If you're looking for some non-run video ideas, here are two I'd like to see: * A Top 10 list of the solo runs you think you can do better and/or more quickly. * A video explaining your routing, what is optimal and why, and when you would deviate from the optimal routing and why (like why you skipped Surge in your Charmander run.)
Hi josh. Keep making videos brother. From your neighbor in MI. I have a wife and 4 kids with 1 more on way. And there’s nothing like ending my night by walking my dog, Getting away from the chaos, And listening to some of your videos bringing me joy and nostalgia. I loved Pokémon red/blue and play through sometimes via emulator on high speeds. Keep it going please sir. Love your stuff. Know there are others out there that highly enjoy the vids. Ttys-redspyder
only in gen 1 would you use the move that lowers your crit rate (that's supposed to raise it) because getting a crit would deal less damage if you raise your attack
@@Igorcastrochucre I haven't gotten far in the video, but the crit rate in gen 1 is relatively high, so over the course of a battle with several turns, you're pretty likely to get a crit or two. I'd say it's actually a good idea to spend a turn reducing your crit rate against a non-threatening pokemon.
@@fahkyew7776 It is high for most Pokemon because in gen 1 the critical hit rate was actually based off of the pokemon's base speed (BaseSpeed/512 for those wondering, 8x as likely if it's a high-crit move) so for example Hitmonlee's crit rate would be 87/512 or about 17%, for comparison the base crit rate in gen 2-6 is 6.25% and 4.167% from gen 7 onward. Also, notably if the pokemon has a base speed stat of at least 64, then if it uses a high-crit move (like Razor Leaf or Slash) it would almost (1/256 glitch strikes again) always be a critical hit...unless you used Focus Energy or a Dire Hit.
Jrose, you probably won't see this, but your videos were and still continue to be very comforting to me during difficult times. Thank you for doing what you do and how you do it.
Man. I haven't watched the video yet, but I need to tell you this: I opened youtube and I saw you uploaded new content and I viscerally screamed YEEEESSSS. I'm passing through dark moments in my life and your videos really cheer me up and make me happy for at least some minutes. I hope you're doing great, though. Thanks! And be cool, your own schedule regarding your mental health and balance is the most important thing.
I literally looked at your page 5 minutes before you uploaded, wondering when we were going to hear from you again. Thank you, I needed some of your content tonight.
My man Giovanni is having one hell of a déjà-vu... Also may I just say that I absolutely love how the series evolved from a more serious "I'm showing you the best way to do this run" to a casual "oh yeah there would have been a better way to do it, eh". It makes the videos more engaging (not to mention funny), and it gives me the feeling you are doing what you feel fits best at any given moment. Love the videos, keep them coming (at your own pace). :)
Funny enough, that comes from Magic the Gathering. Specifically, it’s the lesson players learned from the card Necropotence, which allows you to pay life to draw cards next turn.
You know it's Jrose video when he uploads in Halloween! This was a real wonderful treat! ;) Thank you! Also it's a Jrose video when at 19 minutes in, he's already made it in the Elite Four. That's never a good sign. Elite Four are no pushovers.
YOU’RE BACK!!!! Before even watching I added this to my “sleep” playlist, which (despite the name) is a high compliment for fun, interesting videos, because I trust you that much. ;)
14:43 After like 20 years, I finally notice that those are Blaine's EARS. I always thought they were part of his eyes and he just had like massive alien eyes for some reason...don't ask why I thought that. And it's always a pleasure watching these. I hope you keep them coming. :)
Whether it's three weeks or three months, a new JRose video is always worth the wait. Thank you for doing all that you do and take all the time you need. We're here for ya and rooting for ya.
Both of them are probably gonna be horrendous. Scyther only learns Normal moves which means he‘ll have to use Bide in Lavender Tower and Pinsir levels up slowly and has worse speed.
Have you ever considered using one rare candy before each elite four member? That way you dont level up in the middle of a battle, and lose your badge boost glitch/feature. Also, your videos are very entertaining. And you are a great commentator.
Great video, Jrose! Thanks. I was waiting a long time for this video, because I love Hitmonlee! It's my favorite fighting-type pokémon of the first generation. This pokémon is so nice that Game Freak has given it a good number of signature moves: "Rolling Kick", "Jump Kick" and "Hi Jump Kick". As far as I can recall, Hitmonlee is the pokémon with most signature moves, in the first generation. Since I'm a fan of signature moves, it's really hard for me to make him forget any of those three moves (even though "Hi Jump Kick" could be considered a more powerful "Jump Kick", I could never make him forget "Jump Kick"). Taking advantage of the "Seismic Toss" glitch for being able to hit ghost-type pokémon in the first generation games, my Hitmonlee's movepool would be his three signature moves mentioned + "Seismic Toss". Then, it would be able to hit any pokémon.
Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the good old times when there were like 2 uploads a week on this channel. But I also love this, where it's an unexpected treat that just pops up seemingly at random every now and again. And you seem to be enjoying yourself a lot as well! So I'm looking forward to the next one, whether it's next week, next month or some time next year :)
Omg my favorite channel is back!! Haven’t clicked on a upload so fast in my life lol. Hope to see more jrose! Maybe even some of the Mario stream highlights? 👀
Well after watching many of your videos. I finally completed my first solo run. It was with a Blastoise not the most difficult of challenges but I felt accomplished. Keep up the great work!
Happy to see an upload Jrose! It's a massive undertaking you started and i get the burnout but im always excited for a video when I see one from you. Im definitely not the only one.
Great to see you again, as always. I think Bellsprout will make an interesting run. On the one hand, it gets a lot of fun tools like Growth, Razor Leaf, and Sleep Powder, and it gets them quite early. (In fact, it _starts_ with Growth). On the other hand, its offensive movepool is... bad. It doesn't even get Body Slam.
A combination of Sleep Powder + Growth + Mega Drain (because you don't want critical hits, so no Razor Leaf) is what gave Bulbasaur the advantage in the starters run. Fourth move would be either Double-Edge, Acid or Mimic. Only problem is: because it only has Vine Whip at the start, it's gonna need to set up Growth for anything that resists it like Pidgeotto or Bug-types, and its other attack, Wrap takes a while. The beginning is gonna be really slow.
Agatha Lottery will be absolutely brutal for Bellsprout, since its damage pool is only Grass, Poison and Normal. Rival fights will probably be difficult once he has Charizard since Bellsprout is so slow and Pidgeot will make setting up rough. Will be fun for us to watch, but poor Jrose.
I've done Bellsprout minimum battles myself, l the way up to the elite four. It's definitely possible, I'm not nearly as skilled as JRose though and I ended up giving up. I dont know where all the rare candies and ethers and stuff are. Agatha isn't as bad as you'd think. Bellsprout gets sleep powder, which is a necessity for the run. This means you can use sleep powder and mimic dream eater to basically two-shot the entire team. She can't do enough damage to win right away. The biggest problems were Lance and Lorelei. Lorelei doesn't one-shot with anything, so she's mostly safe. The problem is, she has a chance to freeze. And I kept. Getting. Frozen. With Lance, the problem is Gyrados. You can set up and sweep on the dragonair, as the poison typing messes with his AI. But you have to deal with Gyrados first. As long as he doesn't use hyperbeam, taking him down is as simple as putting him asleep. But he kept. Using. Hyperbeam. The early game has a few rough battles. The first bug catcher, for example, is the worst fight in the game and took me ~10 attempts. It's completely RNG. But, it is most certainly possible. The run gets easy after Mt. Moon, for the most part. As long as you have sleep powder that is. It's a bit of a luck based pokemon, but is also pretty strong ngl.
Jrose I just want to say thanks for always explaining why certain things work the way they do. You being welcoming to new people coming to the channel or people who might have forgotten is really nice. As a new viewer I instantly appreciated and felt able to follow along from video one! It makes the videos so much better❤️
All the awesome of psychics in solo challenges combined with all the awesome of water types in solo challenges. Free pass on Brock Easy badge boost High speed and special(high crit Tate might be a liability) Massive coverage Yeah this is a good Mon.
Looked at this video, thought of your intro music, pictured Scott from Scott's thought talking, and remembered Mah dry Bread mentioning a run with hitmonlee as one of his upcoming runs to do as well... the mental three way death match currently going on in my mind. 🙃
Been a rough rough week and I just wanted to say I saw ur new up last night an tbh im very thankful 🙏 for the however minutes of peace i found in this vid. Tbh i fell asleep and trust me thats great. Now i get to watch it twice and im thankful for that too. I appreciate you Jrose. Thanks.
I'd love to see a gen 2 bug version of this challenge. You don't get to see the use of bugs like shuckle or yanma. Ledian is a special wall, forretress is a ohysical wall, shuckle is roll out Jesus, and heracross gets the best bug move in the game. I think it might be closer than one might think.
Hey! Super happy to see you in my sub box again! But that said, I hope you’ll always just do what makes you happy. :) your old videos are great to re watch, and aren’t going anywhere. Wishing you the best for whatever you do next!
