My wife has had one of these for 10 years and it is an excellent vehicle. We use it to tow a set of 5 gang mowers to cut the grass as we have 7 acres to mow. It is also very good in snow, but you have to be careful not to engage the 4WD lock accidentally on a dry road as this will damage the transmission. The gear box is "sealed for life" but of course it needs an oil change every few years and needs specialist automatic gearbox people to do this. Overall, an EXTREMELY reliable car and one we will not be changing for a long time. Much recommended!!!!!
Ive owned my 2004 murano sl awd for 3 years. Other than routine maintenance I haven't had any big catastrophic failures (Yet). I purchased the car with 169000 miles and it currently has 245000 miles. It is mainly a work vehicle now but everything still works and I have no plans on getting rid of it any time soon, I bought it for right under 3k dollars

Definitely YES. I bought a low mileage 56 Murano four years ago for less than £7k and it's a proved to be a great car. I know it hasn't got the bells and whistles of a Range Rover, but it has all the essentials including full leather, a Bose sound system as standard, and not least a sporty petrol engine taken from the Nissan 350 Z. And it's beautiful, still one of the best looking cars on the road despite the years. What's not to like? I would highly recommend.
fj717 uh? The Z50 Murano as tested here has an early and somewhat unreliable Japanese Jatco CVT. The later Z51 model had a much better Japanese Jatco CVT (Nissan part own Jatco). WTF do Renault have to do with the Nissan (American built) Murano. Some Renaults (eg the Korean built Koleos) have Jatco CVT transmissions. Only the very brave would buy a secondhand Renault with a Renault automated manual transmission - in comparison, the Jatco CVTs are fine but the Subaru CVTs are better to drive and the Toyota ones are more reliable over the long term.
I have had one of these for 4yrs. It is a 2006 with 150K registered miles, has been very reliable although I had to change the rear Diff as it failed. The only other areas that have needed attention over that period has been the replacement of Crank and Camshaft sensors plus wear and tear parts (Tyres, Exhaust system, Discs and pads). I am able to carry out the majority of work myself as they are not to complicated to work on. This keeps running costs down. I agree these cars are a pleasure to drive & make a good tow car.
I remember my dad used to have one of these like 10 years ago, it was a JDM example with a body kit that got rid of most of the ground clearance the car had. With the instruments and steering wheel from a 350z it felt sporty to drive too. It was a pretty posh ride upgrading to that from a base model 1996 Nissan QX 2.0 V6.
After owning Audis, BMWs, and Mercedes, I bought mine in 2016 (2008 model). Love it. Not changing it. Only downside, recently, is difficulty in getting parts for it. One last word on this great car is that it is ULEZ compliant!
I ran one of these for 2 years 2013 to 2015 bought it with 45000 miles got rid at 139000 miles totally reliable averaged about 22mpg, used it on and off road as a working vehicle, the 4wd was pretty good i, still miss it. They only have two specs everything and a sunroof, or everything no sunroof but video in the back. Sat nav was old but i used to put an i pad on the flat dash in front of the binnacle and use that. The dash is attached to the steering column and moves with it. Sold it for what i paid for it, replaced it with an xc90 wish i hadn’t.
Back in 2007 I really wanted my dad to get one of these, they were really nice cars in and out. But in retrospect I’m glad he got a VW R36 Estate instead, because 13 years later it’s still an amazing rare car.
Thanks for the video. I currently own a Canadian Nissan Murano SV 2018 AWD. It is a solid, super comfortable vehicle that is consistently able to tackle anything that the weather outside can give it. I totally agree with the gent from London about the overall comfort and sporty look. I had an Infinity FX before and this offers all the same features without the higher price. I love mine and would recommend it. Nissan in Canada is -- and has been -- a reputable brand for years.
I am in the US and I have an 07 model. I bought it second-hand with about 40,000 miles on it. It now has almost 200,000. I have done my own maintenance and I really like the car. I have a 2018 Mazda CX-5 as well and there are still a few things that the Murano has that the Mazda does not. For example, the 2 setting for the driver seat adjusts everything (both exterior mirrors, the seat, the brake pedal) except the inside mirror - important since I am almost a foot taller than my wife). It has all power windows (with one touch for both driver and passenger), heated exterior mirrors, and the sound system still seems better. I do not have the GPS in mine. I have the FWD only version, which I prefer - where I live, not much snow and I don't off-road with it, so I don't need the AWD. The FWD gets a little better mileage and has less to go wrong. I get 26-28 mpg (US) which is decent. The car is a pleasure to drive and also very comfortable for long trips - I have no issues for 8 hours straight driving. Mine has the D/S on the shifter, which I use all the time either to slow down for braking, or going down steep hills. The car is quiet (use good quiet tires). Some of the maintenance/issues I have had are: Had to replace an engine mount - they have a sensor that stiffens then during acceleration, braking - the rubber started cracking, power steering line leak, CV boot cracked spraying grease, change CVT fluid, oil changes, tune-up, renew struts/shock, tire pressure sensor batteries, rear hatch lift supports, interior ventilation fan relay, and routine brakes, belts and such. Overall, no issues with it. The rear brake pads will wear more, as the car applies them more during hard braking to prevent nose-dive. My interior leather seats are now starting to crack a bit (but it is now pretty old). The Rogue is a different vehicle. They still have Muranos here in the US - they are nice, bigger than the rogue, and very expensive for a new one.
Awesome vehicle, i took mine out for a long drive around the coast of cape town and loved it. Smooth, seamless gear change and not bad economy. You juat need to be soft with you accelerator foot. Awesome video, thamk you for all your great vids. Keep it up. Ive watched them all

