Such a great song! Shout out to whoever made this video, too. The clips are from the groundbreaking 1927 German silent film Metropolis, directed by the legendary Fritz Lang. It’s a futuristic film set in a time when there are essentially two classes, the overlords and the workers, who are mostly hidden underground. The son of one of the city leaders falls in love with a woman who is a leader among the workers. It’s incredible. Check it out if you haven’t already! Thanks for reacting to this!

Dixie No, but Freddy Mercury was one of the artists who recorded music for the soundtrack of a new version of Metropolis that was produced in 1984. Pat Benatar, Bonnie Tyler, Adam Ant, Loverboy & Billy Squier were among the others. Fans of the film mostly panned it at the time, but it has gained some appreciation since then as an 80s artifact. I really need to watch that version again to see what I think of it now. I saw it in the late 80s and had mixed feelings!

This is a Vietnam War era song. I remember several songs of that time that were written out of the fear of what the world would become. You might want to listen to One Tin Soldier Rides Away or They Paved Paradise to Put up a Parking Lot. I think you would like them both. I believe the movie scenes are from a film called Metropolis. You might recognize the circular lights around the robot's head at the end as ones referenced in a Queen song but they superimposed Freddie's face instead of the woman's. I think it was The Show Must Go On but I'll have to check on that. Peace and health!

At school, you had drills of what to do if the bomb hit, the Cuban Missile Crisis had happened a few years before where the world was at Defcon 4. This song is amazing. I heard this song when I was a teenager back in the 70s and truthfully it kind of scared me. Thinking of so far ahead knowing some of the predictions are happening now. Amazing. No one really knows what the future holds but this song gives you to think......what can become. Scary thoughts.

This is in my top ten favourite songs of my life. The surreal thing is that I was a young woman when it was a hit, and now I am old I see so many of things they sang about are coming to pass. As with the book 1984, it was meant to be fiction, but instead it has become an instruction manual. Incidentally, the footage in the video is from the silent film Metropolis made in 1927. It was a dystopian view of how the maker Fritz Lang and writer Thea von Harbou thought the world would be in 2027. One could argue that Mr Lang was not far wrong! The film is available to view for free on TH-cam. It is a classic everyone should see who has an interest in film history. The film was a century ahead of its time.

The crazy thing is, while "In the Year 2525 (Exordium & Terminus)" came out in 1968 and was properly deemed "futuristic" and "visionary" for its day, Rick Evans actually wrote it several years earlier in the early '60s. It was recorded in Odessa, Texas, in one take, in a studio residing in a cow pasture.

American soldiers killed by the thousands etc...Now your right that song will never, get old.

I love this song. This song was published when I was in the 10th grade. I’m 66 now. At my school we were Sophomores. We talked about this song in English Class. Almost everybody had the same reaction. We all really liked the Song. When it was my turn to share my views of the Song I stood up walk to the head of the class, and all I said was, “ I just Love this Song!” My lyric commentary was usually just 1,2 or 3 word commentaries, but on that day I continued. I love this Song because it gives me the perspective on what our future may be. It’s not definitively saying that this is our future. This song is paving the way for you as a person to literally do your own thinking, about your own future, based on the lyrics of this Song! This Sing has opened Up My Mind to the endless Possibilities of how our Future May Be. Everybody Stood Up in Class that day. The didn’t clap or say anything, they all just Stood Up and watched me walk back to my seat in class. When I sat down the whole class sat down together. And the discussion about the song continued til the end of class! When we walked out of class the teacher called my name. She gestured me to come back into class. She said, “Just for minute” I need to talk to you!” So I really didn’t want to talk to her that was the third day that I was call back into my English Class. So, not positively, but half heartedly, I walked back in. 3 of my friends waited for me. My teacher was so Happy. I said, “ Did I do something wrong?” She said, NO! I’m so Proud of you. Today your grade for the class is A+. I said A+. Is that a grade? I never saw a A+ before? Just A. B, C, or D. Today is A+! Keep up the good work. She said go to you next class. The Year 2525 was my favorite Song. My classmates and I we discussed this song in detail. Everyone call this song the Song Of Many Possibilities...Aloha

DUDE! The video playing with this song is a movie called METROPOLIS!...It's AMAZING! The story is great, the style of the movie is sooo creative and unique and artistic...METROPOLIS was a silent movie made in in the 1920's about the huge difference between the rich elite living in a growing city during The Industrial Revolution and the lower class workers who built the cities and the way in which they each view the world around them...It illustrates how the working class feel pretty much like slaves and machines to the counless hours building a city while the rich live high on the Hog with not really a care in the world...How the rich don't even realize how much blood, Sweat and tears it takes to physically work in such a harsh time as The Industrial Revolution and the striking difference between their two, seperate worlds...A really great story that still rings true today...
In the 1980'S Geiogiao Merouder (I think it was) made a remake that only added some (really effective) sound effects and didn't touch the style or art of the film. They took the movie (including the extra parts that had to be edited out for a proper runtime of a movie) and added songs from famous artist of the time...QUEEN, PAT BENETAR (to name a few)...It's an amazing remake that does justice to the original...
but since you love music, you will love the 1980'S revamping of METROPOLIS!...The original is awesome as well!...METROPOLIS is in my top 10 favorite movies of all time...BOTH versions of METROPOLIS are amazing, have a great story and a unique art style. METROPOLIS is really something else as you can see from this video. 😎😎😎...
This isn't the official music video of course, but it's a great fan edit cause the song and the video go well together...Personal opinion, I like the fan edits of this song with future themes and pictures...but cause of the meaning of the movie, it's a good fit with the song as well...
This song is everything though! 😎😎😎...I've watched allot of lyric videos of this song with futuristic themes and I can't get enough of anything about the future...
even though I know this song is deep and about how if we destroy the earth, what is our future really?...How will we have a future if we don't take care of the hear and now? Great message!
