- Today Architectural Digest is welcomed to Los Angeles by actor-producers Viola Davis and Julius Tennon for a tour of their tranquil, newly-renovated family home. Davis and Tennon, along with their 12-year-old daughter, Genesis, lived in their Toluca Lake home for about five years before embarking on a renovation with LA designer Michaela Cadiz. “I always want to go big and bold, but not too bold, not garish,” says Davis, the acclaimed Oscar-, Emmy-, and Tony-winning actor and founder (with Tennon) of JuVee Productions, a company that develops film, television, theater, virtual reality, and digital projects. “We were working in South Africa, shooting The Woman King, while the renovation was unfolding, and we were inspired by the incredible color and culture there.”

Although this is a multimillion dollar mansion and trophy property, it feels unpretentious and like an authentic home where a family resides. Viola and Julius emit such a comfortable and familial energy. Their home reflects their style, the lives they have built, and their prideful heritage. Glad they have given us a glimpse.

I Love how she has retained her down-to-earth way about her. She is Truly a Beautiful human being. And that Beautiful green Grecian dress on her beautiful black skin, makes her look like the Goddess that she IS!

I’m reading her autobiography and seeing where she is more from growing up in a flat with no heating , risk of fires due to faulty wiring in her building, dealing with mice infestations and going to school smelling of urine due to not being able to shower in the winter this is so inspiring

I’m loving the energy between Aunty Viola and Uncle Julius. If we were friends in real life, I would enjoy hanging out with them. Their space feels warm, inviting and culturally inspired. If you don't mind to briefly summarise - what happened during her childhood?
She was very poor growing up. She barely had clothes & shoes. One of the apartments she lived in did not even have heat, gas, or electricity. I am still on chapter 4 but so far, that is what I have read about her childhood. Really happy to see her now living like this🥰

Viola and Julius' home confirms that they are truly real, and natural souls. it's soooo classy yet sooo cozy! With no bias thoughts, this is probably literally THE most coziest and realistic home of a celebrity. It doesn't look like a museum or just a whole bunch of expensive stuff thrown together. YES!!!!!! I listened to a video on TH-cam where she talks about hearing rats eat the birds that land on the roof or the ground of the building she used to live in and how she did things just to get food to eat, her father's alcohol problem, etc. She is so worthy of the fruits of her labor.
This was one of my favorite AD home videos. The house is stunning, elegant, and still feels homey, and it's the first time I hear it from the partner's perspective too which was fun, it felt way more natural than other celebrities' homes that feel more like museum/ interior design stores. I was in awe of every room. Loved it (and love her)

This actually looks and feels like a home! Some of the house tours I’ve seen are designed to look like nobody lives there and it’s so creepy. Love that they have family photos! And that their daughters room looks like a little girls room!
eh i dont really agree, only the daughters room looks like that. the rest looks just like staging to me, right down to the transitional style. still liked it though