I must admit I had completely forgotten about this vehicle and hadn't even paid much attention to it when it was new but, considering what you can get for such a cheap price with Japanese reliability and the fact that I will be looking into these type of vehicles by the new year, I think you might have just found me a great starting point.👍🏾 Thanks mate and keep up the good work.
I have one for 7 years now. its great car ! fast , comfy, lots of space. BOSE sound system magnificent. 200K + kms now all good! added 20 inch 275/45 wheels new battery and front shocks at 150K. drives like new still.
I currently have one of these. 2006 nissan murano SL fwd. I bought it 2 years ago for $3900 canadian and it had 121,000 miles (its an American car but im canadian). It currently has 150,000 miles on it and still runs great...mind you, I've pretty much had to replace everything but the engine and transmission. The alternators are notorious for failing on these. I replaced that after 3 months of purchasing, as well as all hub assemblys, all ball joints, all rotors & calipers, brake pads, all the fluids and a few other things like sway bars and link kits, wiper transmission/linkage. Most recent things that I just replaced were the Drive Shaft, tie rods, sway bars, link kits, Catalytic converter. The parts aren't cheap for this thing, even with it being 15 years old. I thought i was getting a lot of car for $3000-$4000 canadian but its been constantly falling apart and again, parts aren't cheap. I've done most the work myself and I couldn't imagine getting all of that replaced at a shop with $100 an hour labour fees.
To be fair, at 150,000 miles, you can expect to need new hubs, ball joints, rotors, calipers, brake pads.. Those things are all all "expendables" with 17 years and 150,000 miles (well, 15 years, when you wrote this). Catalytic converters... ditto. Now, the drive shaft and wiper parts, no. I own a 2006, and what you describe isn't much different from my experience. My only hope is that I can get rid of a small oil leak with a "high mileage" oil. The leak is slight, but I don't want to dump thousands into this thing to pull the transmission and repair a main seal.
My uncle bought one of these brand new. The transmission failed within the first year (luckily in warranty) and then later on had to get a full engine rebuild after another 2 or 3 this time out of warranty and spent like 10 grand on it. His Murano is one thing I'd never mention to him.
Wow sorry you had problems with your Murano. I bought my 2004 SE AWD loaded with dual exhaust pipes in December 2004. I still have it and it still looks good.
My auntie had exactly the same one with same colour, I loved how smooth and responsive it was for a crossover suv. That being said I’m here in Ireland and the tax on that thing in comparison to uk is around €1500 which is double with uk road tax
We have one right now. They are comfy. Make sure you do regular motor oil changes so the tensioner from the timing chain don't fail. Don't flush the cvt but just drain and fill up with specific nissan cvt oil. Lower control arms wear out fast but easy to replace, just buy an aftermarket brand like Moog, because oem are to expensive. When the Murano holds back with acceleration, check the rubber intake hose on cracks. Never engage awd lock while driving. It has 4 motor mounts, sometimes they go bad but are time consuming to replace. We have Vercelli strada tires, they are great on this vehicle. Few weeks ago with the snow we had amazing traction.
I owned one of these and recently sold it to a neighbour for 1500 quid. Great car but parts are VERY EXPENSIVE! The front section of the exhaust cost over 750 quid alone. I was always worried about the CVT gearbox which had a history of premature failure. Apart from that, It was a great motorway cruiser and it certainly stood out from the crowd. Good memories! It´s also called Murano in the US, the Rogue came out in 2007 as a replacement for the X-Trail (which never sold in the US), also it´s different from the FX35 or FX45 because those models are based on the 350z and the Murano is based on the Altima and Maxima, the only thing borrowed from the 350z is the engine, the Murano never had an Infiniti cousin, I think that´s because it was already very luxurious when it came out.
Just bought a 2004 Murano. I live in the States. Paid 1500 bucks for it. They do call it a Murano here, btw. I think I did okay. Plenty of power. Comfortable. Might start looking for some updates for it.
These things always looked futuristic, in a good way and always had a rare availability about them. It's weird when you get to see inside and hear about these once legendary vehicles. It blows away the mystique and brings them down to Earth/our level. Keep up with the reviews, although I guess being edgy/unique like this one is getting harder to source.
@@plutosplayground2082 I traded it in about 6 months ago after some smog was coming out through the tailpipe. It was still running great and it would only show when the car started. I didn’t want to put off getting another car too much longer. I still miss it.
Hi there, I ran one of these for three years and it was brilliant! Totally reliable and very reasonable Nissan main dealer servicing. Issues during ownership which you should take into account, spark plugs...there are six long life plugs. The front three are easy peasy to replace, the rear three needs the inlet manifold to be dismantled ... Cost was a surprise! They need replaced every 60k miles so check they have been done! ( Same issue on Lexus 300). Due to lack of use I needed a front caliper replaced and had to wait for week for Nissan to get one ( rare model!) Good points, fast, handles well, totally reliable and rear seats are HUGE and whole car was quiet and comfortable.....
A friend of mine bought a 2011 a couple of months ago (in NY) with about 109K miles for only $5400. The car was great when he picked it up from the seller. A week later, hundreds of codes, the main one being engine running lean. Turns out, this is quite common on these cars. The car has trouble getting going from a stop. Moral of the story: stay away from these. They look nice and luxurious, but driving one gets very expensive as it ages. The electronics are crappy, as is the CVT. Nissan quality has gone downhill since Ghosn took over in 1999. And if you are in the UK with your insane road taxes and fuel prices - oh, boy...
I gotta say, I was skeptical when we bought our '03, but I figured since it was cheap, we could just keep maintenance up on it until it breaks down. That was 8 years and 100k miles ago, and the only problems it has are the radio and bum catalytic converter 🤷♂️
Nice video. Here in the US, the Rogue and Murano are two different models (both still available). The Rogue starts at ~$25k and the Murano starts at ~$32k. However, Nissan's market share has been falling here recently.
I bought a Nissan Murano 2006 one month ago, did 7000 km so far, the car is running perfectly, it was having 169'000 km when I bought it. I asked my garagiste to check it, change the liquids, the bent of the alternator, the front breaks. the rest was is perfect condition. I'm very happy with it. Gas consumption is not quite higher than the average of an aged car: on the highway it's around 11 l/100, and in the city around 14, but it always depends how I drive it. For now I like to hear the engine at the departure or when I pass another car. Such an old lady still looking young.
I have Murano 1st gen 2005 US version, there is also EU version. It's funny car to drive around. I didn't had any major problems, but there are a lot of people out there that are having problems with CVT. Fuel consumption is acceptable for 1800kg and 240hp. It is a nice family car in my opinion. Good car for the money, as long as you threat the CVT well. If the CVT goes down you can start looking for another car . Rouge is a different car, more quashquai than a murano. I believe there is a 2 liter engine.
We own one of these. Have done since early 2020. She's a fantastic car. Never let us down with 135000 miles on the clock. We will be keeping her till she ends up at tge scrap yard
My aunt has always sworn by these, she's a real estate agent, and needed something with good rear leg room for taking clients, she's had 3 of them and has never had a single issue
Especially the SE AWD with the dual exhaust pipes. I bought mine in 2004 and still drive it at 195,700 miles. I always made sure the maintenance was kept up to date, including tires. It was a futuristic design with boise radio, 6 changer cd inside and not in the truck, sunroof, leather seats, heated seats. Got a lot of compliments when I travelled with that car. Very spacious and I carried a lot of big items in the car when the seats were down. Worth every penny I paid for it.
This car is amazing just bought a 06 Mo I am restoring it right now. Drives great 👍 this car will give you about 300k of life. Great family car to very spacious. Anyone looking for a good SUV this is the right one
I had one in Singapore for 8 years almost from new. Great motor, I drove up and down to KL every week for 3 years and it was solid, quiet and comfortable.. until the CVT started going. Shame they stopped making them.
Owned one for 5 years with lpg, done 250miles for £40,unfortunately we had to let it go ,125k and stated having issues abs plus some other bits ,glad I had one, so so comfortable and leg room in the rear was very good.
@@Oregon197 yeah i love all the features. Mine is the SL model which is pretty much the same as LE model. Love the heated seats and glass top with two moon roofs. Back seat fold back up electronically. Gps navigation, CD player, CD recorder&player, music box for recorded cds, even has RCA plug ins for a DVD player I guess. Its Iphone ready but i use Android so.I have to get aux connector to RCA to play audio on phone. Also of course it has Bluetooth for call audio that connects to cell phone. Also i love the intelligent key and push to start.
I had a 2005, which l found great..but very heavy steering in the car parks.. Then l had a 2010 model where the above problem had been rectified and it was also LPG which was fantastic...l found my motoring cost nearly halved. If you see traveling in the town or city at 30 mph or less you were using LPG at half the cost of petrol.. Brilliant car...love it to bits..
My parents had a 2006 Murano here in the US for years. They drove it new to 220,000 miles and it never had a major issue. It was still going strong when they traded it in. I even drove across the entire US with my friends in it, and my parents drove it back the other way across the country again. That was at about 160k miles on the clock. It just kept going and going. The Nissan/Renault merger would’ve had you think that these cars would not last, especially the CVT’s, but that was not my experience.
10 years ago, I bought another 30k luxury Nissan that didn't really fit the UK market - a 1998 Nissan Maxima QX 3.0 SEL in dark metallic green with 57k miles on the clock for the princely price of £850. Nissan was trying to compete with Audi, VW, BMW and Mercedes, but badge snobbery meant that just like the Murano, this was the wrong car for the UK. However, just like the Murano you tested, you get a lot of car for the money when you buy used and they are very reliable.
I simply love this car. I own this Murano for 5 years and everything is running smoothly. The transmission is underestimated, but I have no issues with that. I just changed the transmission oil which I can recommend like all the fluids in the car. Maintenance is the key. If you have no money for regular maintenance - don't buy a luxury cars or don't buy any car at all...
I own one myself and it's great on gas for me but I did have to put some work in it, plus side it's very dependable and safe not to forget it's cheap to fix. five star car.
I have one of these and it has been essentially faultless over the 10 years I have owned it EXCEPT for one thing owners MUST be aware of-------I had a leak from the sunroof because the drainage channels which pass down the A pillars had become blocked. As a result, the control unit for the airbags was damaged leaving the warning light on and the air bags non-functioning, an MOT failure.. The unit took months to arrive from Japan and cost £1080 PLUS VAT = £1,296 PLUS labour. An unexpected and unpleasant surprise! The drainage channels must be checked regularly and cleared if necessary. Otherwise, a fabulous car.
Rite. I’m a fan. Always have been. Facelift around 0959 is amazing and good looking and can be had with 2.2 Derv too. Just a great buy. Forget the jungle juice fill up costs doesn’t matter when peanuts to buy
2:19 not for the US, they're still making them there. You said something about this being called the Rogue in the US, that's a different model that is smaller than the murano. It's still called the murano in other world markets.
I haven't seen one of these for years so I had pretty much forgotten all about them. I think for an old car they still look fresh and modern and its great to see something a little different.
Great review, I have had one for the last 18 months. It is the only car I have not got bored of yet as a cheap daily. I am on lpg so running costs are quite reasonable (£30 for 200 miles). It is roomy, comfortable and great for carrying stuff. It fits a two seater sofa nicely whereas other 4x4/SUVs don't. The Murano is the definition of an SUV. Not an off-roader not a sports car but a great in-between. If you are interested in one check the CVT box, it has its oils changed regularly (if the box goes it will cost you more than the car). Check the driver's seat the bracket on the left is like a chicken wishbone, breaks very easily (common fault).
I have an 08 Murano. I find the mileage to be well over 30 on the motorway. CVT gearbox makes it cruise at 70-80 under 2000 rpm,that joined with the aro shape gives you surprising mileage returns. Mine has done over 140,000 and just keeps ticking along.
I bought one from Japan for $500 and shipped it to Malawi. Most Japanese don't keep their nice cars past 100, 000km and the servicing is of a high standard. Paintwork was a bit sun bleached but I didn't want something too nice looking as a holiday/relatives shared motor. Granted after taxes and duties the total cost was around £6000 but when I went out last August on holiday, I bloody loved it! Completely spec'd inside, a great sound from the engine, great for long drives (we did a lot of driving) and quick for overtaking. Plus I tried the AWD system by the lake to see if it was ok at getting out of sticky situations and it was fine. I wouldn't take it serious off roading though, as the suspension is set up for the road. We have needed to ship out some suspension parts as anyone who has been out there knows that once you get off the main roads, it is dirt tracks which hammers the suspension over time. Brilliant motor!
Presently drive a 2007 Murano SL-AWD.Has held up much better than comparable domestic cars which are quite rusted out and repair prone. Car is a good winter ride.The CVT has been trouble free. Everything still works. Would not buy a new one but wouldn't hesitate to suggest an older model. I notice here in Toronto that there are may similar age Murano's on the road in great condition. had a 06 one, issue with timing chain guilders, & its a engine out job.. so no change out of £1200 but other than that it was a good old girl. I would be tempted to buy another as i still think the 06-07-08 grill makes it look like amazing
Any earlier non-Hybrid Lexus RX seems to compare closest to the Murano in terms of power, reliability, equipment level and resale value nowadays. Some town-driven Murano's look bashed-about now, they are so wide. They won't be cheap to repair, either. Your car still looks really nice, though, and it's nice to finally hear about what they are like to drive. I enjoyed this review.
It's called the Murano here as well, the rogue is a smaller similar looking vehicle but they are two separate vehicles, the rogue is actually zippier because it's smaller and lighter
I ran one for a year and loved it. Very comfortable and practical. However there were a few issues getting parts. One small coolant pipe in the engine bay leaked and when i went to get a replacement it took my local Nissan garage a month to get it as it had to come in from japan costing me £70 for basically a bit of rubber. I was also aware of an issue that is supposed to affect the gearbox after a certain amount of miles (you can google it) and my car was at that limit so as I needed a reliable car to do hospital runs I traded it in for a Lexus LS430 that I still own. Very much a "marmite" car but normally hated by people who have never owned or sat in one. So yes, I agree if you need a cheap 4x4 that is good for tall fat people (like me) then its a no brainer as long as it has had the gear box serviced.
My suspension needed fixing and i had to wait for 8 weeks for the order to come through from japan. Front struts plus tie rod ends plus steering knuckles all cost me a whopping total 700 US! Not a cheap vehicle to maintain. Apart from this pitfall my friends compliment me a lot about how roomy and really comfortable this car is and super reliable .
I love my Murano. It has served me well in Australia. Superb car on long distance trips. It's very disappointing to hear in 2020 only the left had drive is being made.
Loved the torque steer with mine. Bought new ‘58 plate just before the mk2 for £18K. Put 142K miles on it. Even played tapes. Had no major breakdowns. Japperformanceparts saved me a fortune on bushes etc.
Just found your video because I bought one of these today... same year except kind of Maroon. I'm in Canada and they call it the Murano here as well. So far I like it. The dark red that I have looks great near sunset! Anyway so far I like it but a bit louder inside than I think it should for a semi-luxury vehicle. Very sporty looking even with those 18" tires. This is a gift from my Lord, I could not have the car that was setting on the show room floor but for the God going before me and making the deal and best of all below my budget that allowed me to drive off with my Nissan Marrone with all the bells and sonar, whistles and dry sets that with do both heat or cool my hinny 🤗 No fear, it has a safety feature that scared me when I first experienced that if you are coming into a school zone the car automatically takes you to the correct speed. Someone pulled out a little to late my car auto showed in a gentle way, not slamming me at all, just let me know this is so safe. Thank you for asking i pray God adds one like mine to your home.

