    0:40 I’ve never considered how useful a setup like this would be. Having some windows for pro work apps on the monitor, and the iPad functioning as a touch input screen being able to draw and interact with the pencil and sketches run locally on the same device is wild. This is incredible.

    M1 iPad Pro 13" main computer user, so thank you for every good video! Write down a few things you would like to see. 1. What I always regret about using the trackpad is that I hope I get used to the "three finger drag" and apply it to my iPad. 2. Internal sound device selection - using a 4k monitor, the sound is always connected to the monitor. I wish I could choose from an iPad speaker. 3. Generating a sound mute button on the Safari tab. I hope you can play multiple videos at the same time.🐬

      Same. I’ve been iPad only for 5 or 6 years and it serves me just fine, and I’m a power user. The only thing I wish I could do more easily is emulate retro games. I used to have to jailbreak, but now iOS is workable and meets the needs of the vast majority of people. I feel like 80-90% of people should have an iPad instead of a computer since it’s impossible to screw it up, unless they have a specific need for a computer.

    I love my iPad and use it a lot, but as someone who also uses Windows, I feel like window management on an iPad is such a chore; it’s like the software won’t get out of my way. I desperately miss being able to snap windows left and right by dragging to the side, or being able to minimise/maximise windows with a single click. It’s bizarre that Apple are reinventing the wheel here when most people seeking out and using Stage Manager are going to be power users that don’t mind a bit of complexity. Let us open more than 4 apps in a single workspace. Don’t hide the window management under the three dots. Etc etc. I look at Windows 11 on Surface or DeX on Samsung or even MacOS on a MacBook and question why Apple won’t grant iPad users the same level of freedom.

      Always the reason is : money. If Apple make IPadOS work like MacOS then nobody will buy 2 or 3 device from them. Apple just want to keep people buying MacBook and IPad at the same time.

      Its always about money. Apple deliberately sabotages their own ipad to improve sales of other mac devices and comes up with more compatibility problems to force you to buy more apple products to link to ea h other. In the future you probably won't even be able to hook apple to external monitors that aren't apple. They always try to make things the apple way which is really just some rehash of something that's been out forever.. seriously the widget update that has been out on everything else for like a decade... glorifying app shortcuts scattered on desktop instead of on a windows start menu is what ipad is. All everyone wants is mac os on ipad or at least the option to do so.

      Got the air 5 cheap on Black Friday. I study CS and the taking notes process has been so far good. It’s also an absolute overkill with the m1 chip in it. But I’m not sure if I keep mine yet. Surfing on it with the Logitech combo touch is ok, but I already encountered some silly limitations. I got one MacBook Pro from 2017 and a beefy asus tuf gaming laptop that is thin and actually portable as well. I like having “freedom” on a device. Apple could totally make an macOS lite at least but the gatekeep their devices. Same with the fact that they still sell 8gb ram models as an entry level, which is totally not enough these days and there are many videos and reviews that proof this.

    🐬 As someone who uses the iPad Pro as a main device (I’m a Computer Science Student), i am still very disappointed with the iPad Pro as a whole for multiple reasons. #1-iPadOS is way too handicapped. #1A-I can’t use apps Wireshark, BitTorrent, Terminal, or Xcode/IDEs, all of which i need for school. #1B-Most OS provided tools are so simple: No Audio MIDI and other very handy tools you get on MacOS #2-Consequently, lots of Apps/Services look at the iPad as a secondary device, and they limit their software capabilities accordingly (Like Recording a Zoom Call, or use plugins). #3-The Hardware: #3A-FaceTime Camera placement makes it look like you’re always distracted on Zoom calls; #3B-Magic Keyboard: No Function keys row, Sometimes it just stops accepting input and forces you to restart the iPad; #3C- Only 1 TypeC Port

      @@DeusEx.Machina 💀? If you got an iPad, let alone an iPad Pro for CS, you would have gotten it for written work like maths, project management, and homework worksheets in general. It’s a specialized item for written work, art, and media consumption. If you’re trying to code on it, let alone code on a dedicated app instead of a website like CodeSandbox and only for in-a-pinch situations or trying to use it as a main device (and not just as a sole device to use on lighter days), you’re messin up.

    Thank you ! I have bought the new MacBook Air 15” but returned it after few days when I realized that I like my iPad Pro 12,9” much better. The apps and the working on the iPad felt quicker, smoother and more modern than the Mac. Interesting that it actually felt like going back 10 years when I moved to the Mac after getting used to the iPad.

    • @bankruptsee

      iPad is very limited in comparison. I tried using my m2 iPad Pro as a main device for a couple days.. something as simple as a colleague sending me a spreadsheet to complete and send out was so messy to complete. Particularly saving the file, editing, and sending back. So many steps and in/out of apps to get it done. On my MacBook Air I can just open the file, edit, save, then attach and reply quickly. Plus all of the options for the OS and all the apps is nonexistent on the iPad. I am grateful the iPad ‘can’ get tasks done in a pinch when you don’t have your laptop with you, but it’s far from the quickest or most efficient way to get actual work done. For social media and media consumption, yes the iPad is superior… but for productivity and getting work done, it’s a watered down experience and very limited in comparison to a real Mac.

