Man that night was awesome 😎 as soon as I heard him say this is for My Man Cheng 😢!!! Everyone knew this moment was special ❤❤❤ going again this November 4th 🤘🤘🤘 see you Deftones Fam there ❤
Deftones self titled is one of the most underrated albums from them. if you haven't heard it, the song Hexagram is one of the rawest sounding metal songs out there by any band. Rest in Peace Chi Cheng....
yes! i was saying that when it came out, was way heavier than i expected cuz Minerva was more chill, but amazing song, Minerva always hits me in the feels,& girls telephone boys was fuckin insane
The Self Titled album is, far and away, my absolute favorite from them. It's a masterpiece. It baffles me how often it gets forgotten about, or worse yet included as one of their worst by some?! The heavy melancholic drone and noise elements from this album are never again used to this degree in the Deftones discography.
I 100% agree with you. Sadly, that album was when the band was going through some tough shit, which could be why the self titled album was so heavy and depressing. Even their b side single Lovers, which didn't make it to the album is amazing. If you haven't listened to Lovers, DO SO NOW!
@@francesthemute9717 Agreed on all of those, Minerva has good dynamics. Really soft in the beginning and then opens up to huge wall of sound. That music video for Minerva was a tribute to Pink Floyd's Live at Pompeii.
About 4 years I go went to a show in Mesa AZ, I met Stephen after a show one day, I asked him what really happened to Eros. Stephen claims the album is done instrumentally but chino isn’t feeling the album so he refuses to finish it.
I think they should release what they have of the Eros Sessions as an EP. What little we have heard from it (Melanie, Dallas, and Smile), it sounds like it would have been good.
I am actually pretty sure amidst all the events after Chi's accident, Chino explained they were shelving the album because it was an "angry" one (whether that was in concept, the general air during writing/recording, the sound, I am not really sure) and they wanted to keep spirits high and positive while he recovered. I believe it was a Facebook post, possibly an interview though. I had a really vivid memory of him saying that was the main reason it has been shelved and has remained that way.
1. Koi No Yokan 2. Adrenaline 3. White Pony 4. Saturday Night Wrist 5. Deftones 6. Diamond Eyes (Deftones and Diamond Eyes are almost interchangeable for me) 7. Gore (the songs are great, would have liked it more if the production wasn't so shit. At least it sounds better than Baroness' new album though) 8. Around the Fur (don't understand the hype)
Must've been even better to grow up with them. My father introduced me to them when i was younger back in 2009. So you were a good 20 years ahead of me lol.
One of my favorite bands of all time top 3 alongside Korn and nine inch nails. Saw them live in 2012 at a small event called One Night Only in Cape Town it was so amazing. Chino and Sergio had this crazy energy and really made for a awesome show
Honestly I don't want them to ever finish Eros. I WOULD like some kind of rough-release/collection of the material they already had. Put together as a sort of musical collage. But i want to hear it in its pure form. Not "finished" by the present day band.
A few things I wanted to say after watching this; Chi passed away in 2013. I was hoping that information would be in this video. Vesanic is one of the guys that runs the DeftonesLive youtube channel. Definitely check that out. He's pretty much the authority on Deftones. Also, Chino himself uploaded Smile on the one year anniversary of Chi's death. Someone made a lyric video for it. The "leaked" recording isn't actually called "Dallas". That was a working title for another song we haven't heard. That video uploaded by JG Productions was just an extended version of a song snippet we'd heard before in those update videos that we hadn't heard before in full until then along with video we hadn't seen before either.
Justin Y? Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time... Seriously did something happen or did I just go through a 3 month period of magically not noticing your comments anymore?
Kurt Travis of Dance Gavin Dance was also supposed to be a feature on Eros. Chino recently recorded a song with the band titled Caviar. Travis confirmed in an interview that the track with him could possibly exist somewhere.
This is from my favourite era of deftones (WP to SNW) and the songs ive heard sound like a continuation of SNW with a more melancholic feel. I really hope they release what they have one day, i am certain i would have loved this album.
I've been a deftones fan since Adrenaline first came out and they've been my favorite band for over 20 years. Just to throw in my two cents, I don't want them to release Eros. Deftones have always been a very honest band in that whatever music they create and release perfectly speaks to where they are in their lives and their art at that exact moment. Part of the band's magic is that they capture a moment in time and then evolve and move on. To revisit something they started over 10 years ago when they were at a totally different place and especially to do it with a new member would betray who they are as artists. Chi played a huge role in the creation of that music, as he did in all their previous albums, and bringing in a different bass player to try to pick up where he left off would be like one artist beginning a painting, getting a quarter of the way through and then another artist finishing it. The point being the painting may be beautiful in the end but it can never be the original painting because it's not the original artist's fulfilled vision. If deftones tried to finish Eros, it wouldn't be Eros, it would be a brand new album with a few Eros songs attached to it. I miss Chi immensely but I have to move on just as the band does. Eros already exists as it is and that's how it should remain; a snapshot in time like all of deftones' work.
Considering Around the Fur 25th anniversary is coming up in October 2022 this year, that maybe a possible date when Deftones releases the long over speculated and anticipated Eros album.
damn.. that would make for an interesting watch.. especially due to the changes the lineup has gone through and Craig's notoriously unpredictable mental issues.. such an amazingly unique band..
sammo I don’t know, you can find a lot of great stuff in their newer records (Winning Days, Spaceship, All 4 Autumn Shades, Green Utopia, Psychomatic, Killin the Planet, Into The Fire, Willow, Annie Jane. But Highly Evolved certainly is their most solid ALBUM.
When they came back to Bogotá in 2018 for the second time, I was so close to listen to it, just let Abe Cunningham know that I wanted to see it, he has it on his phone, he told me “I got it on my phone 3 phones ago!” Hopefully someday we’ll listen to it! Cool Breeze is such a Gentleman, maybe I could’ve listened to it but didn’t want to bother him, while he signed most of my stuff... He gave an absolute and complete feedback about everything! Hate to say it but the Deftones material improved drastically after their mid-career slump (with the self-titled album, Minerva, Saturday Night Wrist) when Chi died. I think this event (getting a new bassist) completely revitalised them. Diamond Eyes was a pretty heavy & strong album, Kai No Yokan is still one of their absolute best - in terms of production, musicanship, and enthusiasm.
Simon Barr damn man I disagree. I prefer around the fur, white pony, self titled, and Saturday night wrist over the latest albums. Latest albums aren’t bad except for Gore which I think is pretty bad.
