Hey Fernando! Good to see you. I hope you and your family are safe and well. Thanks for another great video. I have been using my M1 iPad Pro 11 as a laptop replacement for my real estate and property management businesses since Nov. 2021, and the experience just keeps getting better and better. For me iPad OS is just a better fit for the kind of work I do. And yes, I also love Stage Manager....especially on an external monitor.
Just got mine in the mail today. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxhcEDB3r-OJ3_X5hQzr7k1ZofTQy1ao_U The corners of the box was a little smashed but I think that’s more of the shipping’s fault. iPad was in perfect condition though. I ordered the yellow one thinking it was going to be a bright vibrant color. Instead I looks like more of a Gold color. I personally prefer the gold look. Definitely not disappointed but just a heads up to the ones expecting a brighter cream of yellow.
The stage manager improvements and third-party camera support (providing all relevant apps can make use of it) are the only things that will help my workflow. I fail to see the benefit of personal voice, as this just feels like more bling to me, like widgets. I would rather Apple add useful functionality to iPad OS, such as VM support / parallels desktop, proper external SSD and memory card support (eject, format, repair), the iOS calculator app, and permit sideloading apps, so you can readily install emulators, even if the Apple App Store doesn't provide them (... you can sideload if you put your iPad Pro into developer mode, but you need a Mac computer plus it's a lot of work). Without this sort of functionality, the iPad Pro will never be a computer, just an oversized smart phone.
I agree. I always found it hilarious how Apple touted the iPad as a laptop replacement. If its supposed to replace my laptop, I'm expecting it does everything my laptop does.
Great video, for me the next improvement is for the files app to work more like the Mac OS finder and being able to drag and drop files from email into files and from files to email would be great. I use outlook for work and the app is not great for productivity on iPad and the web version isn’t as smooth as the desktop app
I use an ipad air 5 as my only computer , work , play etc., on the road sales access to company CRM , spreadsheets ,email filling in forms great machine portability was my main aim ,battery life and phone compatibility. Files app working better with external storage and being able to put files in notes would be good
Agreed. To the smart asses there are plenty of use cases where this would be beneficial. For example, I’m watching TH-cam and I get a motion alert on a camera. The second I open that alert it stops the video. It’s a motion alert. I don’t need to stop the video to see it on the side. Another example, watching a video and open certain articles that have auto playing video players. They automatically stop the video I’m watching even tho I never clicked the video on the article and there’s no sound.
Thanks so much, very thorough and a great video! I was hoping they would include in the Notes updates to allow us to type in the app, and then use the pencil to mark around that text, rather than how it creates like a drawing space and text only spaces. I know there are the text boxes, but it’s not quite ideal. Am I the only one who feels this way?
Thanks for this video! I looking forward to updating to iOS 17 soon. I use my iPad as my primary computer (for now) and love all the productivity solutions you highlighted.
Things I’m still wishing for: 1. External display rotation in settings 2. Touchscreen monitor support for quick portable pdf and note taking 3. Normal curser icon 4. Ability to fix the scroll direction between trackpad and mouse
The iPad has always been my main computer aside from doing cds but that was back than until Apple Music came out than I had gotten an M1 iPad Pro for my birthday last year it’s even more of a computer especially with iPados 17 I’ve noticed
My biggest question apart from Stage Manager which now finally works well, when you connect to an external display, does it still need a bluetooth keyboard and mouse to connect? And does it allow you to use the iPad speakers? Because I had to use other ear buds to finally hear anything when I connect to an external display.
I traded in my 2018 ipad pro and gave my macbook pro to my wife for her job laptop to get myself a refurbished 2021M1ipad pro and it’s the best decision Ever made because it truly is a beast of main daily driver “Computer and especially professionally used as a professional creators laptop with the magic keyboard and especially the more mac like iPados17 and especially now with true professional creative mac software like Final Cut and Logic Pro I don’t feel or hear the usual complaints about great powerful hardware but lacks the power software to take advantage of that power those days are over thankfully!!🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🤩🤩🤩🙏🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽🙏🏽👍🏽
the main problem to use an ipad as a main computer is the keyboard, there is no interaction as the keyboard on a mac or windows, if you just open a excel file or google sheets file for example you'all going to understand.
iPadOS is still missing some important features so that it can’t replay a PC or Mac. Stage Manager is still not good. And, more important no changes were made to the files app. You still can’t format or safely eject an external drive.
thank you and please keep making these videos my ipad Pro is now my main “computer” I’m just praying stage manager keeps developing into a more macos like Ui For individual app we indows please make more videos in how stage manager turns our ipads into computers and how to take full advantage of it’s capabilities and features please?🙏🏽
Apple needs to add a minimize window button at the top of every application running, just like Samsung DeX. Apple doesn't want iPad to be a laptop replacement and why on earth they are putting powerful SoC inside when they are not going to make it usable as a computer.
