Unfortunately I don’t have access to stage manager since I own an iPad Air 4th Gen, and it’s only available on the later models the 5th gen and the pros. Would love the feature for when I do productivity so I can keep track of things and on top of that be more efficient.

I think they’re moving in the right direction with these changes..however, one thing I wish they would add is to be able to drag a window to the edge and have it snap to half the screen, or in the corners rather than having to manually adjust the window size every time

@@fkcombustion You can snap to left or right by holding down Command, right clicking on the green button and selecting the snapping on the drop-down menu, but it’d be nice to at least have a toggle for automatic window snapping for most people who prefer that.
I’m not someone who actually liked that being a thing when I was on Windows whenever I want my windows a certain size or shape on either side, so I actually prefer the way Mac OS does it, but I’m a rare exception rather than the norm.

Great info Chris! I use my iPad Pro in a sales rep position. Initially I resisted stage manager, that is until I worked a convention. High paced environment where I need to switch between apps quickly and multitask. Switched on stage manager and it greatly improved my efficiency. Haven't turned it off since and that was back in February.

Ty! So many reddit pages and TH-cam vids say the iPad is not a "main computer", but here you are showing its full potential. As a home inspector, this fits my needs, since the ipad is portable, light weight, and has the ability to adapt to w/e I need w/o having to own a MacBook, or PC. Keep up the great work; you earned a sub!

2nd. I also don't love Stage Manager on the iPad because every time I open a new app it opens a new stage. I wish it would just load the app into the current stage. It feels just a few steps short of greatness. That said it's AMAZING for using external monitors with my iPad Pro M1. Edit: just got to the part where you talked about the wish for the setting to allow you to do this -- YES!

This is my biggest issue with it as a new iPad user. Because I'll open apps one at a time and each of their windows end up in their own stage. Then I'll close all the windows in a Stage I'm in and it will take me to another stage of some random app I opened by itself an hour ago. I just want to go back to the home screen when I close all the windows in a stage.

Soooo much details! Thank you! One thing to know about iPad vs Mac is that the iPad has more hardware limitations like thermals. iPad also has to include touch functionality where Mac does not. This makes it more challenging to have iPad software mirror Mac software. So, I why some things are different between the two. I am also thrilled when iPad offers the same (or better) functionality as a Mac. At work I use iPad 85% of the time for ease of use, battery life, lighter, and smaller. I am excited to see a 14” iPad hopefully with better thermals. Keep up the absolutely great and useful videos!

It would make a lot of sense if they gave stage manager to the iPad 10 with the 4 Windows-Limit and no option to extend the desktop to a second screen; then kept the Air how it is with 2 Screens a 4 Windows and then gave the iPad Pro support for infinite Windows. That would make both the iPad 10 and the Pro way better while keeping the typical upselling limitations so users have reasons to upgrade to more expensive models.

My gaming computer is collecting dust cuz this iPad has all the games and apps I need and it’s easy to use even editing videos. Now theres something bugging me, is there a keyboard shortcut or an option to enable this on clicking the 3 dot option above to easily get off Fullscreen apps. Cuz right now after watching a video or this TH-cam video in Fullscreen I have to drag my mouse down the right corner to resize the app and get off the Fullscreen TH-cam app rather than just click the 3 dot above to click a unFullscreen toggle.

What I can’t seem to understand is the order of multitasking windows. E.g. I swap from one app in one window to one window in another (each app being the first and second app shown in the app switcher shown using the tab key). However if I press F3 and see all the current windows, these two apps are in really unexpected places e.g at least 2 columns across. More frustrating than it sounds!

I’d like to switch back to the iPad as my main computer. I recently sold my M1 iPP for an M2 MacBook Air. If I ever give up my game development hobby, I think I’d switch back immediately.
Photography being my other hobby, I much prefer editing photos on the iPad instead of the Mac. I feel like I have some pretty nice photos and would love to sell them at some point. Is there any ways you’d recommend going about doing that?
I have a shortcut on my iPhone that will randomly choose one of my photos for a wallpaper, it then saves it onto iCloud for the iPad to also run a shortcut ~30 minutes later to grab that same file. It’s nice having matching wallpapers on the devices. Unfortunately, I can’t find a way to automate this on the Mac. I always get nice comments on my photos, would love to get them out to the world somehow - that’s not just instagram.

Stage manager is cluttered, confusing, and redundant.

