Honestly? Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event. There's TONS of Deftones songs I could pick.....basically do anything on Deftones and I'm here for it. But I figured I'd throw out an unlikely pick. I _adore_ that song. So deeply emotionally dreamy and liminal. It feels like it comes from the realm of the subconscious.
If you’re not already familiar, Champaign IL band Hum are similar in that they are a hybrid of hard alternative music and more ethereal elements like Shoegaze and Space Rock. Hum are an acknowledged influence on Deftones. The LA band Failure also exist in this heavy - ethereal - space.
I love that album so much, I would love for them to match that with Eros but I don't know if it might. I think about, "what does it take for that to be the result?" White Pony was my favourite for a time, I played that enough that Saturday Night Wrist was perfect for me at the time, the balance, then Diamond Eyes played the balance so well I didn't expect anything as good as Koi No Yokan, when it came
@@jak3w thats fair I guess it just annoys me enough when its framed like this because it implies they did something bad or that just having infulences is 'stealing' stealing would be if they reuploaded MBVs loveless then slapped 'deftones' on the cover

Their approach to this song reminds me of The Cure, especially in their goth era, where they focus on open guitar chords for space, a multitude of synth/effects, and groove/rhythm in the bass. A Forest is a perfect example. It also makes sense considering that The Cure was another major influence on their music and sound.
Shoegaze really seems to be blowing up right now I’ve been a fan of shoegaze for about 3-4 years now And for awhile I couldn’t find a single person who listened to and or knew what it was
my favorite band of all time (2. TOOL, 3. Nirvana, 4. System of A Down, 5. A Perfect Circle) and one of my favorite albums from their catalog. 1. Around The Fur 2. White Pony 3. Saturday Night Wrist 4. Koi No Yokan 5. Deftones (Self Titled Album). the fusion of Nu Metal, Shoegaze, and Pop Melodies distinguishes them from all the other bands. i'm tryna replicate their sound and aesthetic on my upcoming project(s). a fan from South Africa.
Koi perfected their “new” sound imo. Such a beautiful album front to back. I know people say Diamond Eyes does what Koi does but I disagree, there’s a vibe to Koi that DE doesn’t have. It’s celestial.
@@Agostoic DE is great individually but as an album, I don’t think it’s cohesive or flows well. Sounds a bit dry in production as well compared to Koi. Not terrible production by any means, just not as “spacey” as Koi.
Could you maybe make a video discussing why fans don’t like Gore? I think it is a fantastic album and a lot of the criticisms people have of it, I find are elements on all of their other beloved albums.
Simple answer is it sounds more like demos then actual Deftones studio album songs. It wasn't written by a majority of the band and because of that it sounds like a side project.
Its indeed a good record but the thing is that the production sounds trashy and not deep and shoegazy its like listening to a garage band first album and from my point of view it doesn’t sounds good, but i agree that putting that aside its a great album with a couple of great songs
Could you do Red by King Crimson? You did a Court video a while ago, and while that album is great, it misrepresents what King Crimson is (sort of like Creep) and so many people listen to Court and only Court that some of us in the community call them "courtheads". I think Red is a masterpiece and one of if not the greatest album ever made. Hell, maybe you could do a tour through all the albums to show all the different things they tried, from In the Court of the Crimson King to Larks Tongues In Aspic, to Lizard, Red, Thrak, Discipline, Three of a Perfect Pair, The Power to Believe, all the distinct eras of King Crimson.
I saw MONO live last year. Epic band. They played at a local church. The scenery and their music was perfect together. Mogwai is cool too. I'll see what i can do.
He didn’t say anything was stolen. The whole point of the video was that they were inspired by those styles of music and bands. There’s nothing wrong with that, and he never said there was.
It’s called inspiration and influence from other sources ?but what I don’t understand. Why do you advertise that deftones did something bad as STOLEN instead of like.. “Deep dive into Deftones - Koi No Yokan”
What Deftones song should i talk about next?
Be quiet and drive.
Lotion, please.
Poltergeist
Digital Bath

Cherry Waves is an unbelievable song

Especially on Hum's newer album, Inlet. The riffs are heavier and sorta take from doom metal, while the shoegaze elements are even more present
Knife Prty sounds extremely similar to Little Dipper by Hum. Both are amazing songs!
Oh yeah. Good to bring up
+1 on Failure
Finally someone appreciating rosemary!! It’s one of their best songs imo
I love those dreamy metal songs. That's why my favourite album after KNY is Saturday Night Wrist.
Beware for example.
KNY will always be my personal favourite, From start to finish it flows perfectly
I love that album so much, I would love for them to match that with Eros but I don't know if it might.

White Pony was my favourite for a time, I played that enough that
Saturday Night Wrist was perfect for me at the time, the balance, then
Diamond Eyes played the balance so well I didn't expect anything as good as Koi No Yokan, when it came
That transition from Rosemary to Goon Squad is Godly.
10/10 perfect moment
Over the moon to see my favourite music channel once again covering my favourite band!

Slowdive , my favorite band 😊
Great that you shout out Sergio's contributions. The band sure did him dirty. What a bummer
It's sad actually.
Shoegaze really seems to be blowing up right now I’ve been a fan of shoegaze for about 3-4 years now

Jaguars/Jazzmasters are simply the most best guitars. Aesthetically they are beautifullllll.

Solid
Glad that you made another Deftones video!
It's a very gorgeous and mesmerizing song.
My dude. That intro was a) played by Chino and b) absolutely perfect.

Not to mention nearly the entire album was written by just Chino
May as well just renamed the band to Chino Moreno and the Deftones at that point.
Great video! Though I'd say Chino's Team Sleep project is maybe even more shoegaze-y
i could've sworn this was called "how deftones stole from shoegaze" this morning
It was, but after the backlash in the comments he changed it.
Just a lil click-baity for the curious eye
Understanding Death Grips when?
A Philadelphia band called HUM was really influential. And Failure
Hum are from Illinois
Deftones always threatened to go full shoegaze since their inception. Great album. Great video man, have a sun.
They also took the riff from Little Dipper by HUM for Knife Prty
omergah! You're back! And with Deftones no less....and tying it into shoegaze no less!
Nice.... :D
This town don't feel mine
My favorite deftones album next to around the fur.
Dude where’d you go?
Same question -- just found some cool vids on The Mars Volta and the dude just dissapeared. Hope he's okay though.

Koi No Yokan is their best album
The Gathering is an interesting band. Definetely needs a video.
For me, Rosemary is a post-metal song. Similar with the Chino's side project Palms.

I think Hexagram might be their most shoegaze song however
they dont borrow they lowkey been shoegaze since the very beginning before abe became drummer.
