This is some gd vital information! The thought of a bear ,large cat, wild dogs or other is something to consider possibly happening! Imagine driving down the road and you see a man holding a chainsaw with a LEATHERFACE! It’s either you make that serious U-Turn or “Thats yo A Mr. Postman!” 🚴🏾♂️🏃🏽♂️
The bear scenario happened to me back in 2004! My wife and I were visiting Mt. Edith Cavell in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. We were coming down the mountain on a steep, narrow, switchback road. As we came around a switchback curve on our Harley Road King I stopped because there was a huge bear with her 2 cubs downhill from us near the next switchback curve. The bear was sitting right on the road so no way to zoom past and I knew I wouldn’t be able to pull off a u-turn fast enough if the bear came at us. Scary situation! We just sat silent. The bear definitely saw us and eventually the bear and her cubs ran off into the thick forest. I hadn’t thought about that little adventure in ages but you’re absolutely right, sometimes your ability to perform a tight u-turn could save your life…
I'm an msf ridercoach and talk about this all the time during our figure 8 exercise. A number of years ago I came around a bend on a sub 20' country road to see a bear eating out of a garbage can in the middle of the road. Made a quick u-turn and went on with my life.
Robert, so grateful for what you taught me through your generous videos. Been riding since the 1980's over 400,000 miles on America's roads and highways. I'm riding so much better in these past few months thanks to you. My 1997 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500D has no first gear and I can't use neutral, so only 2nd, 3rd, and 4th....trans is sequential. Been riding it like this for years. Slow tight U-turns "I'm the Boss of My Motorcycle!" I'm 74 years old. Ever grateful. God Bless!
I actually turned on my bike and didn't fall........YEAH FOR ME!!! I was thinking about what you say during my very short ride. Thank you for your channel.
I think the biggest fear these riders have is dropping there valuable bike and damaging it,like you say, it,s a mindset thing. THANKYOU,BEST WISHES TO YOU AND ALL, FROM, AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐❤❤❤❤❤🙂🙂🙂😉😉😉
I am always an 18' _hero_ on the practice area. But out in the real world, on an 18' wide road I can at times fall apart like a cheap suit ! It's about "state of mind". Failure gets into my head... failure of going off the pavement, failure of hitting objects etc. Looking at what I don't want to hit is a recipe for failure.
Thank you for explaining in detail. My neck and leaning is my issue, my neck feels tense. You made it easier to understand. Gonna try it!! Peace from Texas "WindSister".👍🏍 Thank you, gonna rewind & practice!
Making a proper U turn is my biggest deficiency in riding. I am the guy that goes half way then backs up and then proceeds. Not only is it embarrassing, it can be dangerous. Thanks for another great video; I need to practice!
Great job on the bridge Robert. I do this real time every day. Not that bridge but between a building and large trucks after picking up a little breakfast in the mornings. I could go straight out and around but a make myself do full lock u turns in less space than the bridge just for the practice. I have to be on the mark every time or I will hit a truck and look like a real fool. When I get to work I pull straight up to the building and make a u turn there also in just over 15 feet on my 2017 Road King when I park my bike. I make it a point to do these slow speed u turns every time I get on the bike because getting in and out of my yard is tight no matter if I go out the driveway or back yard. I pull out of the shed and have to make a 90 degree turn past the car in 5 feet of space. Going out the back yard I have to make an almost 90 degree turn to get past the camper topper with about four feet of space then another immediate 90 to another 90 into the alley, right, left, left. That one is my, are you moving? I'm going so slow to avoid taking off a fog light. Leaving work the driveway onto the street drops quick enough that I have to go off real slow to avoid banging the exhaust and then make an immediate 90 to my right to stay in my lane. I don't think the street at work is more than 18 feet wide because I am nearly to the center when I drop off the driveway with the rear tire. I have to go full lock and dump the bike to stay in my lane. I like this one because I am at nearly a dead stop coming off the driveway before making the right turn.

