I’d be curious to see how many deer they have shot at and wounded at that distance. At a minimum how many jackasses they inspired to shot at an absurd distance only to wound animals. I hunt and have zero problem with harvesting animals. That distance is crap.

malenurseevans (Chris Evans) To be fair you’d have to break it down by distance. I doubt that’s the case with sub 40 yard yard shots. I’m sure it starts to get stupid after 55 yards. Same thing as a 650 yard shot. It shouldn’t be done.

malenurseevans (Chris Evans) yep, not embarrassed to care about unnecessarily wounding animals by taking jackass shots at them. Not the time to be showing off your skill set. With practice anyone can consistently hit a bullseye at 300 yards. Hell, you have know idea what the wind is doing 650 yards away. Mule deer are my favorite animals and I see no contradiction in that and hunting and eating them. Everyone should have a problem with taking unnecessarily long shots just to show off. It’s a real bad look for people who are on the fence about hunting and who vote. But hey, your entitled to think it’s cool to unnecessarily risk wounding an animal to show off for the cameras.

Brady... I agree with Trent. That's a great buck! I'm starting to agree with you and Dirk. Hunting muleys is quickly becoming an obsession with me. I really didn't start hunting them till 2 years ago when I got a CO archery tag, pretty much to go with my archery cow elk tag. That year, I had a bull rifle tag and saw some dandy bucks. I was pissed I didn't have a tag. Well, last year I went all in on archery elk, then rifle season was all about the muleys and as Trent said "sent him to heaven." Dang right I'm doing the same thing this year and already have it planned... As long as I get a tag. I should. It's not a hard draw. 🙏😁

Technically if they weren't the hunter then orange is not required by not carrying a firearm they weren't hunting. If they were accompanying the hunter as a guide or outfitter then yes they must wear orange. I went through this a couple years ago with a similar situation and was instructed this by the game warden. I wasn't really thrilled with that answer but it is what it is.

Wondering why Brady is single loading his bullets? Does his COAL exceed the X-Bolt rotary magazine accepted length? Or is he worried about damage to bullet tip ramping the bullet into the chamber?

    • @brady_j_miller
      @brady_j_miller 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Jack Dillon I single load since I reloaded these to the maximum length and Browning’s mag box isn’t long enough. This was the first time I’ve had to actually use more rounds. But I do practice grabbing rounds and single feeding at the range.

@@Weatherby406 thank you! If I could take it back, I would love to have done a few things differently. Got a tad closer would always be nice and maybe have a different rangefinder (which I now have changed because of this hunt). The beam divergence in my old rangefinder wasn't that tight because it was a 2012 model. So I believe that is what caused my first shot to go high since I didn't get a correct reading and that was when I was most calm to make the perfect shot. Lessons learned. Up to this point I was one shot only on a bunch of animals and they dropped in their tracks. But I understand people don't see the practice and want to rip me apart on the internet. I can take it.

Guys love your bow hunting vids, especially as we can't hunt with bows here.
    Couple of questions or observations.
Even reloading (I assume) why use a bullet (Berger 215 Hybrid) that the manufactors state are for target shooting?
Could this explain why even after two shots, specificaly the shoulder shot, the animal didn't drop quicker? Are you not getting proper expansion at that range due to lack of energy or bullet construction?
Even with video footage that animal had a very poor visual reaction to the secound shot. I would like to have seen the wound and had a look at the area/ground it went into after being hit. Many gut shots will not leave good sign or blood trail which are very dependent on were the bullet enters or exits.
Not taking a pot shot at the shooter (excuse the pun) but the fact is there where three (3) shots fired, a miss, a gut shot and then the final shot into the shoulder, which should of dropped him pretty quick or at least anchored him within a few yards.
Because you are out there in the media, which I and many others really appreciate, show us more detail in relation to actual point of impact and relative damage on the animals. I have always respected your highs and lows, successes and failures from the bow seasons, bring that here. Show the extent of gut shots, signs, tracking etc etc. This will give people who are not experienced an opportunity to see first hand the realities of hunting when things don't go to plan.
Those who profess to having nothing but clean kills are bluffers or inexperienced. The reality is the longer you do this game the more you see good and bad. We all have bad shots regardless of range or circumstances, I have had my share of them.
As you may gather I won't be a fan of long range hunting, it's not about your abilities or skills, there's far too many variables when hunting in the field. We are fed too many images of hits etc, etc at long range but for every hit there's multitudes of misses. Misses we can live with, wounds we can't. If theres a higher chance of wounding at range then you've feck all chance of a good follow up shot if that animal decides to run. Rifles, scopes, bullets, ballistic info will only get you so much but are not substitutes for good judgement. How many of use can confidently shoot within the ability of the rifle, it may have been built to shoot less then 1MOA, but can the shooter actual achive this in less then ideal situations while out in the field. Even a 1MOA rifle shot effectively is throwing a 6-7 inch groups out at those ranges, plenty enough intrinsic variables to cause errors. Remember good standards require a hunter to group within a 4 inch circle covering the vitals at 100 yards. Most shooters with basic marksmanship skills will do that no bother. Most will shoot bullseye shots at a 1or 2 inch bullseye targets out to 200 yards again no bother. But remove the bullseye and the target completely and replace it with the point of aim on the deers vitals then the story changes and the groups open up.
The debate over long range hunting verses conventional will rage on.
Despite my criticism, please continue your excellent videos as long as you can. We are on lock down over here and normally I would be out on foxes, rabbits and covids, but alas we have a travel ban.
September the 1st ( opening season for deer here) looks a long way off and some of us our doubtful as to wheather we will be able to hunt.

Your ability to get within 650 yards, shows your willing to work harder than most and have true respect for the animal. Great hunters, congrats

Perhaps for one of your videos you should do a good roundtable discussion on "Fair Chase" hunting. Shooting at 3/8 of a mile is anything but 'fair chase.' I hear guys talking of shooting a 'Booner' which is short for Boone and Crockett at over a 1/4 mile away & yet B & C by their definitions would not consider that 'fair chase.' I am from Montana and have hunted for more than 50 years & the longest shot (on antelope) I've ever taken was just over 200 yards. Only my opinion, but shooting a deer at 650 yards is not much to celebrate! Good shooting, yes; Good hunting - no.
