I cannot thank you enough for the field of view tip. I've been playing for 4 months and was always wondering why I was so bad at PvP and struggling so hard to keep track of ennemy's movements *facepalm*
Been playing more solo recently than in groups. Learned one *major* lesson after a vault: Park on the backside of an island, particularly for those around world borders. You're a lot harder to spot behind the island than directly in front of it. It's also usually a lot easier to GTFO once you're done looting.
I've started using sword as means of mobility and dodging like you have said and have instantly gotten much better results in PvP. I haven't quite utilized the dash a lot, but just using the sword in a different, more efficient way has made me miles better at pvp to the point I can now consistently lock down ships solo.
I’ve definitely seen a huge issue with health management also. Half the time it only takes a sword lunge or so to take out someone who doesn’t keep an eye on their health
wearing the same outfit can be beneficial though. If your friend gets shot by a sniper, the enemy will then think that the guy in the reaper suit is low, until you who also have the reaper suit on and have full health
I was hoping for this comment whenever Mr and my friends run reaper brig we always all wear reaper outfits only to just cause confusion among the other team and man let me tell you how good it works when 2 ppl board and they only see one of you. The confusion after one chases them them downstairs and I just lunge him. Can't tell you how many times iv heard the same reaction. What!!? Theres two of them?
@@XxMidnightToker420xX I would like to think that people falling for that are the same kind of players that need to watch videos like this. As a new player, I went into the game like I would with DND. My character is decked out with Grand Admiral cosmetics. I’m happy. His storyline fits perfectly now.
Tbh I've been playing since Closed Beta and still do a few of these things. I just love my Firebombs, but I always use them to set ablaze enemy ships alongside the enemy players but I focus the ships first and try to catch the players only as a bonus. I'm weaker at PvP (which is why I'm here, I'm looking to get better) compared to my crewmates, so my role when engaging another ship is to sow chaos, get onto ships and lower anchors, engage enemy players to distract them from my crewmates who are better at PvP, etc. If you can get them in the right place, firebombs CAN be used effectively, and at the very least will waste the time of the enemy crews. Otherwise I cannon, I patch, I bail, I watch ladders... we've been playing together for a long time so we're a decently coordinated team. I'm also fond of using island cannons whenever possible to blindside an enemy ship from an angle they probably aren't expecting. I just need to get better at blocking, lol. xD
Also found out that if you want to escape from a ship larger than you, you need to go against the wind, cuz more sails work against their favor in this case.
I'm new to the game and solo most of the time and try as much as possible to stay out of pvp (I just wanna sell chickens and tea leaves 😂) but I will try and utilise the tips here as much as I can whenever I do find myself in a pvp situation! Awesome video!
I can tell your a solo player, it's the way you move. Galeon crews rarely move this clean, it's been a while since I've been on the sea's but this vid makes me want to hope back on my sloop and sample some of the new content. Nice video, it's dead on accurate, seriously people your ship should never be anchored ever.
If I know I am not going to leave my ship before I engage an enemy, I like to keep a gunpowder barrel to open the fight with. I will never leave my ship alone with a gunpowder barrel though, and will always use it whether that be boarding the enemy ship or throwing it overboard before the canon balls start flying. Yeah that might be a bit risky, but I just find hitting a ship with a gunpowder barrel satisfying and worth the risk for me.
I haven't watched the whole vid yet but my tip is if you have a sword especially on a sloop, go to that bottom level and charge your dash as soon as turn around at that barrel/stove and I guarantee you 90% of the time they will follow you and you will do 50 damage and/or have time to heal if needed because of the knockback Edit:I don't know how to spell garentee and fixed it
Hey just found you a few days ago and even though I consider myself pretty decent, I have picked up a few really helpful tips from you. Thanks! Particularly bunny hopping through a guy during a sword fight to hit him from behind. That tip allowed me to easily dumpster a brig yesterday (the first time I got to try that trick)! Subbed and followed my man.