It certainly has exclusivity; I can't remember seeing any of these on the road. Possibly because of its anonymous exterior design. As you say, it's a LOT of car for the money. Thanks for the reminder.... you're spot on about road tax, and indeed, a lot of other routine costs. These are liable to change anyway, depending on what mood the Government of the day are in.
I see the fuel economy rating is 18 city MPG, 23 highway. That's decent for a crossover with AWD that weighs 4k+ pounds and is a behemoth. Rides nice, handles like a car, not a crossover. It's unique. Reliability is questionable.
Just to clarify the Rogue is the baby brother of the Murano same speck smaller engine Rogue only comes in a 2.5l engine.... Love your show great stuff..
Aaron Dsouza Have you driven a CVT attached to a torquey 3.5L V6? It’s a different experience to a CVT on a gutless n/a 1.8L Corolla or 2.5L X-Trail. Super smooth, rapid acceleration without the common CVT drone.
@Junior. Very unlikely. You would have to find an auto transmission that would fit and could be connected to the Rogue’s engine. It would cost a lot of money to swap over and would devalue the car / void parts of the warranty. Much easier just to buy a Mazda CX-30 or CX-5 which are much better cars than the Rogue. Much better engines, smart 6 speed autos and a much better driving experience. Same for the CX-9 over the Murano.
We considered this vehicle when dipping our toe into the 4x4 market back in 07. Either the Nissan or an 07 Hyundi Sante Fe. We chose the diesel Sante Fe. They were selling the last of the pre face-lift Murano models of at £17k brand new! Still didn't change our minds though, running costs wise.
@Jim Barrows I can only speak for the Hyundi, but yes you're correct only a soft version, you could lock the rear diff with the press of a button. The Santa Fe was in 4 wheel drive all of the time. It did a great job but nothing like my next car which is a Discovery 4.
Ive recently purchased a 2005 silver murano with only 91,500 miles and it has been a pain. First, the car always needed jumpstarting since the battery was toast so we needed another one and the engine cover badge has dropped deep in the engine and is making an alarming knocking noise whilst driving and the satnav is useless. But the detuned 350z engine is amazing and the standard equipment is great. Nice use of £2000
I’ve just sold my Murano for spares A, 2005 model with 180k on the clock bought for £2000 as a ‘get me by’ car that I was going to keep for 6 months, that was 4 years ago! Finally let it go with 230000 miles on the clock as the newness was wearing off. Regard the road tax if you can get an older one (pre March 2005) it’s ONLY (HA!) £330 a year which is cheaper than my 2003 Mini Cooper S
I remember an old joke about Lucas Electronics being the inventor of darkness due to their unreliability. Today, Jatco is the inventor of failing Nissans. Their CVTs are notorious for breaking down way too soon. I miss the old, pre-Renault Nissan.
they do but of the time, BMW put a vulnerable GM box in their X5 and inflicted the same on the Range Rover of that era and they all fail at 140k miles. Cayennes and XC60's also had automatic transmissions that were designed to fail.

