1948 Indian Chief Bonneville - Very Unique - 1 of 250 Chiefs from 1948 Painted Prairie Green

This is a very unique, one of 250 Indian Chiefs from 1948 painted in a prairie green color and delivered in 80-inch Bonneville trim.
This bike was found in a barn in the early 80’s, Check the barn picture provided. The bike changed hands twice since then and the current owner decided to make it a runner. Fortunately, he left it as barn fresh as possible. He purchased bit did not apply, new fender trim, new exhausts, new green grips, and a new seat. He cleaned what he could, serviced the bike and called it ready. He had trouble starting the bike, so he added the electric start and a 12-volt battery. This bike is a great runner with a new title and an electric start. It is ready for the road!

I had a '48 Chief that was Prairie Green too, it was my first Indian. Loved that bike. The color in this video is correct, it was a late '48 color offering.

When things are set correctly 2 primes and a kick when cold. One kick when warmed up. Speaking with 45 years of experience riding my 48 Chief. Something people forget is the carb is down hill when its on the kickstand. Stand it up then lean it back on the kick stand before putting the fire to it.

Yup, you are correct, This was not set properly during ths video... back in my learning days!

Something that might help others out is the distributor timing is set at full advance with the dollar sign in the timing window not the plus sign. The plus is TDC . I was told years ago that they stamped the dollar sign on the flywheel so it would be right on the money. Hope this helps , have a Blessed day

The green chiefs, were 'Desert green' a more insipid looking colour. Think this is a repaint..