They have already explained why they put their most powerful chip inside, for future-proofing. Their data suggest iPad users keep for around 6-7 years so Apple wants to give Day 1 users the best they have so in five years time they will still have a great tablet. Why on earth would anyone complain about this and I suspect you are just trolling as if Samsung puts the next-gen ARM desktop chips in their Tab S Ultra you will not complain. Shocking take by you!
@@andyH_England What is the point of putting a powerful chip when you are going to limit it's usability? Mac Mini has M1 in it, can you compare it with iPad pro? Apple is simply afraid that if they make iPadOS more useful, it will affect MacBook sale. iPad has huge potential, but Apple won't let people explore that just by implementing some serious limitations in IPadOS. And if you are talking about future proofing I can assure you that most iPad users can get their job done with iPad 9th gen also, watching youtube, netflix, taking notes, drawing these things can be done with iPad 9th gen, you don't need M1/M2 for that.
@@liveliferock If you ever run a big corporation like Apple then you will realise that unintentional consequences can damage your business. Back in the early days Apple almost went bust due to sharing their OS. They now have data and research that tells them the consequences of changing one variable. I suspect, as it is pretty obvious, that if they allowed macOS on iPads there would be no upside but there would be enormous downsides. What you want and what the shareholders want are two ends of the spectrum. Apple is being sued by shareholders for stuff all the time. If they did what you suggested it is likely heads would roll and lawyers would be suing.
@@andyH_England Maybe there are sufficient reasons behind this decision or maybe Apple is just afraid that making iPad more productive will cannibalise MacBook sale. I am not asking for Mac on iPad, I am just asking a minimise and maximise button and get rid of stage manager. This will make iPad a whole lot convenient as a portable computer. Just let people minimise the app to the dock and reopen.
Too bad I need to upgrade my iPad to get stage manager, and would want a bigger one to get enough screen real estate. Also multiple profiles would be useful on iOS as well. We also need split screen. Not sure if this makes an iPad a computer though the way you see with Windows tablets that can be a laptop and tablet like the surface or some other ones.
Technically speaking the iPad is a computer. In fact the full name of tablets is tablet computer. We them tablet for short leading to all the confusion and Semantics. Apple has severely limited the iPads capabilities intentionally to otherwise encourage people to buy a MacBook instead because of the higher price point. MacBooks bring more revenue for the company. The iPad has the possibility of being the ultimate mobile computer if Apple finally decides to allow it to live up to its true potential.
Thanks! Trying to move completely to IPad. Getting there. Will Notes ever let you clip entire articles like OneNote and Evernote? I’ve been asking Apple for this for several years now.
I quit using my computer probably in 2016 and have been using iPads ever since. Mostly because of my age and eyesight. I could make things big enough to read on the iPad.

I really wish apple silicone iPad can support 120hz refresh rate on external monitor(even the baseline M1 MacBook Air can output 4k 144hz), that would make iPad a complete computer. I can bear with 60hz on external monitor but that's really not ideal
I still haven’t understood what was your workflow? For video editing, sure I guess, u get Final Cut and lumafusion and Resolve, noteteaking defintely. Ben a teacher or maybe a med student or finance student should be fine, but as u said, it’s dependent on the workflow. I work more on the software end, even my studies are on that end, so even a basic iPad 7 that I have works fine for me.
The real updates to iPadOS are the tiny UI refinements that makes the system a lot less modal. New menu UI, new Inspector UI, new pop-up buttons. That's where the real usability lies.
Hello! Just found some of your videos as Im finally back in the iPad world. Picked up the pro 12.9 intending to use it as my main computer. I don’t have any other Mac devices at the moment. Which leads me searching for seamless setup. Im just extending my iPad to a 1080 monitor. I don’t know why but nothing seems to be looking as seamless as what I see in your videos. Do you recommend needing another Mac (related) device to support the extended monitor use model? It sounds redundant considering my intent is to use what I have (for work setup - laptop + 2 extended monitors).