I went to Boston in 2006 to visit a friend I didn’t see in years and his sister picked me up in the airport in a brand new Nissan Murano she took possession of the previous week and I must say I loved it, couldn’t believe they came on the Irish market the same year but they never took off over here because of the road tax was €900 plus a year and also you either liked them or hated them? Hated would of been the latter over here. Great review as always.. Volvo XC 90 new model review would be greatly appreciated if one comes into stock.
We just bought a 2006 model- with only 52,000 miles... It's just like new! Looks- never sat in, and comes so loaded with options, it's so comfy, feels luxurious- and we paid$6500.00...!
While far from sporty, for people for which a car is an appliance the CVT is quite great. As long as you don’t put your foot down too much it can keep the engine pinned at ~1100 rpm while slowly picking up pace, making it feel almost like an electric car. It’s beyond me why not more carmakers include one for the low powered models to maximise comfort - keep the 7 speed for the big sporty engines and give me the smooth as butter cvt for hauling kids to school
In the USA, this car was just as it is here, a Nissan Murano. First introduced in 2002, this model(the one shown in this video) went for a model year of 2002-2007. This vehicle actually has no similarities to the Infiniti FX. The FX SUV is actually built on the same platform as the Nissan Z, just stretched a bit. This is what gave the FX a desirable sport characteristic for the time. The Murano shares a platform with the Nissan Altima/Maxima
Interesting, I'm looking for something roomy for road trips that can also do some light off road with some all terrain tyres fitted. I've been eyeing up V8 X5s and MLs and also V6 Porsche and VW. I used to have a first gen Outlander and it reminds me a lot of that. The tax is just one of those things, although sometimes you an go a year or 2 older and pay less as these where introduced 2005 not an option on the Murano.