The anchor trick is only really good for the sloop since it's quick to pull it back up, unlike the galeon which need 3 (4 preferably) people to get it up quickly
You can increase your FOV past 90° if you have the steam version. All you have to do is add stuff to the config file. there is a steam guide about it. I love it, you can actually see more of your arms too!
i sometimes wore the reaper costume just when i want to "roleplay" a reaper, like gull outfit, ship, guns aaaaand the rest of the items you have and ofc, reaper emisary, but my fav skin is to go something full black and tuck on enemy ships or on forts and just mess with people
I will continue to wear the reaper outfit because i like masks, and specifically the first person view with the gloves. if there was a cool looking mask or helmet that can match up with a jacket, i'll be sticking with the reaper costume. my point here being, i don't like characters faces in games. especially the sea of thieves player models.
4:25 is literally so accurate, i just got the game like 2 weeks ago and i only have 98 hours but 100% i definitely tried to do this maneuver several times with my friends and got us sunk every single time LOL
One thing I think the anchor turn can be good in some cases like one time I did on on a solo grade 5 reaper got them in a death spiral died really quickly.
Tbh, I only wear the Reaper's costume when Im going for a Reaper's Emissary run, and it's mostly to match the Reaper's Bones ship cosmetics, I like when things match.
I saw a crab lord claiming he was experienced and better than me, he said he played for 2yrs, he also got pissed that we didn’t grab a marauders. Crab lords are never good
Tip, if you have a hard time timing your stop, use the anchor to stop the boat, roll up your sail and raise your anchor. (This is what I do when stopping on an island)
Nah,I wear every costume belonging to each mission I'm working on,the costume literally tells you nothing. Also, don't trust other crews that may seem friendly, or always keep an eye out,I always prepare with some blunderbombs .
I've gotta admit, I'm guilty of a couple of these, some previously, some currently. I got the Reaper outfit like everyone else, but I'm at least happy to say I only actively wore it for a couple days before going back to my regular Forsaken ensemble. (Though, on that note, I feel like it should be mentioned that wearing the Reaper outfit because it looks cool should not be frowned upon. Wearing it to look intimidating should, because it doesn't work. It's cosmetic, it's not a super suit. Wearing it doesn't make you a PvP God.) I also used to use anchor, but actually stopped upon watching one of your earlier videos on ship combat. Then there are things I didn't even know existed, like sword strafing when blocking, or FOV, which I didn't even know was editable until this video. Then again, it never really ends up mattering a whole lot, because whenever I get into a fight, it's usually near an island, and when I get in proximity to islands (especially outposts), my game tends to freeze and lag at the most critical times. And even when an island is already rendered, players attacking tend to reinvigorate the lag, so I don't even get a real chance to fight them. I probably should get a new computer, but I'm a poor boy, and though I technically have the funds to do so, it would sap them pretty hard to get a good PC.
The only thing is, when I use the sloop and I roll up my sails. I'll go look for chests and get say distracted with fighting other pirates and I'll come back and my ship has moved. When you put your sails up it doesn't fully stop you
Wow I didn't know about the sails I thought if your sail bellows out a little it's faster. But if you can't catch it at all straight was faster. Thanks
No offence but reaper is one of the 2 options if you want to have a hood/ look like an assassin from assassins creed. And the other option is in the emporium
Common misconception due to a lack of experience playing against better players. Anyone with a bit more game knowledge will take advantage of you having a keg on your ship, 100%. I can't even count how many times I've just blindly sniped at a crow's nest, not even being within render distance to see if a keg is there, and what do you know... Boom... :'D
Regarding gun barrels, I'd argue you could take them aboard (hide them below deck of on the crows nest) BUT, dont bother with regular ones. Stronghold gun barrels though, fetch a high price, so it's a risk vs reward. Having a lot of look onboard is always a risk, you might be attacked by a megalodon, its all about risk management, rather than mitigation.
1:31 this is btw the crying baby which you have sunk yesterday together with the 4 men galone. xD just notice the name cuz im watching the vod from last stream.
ive used the anchor two times the last week. I fought some sweaties that were just sitting waiting for me to come to them so they could board me and run me out. So i sailed directly towards them and just anchor turned. It cought them of guard making it work. But in other situations i dont do it.
Trust me, it's not worth it. If you've managed to keep kegs on your ship during a fight and not had them blown up, the players you've been up against have just been terrible at the game. Grab kegs when you know you'll be using them soon, otherwise not.
@@Lewzyd you get the point, but still your advise is good for new players who keep kegs without using them or doesn't know how to do it properly. Im not deny your Point of view, but my expierience show that there's some situations where kegs are very useful. Also, I hardly ever get one when I play solo. I agree in that case, it's too risky and doesn't matter how expierienced you are.
