A lot of these "ambiguous endings" boil down to fans not thinking happy endings are deep and just arguing that the characters have vivid hallucinations to explain living characters actually dying.

That said, I’ve heard an interpretation of Nope from the assumption that OJ’s survival is ambiguous where it would become a movie with strong and consistent theming… whereas in the alternative, it, uh… doesn’t and kinda sucked.
So while I also read it as “OJ lived”, it left it a film I was enormously disappointed by… so I could get why people would wanna believe something else, on that one.

0:50 "Sure, the ending to Christopher Nolan's Inception is ambiguous".
No, it isn't. Everything is explained in the first 30 minutes of the film. If you think the end is ambiguous, you simply did not either understand or paid attention. We don't care about whether or not we see the face of the kids, we don't care about whether or not the top stops spinning. His totem is his ring. He does not wear his ring, he is not in a dream. The spinning top is his wife's totem. It is stated clear as day.

I'm going to take a different stance on the ending of The Whale.
Slightly different, anyway. It's not Charlie dying. It's Charlie thinking "oh, good, now I can die". The feet lifting off the ground signifies how it feels -- like so much weight has been taken off of his soul that he literally feels like he's floating. And the fact that he looks up to the white light, rather than just seeing it in front of him, is because he's not there yet, but he can see it clearly now.
It's not worth thinking too hard about since, one way or another, reconciling with his daughter was the very last thing he did with his life. But the point isn't that he dies right at that very moment -- it's that this is the best he's felt in years and nobody can take that from him.

I'm with Syd Mead on this one, Deckard is absolutely a replicant and almost every character knows it except him. Even if that were true, which I don't believe to be the case, the sequel would make the whole thing invalid as Deckard clearly aged and lived well past the life expectancy of a replicant. The "John Wick is alive!" people, unfortunately, will probably end up being right in the end because the studio has already come out and said they want to continue with the franchise due to the massive box office. Nothing is allowed to end anymore: studios push for sequels and spinoffs for a known IP until it stops making money. John wick 4 was supposed to be the end of the character and Keanu Reaves said as such.

Also, the director says the ONLY way the John Wick movies can end is if John Wick dies. How did 4 end? Yeah. There ya go. So if they revive him and go through all this work to bring him back, he'll just be killed off again. Might as well just keep him dead. For one thing, no hospital has windows that open so that people can leap out to their deaths. Using a dream or hallucination as your twist is an extremely lazy (borderline pathetic) story trope and most talented writers stay well away from it. Sure, David Lynch gets away with it but that’s because most of his movies have that dream/nightmare feeling throughout. Otherwise, only a hack or a litteral child would think that it is s good idea to overturn everything the movie has set up in the final 10 min by saying ”TaDa! It was all a dream!!”. So, if the movie doesn’t clearly tell you that it is a dream or an hallucination it’s pretty safe to assume that it isn’t what’s happening on screen.

Wouldn't the definition of ambiguous mean that any movie that people think is ambiguous is? If people are interpreting it more than one way, whether they are correct or not, then it fits the bill. Also I must be the only person in the world who doesn't care a flying flip if Deckard is a replicant or not. That is the question though. Just because I personally find a thing ambiguous doesn't mean that it is. I mean my view of reality doesn't distort it for the rest of the world. Replicants have so closely mimicked humanity that any difference is a quibble. The whole movie is about humanity's fear that they are going to be replaced. It doesn't matter. Replicants have so closely mimicked humanity that they are one and the same.

If Bruce is still alive there’s no way his morals would allow anyone else take over for him if he’s still capable of fighting crime. Then again there’s not a real lot that’s accurately depicted in the trilogy anyway.

He got so absolutely demolished in the 4th movie, and was barely hanging on a thread when the duel ended. And instead of rushing him into the hospital, they let him sit down and just slowly bleed. Yeah he is dead. Let that man be reunited with his wife on the other side, instead of bringing him back for another go around. Basically the only thing stopping him from being dead, is the greedy studio. Had this film made less money, they authors could have called it an ending there.

That's because, Nexus 1 through 6 model replicants were genetically coded to have a very short lifespan, just like they couldn't have babies either. Rachel and Rick were prototype Nexus 7s. "More human than human". 🤷‍♂️

This is what happens when people, who don't really pay attention or want a movie to end like they think they should, spend too much time "researching" on the interwebs.

For John Wick there's actually more evidence he lives. Remember the doctor who fixes John up in the first film. Where did he ask John to shoot him because the wounds were convincing but not mortal?