My wife has had one of these for 10 years and it is an excellent vehicle. We use it to tow a set of 5 gang mowers to cut the grass as we have 7 acres to mow. It is also very good in snow, but you have to be careful not to engage the 4WD lock accidentally on a dry road as this will damage the transmission. The gear box is "sealed for life" but of course it needs an oil change every few years and needs specialist automatic gearbox people to do this.
Overall, an EXTREMELY reliable car and one we will not be changing for a long time. Much recommended!!!!!

Ive owned my 2004 murano sl awd for 3 years. Other than routine maintenance I haven't had any big catastrophic failures (Yet). I purchased the car with 169000 miles and it currently has 245000 miles. It is mainly a work vehicle now but everything still works and I have no plans on getting rid of it any time soon, I bought it for right under 3k dollars

Definitely YES. I bought a low mileage 56 Murano four years ago for less than £7k and it's a proved to be a great car. I know it hasn't got the bells and whistles of a Range Rover, but it has all the essentials including full leather, a Bose sound system as standard, and not least a sporty petrol engine taken from the Nissan 350 Z. And it's beautiful, still one of the best looking cars on the road despite the years. What's not to like? I would highly recommend.
Yeah, about that 350Z engine - it’s was detuned for the Murano, making 245bhp instead of the 350Z’s 285bhp.

fj717 uh? The Z50 Murano as tested here has an early and somewhat unreliable Japanese Jatco CVT. The later Z51 model had a much better Japanese Jatco CVT (Nissan part own Jatco). WTF do Renault have to do with the Nissan (American built) Murano. Some Renaults (eg the Korean built Koleos) have Jatco CVT transmissions. Only the very brave would buy a secondhand Renault with a Renault automated manual transmission - in comparison, the Jatco CVTs are fine but the Subaru CVTs are better to drive and the Toyota ones are more reliable over the long term.
I have had one of these for 4yrs. It is a 2006 with 150K registered miles, has been very reliable although I had to change the rear Diff as it failed. The only other areas that have needed attention over that period has been the replacement of Crank and Camshaft sensors plus wear and tear parts (Tyres, Exhaust system, Discs and pads). I am able to carry out the majority of work myself as they are not to complicated to work on. This keeps running costs down. I agree these cars are a pleasure to drive & make a good tow car.
I didn’t care for the styling when it came out, but it has grown on me, over the years. They sold tons of them in The States.
I remember my dad used to have one of these like 10 years ago, it was a JDM example with a body kit that got rid of most of the ground clearance the car had. With the instruments and steering wheel from a 350z it felt sporty to drive too. It was a pretty posh ride upgrading to that from a base model 1996 Nissan QX 2.0 V6.
After owning Audis, BMWs, and Mercedes, I bought mine in 2016 (2008 model). Love it. Not changing it. Only downside, recently, is difficulty in getting parts for it. One last word on this great car is that it is ULEZ compliant!

I ran one of these for 2 years 2013 to 2015 bought it with 45000 miles got rid at 139000 miles totally reliable averaged about 22mpg, used it on and off road as a working vehicle, the 4wd was pretty good i, still miss it. They only have two specs everything and a sunroof, or everything no sunroof but video in the back. Sat nav was old but i used to put an i pad on the flat dash in front of the binnacle and use that. The dash is attached to the steering column and moves with it. Sold it for what i paid for it, replaced it with an xc90 wish i hadn’t.

Back in 2007 I really wanted my dad to get one of these, they were really nice cars in and out. But in retrospect I’m glad he got a VW R36 Estate instead, because 13 years later it’s still an amazing rare car.
Thanks for the video. I currently own a Canadian Nissan Murano SV 2018 AWD. It is a solid, super comfortable vehicle that is consistently able to tackle anything that the weather outside can give it. I totally agree with the gent from London about the overall comfort and sporty look. I had an Infinity FX before and this offers all the same features without the higher price. I love mine and would recommend it. Nissan in Canada is -- and has been -- a reputable brand for years.

I am in the US and I have an 07 model. I bought it second-hand with about 40,000 miles on it. It now has almost 200,000. I have done my own maintenance and I really like the car. I have a 2018 Mazda CX-5 as well and there are still a few things that the Murano has that the Mazda does not. For example, the 2 setting for the driver seat adjusts everything (both exterior mirrors, the seat, the brake pedal) except the inside mirror - important since I am almost a foot taller than my wife). It has all power windows (with one touch for both driver and passenger), heated exterior mirrors, and the sound system still seems better. I do not have the GPS in mine. I have the FWD only version, which I prefer - where I live, not much snow and I don't off-road with it, so I don't need the AWD. The FWD gets a little better mileage and has less to go wrong. I get 26-28 mpg (US) which is decent.
The car is a pleasure to drive and also very comfortable for long trips - I have no issues for 8 hours straight driving. Mine has the D/S on the shifter, which I use all the time either to slow down for braking, or going down steep hills. The car is quiet (use good quiet tires). Some of the maintenance/issues I have had are: Had to replace an engine mount - they have a sensor that stiffens then during acceleration, braking - the rubber started cracking, power steering line leak, CV boot cracked spraying grease, change CVT fluid, oil changes, tune-up, renew struts/shock, tire pressure sensor batteries, rear hatch lift supports, interior ventilation fan relay, and routine brakes, belts and such. Overall, no issues with it. The rear brake pads will wear more, as the car applies them more during hard braking to prevent nose-dive.
My interior leather seats are now starting to crack a bit (but it is now pretty old).
The Rogue is a different vehicle. They still have Muranos here in the US - they are nice, bigger than the rogue, and very expensive for a new one.
Awesome vehicle, i took mine out for a long drive around the coast of cape town and loved it. Smooth, seamless gear change and not bad economy. You juat need to be soft with you accelerator foot. Awesome video, thamk you for all your great vids. Keep it up. Ive watched them all

I must admit I had completely forgotten about this vehicle and hadn't even paid much attention to it when it was new but, considering what you can get for such a cheap price with Japanese reliability and the fact that I will be looking into these type of vehicles by the new year, I think you might have just found me a great starting point.👍🏾

I have one for 7 years now. its great car ! fast , comfy, lots of space. BOSE sound system magnificent. 200K + kms now all good! added 20 inch 275/45 wheels new battery and front shocks at 150K. drives like new still.