I don't wear a reaper costume... Unless I'm on a reaper emissary gallon where everyone else is wearing one, because standing out from the other three crew members usually tells your opponents "Aim for that one, their probably more experienced". Personally I rock the ashen curse aka "lamp shade mode" which does hinder my ability to hide, because other players will follow a glowing pirate like moths.
Oh my gosh being out of ammo... ill never forget when I did that. There was this one time I got into pvp with a brig that was yelling slurs (ok to be fair it was just one of them yelling slurs) and I was trolling them by jumping off their ship every time I climbed on board to do hit and run attacks to mess with them, and during this I didn't notice I was out of ammo and kept pressing the trigger thinking "why am I not shooting!?" Onky to have it dawn on me that im a dumb ass before dying because of my mistake.
So what do you recommend for console players when they encounter PC players who have third party software like insta kill or auto aim, teleportation or speed load? What strategy do you recommend when you encounter a cheater? 🤨
You just seem salty against pc-players, i never encountered a cheater and ive been playing since very long. Most sketchy shit can be attributed to sea if thieves poor hitreg and network
Is it true, that the hitboxes are different if you're playing a fat pirate or a thin pirate? Because sometimes i dodge shots that should've hit me (i play the fat model and you wont stop me using it xD)
I’m new with out a doubt, but I find it effective to cause panic to the enemy crew, by throwing fire bombs after dropping their anchor, usually I’ll Throw it when they start to raise it, they run like ants
Everytime I watch your videos I see you doing pretty impressive lunges, I'm just curious though, do you have any tips on how to deal with people doing lunges like yourself? Best way to block? Is sidestep fast enough perhaps? I haven't been playing very long so my skills are not sharp enough to be fast enough to test this yet. Thanks 😅
I will add (this is genuinely a great video for tips btw) that quite simply there's lots of people trying this game out that have little interest in PvP, therefore they don't even try to practice it. Myself, I practice it pretty much only so I can defend my own ship against those pvp thirsty players that forgot about the whole rest of the game. I'm nearly level 60 on the main groups and still have yet to attack a ship, lol. I'm here to fish, chase down megs, sink skeley ships, track down captains, do forts, go on voyages, and tall tales. I'm not a pirate, lol I'm a explorer and adventurer! Now, all that said: Watching Phuzzybond and a few others like yourself has helped me in my two months go from brand new to at least able to fight off average players in a straight up fight. Only two things give me trouble now... -Vultures: Those who intentionally wait for you to be otherwise occupied (like the duo sloop that went in on me only after a meg and skeley ship were both on me) are always an issue for me when solo'ing. Even when my wife and I are sailing together, crews wait for us to go on islands and then attack our ship when they know that it's left alone. Really the simple thing to me is that the vulture type is scum. They just wait to sink a ship, not wanting a fight at all, but rather an easy sink. Most of the time they're not even after loot. -Full brig crews while I'm solo'ing on a sloop: Unless they're terrible, I still lose this one normally. One guy has to manage everything, while a 3 person brig can dedicate one person to repairs/bails, one to attacking with both cannon and repeat boarding, and the third can manage the navigation. Again, unless they are terrible and the solo player is very good, that's a sink (at least for me). I may never get amazing at PvP in Sea of Thieves, mainly because I'm not even here for that, I just want an enjoyable game with some nice adventures with friends or even while solo.
You just summed up my entire experience with this game and i empathize a lot with what your saying. If you ever wanna just do chill pve in sea of thieves hit me up, im looking for more friends to play it with anyway.
It’s funny and also a huge help but it maybe hard and also difficult but I done this and it helps but I’m always in gally crews so it’s always a mixed situation but if I see a brig or maybe even a sloop going crosswind then I’d you another sloop take there boat and chase with yours behind I done it and it worked fairly well
What I never understood about the whole anchor discussion is: why not drop it to stop momentum and then just pull it up agains. I mean when you go on an island, not in combat.
There's nothing wrong with it. People just parrot that tactic without logic or reasoning. It is much quicker to drop the anchor and stop the ship where you want, raise sails, then raise the anchor again. Some people just hear something from someone who sounds like they know what they are talking about and then repeat it. But yeah, nitpicking at the sails just so you can slowly coast to your landing spot doesn't give you any real advantage. The real mistake is just leaving your anchor down so you can't escape quickly. As long as you don't do that you are good.
