    Yes Sir my man. The 700e platforms AKA The 773 you were mentioning is much larger in hight and length and weighs about 7-7.5lbs without the metal tenders. Over-all these weigh about 10+lbs. And really require a minimal track diameter of 042" for safe operation, 031 or 027 definitely not gonna work out too well with one of these big boys.

      Ha just found this message cleaning out my folder and thanks for watching. I picked up a Lionel 746 steamer after someone commented on how I didn't have one and what a big machine that one is. You are reminding me that the 773 needs to arrive at some point and what do you think of the motors, are some different or slow, is the Gold Stack motor required?

    I always loved the 746 as well. Longer than the Berkshire and a 4-8-4 wheel arrangement.

      Oh yes indeed and I would love to come across a 746 locally for sale however I haven't yet seen one come up. I may have to pay big $$ on ebay to get one.

    I can't believe you have all that weight sitting on glass! Nice collection! The 2037 was my first back in 1959 when my Father bought the set for me. I still have it and it runs like new.

    • @trainzone1073
      @trainzone1073  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the steamers display so well on glass with the mirrored effect and I'm happy you enjoyed the variety.

    • @butchadriatic1504
      @butchadriatic1504 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's all about the glass. The right (ridged) wood showcase & tempered saftey glass and you (?) can stand and step on them (buisness remodeling), 99% of folk still stuck to the frames, me too lol). The wheels might scuff it some, but shock really isn't a huge issue either with the right showcase glass. Ive seen about 200lbs of foot on ours (? 2'×4'avrg.?). (don't try this at home ;-) )

    Magna-Traction is best because there are no stupid traction tires to replace!

    My grandfather had a 736 on the fireplace mantle. After he passed in 95, stuff got lost. I was cleaning up the garage this weekend and found the tender, but no engine

    The 736 that you have has a different boiler front because it was issued in the late fourties or fifties. From the style of the trailing truck my guess would be 1951 it also has Magna traction which was introduced in 1950.Later runs of the 736 have the same boiler front and trailing truck as the 2046.

    Nice line-up. I have my fathers set box (1515ws) with the 2065 steamer included. Its still runs strong and I set it up every year at Xmas just like my dad did when I was a kid. I've pulled as many as 25 postwar cars that had the older bar end and stapled end trucks with that loco.

    • @trainzone1073
      @trainzone1073  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's fantastic and those old postwar Hudsons sure are neat especially it was your father's in the original set box.

      Thanks for watching and I remember my first postwar steam engine a 2037. I had no way of knowing what I was buying next to get bigger and better magnetraction steam, so I hope this helps out anyone else wondering the same thing.

      The 2037 was my first Lionel magnetraction steamer which I fell in love with since its performance was so much better than my 2018 without magnetraction. Then of course I had to get more bigger and better and the results of their performance led to the video. Thanks for watching and Happy Magnetractioning!

    Hey since you mentioned magnetraction could I remagnitize my wheels on my 736 I also have a sante fe diesel Aa loco that as soon as it gets close to the track gets attracted and clings to it. My 736 doesn't though is this normal if not could I? I know these units are around 60 years old and magnets do get weaker over time thanks.

    • @trainzone1073
      @trainzone1073  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know that Lionel had some with magnets in the chassis above the axles and some designs had magnetic axles or wheels. Just looked under my 736 and it has a strong magnet up in the metal chassis between the drivers. Hopefully no one had installed a 726 motor in your 736 shell. I'm not familiar with techniques to remagnetize the wheels and on some engines I've noticed not all wheels are magnetic, just some of them.
