    I had a house about an hour away from Mont Saint-Michel. We used to visit it regularly. I love the place. Went there on a school trip in the early 70’s and have been back many times since. My advice to anyone wanting to visit is either to get there very early in the morning or go there just before sunset. Most other tourists have gone by then. Also early spring and late autumn are fantastic times to visit.
    Loved your video 👏

    We live in Winter Garden and were just in France 2 weeks ago. We did Étretat, Mont St Michel, Versailles, Disneyland Paris and other Paris sites. It was great we walked over 90 miles during our 9 day trip. Have a great rest of your trip. If you go to Versailles take the time and walk all the gardens, the hidden fountains are amazing to see.

      Hey fellow Floridians! That sounds like an incredible trip. And 90 miles... that's impressive! We've absolutely loved exploring Mont St Michel and Paris. Thanks for the tip about the hidden fountains at Versailles; we'll definitely make time for that. Hope you had a fantastic time!

    Visit Mont St Michel in November or December. No tourist. Sometime alone in the streets or in the abbey. When you will hear the wind blowing outside and feel like a dark age monk. A great experience 😌

    Thank you so much for this superb video!
    I'm lucky enough to live in Brittany, between Rennes and Saint-Malo (so not very far from Mont-Saint-Michel), so I must have been there about ten times, and in my opinion the best time to go is obviously autumn and winter, because yes, the Mont is one of the most visited places in France (even more than the Eiffel Tower) :)
    It's hard to believe it used to be a prison, it's a bit like Alcatraz Island.
    Incidentally, there's a debate going on in France between 2 regions as to who owns the Mont, I'm obviously talking about Brittany and Normandy (while remaining friendly), it's perhaps one of the most popular debates in France (much more so than our dear politicians 😂).

    I'm the keeper of tickets in our relationship. It's only because I keep things in the same place every time. My wife puts things in random places and forgets where those places are. I'm told it's because she has a lot more to arrange and remember than I do... Probably true...she's amazing in so many other ways. 😊

    Now you'lll have to go to the eerily similar St Michael's Mount in Cornwall, so called because an abbey was set up there by Benedictines from Mont St Michel in the 11th century. There's no wimpy boardwalk at St Michael's Mount though, just a causeway that gets flooded at high tide - if you get caught on the island when the tide comes in you have to wait for the next low tide!

    • @AndrewandMegan
      @AndrewandMegan  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@westminstergreen we definitely have this on our list now! No boardwalk sounds like an adventure. We’ll certainly have to plan ahead.

      Il n'y a là rien "d'étrange" ils sont alignés sur une méridienne sacrée avec beaucoup d'autres monuments et lieux sacrés planétaires. Le Mont de l'archange Michel a été construit sur un lieu dédié autrefois a Belenos, d'où à côté l'îlot de Tombelaine. Et ces lieux remontent à plus loin encore.

  • @hilarymiseroy
    @hilarymiseroy 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The opening of the raised causeway has had an effect. It's good for tourism but there are less people that live permanently on the island which is kind of a shame. There used to be a couple of hotels there. I stayed there once and the wind caused weird creaking and moaning noises all night long. I still have a book detailing the history of the place that I bought in the gift shop.

    • @AndrewandMegan
      @AndrewandMegan  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That is a shame to hear. How neat that you stayed there. We saw at least one hotel on the island still open. It looked very charming!

    Interesting(boring🤔)fact, on the tour you walked up and down several spiral staircases, if you notice from the bottom going up they all turn clockwise, in times of old people attacking up would be at a disadvantage(most people being right handed) people defending could use their sword hand better. Loved the barge trip.👍

    • @AndrewandMegan
      @AndrewandMegan  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We love facts like that! We could have easily cancelled all of our EU plans and stayed on the barge for another month or so. Thanks for enjoying our adventures with us.

      We understand that sentiment. The first day we were there was a bit overwhelming. But the rain did slow it all down a bit in the next days. It’s an incredible place so the crowds make sense!