I currently have one of these. 2006 nissan murano SL fwd.
I bought it 2 years ago for $3900 canadian and it had 121,000 miles (its an American car but im canadian).
It currently has 150,000 miles on it and still runs great...mind you, I've pretty much had to replace everything but the engine and transmission. The alternators are notorious for failing on these. I replaced that after 3 months of purchasing, as well as all hub assemblys, all ball joints, all rotors & calipers, brake pads, all the fluids and a few other things like sway bars and link kits, wiper transmission/linkage.
Most recent things that I just replaced were the Drive Shaft, tie rods, sway bars, link kits, Catalytic converter.
The parts aren't cheap for this thing, even with it being 15 years old.
I thought i was getting a lot of car for $3000-$4000 canadian but its been constantly falling apart and again, parts aren't cheap.
I've done most the work myself and I couldn't imagine getting all of that replaced at a shop with $100 an hour labour fees.
To be fair, at 150,000 miles, you can expect to need new hubs, ball joints, rotors, calipers, brake pads.. Those things are all all "expendables" with 17 years and 150,000 miles (well, 15 years, when you wrote this). Catalytic converters... ditto. Now, the drive shaft and wiper parts, no. I own a 2006, and what you describe isn't much different from my experience. My only hope is that I can get rid of a small oil leak with a "high mileage" oil. The leak is slight, but I don't want to dump thousands into this thing to pull the transmission and repair a main seal.
My uncle bought one of these brand new. The transmission failed within the first year (luckily in warranty) and then later on had to get a full engine rebuild after another 2 or 3 this time out of warranty and spent like 10 grand on it. His Murano is one thing I'd never mention to him.

@@salahkefah7047 do not go for it! I categorically don’t recommend it at all. Nissan has only made handful of reliable cars and this one is not!
We have one right now. They are comfy. Make sure you do regular motor oil changes so the tensioner from the timing chain don't fail. Don't flush the cvt but just drain and fill up with specific nissan cvt oil. Lower control arms wear out fast but easy to replace, just buy an aftermarket brand like Moog, because oem are to expensive. When the Murano holds back with acceleration, check the rubber intake hose on cracks. Never engage awd lock while driving. It has 4 motor mounts, sometimes they go bad but are time consuming to replace. We have Vercelli strada tires, they are great on this vehicle. Few weeks ago with the snow we had amazing traction.
Forgot to mention one, Citroen C6 , the french marmite, very much a classic on its way up I’d say 🙋♂️
I owned one of these and recently sold it to a neighbour for 1500 quid. Great car but parts are VERY EXPENSIVE! The front section of the exhaust cost over 750 quid alone. I was always worried about the CVT gearbox which had a history of premature failure. Apart from that, It was a great motorway cruiser and it certainly stood out from the crowd. Good memories! It´s also called Murano in the US, the Rogue came out in 2007 as a replacement for the X-Trail (which never sold in the US), also it´s different from the FX35 or FX45 because those models are based on the 350z and the Murano is based on the Altima and Maxima, the only thing borrowed from the 350z is the engine, the Murano never had an Infiniti cousin, I think that´s because it was already very luxurious when it came out.
Just bought a 2004 Murano. I live in the States. Paid 1500 bucks for it. They do call it a Murano here, btw. I think I did okay. Plenty of power. Comfortable. Might start looking for some updates for it.
These things always looked futuristic, in a good way and always had a rare availability about them. It's weird when you get to see inside and hear about these once legendary vehicles. It blows away the mystique and brings them down to Earth/our level. Keep up with the reviews, although I guess being edgy/unique like this one is getting harder to source.
I love my 2003 Nissan Murano. I got it in 2012 and it had 67,000 miles. It’s still solid at 128,000 miles (226,000 km)!

Hi there, I ran one of these for three years and it was brilliant! Totally reliable and very reasonable Nissan main dealer servicing. Issues during ownership which you should take into account, spark plugs...there are six long life plugs. The front three are easy peasy to replace, the rear three needs the inlet manifold to be dismantled ... Cost was a surprise! They need replaced every 60k miles so check they have been done! ( Same issue on Lexus 300). Due to lack of use I needed a front caliper replaced and had to wait for week for Nissan to get one ( rare model!) Good points, fast, handles well, totally reliable and rear seats are HUGE and whole car was quiet and comfortable.....
A friend of mine bought a 2011 a couple of months ago (in NY) with about 109K miles for only $5400. The car was great when he picked it up from the seller. A week later, hundreds of codes, the main one being engine running lean. Turns out, this is quite common on these cars. The car has trouble getting going from a stop. Moral of the story: stay away from these. They look nice and luxurious, but driving one gets very expensive as it ages. The electronics are crappy, as is the CVT. Nissan quality has gone downhill since Ghosn took over in 1999. And if you are in the UK with your insane road taxes and fuel prices - oh, boy...
I gotta say, I was skeptical when we bought our '03, but I figured since it was cheap, we could just keep maintenance up on it until it breaks down. That was 8 years and 100k miles ago, and the only problems it has are the radio and bum catalytic converter 🤷♂️
Nice video. Here in the US, the Rogue and Murano are two different models (both still available). The Rogue starts at ~$25k and the Murano starts at ~$32k. However, Nissan's market share has been falling here recently.

I bought a Nissan Murano 2006 one month ago, did 7000 km so far, the car is running perfectly, it was having 169'000 km when I bought it. I asked my garagiste to check it, change the liquids, the bent of the alternator, the front breaks. the rest was is perfect condition. I'm very happy with it. Gas consumption is not quite higher than the average of an aged car: on the highway it's around 11 l/100, and in the city around 14, but it always depends how I drive it. For now I like to hear the engine at the departure or when I pass another car. Such an old lady still looking young.

I have Murano 1st gen 2005 US version, there is also EU version. It's funny car to drive around. I didn't had any major problems, but there are a lot of people out there that are having problems with CVT. Fuel consumption is acceptable for 1800kg and 240hp. It is a nice family car in my opinion. Good car for the money, as long as you threat the CVT well. If the CVT goes down you can start looking for another car . Rouge is a different car, more quashquai than a murano. I believe there is a 2 liter engine.
We own one of these. Have done since early 2020. She's a fantastic car. Never let us down with 135000 miles on the clock. We will be keeping her till she ends up at tge scrap yard

Especially the SE AWD with the dual exhaust pipes. I bought mine in 2004 and still drive it at 195,700 miles. I always made sure the maintenance was kept up to date, including tires. It was a futuristic design with boise radio, 6 changer cd inside and not in the truck, sunroof, leather seats, heated seats. Got a lot of compliments when I travelled with that car. Very spacious and I carried a lot of big items in the car when the seats were down. Worth every penny I paid for it.
This car is amazing just bought a 06 Mo I am restoring it right now. Drives great 👍 this car will give you about 300k of life. Great family car to very spacious. Anyone looking for a good SUV this is the right one

I had one in Singapore for 8 years almost from new. Great motor, I drove up and down to KL every week for 3 years and it was solid, quiet and comfortable.. until the CVT started going. Shame they stopped making them.