Totally agree, stage manager feels a step back to an old way of doing computing: the OS becomes again a layer of friction between you and the apps you wanna use. Fortunately we can just leave it off and enjoy a modern and transparent OS.

I bought the MX Master 3S mouse to use with my iPad with Stage Manager and I cannot get the scrolling to work well at all. I've tried enabling and disabling the scroll click thing and it just does not work well. It either stutters and then goes super far or it barely moves at all from a big physical scroll. Is anyone else having this problem or do I have a defective mouse?

I just got a new iPad Pro and I love the idea of Stage Manager, but as someone who has never used it before, it has a steep learning curve. I want to have floating windows like Stage Manager allows but don't want to deal with multiple stages. It's really annoying when I have one app window open in a stage, close it, and it takes me to a random stage I didn't even know I had open because I didn't understand that opening a single app creates a new stage. When I close all windows in a stage, I want to go back to my home screen by default. Just let me customize that.

As per your recommendation for GLOBE key, I selected my hardware keyboard and selected the one I am using, but the modifier key menu doesn’t show up? Is my keyboard too old? I am using the Satechi extended bluetooth keyboard.

It could be that. If you have another Bluetooth keyboard try that one and see if it shows up.

GREAT video, Chris. I have been using Stage Manager since day one, both on my iPad and on my 32” UW monitor. I’ve grown pretty efficient, yet still learned some new tricks from you.

I am seriously considering that if side loading/3rd party stores and significant usability improvements aren’t made to the multitask(like the 4 window limit) my next tablet is not going to be an iPad. I have used iPads since the first one came out and now it is just getting frustrating dealing with the Apple imposed limitations. The Pro devices have no business being call pro with these limitations. Shoot let me install macOS and I’d be happier at this point. I love the form factor but they are really hurting the platform.

They need to fix audio playback! If you can have multiple windows open at the same time, you should be able to play audio from multiple sources too.

You can remove that keyboard bar. Go to Settings > General > Keyboards. Turn off both 'Shortcuts' and 'Predictive.' Voila, it's gone! No more blocked input fields or send buttons.

Expect this turns off the predictive and shortcuts options for the software keyboard which I do use.

The first trick does not work for me. An app window is always at the centre of the screen, I can't move to the right or left side.. What am I doing wrong?

I hate that they removed the word suggestions with enabled stage manager. They do display the text bar thing but why the hell not the suggestions??

If you need more than 4 windows, it is because you are not organized, all work follows a process.

So happy that I switched from iPad Pro 12.9 M1 to MacBook Air 15". Such a great laptop that you could actually use for work! I was trying to adapt the iPad for the last year and a half and tried to love it and watch every possible iPad video that suggests that it's amazing and close to laptop replacement but happy that I trow it away and now use my M2 MacBook Air.

I’m with you on getting rid of the typing bar… until I come to needing autocomplete (name, phone number, email, credit card etc). Is there a way of doing that without the typing bar?

    • @ToadstoolFilms
      @ToadstoolFilms 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Not that you can get rid of the typing bar. But minimising it only to have to unminimise it can be a real pain when you’re doing it a lot.

I got it off toggling off Shortcuts, Predictive and Slide on Floating Keyboard to Type, you can find them in General -> Keyboards, now it only appears when I’m using autocomplete

If Apple would ever allow apps like Mamp Pro on iPad, then it could replace Mac for me, but I doubt localhost work will ever come to iPadOS due to no actual file system.

Wrong, you have one and i work with it. 👉 « On my ipad »

    • @WatchSparkkTV

@@joselucnico The files app is not a file system. Finder on macOS is a file system. The files app more or less is an app that allows you to access cloud, external drive and internal storage. But you can't access hidden files or system files because it's not a file system. That is why apps like Mamp Pro or other localhost apps are not on iPadOS. It would be impossible to install PHP, MySQL and other databases needed to test Wordpress or Joomla based sites. If that would ever come like I said I would be able to do everything on iPad but it's highly unlikely.

12:28 Hey, handsome guy! Thanks so much for putting this video out. Had no idea it was so powerful and that there were so many keyboard shortcuts. Gotta admit, it’s going to be a pretty steep learning curve, but I really want to do a better job at giving iPadOS a shot than I have in the past. Been using a 13” that I’ve always felt is too unwieldy, so I ordered an 11”, but after watching this, I think I probably need to get the 13” for more display real estate.

    • @ChrisLawley
      @ChrisLawley  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

Hey! Thank you so much! Love your videos. I definitely prefer the 12.9/13 size because of the real estate.