Because you have to make the whole crew stop whatever they were doing and help raise the anchor for something that should have been a one person job. Anyone who considers themselves even "decent" at helm should be able to park the ship quickly without needing the anchor. Redgent is probably the kind of helm who sails directly at the island but thinks he's good at the game and knows better than Blurbs.
This makes me wanna wear the Reapers costume just because you said not to.
When no means yes.

I agree in that case, it's too risky and doesn't matter how expierienced you are.
@@kudeuszbruh9360 So in other words, you're wrong but sometimes you're lucky and don't die from hoarding kegs. :'D
#1 is so true i grinded for the reaper outfit when i was new
Great content. This reminds me of the galleon full of reaper outfits in arena. We went straight for them.. ;)
Love your videos man; keep it up.
I have kinda been a fan of the nightshine parrot cosmetics. Even when I was a brand new player. Lol. Although I have started branching out more now
Oh my gosh being out of ammo... ill never forget when I did that.
The same thing as when you see a console player using AI heuristics and a modded mouse to aimbot.
That's cheating.
Hey great video, btw what clothing items are you wearing?
Ferryman jacket and triumphant sea dog pieces
@@Blurbs awesome thx man
Is it true, that the hitboxes are different if you're playing a fat pirate or a thin pirate? Because sometimes i dodge shots that should've hit me (i play the fat model and you wont stop me using it xD)
Nope they are the same
@@Blurbs thank you. Now i can show my crew a screenshot of this comment so they wont tell me anymore to change my model :D
I love when my friends pick the chubby dude.. looks hilarious and they look like a new player regardless of how good they are.
Field of view is in graphics settings not gameplay if anyone is confused
So do anchors have ANY use? Cause most higher-level people I've heard don't even consider it for parking purposes.
Every time I get nervous that I'll be featured in one of these videos
I wear it to confuse the other players seeing as everyone uses it
I’m new with out a doubt, but I find it effective to cause panic to the enemy crew, by throwing fire bombs after dropping their anchor, usually I’ll Throw it when they start to raise it, they run like ants
Thanks 😅
It really depends on how far away they are but a sidestep is a good start!
@@Blurbs I'll practice sidestepping more, tried your lunging tips today and already winning fights outnumbered. Thanks!
That ship set in the intro is sick what is it?
Mistake 1-b: Flying the Reaper's Mark flag because it looks cool. 9 times out of 10, if I sail up on a ship with the Reaper's Mark flag, they are new.
It’s funny and also a huge help but it maybe hard and also difficult but I done this and it helps but I’m always in gally crews so it’s always a mixed situation but if I see a brig or maybe even a sloop going crosswind then I’d you another sloop take there boat and chase with yours behind I done it and it worked fairly well
Bro I've said "imma keep it a buck 50 with you you don't want this smoke" so many times and for some reason it actually works most of the time
4:27 idk why but I remembered the battleship epic movie scene. Anyone's same with me?
So if I wear the Reaper pj's, nobody will see me as a threat? Sounds like the perfect gambit.
I’m confused what he means to hold your block . What button do you press on Kbm?
What I never understood about the whole anchor discussion is: why not drop it to stop momentum and then just pull it up agains.
I mean when you go on an island, not in combat.
same
There's nothing wrong with it.
I have a question: is there some way to make your sword hit faster? I see that you hit considerably faster than I do.
Missing a swing causes you to become staggered and unable to swing again for a short period of time. This might be what you're experiencing?
@@LewzydYes that’s what was happening. Thank you!
@@ruslamp2838 No problem! :)
What hull is that brig using?
You can silently bord ships when aiming or blocking with sword so you don't hear the border. Big PRO TIP.
its patched out
@@neekk040 that was over a month ago bro.
I came up to say hi to you, and you were nice enough to sell my treasure for me.
I only ever really anchor during combat, If I have a crewmate capable of a sloop anchor turn
is the sloop really the fastsest weve been chased by a brig on a sloop and it kept up no problem even against the wind
The number 1 made me spill my tea. Lmao
Good content my man!
can you blame people for using the reaper costume tho? looks so good