Owned one for 5 years with lpg, done 250miles for £40,unfortunately we had to let it go ,125k and stated having issues abs plus some other bits ,glad I had one, so so comfortable and leg room in the rear was very good.

@@Oregon197 yeah i love all the features. Mine is the SL model which is pretty much the same as LE model. Love the heated seats and glass top with two moon roofs. Back seat fold back up electronically. Gps navigation, CD player, CD recorder&player, music box for recorded cds, even has RCA plug ins for a DVD player I guess. Its Iphone ready but i use Android so.I have to get aux connector to RCA to play audio on phone. Also of course it has Bluetooth for call audio that connects to cell phone. Also i love the intelligent key and push to start.
I had a 2005, which l found great..but very heavy steering in the car parks..
Then l had a 2010 model where the above problem had been rectified and it was also LPG which was fantastic...l found my motoring cost nearly halved. If you see traveling in the town or city at 30 mph or less you were using LPG at half the cost of petrol..

My parents had a 2006 Murano here in the US for years. They drove it new to 220,000 miles and it never had a major issue. It was still going strong when they traded it in. I even drove across the entire US with my friends in it, and my parents drove it back the other way across the country again. That was at about 160k miles on the clock. It just kept going and going. The Nissan/Renault merger would’ve had you think that these cars would not last, especially the CVT’s, but that was not my experience.

10 years ago, I bought another 30k luxury Nissan that didn't really fit the UK market - a 1998 Nissan Maxima QX 3.0 SEL in dark metallic green with 57k miles on the clock for the princely price of £850. Nissan was trying to compete with Audi, VW, BMW and Mercedes, but badge snobbery meant that just like the Murano, this was the wrong car for the UK. However, just like the Murano you tested, you get a lot of car for the money when you buy used and they are very reliable.
I simply love this car. I own this Murano for 5 years and everything is running smoothly. The transmission is underestimated, but I have no issues with that. I just changed the transmission oil which I can recommend like all the fluids in the car. Maintenance is the key. If you have no money for regular maintenance - don't buy a luxury cars or don't buy any car at all...

I own one myself and it's great on gas for me but I did have to put some work in it, plus side it's very dependable and safe not to forget it's cheap to fix. five star car.
I have one of these and it has been essentially faultless over the 10 years I have owned it EXCEPT for one thing owners MUST be aware of-------I had a leak from the sunroof because the drainage channels which pass down the A pillars had become blocked. As a result, the control unit for the airbags was damaged leaving the warning light on and the air bags non-functioning, an MOT failure.. The unit took months to arrive from Japan and cost £1080 PLUS VAT = £1,296 PLUS labour. An unexpected and unpleasant surprise! The drainage channels must be checked regularly and cleared if necessary. Otherwise, a fabulous car.
Rite. I’m a fan. Always have been. Facelift around 0959 is amazing and good looking and can be had with 2.2 Derv too. Just a great buy. Forget the jungle juice fill up costs doesn’t matter when peanuts to buy
2:19 not for the US, they're still making them there. You said something about this being called the Rogue in the US, that's a different model that is smaller than the murano. It's still called the murano in other world markets.

For me it was the best looking SUV in 2004, and still now, it looks very nice even if it has the Nissan badge.

I have had one for the last 18 months. It is the only car I have not got bored of yet as a cheap daily.
I am on lpg so running costs are quite reasonable (£30 for 200 miles).
It is roomy, comfortable and great for carrying stuff. It fits a two seater sofa nicely whereas other 4x4/SUVs don't.
The Murano is the definition of an SUV. Not an off-roader not a sports car but a great in-between.
If you are interested in one check the CVT box, it has its oils changed regularly (if the box goes it will cost you more than the car).
Check the driver's seat the bracket on the left is like a chicken wishbone, breaks very easily (common fault).

I have an 08 Murano. I find the mileage to be well over 30 on the motorway. CVT gearbox makes it cruise at 70-80 under 2000 rpm,that joined with the aro shape gives you surprising mileage returns. Mine has done over 140,000 and just keeps ticking along.

Watch out at 180k. Trans has issues there. Most cvts from nissan do around that mileage.
I bought one from Japan for $500 and shipped it to Malawi. Most Japanese don't keep their nice cars past 100, 000km and the servicing is of a high standard. Paintwork was a bit sun bleached but I didn't want something too nice looking as a holiday/relatives shared motor. Granted after taxes and duties the total cost was around £6000 but when I went out last August on holiday, I bloody loved it! Completely spec'd inside, a great sound from the engine, great for long drives (we did a lot of driving) and quick for overtaking. Plus I tried the AWD system by the lake to see if it was ok at getting out of sticky situations and it was fine. I wouldn't take it serious off roading though, as the suspension is set up for the road. We have needed to ship out some suspension parts as anyone who has been out there knows that once you get off the main roads, it is dirt tracks which hammers the suspension over time. Brilliant motor!

Presently drive a 2007 Murano SL-AWD.Has held up much better than comparable domestic cars which are quite rusted out and repair prone. Car is a good winter ride.The CVT has been trouble free. Everything still works. Would not buy a new one but wouldn't hesitate to suggest an older model. I notice here in Toronto that there are may similar age Murano's on the road in great condition.

had a 06 one, issue with timing chain guilders, & its a engine out job.. so no change out of £1200 but other than that it was a good old girl. I would be tempted to buy another as i still think the 06-07-08 grill makes it look like amazing
Any earlier non-Hybrid Lexus RX seems to compare closest to the Murano in terms of power, reliability, equipment level and resale value nowadays. Some town-driven Murano's look bashed-about now, they are so wide. They won't be cheap to repair, either. Your car still looks really nice, though, and it's nice to finally hear about what they are like to drive. I enjoyed this review.

It's called the Murano here as well, the rogue is a smaller similar looking vehicle but they are two separate vehicles, the rogue is actually zippier because it's smaller and lighter
I ran one for a year and loved it. Very comfortable and practical. However there were a few issues getting parts. One small coolant pipe in the engine bay leaked and when i went to get a replacement it took my local Nissan garage a month to get it as it had to come in from japan costing me £70 for basically a bit of rubber. I was also aware of an issue that is supposed to affect the gearbox after a certain amount of miles (you can google it) and my car was at that limit so as I needed a reliable car to do hospital runs I traded it in for a Lexus LS430 that I still own. Very much a "marmite" car but normally hated by people who have never owned or sat in one. So yes, I agree if you need a cheap 4x4 that is good for tall fat people (like me) then its a no brainer as long as it has had the gear box serviced.
I wornder if you could have got one from Iran. They were made there under license from 2010-2015
My suspension needed fixing and i had to wait for 8 weeks for the order to come through from japan. Front struts plus tie rod ends plus steering knuckles all cost me a whopping total 700 US! Not a cheap vehicle to maintain. Apart from this pitfall my friends compliment me a lot about how roomy and really comfortable this car is and super reliable .

