Buffy tells him that the last person she knew that thought it was fun is in a coma. Riley says that he knows part of her reluctance is because of someone in her past, and Buffy just tells him to leave her alone.
@@angelwkw3 I think it was spoiled for her in Graduation Day comments, she thought what the doctor said meant Faith was really dying. I myself could have been one of the culprits, for which I apologize. If we commenters had not said anything about the possibility of her just staying in a coma indefinitely - which is a common TV trope - she could have gotten to go on believing Faith was dead. Then if she missed the line in s4e11 mentioning the coma, she could have gone on being blissfully wrong and then been flabbergasted by this episode, or if she caught that line she could have been surprised then. It's a fair point. Of course Slayers have superior healing, it has been mentioned a number of times, which is why believing the doctor's prognosis of "there's very little chance she'll ever recover" when the doctor almost certainly does not know about that fast healing is a bit surprising. What surprised me as a viewer was that the Watchers Council actually didn't kill Faith off while she was in a coma, they just...watched her. If they'd taken that step over the line, they could have gotten themselves a shiny newly activated young girl to carry the Slayer burden. But I guess they still had a moral compass, however broken it might be, and couldn't justify outright murder of a helpless Slayer when they still had Buffy taking care of the Sunnydale Hellmouth. 🤷♂️ Of course they could have killed her "just for a minute" and then revived her...
When I saw Faith was dreaming, I got excited. People in comas can dream, but often there aren't the normal signs of REM stage sleep, which is when most dreams occur. So I was thinking that Slayer healing had finally fixed all the damage and she would be waking up soon, which she did. Huzzah! I don't think the Mayor "just" wanted to eat people; he'd told his minions that eating a bunch of people was crucial right after the change to make it permanent or something. So he needed to eat people immediately - but once he was fully a demon, he might well have had additional plans besides "just eating people". Personally I don't know how he was going to keep from attracting the attention of the military, maybe he had a plan for dealing with that, maybe not. Maybe he planned to rule the city from underground, like the other big snake demon that he'd tried to sacrifice some babies too... 🤷♂️ Great call on the body swap! You guessed it before Faith-in-Buffy confirmed it; the "five by by" is where most reactors realize what happened.
You might want to give a polite "no spoilers" request each episode, and get a mod if you don't have one yet. As you have experienced, Buffy fans sometimes go too far in the comments. And in 8 episodes you are going to start the best season of genre television in history. You _do not_ want that spoiled.
The start where they are making the bed and Faith says 'Little Sis Coming' it will all make sense just be patient. Foreshadowing overload here! Even though I think S4 was not the best of Seasons overall, the stand out episodes and the comedy moments and one liners reached new levels. Faith's awakening dream scene a homage to 'Tim Robbins in Shawshank Redemption. Great writing again here. Soulless Spike still doing the best comedy ever. Great to see The Mayor in the video, a terrific ending to this episode setting up another great episode to follow. Very much a two parter with the even better next episode Who Are You.
