WOW. You are such a tremendous resource and I’m simply stunned by how many of my lasting questions were answered in this single video. Thank you so much for providing such comprehensive, organized, and expert makeup brush information. (Oh! Not only do I admire your knowledge and expertise but I admire your Japanese pronunciation!) ❤️
A suggestion on brush wiping would be scraps from an old cotton t-shirt. I like using t-shirt scraps for glasses wipes because they're soft and lint-free from all the washings, plus smooth so no scratching. Cotton because it minimizes chances for static, t-shirt because the knit fabric means the edges of the scraps don't fray. Plus you can just toss the wipes in the washer and dryer without worrying about ruining them. T-shirt scraps are also nice for use instead of cotton rounds when cleaning the eye area. Thanks so much for this video Alicia, it's a lot of wonderfully useful information. Definitely going to refer to it next time I buy myself some brushes!
Great video! Between you and Tina from The Fancy Face doing brush videos, I have a great collection of brushes. My favorites being my Chikuhodo silver fox series.
The Sonia G Lotus set was my first natural brush purchase and I do love them, beautiful, but I think my skin is even more sensitive and I would like to have a few squirrel brushes for certain tasks to complete my mini collection.
I’ve really been needing to up my brush game! As amazing and delicious as these brushes sound, I decided after some serious thought that I can’t support fur farming for my makeup pleasure. So I dug through the Fude Beauty site and found some beautiful looking vegan brushes, and just got myself a little haul 😺 I also purchased the gorgeous brush roll, which just so happened to be on sale, and to top it all off I was able to use your discount code for my order. Even though I can’t do natural hair brushes, your video was incredibly informative in terms of brush shapes, bristle length and density, etc and helped me support the legacy of Japanese artisans who have produced brushes like these for centuries. That will make me smile every time I do my makeup. Thanks gorgeous!!! 💖🇯🇵
Alicia thank you so much for this video I needed to understand the proper way to use brushes to make sure I do not damage my expensive Wayne Goss, Chikuhodo, or Sonia G. I did purchase the T11 to use for my foundation after your recommends on a different video and it is amazing I love it.
I also got the T11 from Alicia’s recommendation and love it! I think I prefer it over the Sonia G fusion mini base, though the new Lotus base fan brush also have enough strength and paddle-like feeling for me.
I really love how you explain everything very well. I got into wearing blush and I really like it. I just don’t like it to be so much but enough to see it. And you help me decide what kind of brush to get. Now I have to pick between 2 brushes. I’m glad I have a much better idea. Thanks so much.
This was such an informative video - thank you! I have a lot of rephr brushes and I got the Keyaki Sonia G set for my birthday this year but haven't dived too deeply into fude as it can be overwhelming trying to figure out what are the best choices. This video will be a big help!
I need this. I use my fingers to apply everything and have finally realised I need to upgrade to brushes! Would like to invest in 3, maybe 4, travel friendly, cream/powder friendly workhorses 🤔
Thanks for this comprehensive video ❤️! Just want to point out that "fine light peak" is what Saikoho literally translates into 😊, I think that part might have been confusing for some.
WOWZA , this was epic, amazing, fantastic etc, etc. As someone who has only been using natural haired brushes for a few years my understanding of "what is what" is/was fairly limited. I think I just have plated this vid at least 3 times just to make sure I really understood everything you spoke about. I use a goats milk bar of soap to cleanse my brushes (a tip I had learned from Mary, at GlitzyFritzy). It's so very gentle and has little scent if any at all. I can't wait to see the upcoming vids. Oooooo, I'm excited! Love, light and much happiness, 💗💗💗💗
😯 The contour from the Hindash palette... wow... Das pretty! 🤩 I haven't picked that up, but if it is still available that would be an awesome makeup revisited video! I love Pat. I love love love her, but I don't "need" constant shine and dazzle... OMG... Pat aaaand Hindash and LISA? 🤯 All STAR Vidgeo?! Oh and Natasha... who will make the cut... dun dun dun... *whispers* Danessa?
Love my Hindash palette. I don't use face palettes, ever. So I don't buy them, ever. (I love blush palettes but for bronzer, contour, and highlight I dont use palettes, and I never get the "all inclusive face palettes-like that have bronzer, contour, blush, highlighte, etc.) But I can absolutely use the Hindash palette for eyes and face and not feel like I'm missing anything. LOVE it
@@carriekup that makes sense. The shades in face palettes are rarely universal even if they have options for depth of color. I thought I missed out on the Hindash palette, but it looks like has partnered with a retailer for increased distribution. 😃 I will have to get one during a sale.