Ah, The U-turn. I`m still practicing that, I feel confident in most all my riding, except for the U turn. You make it look so easy. I know I have to turn my head and bars quicker and commit through the turn. Sometimes I get it right, but need more practice. Thank You for all your great videos, they help me so much. Robert: I’m a 3-year rider. I was on a country road last weekend when I had to make a sharp left turn almost a “V” and nearly got hit. It SUCKED. Ruined my day and shook me up. I’m gonna practice u turning in a lot. Thanks for all of your love and inspiration to stayin alive and in control of the bikes.
Thanks mate. God bless you in the name of Jesus Christ 🙏. Making a turn on my sporty is so easy, don't even think twice any more. Thank You for sharing
The ideology of never letting an opportunity to learn pass you by is the best life lesson. I randomly came across your channel and heard you say that. PitBull came out of no where as I was lost on a country rode and decided to make a U turn. Had I not been able to complete the turn I would have been dog meat. That was 20 years ok with me on a sport bike after some years of experience and taking a MSC class. Thankful for that course.

New Pre Loader here!! Really enjoying your channel content. Glad to hear you mention about head and eyes at the end of your video. Funny comment was your head and eyes are in two different timezones.
@@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle Yes sir!! I am looking at some more of your content over the next couple nights. I am in central Florida, so close by for a class when I go V. I. PRELOADER.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. I finally got done some body work in my truck so I am looking forward to join one of the practice sessions in Savannah in the near future. Great video!!
Lt!!! Good to see you out here keeping the knowledge train going! I’m a little bummed this week however. Lost a good friend last week on the 4th in a motorcycle accident. It gave me a moment of pause about riding… but I can’t let that demon in. Keeping it Loaded!!!
I need to take a course because I have nerve damage right leg so the muscles in the foreleg and ankle are functioning at 10% ankle and 30% foreleg. Difficult to properly use rear brake. I refuse to get a trike!!! I’m 70 years old!
Funny you bring up a bear scenario. Last year I was riding the Blue Ridge Mountains and had a black bear bluff charge me while I was on the bike. I didn't have to make a U turn though as he came from the side. I had seen him and stopped a good distance away to observe him. He thought otherwise I guess and charged me. I gave it the gas and took off straight. You are right, those bears are some track stars no doubt! Fast!
Rob my man, this is phenomenal advice. My brother & I had to do this exact thing whn we encountered a bear exiting the woods in Bear Mountain NY. I never knew there were Bears in Bear Mountain, always assumed it was just a name!!
Appreciate bringing up the situation I was in…. I have no idea how tight the u turn was but I gotta measure it… I gotta keep my tape measure in my bag now 😂😂😂🔥 nice video bro
Very interesting video Unfortunately London GB is about to charge any bike rider who leaves their home £12 per day , this is due to ulez charge so anyone with a motorcycle that does not have fuel injection will be charged ... Many people are trying to flog their lovely bikes now . This is a Gov requirement to clean up the air in cities and many places in the UK are bringing in this measure, Oxford will be only electric cars and bikes for instance . Thank you for your teaching , it's helping me after 20 years of riding still today 🙂👍
I practiced on a similar road after watching this video and I was surprised that I couldn't make the turn. I had a bag of excuses about the road conditions before I attempted the U turn. 1 It was on federal property where I work. 2. It's not level....on and on. I think I was going too slow with not trusting my head and eyes. Lastly I didn't want to drop my bike although I eventually ended riding across the rounded curb and gave up because the bear had killed me. I can usually make a slow 18' without any problems. But the curbs and walls like on that bridge just punks me down. Practice, practice, practice. Preload and Keep It Loaded. Thanks Robert for taking the U turn to another level. I got killed by a 🐻 yesterday. Lol.
Thank you as always I love your advice and knowledge you share with us. I am getting better not perfect but better. The very thought of 18 foot uturn makes me queezy but I will get it !
Not sure why MSF would teach you to "duck walk". I took my state road test in NYC on the upper end of Egdecomb Av. I remember being told by my ride along instructor (you had to provide a car for the State examiner to observe) that if my feet touched the ground while in motion , I might fail. Seems like nowadays we're making things easier but not necessarily safer. Just my 2 cents. I always enjoy your content.
When I did my road test back in the day. A food down was a fail without question. The bike I tested on was a 1978 Honda CB 750 four K. The course was so tight I was cone to cone in the 90 degree turns. Never touched a one. The course reminded more of a Motor officer competition course. I passed the road test 100%. I guess all those years on the bicycle and dirt bikes growing up paid off. Never took a training class ever before getting my endorsement.