    The stage manager improvements and third-party camera support (providing all relevant apps can make use of it) are the only things that will help my workflow. I fail to see the benefit of personal voice, as this just feels like more bling to me, like widgets. I would rather Apple add useful functionality to iPad OS, such as VM support / parallels desktop, proper external SSD and memory card support (eject, format, repair), the iOS calculator app, and permit sideloading apps, so you can readily install emulators, even if the Apple App Store doesn't provide them (... you can sideload if you put your iPad Pro into developer mode, but you need a Mac computer plus it's a lot of work). Without this sort of functionality, the iPad Pro will never be a computer, just an oversized smart phone.

The second I open that alert it stops the video. It’s a motion alert. I don’t need to stop the video to see it on the side. Another example, watching a video and open certain articles that have auto playing video players. They automatically stop the video I’m watching even tho I never clicked the video on the article and there’s no sound.

    Apple needs to add a minimize window button at the top of every application running, just like Samsung DeX. Apple doesn't want iPad to be a laptop replacement and why on earth they are putting powerful SoC inside when they are not going to make it usable as a computer.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England ปีที่แล้ว

      They have already explained why they put their most powerful chip inside, for future-proofing. Their data suggest iPad users keep for around 6-7 years so Apple wants to give Day 1 users the best they have so in five years time they will still have a great tablet. Why on earth would anyone complain about this and I suspect you are just trolling as if Samsung puts the next-gen ARM desktop chips in their Tab S Ultra you will not complain. Shocking take by you!

    • @liveliferock
      @liveliferock ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andyH_England What is the point of putting a powerful chip when you are going to limit it's usability? Mac Mini has M1 in it, can you compare it with iPad pro? Apple is simply afraid that if they make iPadOS more useful, it will affect MacBook sale. iPad has huge potential, but Apple won't let people explore that just by implementing some serious limitations in IPadOS. And if you are talking about future proofing I can assure you that most iPad users can get their job done with iPad 9th gen also, watching youtube, netflix, taking notes, drawing these things can be done with iPad 9th gen, you don't need M1/M2 for that.

      @@liveliferock If you ever run a big corporation like Apple then you will realise that unintentional consequences can damage your business. Back in the early days Apple almost went bust due to sharing their OS. They now have data and research that tells them the consequences of changing one variable. I suspect, as it is pretty obvious, that if they allowed macOS on iPads there would be no upside but there would be enormous downsides. What you want and what the shareholders want are two ends of the spectrum. Apple is being sued by shareholders for stuff all the time. If they did what you suggested it is likely heads would roll and lawyers would be suing.

      @@andyH_England Maybe there are sufficient reasons behind this decision or maybe Apple is just afraid that making iPad more productive will cannibalise MacBook sale. I am not asking for Mac on iPad, I am just asking a minimise and maximise button and get rid of stage manager. This will make iPad a whole lot convenient as a portable computer. Just let people minimise the app to the dock and reopen.

    Too bad I need to upgrade my iPad to get stage manager, and would want a bigger one to get enough screen real estate. Also multiple profiles would be useful on iOS as well. We also need split screen. Not sure if this makes an iPad a computer though the way you see with Windows tablets that can be a laptop and tablet like the surface or some other ones.

      Technically speaking the iPad is a computer. In fact the full name of tablets is tablet computer. We them tablet for short leading to all the confusion and Semantics. Apple has severely limited the iPads capabilities intentionally to otherwise encourage people to buy a MacBook instead because of the higher price point. MacBooks bring more revenue for the company. The iPad has the possibility of being the ultimate mobile computer if Apple finally decides to allow it to live up to its true potential.

Ben a teacher or maybe a med student or finance student should be fine, but as u said, it’s dependent on the workflow. I work more on the software end, even my studies are on that end, so even a basic iPad 7 that I have works fine for me.

    Hello! Just found some of your videos as Im finally back in the iPad world. Picked up the pro 12.9 intending to use it as my main computer. I don’t have any other Mac devices at the moment. Which leads me searching for seamless setup. Im just extending my iPad to a 1080 monitor. I don’t know why but nothing seems to be looking as seamless as what I see in your videos. Do you recommend needing another Mac (related) device to support the extended monitor use model? It sounds redundant considering my intent is to use what I have (for work setup - laptop + 2 extended monitors).

    I have been using iPads as my main photo/video/deign toolbox for 2-3 years. I muse when I see articles about making an iPad more like a laptop. The reality is it surpassed a laptop many years ago. Once you understand the device, the interface and the power. Laptops feel very retro and in many ways clumsy! I recall way back when I had my first Mac II using multi finder. And how friends with PCs thought my Mac II was limiting and strange. I see the iPad eventually becoming the future once people realise their Macs are becoming iPads in every update… as for Windows users, its an Android iOS world now, time to move on…
