of the students on the stage, Michael Blackson was in the audience chanting free Mr. Clark & Kennesha’s mom was in Losing Isaiah & Clockers. The late Sidney Poitier was the first choice to play Joe Clark, he declined because he didn’t agree with Joe Clark political views. Bill Cosby was the second choice but he was busy with The Cosby Show, Danny Glover was the third choice but he was busy with Lethal Weapon, Eddie Murphy was the fourth choice but he was booked & busy & Morgan Freeman was the final choice. Can we please get reviews on the following movies: Street Smart Glory Shawshank Redemption Bucket List
The opening sequence with Welcome to The Jungle playing…just iconic and disturbing all at once. They didn’t have to do the teacher how they did (bashed his head in)…and in the end the bullies shoved Sams in the locker, the girls went to go get help, and all you hear is Sams begging for help in the empty hallway😔
BiggJah low-key has a great younger Morgan Freeman impression. frfr. you both need to be on cable. the convo and insight is refreshing. much respect to you both.
Man this whole movie turned from a drama when I was kid to a straight comedy. Great job guys. I was dying laughing at yall review. Joe Clark being afraid of Candy man is hilarious
I taught at Eastside many years after the Joe Clark era. I worked with some of the real teachers, including the vocal music teacher. I heard many stories about that time period in the teacher's rooms.
This was Dope! I met Mr. Joe Clark while I was in college. I was responsible for picking him up from the airport and taking him back to His hotel after his speech at our school. He seemed very direct and intelligent.
Yoo…one of the funniest scenes was right after the boys sang the school song in the restroom…he runs the boys into Ms. Powers class…watch how he man handles Sams hahaha first he runs him into the door on the way in…BUT WATCH HOW HARD HE SLAMS HIM INTO THE PIANO LMAO!! it wasn’t scripted you can see how Sams breaks and laughs a little bit…probably saying in his head “Damn Mr. Freeman that low key hurt” lmaooo go watch it hahaha
@bigjah I was a former Ghost and was in the movie as a stunt fighter. The one who was beating up the teacher in the cafe..Cafe... but Joe Clark was sent to school #6 and that wasn't in the suburbs 🤦🏾♂️
I stumbled across this pod cast recently so I’m currently playing catch up. Haven’t come across it yet but after watching this episode I would love for yall to review “The Principal” especially with the passing recently of Louis Gosset Jr.
I love the fact my guy said that about the movie Malcolm X ..I absolutely love that movie and although it's controversial in more than one way(one being the accuracy) it still holds a special place in my heart not only because the phenomenal acting, directing, production, etc but because X was 1 of 2 of my real life "heros" (the other being Muhammad Ali...and I'm not even Muslim lol)...such an amazing man... BTW when y'all doing Malcolm X?
I used this movie when I was in for grad school. It was the only reference I had of a black principal in my life when talking about education philosophy and administration. will always honor this movie.
My brothas you keep bringing these classic movie reviews!!! Maybe Tony can slow down not jump to the middle and end of the movie so soon in the review. With respect!
We were station in Germany when this came out , it made kids scared to go back to the states... when we did why was my school definitely on track w east side high .. shout out Westridge orlando
Absolutely New Jersey drive and Lean on me are definitely in the same multi verse I'm all for that theory not so much juice that was Harlem but Fresh and Juice most definitely the same multi verse
The conspiracy theory about the angry mom who wanted to put Mr Clark in jail is that she’s the mother of the student that was waiting on the suitcase man/the one that tried to fight Mr Clark.
That 20 year span was rough. Civil rights and integration lead to white flight. Then deindustrialization of the cities and high black unemployment then...then crack is introduced.
Whew what a whirlwind of events to add to that. Civil rights, Vietnam, desegregation, white flight, the heroin epidemic in the 70’s, crack in the 80’s,
This revoew was dope. The only part i disagree with is Freedom Writers being bompared to Lean On Me. Freedom was also based on a true story. Just saying. Fire Review 🔥
That Joe JACKSON ish is not true, Mike wasn't even the group at first, Joe thought he was to young, he only let him in because he realized Mike was special. Joe was abusive, they all said so.
Glad yall did this but yall left out some and yall jump all around. Whatever happend to the dopeboy in the stonewashed fit btw? Yall did the voices and tone pretty right but everybody was on 10!😂 Yall needed to reflect that energy for the young folk that wasnt there.

My coworker went to the high school during this time with Joe Clark as the principal and she said it was truly like that in the movie
I can cosign this. My cousin also went to Eastside High when Joe Clark was the principal. She said Mr. Clark was about that life.

School 6 is definitely not in the burbs.
Just a small correction, it wasn’t revealed who but Miss Barrett did have a son. Early on in the parent meeting, she said “my son’s new criminal”.
She did, they missed that

Classic family movie for me . Joe was stern and the right man for the job who was gonna do it like that BatMan Lol
Ayeee those kid actors Made me forget I was watching a movie the first time I seen this movie. I was 8 going on 9 when I seen Lean On Me
He was a great, loving principal, but had bad people skills, under appreciated his staff, and it almost cost him.
As an AF veteran, i always LMAO at the auditorium scene cuz the main kid being kicked out/dragged out screams “IM GOIN TO THE AIR FORCE MAN!!!!” 😂😂
I stumbled across this pod cast recently so I’m currently playing catch up.
Haven’t come across it yet but after watching this episode I would love for yall to review “The Principal” especially with the passing recently of Louis Gosset Jr.
“I don’t gotta do nothing but stay black and die” 🔥

I'm 35. I saw this movie as a kid. Totally loved it from the first time I saw it. My parents had it on VHS.
Lean On Me will always be a classic. Great episode.
One of the reasons this film have plenty of heart, because it's from the same director of the original Karate Kid.
Another great review guys. This is the most mature and informative movie review podcast on TH-cam right now. 💯
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
I always thought that the student that pulled the knife on Mr. Clark was Ms. Barrett’s son. I think it’s alluded to somewhere in the movie.
These impressions are hilarious

Dope Classic Movie great review
Great debate! I personally would've put Childish Gambino/Donald Glover in that top 4 if we're judging off of talent.
“Dumb ass Sam’s” took me out 1:00:45

Lol lol lol" I ain't Michael Beech" .
The drug dealer at the beginning of the movie was a hero to me when I was a kid. Guys like that were in my neighborhood when I was a kid

Classic film and r.i.p to the real Joe Clark said it was 95 % accurate
I wonder what yalls take on this vs The George McKenna Story w/ Denzel which is basically the same movie and let's say 187 with Sam Jackson
