Dirk was spitting a lot of rubbish there.... yeah fine, if you take a risky shot and it works out, fine. I understand taking risky shots because you were surprised. but that wasnt their best performance. I grew up being taught that a good hunter is one that can leave his finger straight. and if you take a risky, far off shot like that and you wound the animal (call of "back leg") you deserve some backlash.

Congrats on a great Buck! It's obvious you realize that the first shot at least was not a good choice...running pretty much dead away at 200-300+ yards. Appreciate you all talking a bit about it as a what not to do for the younger watchers.

I do the same thing when sitting in the passenger seat while hunting. Always glassing. Once spotted a mountain lion out of a moving vehicle at 800 yards. So cool!

I think 200 is a little ambitious, looks like 150-160 mainframe buck and I don’t think those extras will get him there. Still a hell of a buck though.
We measured it. 199" Narrow rack with LOTS of points :)

The rush is real! Ive made many skydives, BASE jumped, Paragliding, rock climbing, kayaking, bungee, and the hunting rush is real. The hunting rush easilly compares to a skydive. I may never be able to skydive again, but I will be hunting forever.

Great job!! I had a similar situation. It was the biggest buck I had ever seen and it will be along time before I see another like it. I ended up not shooting because it would not stop. It has haunted me everyday ever since.
U made the right choice. How bad would it haunt u to have wounded it and had it run off and die somewhere unrecovered.

That's so cool how it played out. The first 25 yrs of hunting, every buck I shot was off hand with most bucks running Now a 200 yd shot from a rest gets me shaking. To get a buck of a life time is fantastic.
