I am so grateful for you!! We have been trying for weeks to get this to work. We had 2 routers which were conflicting with each other and the minute I disabled the one and plugged in the other it worked! Thanks again so much.
Good video. I didn’t know this was available. The WiFi stopped working well on my Nighthawk CAX80 so I will test external WiFi routers. However I would try an Ethernet cable to connect to disable / enable router function. No need to hard reset to factory to revive.
But is there a way to do "router ONLY mode" ?? I have fiber internet now, but I still want to use this as my router.. So I want to disable the modem side of this netgear and only use the router portion as a swtich/ router/ wifi, etc... But I noticed that none of the ports say "WAN".. They all say LAN, so I'm not sure if it would even work?? it doesn't look like they designed it to work as a router only
this is late but you need to talk to the isp for that one and they will recomend a working modem with your isp. Then take off the isp modem and use the bought one
Are you familiar with Orbi Mesh Systems? I am thinking of getting a Orbi set up. I currently am using a router/modem Nighthawk C7800. I think I will have to disable the router on the Nighthawk C7800 to allow the Orbi Mesh System to work properly... Can you confirm this?
I did this with my combo and nighthawk router,my desktop is still connected to it via LAN and still not accessible,is that normal? I also disabled the firewall as the new router has its own and DHCP as well but I'm not sure if it have to disable DHCP on the WAN of the modem? My speed is good and everything works but I'm still getting a fairly high ping, thanks in advance if you have any input on this, good vid as well 👍
I need help, a netgear guy asked me to switch modes, and now I cannot get it back to the way it was…😑, I did press the reset in back of device, still not working
quick question, i need to do this since i am adding the nest router mesh system. if i have an issue with that, and need to revert how does one do that? reset in the back or need to plug in to computer via LAN and then enable it again?
@jgarcia1925 how did you end up getting it to work? I tried last night and it did not work. I have a nighthawk mesh system(3 pack mesh). I turned router mode off on combo, plugged one satellite into port one via ethernet and no internet coming through.
so, if i were to disable too router side to it, i can’t plug in more than 1 ethernet cord to it? i was thinking about getting a cm7000 and disabling the router setting and plugging in 4 ethernet ports into it, 1 going from the modem to the router and the other 3 going to gaming consoles. Will that not work?
@@fightnight14 i ended up getting a CM1000 modem i believe and just got a nighthawk router and got ethernet cables going from the router to the gaming consoles
I think you confuse the two. If it says cable modem and has only one port it means you have a modem only. If it says cambo it means you have more than one port.
the idea, is you are putting it in Bridge mode. so you can put a more powerful router in your network, like pfSence or something that has a lot more capability .
my.eastlink.ca/customer-support/internet/wifi/configure-my-modem-for-bridged-mode-arris-dg-1670a Here is one way to do it. I'll have to invest in an Arris combo to play with it myself. If that doesn't work, search for your model number and "bridge mode". The technical term for doing this is called bridge mode.
The very easiest way would be to reset the router to factory default settings. there should be a little pin hole on the back that says reset and you just use a safety pin or something to hold that in for about 15 seconds.
@lander pander No. What will happen is that you won't be able to access through the IP address on the search bar or using the website. I haven't tried this, but you might have to physically connect your computer/laptop with a ethernet cable to the Netgear router to access UI.
You don't need to do this step. There is a WiFi button in the front. Just hold for 3 second. The wifi will turn off. And you don't need to reset to the factory settings
@@isaacmerino312 Ok..so I did this last night and it worked. I purchased a NightHawk 6 Mesh and turned off the WIFI on my C7000 NetGear Modem/Router Combo and the Night Hawk 6 MESH worked fine. So no need to do the BRIDGE thing and screw up your settings in your existing Router/Modem.
I am so grateful for you!! We have been trying for weeks to get this to work. We had 2 routers which were conflicting with each other and the minute I disabled the one and plugged in the other it worked! Thanks again so much.
Bro you saved my pockets . i always wondered if this could be done and i thank you again for that tutorial
Just what I was looking for thanks. I got another (faster) router and wanted to just use the Nighthawk as the modem.

How do I turn off the cable modem portion and use only wifi? C7000v2 netgear

so i am guessing the reason for doing this, is so you can add a better router instead of using the one included with the modem
That's definitely one good reason!
@@HomeNetworkCentral I have a horrible Arris modem router. Would I disable this so I can connect the Amazon Eero Mesh router to use as WIFI instead?

Can I disable the Modem part, attach a DOCSIS 3.1 modem and just use the Router of the C7000?? How would I connect the new modem to C7000 router?
Did you find an answer for this?? I want to use mine as a router only also..

Good information, because I woud like to use the Netgear RAX 40 instead, Eric how do I connect the RAX 40 to the C7000
Is this how you would use your RAX 40 instead? This is exactly what I want to do. I have a different modem-router combo though.

Has anyone had luck with connecting a mesh system to the cable modem/router using this method.
does anyone know how to turn this back on once you turn it off?
Can't you just turn it back on using ethernet cable?
But if i connect another router to that modem/router, will im have wifi on my router?