I’m really glad you uploaded. I don’t want you to feel pressured, if things are too hard, to force yourself. But your videos do mean a lot to a lot of people, so just remember that we’ll be here waiting no matter what.
Bro you have no idea how happy I get when I see that you uploaded a new video. I have very bad anxiety and it keep me up at night to the point where I legit have cried. I used to love Pokémon (still do) so much as a kid so you’re videos have helped me so much. So thank you, and never stop doing these type of videos!
Hands down this guy is the best at timing the narration of battles to what is going on on screen, others always spoil what is going on by speaking before the action takes place or are too late with what they want to say. Jrose always nails it
Glad to see you're back Jrose! I have a hard time sleeping, but with your videos I can just let them play in the background. my mind needs something to focus on a bit, so my anxiety doesn't keep me awake. These videos help fill that by being something so familiar (pokemon) my mind can go on auto pilot and settle down. Thank you so much for sticking with these videos! I can't wait for the next one!
Literally just started re-watching episodes, because I needed some Jrose in my life, and then the return out of nowhere. Welcome back! Hope you're doing well
I remember as a kid getting hitmonlee as my main and using action replay codes to be able to teach moves to any pokémon and making his story that he was the only hitmonlee that can use thunderbolt lol
So happy you're still chugging along. Always so excited whenever the notification pops up for your channel. Can't wait to see more, whatever form it takes
I have been periodically checking your channel for uploads for MONTHS. I'm so excited to see a new video in the gen 1 solo series! Keep up the good work and I hope to see more uploads soon!
Absolute highlight of my night. Feels like old times after a really, really rough month. Hitmonlee with all the Fighting moves did well but seems to have fallen about where you would expect it. All that's left is Poliwrath and the Machop line for Fighting if I recall? It's always a pleasure to see you streaming Mario and YouTubing Pokemon. Hope you are well :3
Thank you for this Jrose11. Please don't feel pressured to put out videos. Enjoy your breaks and make videos when you want. We'll all still be around. Take care.
While for several Pokemon like: Tauros, Jolteon, Alakazam, Gengar, Mewtwo & Hitmonlee speed and critical hit rates having been tied together was great but it also sucked that getting a crit negated the attacker's stat boost was a potential issue. Never realized that Hitmonlee had very close to the same base stat average as base form starters
Yeah, the hitmons, for being prized pokémon you get from a "gym" and whatnot, have super low base stats. In general, the first few gens were terrible about rare pokémon actually being worth getting.
Remember in Silph Co., "The bed at the bottom-left corner of the ninth floor can be used to heal the Trainer's Pokémon without having to leave the building."
I usually put the Kanto Solo run playlist on in the background when i go to bed.. I was just wondering the other day when a new run was coming out and this morning was only half awake and heard you talking about Hitmonlee, I jumped out of bed and started it from the beginning. Glad to see you uploading again, I'm really excited for the Ditto run, I personally think it's going to be the most challenging.
I just had an aweful week- my brand new pc already has an issue that I have to fix, our microwave broke down, been plagued by nightmares again. These videos help me out so much being able to sleep. Im sooo happy to see a new one, thank you!!
And When the world Needed him The Prodigal Son Returned!!! Either in a community post or in a pass video you said this year has been hard on you, so I hope things have been getting better and it's good to have you back my friend!
It’s too bad Tauros only knows tackle until level 21, cuz he coulda been a contender for the greatest otherwise… I think Mewtwo is untouchable at this point. The only mon that could even hope to get closer than Alakazam is Starmie due to its fantastic movepool and stats. Maybe Jynx as well because ice psychic with lovely kiss is a gen 1 winning combo. Can’t wait to see those runs!!!
This was a hell of a run. My favorite little kickin' McNugget dude did great. You cleared the Elite Four at a surprisingly low level despite the largely bland movepool. A few more levels and some RNG would be avoided on Agatha as well (you looked close to a 2HKO on Haunter, for instance), which is interesting.
@@Hadaron I'm guessing the reason he didn't was because if he hit level 53 before Agatha he wouldn't have a strong Normal move for the Lance and Champion battles since he needed the Mimic strat
All other gen1 fighting types: “ Please sir can I get a single fighting move??”
Hitmonlee: “no, they are all mine”
Machamp has Low Kick and Submission, so it has *some* fighting moves. Granted, Submission has a 20% chance to whiff, and it does recoil.
@@GaIeforce wait you can get a machamp?

Welcome back! Hope you’ve been doing well. Very excited about being able to listen to the challenges again
Welcome back Jrose! I hope you’re planning a Starmie run soon! I can’t wait to see it give Mewtwo a run for its money
All the awesome of psychics in solo challenges combined with all the awesome of water types in solo challenges.
