Can you please tell me how much backspace I need for 285s I'm rocking 17x8 with +18 offset (TSS wheels) Edit: idc about cutting. Just need to know if I need new UCAs or new wheels
I have 2015 with trd pro wheels 285/70/17 bfg ko2 2.5 “spacer in front . There is minor rubbing only under severe articulation . There is no rubbing under normal driving conditions.
So 100% no rubbing on the body mount ? I really want to go 285s but I’m scared it might rub and do body mount chop. I also have a 17x9 -12 offset wheels. 3” lift Please reply soon I’m going to the shop this week n buy new tires. Thank you🙏
I have a super super slight rub on it when at full lock backing down a hill. But it’s so minor and the tire lugs don’t grab it. But on flat ground it doesn’t do it for some reason 🤷🏻♂️. Hers is 2.75” lift so with 3” you should have some more clearance as well. I’d definitely recommend the 285s, you will love the look and it drives nice still.
@@donkuschel5326 thanks so much 4runner fam 🤙🏽 that helps allot ! I’ll go ahead and get the 285s, if it rubs. I’d probably just get a new 0 wheels with 0 offset. Lol
@@donkuschel5326 Thanks so much bro ! Got my 285 last week. No rubbing on body unless reversing on full lock reverse down a hill. Other than that it does not rub !
To run 285s properly, you need 8" wide rims. I would not want to risk a blow out at highway speeds should I need to take evasive action when granny drifts into my lane (actually happened). Then there's the additional weight, lower gas mileage, re-gearing of the front and rear differentials and decreased braking efficiency resulting in greater stopping distances. So, for $1,000 for rims, $1,300 for tires, $1,500 for re-gearing and 25% increase in fuel costs every time you fill up (20 mpg down to 15 mpg), I'm not sure if "the look" is worth the cost. You can skip re-gearing and enjoy crappy performance off the line as well as towing issues due to lower torque.
You are not correct about the 8” wide wheel. Go look at any tire manufacturer they all say 7.5-9.0 for that size tire. As for gas mileage, yea you lose..but you do anytime you but bigger wheels on something. We are still getting 18-19 with the 285s. Regearing might be necessary if we used the truck for off-road or heavy towing..but honestly it gets neither.
@@donkuschel5326 With 7.5" being the minimum, how is 7.0" okay? There are minimums for a reason. Go past that and you could be looking at something not good as a result. Mileage varies depending on add-ons. That's still a good number, all things considered. But going below minimums as to wheel width is never a good idea.
If you actually take this truck off road then you’re gonna need to trim more than that…if this is just another mall crawler well hey at least it looks good
Thanks for showing this, you did an awesome job on this video dude! (i just saw this, I know it's 7 months old) Good Luck!
Nice. How are those front mud flaps holding up since you cut them?
Thanks! Don’t even notice they’ve been cut!
@@donkuschel5326 👍🏼. I’ll probably do the same. I have 285/70R17’s on a 3” lift and they rub on the mud flaps the same way. Thanks
hey how do you like these wheels. I am thinking of ordering them for my MGM color 4runner
@@taifmunsur loved them, think they are a great option at their price point!
What's the height of your 5th gen for the front and rear?

How tall should you measure in the front part so that a tire of that average fits well?

Body mount chop is simple and inexpensive mod. If you're going to offroad, you will definitely want to do BMC. Even then, you may rub a little...
@@tommyung3654 fully agree! If this were a trail rig I’d definitely chop the mount. But my wife will never really off-road this
Where did you position the jack like you did in the front to lift the entire front end?
The skid plate under the engine has a support that pushes on the crossmember. It’s like a donut shape in the middle of the flat portion of the plate.
what were the original rims and tires you had inthe beginning of the video at 1:03
Method MR312s
@@donkuschel5326 thanks!!
Could it feasibly be cut to retain the inside bolt as well?
I do not think so, but honestly they didn’t flap around without it
what's the height of your lift?
Did lift your car
Did you lift your car before putting 285
Yes, before

@@InGratitudeIam not sure why you keep talking 7”? I clearly say in the video they are 17x9s 😂
what position are your bilstein's set at?
At the highest setting
Unfortunately most of these shots were way too dark. Really need some additional lighting.
I definitely agree and once I got to editing I was disappointed in the footage

Flashlight, use a flashlight, nothing is seen
now you have half a flap new mod😂
