I bought a 2004 that had been sitting for about 10 years with about a thousand miles on it. So I cleaned it up changed all the fluids cleaned out the carbs and basically had a new bike that was 10 years old. A lot of folks don't like the Katana but I really really enjoyed it. It was a strong runner.
The Katana has ALWAYS been a solid buy. Its fast and smooth. Not as nimble as the gsxr but not designed to be. Its a sporty cross between cruiser and crotchrocket!🙌🏽
My brother in law had a 2001 600 Katana he bought brand new back in 2001. It was his second bike after riding dirt bikes most of his childhood and teenage years. Wish he still had it. He babied that thing so much. Kept a lot of wax on it and was garage kept. Never put a single aftermarket item on it. He got bored with the bike. Said it wasn't fast enough for him. Sold it in 2003 and bought a new Suzuki Hayabusa Special Edition in copper orange. Still has it to this day.
These are decent bikes. Especially because they're so cheap. They have decent power from the original gsxr derived engine. The only "flaw" is they're a tad heavy but once you're moving they dont feel too bad. I've had 2 of these in my life. I recent bought a 2005 Kat 750 a few months ago and actually sold it after bringing some much needed maintenance over it. Made a profit off it and then picked up a 2015 Ninja 300 for first cheap. Really just wanted a solid commuter with fuel injection.
That's a nice bike. The older Katana's (600's, 750's and 1100's) were some of the nicest looking bikes in my opinion. The fact that there are still so many on the road and in good shape speaks to just how good they were. I have a '88 1100, but something like that 600 would make a terrific bike for my wife. They seem like the seat's pretty low so I think for a lady or a short beginner something like that would be perfect.
I had an 2002 750 Katana red and black edition.. loved that bike. She had a full exhaust system, stage 2 jet kit, and K&N filter. She also had the '03 conversion tail on her as well (didn't like the cone tail light). She was a fast and reliable bike. Had her for 14yrs before I traded her for a '16 GSXR brand new. when I traded her in, she had about 40k miles on her and still ran GREAT!!! These bike get bad a rep for not being a "sport bike" but for being "a cross between/hybrid bike". But honestly they are really fun to ride and do make great starter bikes (aside from the 250's and 300's). Loads of fun and predictability. all in all good all around bikes..
I still have mine goes like shit of a shovel and is reliable as hell. Dont let anybody tell you the 750 Kat is slow!! round 500 Rpm things get very urgent!! great bikes cant kill them.
Im lookin at gettin an 03 750 with only 6.6k miles. It'll be my first bike though ive ridden before. I'm comfortable with a clutch since my first car was a 5spd 97 eclipse. I'd also like to mention im 33 n won't be actin a complete fool. I would like some reassurance though as to if it's a good first bike

They aren’t my favorite bike I love my 636 way more but my katana is fun man I paid 1200 for it and it’s always been reliable so I keep it
Had a 750 Katana and it rode great! Had the same exhaust and carbs jetted was comfortable to ride. I say it's a great starter bike for anyone.

I got a 06 and I love this bike. Not a speed demon, but all around great bike.

I have a 97 katana 750. Love it.
Suzuki used basically the same paint scheme on the 2005 gsxr750 they make the gsx600f look more like the gsxr1300 Hayabusa
