You guys should write a book about how to find areas to hunt deer and elk. I know black tail is different than white tail and mule deer where I live but I know I would be interested put some of your stories in it. My first hunting DVD was 30 days I can’t believe how many years ago. Love the series you guys are putting out.
Good job getting another person involved in hunting. Steve keep that enthusiasm and energy. Also regarding the box of shells comment; kind of like the old days in the White Horse unit for some of my family. I think their motto was” if there is lead in the air, there’s danger there”
I'm ok with this shot because I know the prep these guys put in before the season. Us that shoot a lot and practice at long distance know what we ourselves and our guns are capable of. We shoot more rounds in practice and prep each year than most do in a lifetime congrats guys good shooting wind is so tuff to judge correctly.

Nice video and shows how important it is to know how to read wind and hold for it. I've watched a lot of your videos and I love how you bring God family and friends into your videos. I don't really want to pick on Steve but I've seen him make several bad shots and he got lucky here could have easily been a wounded deer. Practice at long ranges and reading wind through your scope is a lot better than a wind meter at your location. It helps but need to use all your tools. Guys I appreciate you showing this video it was fun to watch, hope you guys continue and continue to learn. Looking forward to your elk videos.
I’ve had a couple bad years! I shoot a lot but i am not perfect. Any body that say’s they are is full of crap! Thought I had the wind but didn’t realize the main draw wind.🤷🏼♂️ I was really comfortable in the gun when I squeezed the trigger.
It looked like the buck was slightly downhill and quartering. The mid body hold was about equal with the head elevation wise, along with a little more wind would be my guess for how that happened, congrats Steve on a nice deer, and you got darn lucky. Also congrats to Eli on his first deer! This was a heck of an episode!
I think the Columbia Blacktail is the most under rated game animal in North America. They can put your body to the test like a sheep hunt. A big one, like the one you shot, is a great trophy.

If he was actually aiming for the head then it would be a great shot. Bottom line he got lucky. Could have just as easily blown the bucks lower jaw off and had him run off and starve to death. I think an example of what not to do here vice something to celebrate.