I have been using iPads as my main photo/video/deign toolbox for 2-3 years. I muse when I see articles about making an iPad more like a laptop. The reality is it surpassed a laptop many years ago. Once you understand the device, the interface and the power. Laptops feel very retro and in many ways clumsy! I recall way back when I had my first Mac II using multi finder. And how friends with PCs thought my Mac II was limiting and strange. I see the iPad eventually becoming the future once people realise their Macs are becoming iPads in every update… as for Windows users, its an Android iOS world now, time to move on…
Can you color calibrate your monitor and save color profile into ipad pro? Default color on a external display through usb c port of the ipad pro is awful.
Profiles in safari are…. Ok? What we need is login for different people, exactly like on the Mac; not just safari. It’s an M2! Could handle at least 5 simultaneously working users.
Can't they just create a limited MacOS version for iPad Pro M-chip models🥲 Leave the boring iPadOS to Air and base iPad models. Such a powerful device.

@@Batman19203 I use both Word, Excel, and Outlook on my iPad Pro on a daily basis with no problems.
How does video calls/sharing your screen work?
@@mykhy528 As expected? Zoom and FaceTime are the only two video call apps I use, and I have no problems with either.
@@Batman19203I don’t us Microsoft Windows.
Mind blown by a lot of these features…thank you!
Finally catching up to DEX. Congrats
I intend to purchase an iPad Pro as a laptop replacement (my laptop broke), so this video kind of helped me with finding out if it’s possible
Great video! With stage manager, I use iPad more and more, looking forward to iPad OS 17
What year are you?
You can already drag & drop files from the files app into an email since at least iPad OS15.
@@RumbleRish not from outlook
IPad need to include eject option. My HDD become corrupted because it was still processing behind the scene when I pull the cable.
I know this video is old, but any chance you could share where that gorgeous sunset wallpaper shown at 9:40 is from?
Thanks so much, very thorough and a great video! I was hoping they would include in the Notes updates to allow us to type in the app, and then use the pencil to mark around that text, rather than how it creates like a drawing space and text only spaces. I know there are the text boxes, but it’s not quite ideal. Am I the only one who feels this way?
Thanks for this video! I looking forward to updating to iOS 17 soon. I use my iPad as my primary computer (for now) and love all the productivity solutions you highlighted.
Things I’m still wishing for:
1. External display rotation in settings
2. Touchscreen monitor support for quick portable pdf and note taking
3. Normal curser icon
4. Ability to fix the scroll direction between trackpad and mouse
#4 touchscreen eliminates the mouse
#4 isn't even possible on a Mac without third party utilities.
The iPad is a Computer, it’s amazing how many people don’t understand that a computer is a concept not one particular device
Still trying to work more via my iPad Pro instead of mostly my Mac Pro, old habits hard to break
Because I had to use other ear buds to finally hear anything when I connect to an external display.
you should change your hdmi adapter that connect to your ipad

🐬 Really enjoying your iPad videos Fernando. Thank you and keep up the great work! 🙏
I’m just about to but an iPad Pro 12.9 so the whole video was great, especially the link to Paperlike as I’d never heard of it before 👍🏼
hello. i always love apple products.
I wish there was 120hz external monitor support
Looking forward to ipad os 18. Hopefully it gets a desktop mode. I bought an m4 ipad pro yesterday and cant wait xD
the main problem to use an ipad as a main computer is the keyboard, there is no interaction as the keyboard on a mac or windows, if you just open a excel file or google sheets file for example you'all going to understand.
as long as ipadOS doesn't support xcode, it will never replace my computer on my case.
iPadOS is still missing some important features so that it can’t replay a PC or Mac.
Stage Manager is still not good. And, more important no changes were made to the files app. You still can’t format or safely eject an external drive.
🐬
iPad is my ‘laptop’ these days too.. Does the basic tasks quite well if all your using is word, safari, mail etc. More than capable device.
Very nicely presented - well done!
thank you and please keep making these videos my ipad Pro is now my main “computer” I’m just praying stage manager keeps developing into a more macos like Ui For individual app we indows please make more videos in how stage manager turns our ipads into computers and how to take full advantage of it’s capabilities and features please?🙏🏽
Nice video Fernando-looking forward to iPadOS 17 🐬
Thank you!
I find the lack of good OCR for scanning to be odd in the stock iPhone notes app.
🐬thanks a lot! I would use my macbook less often but I am still struggling with the battery drain on my ipad pro m2 device
@@nguyen9049 universal control is also buggy even though it's been around for awhile now
Technically speaking the iPad is a computer.
Really enjoy your videos!
Thanks! Trying to move completely to IPad. Getting there. Will Notes ever let you clip entire articles like OneNote and Evernote? I’ve been asking Apple for this for several years now.