I love my Murano. It has served me well in Australia. Superb car on long distance trips. It's very disappointing to hear in 2020 only the left had drive is being made.

Loved the torque steer with mine. Bought new ‘58 plate just before the mk2 for £18K. Put 142K miles on it. Even played tapes. Had no major breakdowns. Japperformanceparts saved me a fortune on bushes etc.

Just found your video because I bought one of these today... same year except kind of Maroon. I'm in Canada and they call it the Murano here as well. So far I like it. The dark red that I have looks great near sunset! Anyway so far I like it but a bit louder inside than I think it should for a semi-luxury vehicle. Very sporty looking even with those 18" tires. Thanks for sharing this video.

This is a gift from my Lord, I could not have the car that was setting on the show room floor but for the God going before me and making the deal and best of all below my budget that allowed me to drive off with my Nissan Marrone with all the bells and sonar, whistles and dry sets that with do both heat or cool my hinny 🤗
No fear, it has a safety feature that scared me when I first experienced that if you are coming into a school zone the car automatically takes you to the correct speed. Someone pulled out a little to late my car auto showed in a gentle way, not slamming me at all, just let me know this is so safe. Thank you for asking i pray God adds one like mine to your home.

It certainly has exclusivity; I can't remember seeing any of these on the road. Possibly because of its anonymous exterior design. As you say, it's a LOT of car for the money. Thanks for the reminder.... you're spot on about road tax, and indeed, a lot of other routine costs. These are liable to change anyway, depending on what mood the Government of the day are in.
My 2006 (US) Murano is a powerful, solid, very roadworthy, very roomy car, but not great on gas!
Rogue is a newer and smaller car model in the US.
I see the fuel economy rating is 18 city MPG, 23 highway. That's decent for a crossover with AWD that weighs 4k+ pounds and is a behemoth. Rides nice, handles like a car, not a crossover. It's unique. Reliability is questionable.
Even better value for money today 2023. As you said you get a lot of car for the money even here in Finland.
Just to clarify the Rogue is the baby brother of the Murano same speck smaller engine Rogue only comes in a 2.5l engine....

Aaron Dsouza Have you driven a CVT attached to a torquey 3.5L V6? It’s a different experience to a CVT on a gutless n/a 1.8L Corolla or 2.5L X-Trail. Super smooth, rapid acceleration without the common CVT drone.

@Junior. Very unlikely. You would have to find an auto transmission that would fit and could be connected to the Rogue’s engine. It would cost a lot of money to swap over and would devalue the car / void parts of the warranty. Much easier just to buy a Mazda CX-30 or CX-5 which are much better cars than the Rogue. Much better engines, smart 6 speed autos and a much better driving experience. Same for the CX-9 over the Murano.
We considered this vehicle when dipping our toe into the 4x4 market back in 07. Either the Nissan or an 07 Hyundi Sante Fe. We chose the diesel Sante Fe. They were selling the last of the pre face-lift Murano models of at £17k brand new! Still didn't change our minds though, running costs wise.
@Jim Barrows I can only speak for the Hyundi, but yes you're correct only a soft version, you could lock the rear diff with the press of a button. The Santa Fe was in 4 wheel drive all of the time. It did a great job but nothing like my next car which is a Discovery 4.

Ive recently purchased a 2005 silver murano with only 91,500 miles and it has been a pain. First, the car always needed jumpstarting since the battery was toast so we needed another one and the engine cover badge has dropped deep in the engine and is making an alarming knocking noise whilst driving and the satnav is useless. But the detuned 350z engine is amazing and the standard equipment is great. Nice use of £2000
I’ve just sold my Murano for spares A, 2005 model with 180k on the clock bought for £2000 as a ‘get me by’ car that I was going to keep for 6 months, that was 4 years ago! Finally let it go with 230000 miles on the clock as the newness was wearing off. Regard the road tax if you can get an older one (pre March 2005) it’s ONLY (HA!) £330 a year which is cheaper than my 2003 Mini Cooper S

I remember an old joke about Lucas Electronics being the inventor of darkness due to their unreliability. Today, Jatco is the inventor of failing Nissans. Their CVTs are notorious for breaking down way too soon.

they do but of the time, BMW put a vulnerable GM box in their X5 and inflicted the same on the Range Rover of that era and they all fail at 140k miles. Cayennes and XC60's also had automatic transmissions that were designed to fail.
Intravenusdimilo Volvo also put a GM transmission in the S80 and XC90.

I went to Boston in 2006 to visit a friend I didn’t see in years and his sister picked me up in the airport in a brand new Nissan Murano she took possession of the previous week and I must say I loved it, couldn’t believe they came on the Irish market the same year but they never took off over here because of the road tax was €900 plus a year and also you either liked them or hated them? Hated would of been the latter over here. Great review as always.. Volvo XC 90 new model review would be greatly appreciated if one comes into stock.
We just bought a 2006 model- with only 52,000 miles... It's just like new! Looks- never sat in, and comes so loaded with options, it's so comfy, feels luxurious- and we paid$6500.00...!

While far from sporty, for people for which a car is an appliance the CVT is quite great. As long as you don’t put your foot down too much it can keep the engine pinned at ~1100 rpm while slowly picking up pace, making it feel almost like an electric car. It’s beyond me why not more carmakers include one for the low powered models to maximise comfort - keep the 7 speed for the big sporty engines and give me the smooth as butter cvt for hauling kids to school
In the USA, this car was just as it is here, a Nissan Murano. First introduced in 2002, this model(the one shown in this video) went for a model year of 2002-2007. This vehicle actually has no similarities to the Infiniti FX. The FX SUV is actually built on the same platform as the Nissan Z, just stretched a bit. This is what gave the FX a desirable sport characteristic for the time. The Murano shares a platform with the Nissan Altima/Maxima

Interesting, I'm looking for something roomy for road trips that can also do some light off road with some all terrain tyres fitted. I've been eyeing up V8 X5s and MLs and also V6 Porsche and VW. I used to have a first gen Outlander and it reminds me a lot of that. The tax is just one of those things, although sometimes you an go a year or 2 older and pay less as these where introduced 2005 not an option on the Murano.