@@MsSavvy9 I hope you love it as much as I do. It's a more firmly pressed but thin formula than I am used to. And if I had just heard a description like that, of Simi-firmly pressed and a thin feeling powder, I would have assumed I wouldn't have liked it. But I truly do love it. And theres enough variation within each pan and just across the palette that I would guess it works for many skin tones as a face palette too. I missed the initial launch, but I caught a restock. I just checked the Hindash website every now and then and saw it was back eventually. Hope you get your hands on it!
I have a question about how the hairs are harvested! I know a lot of squirrel hair comes from Canada, and lord knows we have lots of squirrels, but I don’t see anybody hunting squirrels… same with fox hair, I’ve avoided buying fox hair brushes because I’m concerned about how they are harvested (yes, I care about foxes more than squirrels). I cannot for the life of me find any information on hair source.
I have the same concerns and believe that in these situations it is important for the companies to be transparent about their practices so that consumers understand where their money is going. Because there doesn’t seem to be any info about where makeup brush fur specifically comes from, I think it would be safe to assume that animals like foxes, tanuki, and squirrels are raised to in cages on farms and then killed for their pelts just as is done for wearable fur. It is easy enough to find info about fur farms in general. Most of these farms are in places where they are not well regulated, and have been documented to use extremely unethical and disturbing practices (if you’re someone who believes animals are sentient being worthy of respect, which I am). I have decided for myself that as lovely as these brushes sound, I can’t risk participating in an abusive industry. To make it simple: I would not wear fur so I cannot justify purchasing fur brushes. I do highly value the work of the artisans however, and am going to try to find another way to support their work.
That suggestion about the camphor: do you apply it to the actual bristle? I may apply some on a cotton round and place in the drawers I store my brushes in. 🤷🏽♀️ Tfs!!! The Bisyodo is on my list so I’m excited for your review.
I just picked up the Lotus set and I'm thrilled you did this! I've got Rephr brushes but this is my first really pricey set and I've been paranoid I will destroy them.
And here I thought Canadian squirrel was designated by the bristles apologizing if the blend doesn’t work perfectly the first time out. 😉 But seriously, this is so helpful; I’ve been checking out Fude’s site since you recommended it, and find it both inspiring and overwhelming. Your guidance, along with the artisans’ input, really cleared a lot up for me - though next time, if you or they could give me tips on how to convince my wife I need these, that’d be awesome. 😄
I have this video bookmarked. Thanks for all the useful information on all the types of brushes! So Fude brushes do not last long? Can you get "years" out of them if you take good care of them or eventually, they will not be as good? I'm debating whether to spend lots of $$ on expensive brushes or spend less money and get doubles, so I have a backup.
If you take care of them properly they will outlast any synthetic brush:) I know I’m responding to a year old comment but I just thought I’d mention it in case you’re still interested:)
Great video, Alicia. Love the Homare KZ series but I don't think you can get it anymore. Maybe through a reseller, but it's pretty much sold out elsewhere. And I got the sense they weren't bringing it back :(
Girl, your videos go IN!!! My wallet can only stretch to the Rephr brushes right now and unfortunately not Fude, but I'm eyeing up Sonia G's Lotus range. And if she does that chunky fan brush on its own I'll suck salt for toffee and geddit! That being said, if I get a windfall Imma blow up Fude's website for the goodness! 🙏🏾 At least I can the refer back to this video. Thank you so much.
Strong back?! I'm in! 😄 Omgosh your little flex 💪🏽 🙆🏽♀️ You are looking super fit girl! I can see that you are back at it hard with your training! You slapped your abs yesterday and it sounded like bricks. I slapped mine... well... I got an extra challenge in my ab workout with all the laughing. 🤷🏽♀️ this is why I don't turn my camera on 🤡
What id like know is what is your favourite brush for foundation and why? I’ve looked at the fude brush videos but then I also like Wayne goss and Sonia g and I’m not sure what that difference is
Hi Isabelle! Chikuhodo T-11 is a practical choice. Smaller than the Bisyodo, but I find optimal for travel. Even if we’re home, T-11 can also be used for concealer and blush.
great video Alicia! I have started getting into Fude just recently but I have a concern which I cannot find an answer to anywhere. I am on well water and I use salt in my filter. Would this type of water and salt combo affect the quality of my brushes when I clean them or should I use distilled bottle water?
Are puff brushes and rounded brushes the same thing? Is goat, horse, raccoon, weasel and squirrel hair brushes ethically / cruelty free sourced? I don't want to hurt cute little rodents, mammals, equine and other animals. 😉
I'm back! I had to... life/adult... but now I can finish watching. 🤦🏽♀️ Japanese textiles?! My other weakness... 😩 I don't even like pink, but that is beautiful!