Where did you get that globe wallpaper on your IPad?!!
I quit using my computer probably in 2016 and have been using iPads ever since. Mostly because of my age and eyesight. I could make things big enough to read on the iPad.
Hello Fernando, how are you?
I would like know if you were using apple keyboard on this video or similar? If is it similiar, could you say where did you buy?
Congrats, I very appreciate this content!
Best regards!

I would like to see this as a showdown: MacBook vs iPad. I also really love how far the iPadOS software has come since day one (2018).
the macbook is much better overall. basically almost every critique people give ipads is that it’s not a mac. but i still like the ipad pro but at the same time a m1 macbook air is 750$ right now. personality think that’s a better buy
The only concern I have is the stage manager with an external monitor connected is that it heats up the iPad like crazy, I hope apple fixes on this issue.
Thanks for this cool video!
was this video edited on your ipad?? what software do you use?
Try to work on excel n word office is a pain in the neck work with iPads ,
Great vid ! 🐬
Ipad doesn't even have a real free adblock, you cannot even copy and paste something so basic
🐬 great Video Fernando!
This channel in 2028: “ iPadOS 22 Makes Your iPad Pro Even More of a Computer Replacement, Here's How!”
Thanks for such a great video! I’ll need to go through it again for sure, a lot of good stuff in here! (BTW I have now turned on Stage manager!) 😉
On another note, do you have a video on how to install dmg files on an iPad Pro ? Would be grateful if you can steer me towards it if you do! Thanks again 👍

What stand is that for your iPad?
Thanks for a nice overview.

🐬 Great video!
🐬 I’ve been curious. Does center stage work with airplay or does the iPad default to mirroring on airplay? Thx 🙏🏻
Hi, I am a digital artist and I have an iPad Pro m2 use for drawing, but once in a while, I had to edit video and yes, I wish apple would just let us do. What the heck we want to do with this expensive screen but this will never replace my gaming PC
Thank you! Any idea when or how safari articles can be clipped to be viewed entirely in notes? Like being able to view entire PDFs and annotate, this would be such a great study aid.
sooo…do we get 120hz external support now with iPadOS 17? Kinda burns my eyes continuously switching from 60hz(external monitor) and 120hz(iPad Pro). Ouch.
What iPad os 17 would be amazing is if it can turn my 3 year old 12.9inch pro to like new. it is chugging along just find. only thing that i would like is external display support.
I feel the exact same way! Right there with ya. Does external monitor support really need the M1?
@@evanfisher1928 i don't know if u need M2. My Pre-M1 is still just a duplicate of the screen
@@evanfisher1928 dude. I just figured out that even older ipad 11 inch pro support the display option for more space that allow u to use the ipad at more native res. Too bad only m1/m2 12.9 support that option
@@evanfisher1928 i just traded in my 2020 12.9 for the 11 inch M2. What push me over is the 5G. It's getting better than LTE with Telco's investments. Was at restaurant and absolutely horrible experience with LTE while my iPhone didn't skip a beat with 5G
I want to main iPad Pro as my home and mobile set up, but I also want a Mac mini. What is the best remote software so I can remote into my Mac mini with my iPad?
🐬great video!
Can’t wait to try this when the public beta comes out.
The real updates to iPadOS are the tiny UI refinements that makes the system a lot less modal. New menu UI, new Inspector UI, new pop-up buttons. That's where the real usability lies.
You’re the guy who gets excited about new iPhone colors. Nothing you described improves the core usability of the iPad.
@@akfortyfo7024 You couldn't be any more wrong-and that's saying a lot about you.
Does LumaFusion play nice with iOS 17?
On the external camera topic does this mean we can turn the iPad into a portable monitor ? LinkedIn I could connect my switch to it?
I see the iPad eventually becoming the future once people realise their Macs are becoming iPads in every update… as for Windows users, its an Android iOS world now, time to move on…
apple note is good, but would like to have new feature to link attached files with ipad files, to resolve single source of data issues
Can you color calibrate your monitor and save color profile into ipad pro? Default color on a external display through usb c port of the ipad pro is awful.
Looks like they made stage manager worse 😬
Profiles in safari are…. Ok?
What we need is login for different people, exactly like on the Mac; not just safari. It’s an M2! Could handle at least 5 simultaneously working users.
When is ios 17 available?
Can't they just create a limited MacOS version for iPad Pro M-chip models🥲
Leave the boring iPadOS to Air and base iPad models.
Such a powerful device.
