I received my first Lionel train, a Berkshire on Christmas, 1952. I still have it. It has required some maintenance, but runs fine.

What a classic #736 steam locomotive. You did a beautiful job on restoring that locomotive. Runs like factory new again! Frank

Those tracks on the upper loop @7:18 look like they're about to separate!! Love the 736. Pretty sure my grandpa had this one. He passed this one down to my uncle, along with the 2343 Santa Fe A-A passenger set, a Rock Island A-A Alco, the Pennsy Turbine, and a pair of early 2000s TMCC engines, while I was given the 2056 and 2025 steamers, which I love.

The 726/736 was catalog longer than the Santa Fe F3 And depending on condition you really can’t go wrong with any year it was available

I also have a postwar Santa Fe A-B-A set. Unfortunately I don’t have the matching stainless cars but the MTH cars go pretty well with it

Thank you for the video, I just received a 736 Berkshire/Tender as a birthday present. Today February, 4th is my 70th birthday. A gentleman I've known briefly gave me the 736 I was SHOCKED! to say the least. Yes I'm into the O Gauge newer stuff, but this 736 Berkshire from 1950 really got my attention. Back in the day it was the locomotive to have from Lionel. Today I'm going to a train show in Hampton, VA hoping to find 2671W, or a 2671WX 6 wheel truck Tender. I absolutely love the appearance of the 6 wheel trucks, in my personal opinion the 2671 Tender fits the 736 Berkshire perfectly. The tender I received with the 736 is not in the best condition, the whistle works beautifully, but the frame and shell are not in the best of shape. Once again, Thank you for the video

Great video on the 736 man! As you can tell from my username the 736 is my absolute favorite locomotive that Lionel made. I have the 1950 736 with the 2671W, a 1947 726 with the early pilot and 2426W and a 1993 Pere Marquette Berk with the first generation railsounds.

I have a Polar Express set. Not accurate at all to the actual locomotive, it’s wheel configuration is 2-8-2.

i really do love your layout and think it's a pretty unique looking one. i hope someday i'll have a room i can just flat-out dedicate to my own trains (or a house for that matter. market feels pretty brutal to try to get in on)

$175 is pretty good for any decent shape clean Berkshire. There’s a lot of ones on eBay that are listed in the 300 range, but anything over 300 w no boxes at all, paint chips, & no original owners manual is not worth it.
They’re stating to come down a little, I want to get one in the 100-200 range maybe 200-250 w the 12 wheel tender, but anything more than 300 w no boxes, at all unless it’s sealed in the box, original owner or family owned with receipt then maybe in the 400s. 400s is perfect, no scratches at all. Never touched at all by bare hands since the factory. Even then it’s not worth it.
I don’t like collecting boxes, I collect trains to run, take care of, show my train friends I trust to hold it, & yeah.
Edit: I bought a 736 w the 12 wheel tender abt 3 months ago for $230 was rebuilt, & repainted. The engine saw some light heat in the Mail, so I had to replace the E-unit drum after UPS denied my claim!😤
Was an easy fix thankfully, & now she’s running again, & man does that thing use a lot of power.

I like the 726 better than the 736, and with the 2426 tender it's a real beautiful set. My layout is only one level, so Magne traction doesn't buy me anything. Also, it is such a heavy engine it's capable of pulling lots of cars.

I think the non magne traction Berkshires are the best. Better looking, better running, better made. My favorite is the Turbine. Basically the same engine. I find that the 46-49 models are better performing.

It was on the 736, but I ended up taking the trouble wheels off and oiled them and fitted them back on. That seemed to have did the trick, some how they were on too tightly perhaps. Either way it seems to be running well now. Thank you for replying back
