Thanks Karl, I cycled it yesterday morning so I'm surprised they got it done as there was so much still to be finished including some road way still to be tarmac-ed, It still a shame that when you cycle now it all in the open no tree cover anymore. keep the videos coming and will have to catch up for a cycle out.
If you have a look at the video I put in the description you will see the landscaping plans. They'll be planting lots of trees and shrubs all over the place.
Well they certainly got cracking on the tarmac in the last few days as I didn't thinkcthey would pull it off. It was lovely to see the autumnal colours on the trees in your drone footage
I wonder what the quality of tarmac is like. If they've had to get this done did they rush it and make it lower quality? I hope that's not the case because the whole lot will have to be done again. The trees look amazing from the air, even in this dull weather!
Im the sad old sod who went down there at 5am this morning to be the first civilian to go over the bridge ! It eventually opened at 5:55am and I was indeed the first and have the video 😁 Sadly it was still pitch black and you couldn't see a thing 😂
Great video. I drove over it at 8.30 on opening day. Very strange as you say, but hopefully with landcaping it will soften up and become familiar in time.
Credit to them, they pulled it out of the bag. Just shows what progress can be made when focus is put on something... (shame more of the HS2 works aren't being run with that sort of focus).
some one else with a drone you has a rival. but so loving the regularupdates to this area i would cycle to gatehouse factorys from little kimble via bishopstone.
Thanks Karl. You have waited a long time for the road to be finished but you will be waiting even longer to see some trains in action , 2030 at best I believe.
The old brick works, was there a dump there at some point? I run past there regularly and when they dug all the ground up, in the field a bit nearer the roundabout, there was masses of broken glass, reflecting in sunlight.
I've done a bit research about that site and it was called Hartwell Depot in the 1990s. The company there was called Full Circle and they did recycling so that could explain what you saw. After that Niall Scaffolding moved in and I believe they were the last company there, unless anyone can tell me more. However, there may well have been an old dump there as it's far from the town. We would have to look at what the fragments of glass are, like bottles for instance which are quite easy to date.
@@gingerwoods616 Presumably they would have had to raise the old road over its whole length to gain the height over the railway so just as easy to build a new one? Plus a temporary road while they did it?
It is blocked at each end, but is accessible from the new road for the retained houses. The 'old' footpath looks like it's being retained too, and joins the northern end of the new road.
Such a shame the bridge parapet is so tall, I'd love to be able to look over at the trains as they go underneath... I suppose it's to stop people jumping/throwing stuff at trains, sad that it's a necessary precaution.
Yes I know what you mean. The parapets are huge. Sadly they will be a magnet for vandals with them being a nice clean cream colour. I wonder how long it will be before someone tags it?
That route is probably the best one. I can go from the town centre right out to Stone on it and it's mostly a smooth ride. The worst one is Wendover Road as that is not maintained - it is so bumpy in places. Better than being on the main road though!
Great video Karl, keep them coming really interesting to see all this take shape, well done
Thanks

Great footage thanks
Thanks for the updates, Karl. Very useful footage, too.
Thanks for watching.
Itz sad too see the old farm has completely gone. Great vlog xx

I was still fast asleep then! Fair play to you :)
Great update. You are the first to hightlight and show the opening. There is still plenty to observe and share.
Cheers. I'm fortunate to have the time to do this at the moment.
Great work Karl.
Thank you Karl. 😊

Cheers. I know it will take a while to blend in a bit. Give it 5 or 10 years.
Great Video thank you Karl

Cheers Karl ! Looks like a good job! Nicer when landscaping is finished 👍🏻😎
I went on it on my bus yesterday and I will everyday now!

Thanks for watching. That drone was operated by the contractors. It was just a dot on the screen but I could see it was a professional drone.

I know, it's a long way off.

Great vid as always. Can I ask that base on the left side with all the cars parked up, is that just a temp base while the work gets carried out?
Thanks for watching, Yes, that compound will be gone when the project is finished.
@@KarlVaughan Thanks, Karl!
With another closure 15-18 nov, i suspect thats when they'll finish the side road access and the pavement.
So why did they not just build the bridge on the old road.
The road would have been out of action for months of they had, I assume?
@@gingerwoods616 Presumably they would have had to raise the old road over its whole length to gain the height over the railway so just as easy to build a new one? Plus a temporary road while they did it?
@@chrisbeck6722 Yes but that is what they did in Bicester for the new East / West line. And you will note they have reduced the speed limit.
Are they keeping it 40mph and dropping the 50mph limit? It was short enough to not be worthwhile and yet cause motorists to expect to be going faster.
I suppose motorists will just have to get used to it. No more charging along that stretch.
What happens to the old road now?

@@KarlVaughan Using the new Piccadilly line trains as a baseline... I bet if you went back there tomorrow they'll have been tagged already
Hope the cyclists stay on the cycleway as will be safer now

Houses lol
Yes, there are two along there. Three including the lodge on the opposite side.
Its seems a colossal waste of money....why are we building it. ?
@jimbo1001-u9q Are you referring to the bridge or HS2 itself?
Because it's needled, it's gods will.