Free pass on Brock
Easy badge boost
High speed and special(high crit Tate might be a liability)
Massive coverage
Yeah this is a good Mon.
Stayed up after stream for this!! Super excited~ Thanks for another great video, JRose!
Looked at this video, thought of your intro music, pictured Scott from Scott's thought talking, and remembered Mah dry Bread mentioning a run with hitmonlee as one of his upcoming runs to do as well... the mental three way death match currently going on in my mind. 🙃
I'm totally taking this as an early birthday gift, I've been wanting this for months it feels like! so happy!
Thanks.
We’ve been blessed with a jrose11 video, it’s bound to be a good week
Nothing like seeing a new Jrose video, clicking, and hearing that intro to get me pumped up! Welcome back!
Been binging this channel recently and now we have a new upload!
Let’s goooo!!
Hands down this guy is the best at timing the narration of battles to what is going on on screen, others always spoil what is going on by speaking before the action takes place or are too late with what they want to say. Jrose always nails it
Wooooooo welcome back. This video is just the kick i need to start the week
Glad you’re back dude. I’ve been enjoying your SM64 stuff too.
Good to see you back!! I wasn’t expecting to see this upload but it was certainly a pleasant surprise!
Dude, so glad to see another video from you, absolute smasher. Hope you're doing well and can keep them coming
Man I was really missing these. Nice to have you back!
My weekend sucked, but seeing you upload another video me smile and made the start of the week better.
Happy to see you on TH-cam JRose, hope everything is going okay with you bud. Im excited to see what Hitmonlee has in store for this challenge.
Just found your stuff a few weeks ago. Now one of my favorite things on TH-cam. Thanks for doing these fren, they're awesome!
I have been periodically checking your channel for uploads for MONTHS. I'm so excited to see a new video in the gen 1 solo series! Keep up the good work and I hope to see more uploads soon!
I can not even begin to express how much I missed these videos, welcome back :D
Finally the Finally part two of my two favorite fighting pokemon solo challenges
When we needed him the most, he returned, even better than before...
Welcome back my favourite youtuber.
Remember in Silph Co., "The bed at the bottom-left corner of the ninth floor can be used to heal the Trainer's Pokémon without having to leave the building."
Yup the two floors I always remember are 5 for the card key and 9 for the bed
YAAAAY.
Always realize how much i miss these whenever a new one pops up. Hope all is well in the JRose world.
😄👍
Incredibly glad you're back, my guy. Hope you're doing okay. Thank you for your videos, you've been more helpful to me than you can know.
Jrose is the best rose!! I hope you’ve been having a lot of fun on twitch, it’s been awesome to see you climb those sm64 randomizer leaderboards
I've watched quite a few of these now and it is just hitting me. Does Agatha's final Gengar know Dream Eater and NOT Hypnosis???
Literal "Return of the King" moment. Jrose hype is back!
Your vids are such a welcome relief in the pandemic. Thank you for a triumphant return
Ah, yes. The good ol JRose tradition of "look, we're at the champion fight!" with a bunch of video left.
I've said this before, but I can't wait to see if Poliwrath's fighting type and lower speed would make it worse than Poliwhirl.
poliwhirl destroys but poliwrath didnt do too bad i think they both ended up in the same tier
whoops he hasnt done poliwrath yet apparently he iust said he thinks poliwhirl will dominate
I just had an aweful week- my brand new pc already has an issue that I have to fix, our microwave broke down, been plagued by nightmares again. These videos help me out so much being able to sleep. Im sooo happy to see a new one, thank you!!
Can't begin to describe the excitement of seeing a Jrose video appear in my feed again
God I'm glad to see you're back man, always great content!
He's using Seismic Toss to attack the ghost Pokémon which deals damage equal to your level so there's no RNG involved in this instance.
@@TomOakleyUK
Hence the words “a few more levels”. The RNG is for moves hitting in return, like fewer hypnosis / confuse ray hits.
@@Hadaron I'm guessing the reason he didn't was because if he hit level 53 before Agatha he wouldn't have a strong Normal move for the Lance and Champion battles since he needed the Mimic strat
Glad ur back bro. I've been watching reruns for a while now. Love you commentary and content
When the world needed him most, he returned... great to see you're back, Jrose!
Glad to see you back. Been waiting all day at work to sit down and watch this.
I wanna see the middle form starters next. Wartortle, Charmeleon and Ivysaur.
Help this man to go onto the top of the Comment Section!
I wanna think those are going to be the very last ones, so:
51: Charmeleon.
52: Wartortle.
53: Ivysaur.