Hi Robert. Thanks for the video.Very helpfull!, Can you also give us some tips about leaning? What is the best way to lean? Put your body to the opposite side? Or pushing your handlebars? Thanks in advance.
I wanna ask something. While trurning the handlebar what's the best way to lean the bike ? what is the correct technique ? pressing downt to the handlebar ? leaning with body or pressing the foot inside to the peg ? Thank you for these great educational videos.
Where did you get the sliders on your crash bars? I’ve looked them up but haven’t found any of them that have that tapered look like those con you bike. I need a chrome and a black set thanks

Great video Robert! Also glad we could be the examples😂 on a serious note I’ve watched a video over and over and I think where my wheel placement was if I just trusted and believed I could’ve made that turn😊 I will get it next time! On the SS Goldwing😂
in a certain way, maybe I need to let the bike actually fall to learn the absolute limit of the turn. Afraid of scratching it lol. Possibly injuring my left foot. Etc. That said, I know that acutely Listening to the engine sound at exactly 8-10 mph and turning my head as much as I can incrementally while using rear brake taps to keep steady speed is going to work. Still scary.

Good to see you out here keeping the knowledge train going! I’m a little bummed this week however. Lost a good friend last week on the 4th in a motorcycle accident. It gave me a moment of pause about riding… but I can’t let that demon in. Keeping it Loaded!!!
I’m sorry to hear about your loss. Stay safe and may GOD bless you and comfort the friends and family of your friends loved ones

Hey Mike. Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed!👍🏾😊 Also, thank you for the compliment!
Fast!
Looking forward to putting your tips into action!! Thank you again Mr. Robert!

Rob my man, this is phenomenal advice. My brother & I had to do this exact thing whn we encountered a bear exiting the woods in Bear Mountain NY. I never knew there were Bears in Bear Mountain, always assumed it was just a name!!
Thank you very much! 😆
Appreciate bringing up the situation I was in…. I have no idea how tight the u turn was but I gotta measure it… I gotta keep my tape measure in my bag now 😂😂😂🔥 nice video bro
Thank you very much!
Great teaching, Thank You.

Very interesting video
Unfortunately London GB is about to charge any bike rider who leaves their home £12 per day , this is due to ulez charge so anyone with a motorcycle that does not have fuel injection will be charged ...
Thank you very much! It’s my pleasure. 😊
Lol.
Thanks for sharing this! Just keep in mind that you do this with no issue in the parking lot. Focus on everything you do in the parking lot and copy and paste. Nothing changes! That bear won’t get near you. 😆

I believe a foot down during the testing portion is a negative thing. However, leading up to that, they allow you to duck walk the motorcycle.
thank you, all of videos really help this new old rider😂 keep em coming!!!

Hi Robert. Thanks for the video.Very helpfull!, Can you also give us some tips about leaning? What is the best way to lean? Put your body to the opposite side? Or pushing your handlebars? Thanks in advance.
Hi Pete. It’s my pleasure. 😊 Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed!👍🏾😊 I have videos that I discuss those topics.

Could be a bear, could be a loose pit bull, could be a member of the Elite NYPD Highway Patrol Motorcycle Unit.
😂
Good stuff! The power of the mind when comes to riding is amazing!
Thank you very much!
How true, great video!!
Thank you very much! Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed!👍🏾😊
I wanna ask something. While trurning the handlebar what's the best way to lean the bike ? what is the correct technique ? pressing downt to the handlebar ? leaning with body or pressing the foot inside to the peg ? Thank you for these great educational videos.
Look up the motorcycle safety course manual I have never heard of pressing the foot inside.
Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed!👍🏾😊 Watch my video on the fear of leaning your motorcycle.
Idk why but I found the bear scenario hilarious lol

Thanks for the info and instructions big Unc 💪🏾 aka Coach
It’s my pleasure. 😊
in a certain way, maybe I need to let the bike actually fall to learn the absolute limit of the turn. Afraid of scratching it lol. Possibly injuring my left foot. Etc. That said, I know that acutely Listening to the engine sound at exactly 8-10 mph and turning my head as much as I can incrementally while using rear brake taps to keep steady speed is going to work. Still scary.
Good job. Funny, I thought about that riding “alligator alley”😊
Thanks
