HS2 Update - Missenden Valley | 2nd Feb 2025
มุมมอง 3.9K7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
I combined my visit to the Missenden Valley with a visit to Small Dean Viaduct which I had been to a couple of days before. I was invited to watch the launch of this huge structure as it passed over the A413 and Chiltern railway line. In this video, I look at the section of HS2 between the North Portal at South Heath to Wendover. If you want to support my channel please consider donating here: ...

In this special video, I was invited along to watch the deck slide of HS2's Small Dean Viaduct at Wendover in Buckinghamshire. The deck slide took four days to complete and I visited the construction site on 31st January. I then came back on 2nd February to see it being pushed into its final position. HS2 Update - Quainton to Calvert | 18th Jan 2025
มุมมอง 6K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
This is my first drone record of this area. Due to the misty conditions, it was challenging to shoot. I wasn't expecting it to be this bad, but at least I managed to get it done. When I got to Calvert Green, the drone had signal issues, so I had to abort that section. However, I got some good footage of the Edgcott Road overbridge and the bat mitigation structure by Sheephouse Wood. CORRECTION:...

Glad to hear that your channel is starting to grow nicely after all your hard work. You always do a great job with your editing and keep us well supplied with HS2 progress videos. I think HS2 will keep you sustained for many more years ahead! When the weather improves a nice bike ride into the Chilterns to spin the drone around the vent shaft head houses would be good. Can I also suggest doing a set of videos following the course of disused railway lines in your area - stitching together several trips into a video following each line? @monkeysausageclub There is an awful going on along this section. Lots of bridges, tunnel portals and a couple of viaducts. As for HS2 itself, its purpose is to free up capacity on the West Coast mainline which will affect other parts of the network. If that line is free of high speed trains then more of the regular trains can run. That is the plan anyway.

I’m not in construction so looking for some informed advice. As an outsider it appears that the construction is massively overcomplex in terms of earthworks and haul roads. I feel that many hours have been expended unnecessarily when faster construction could have been achieved. Genuine open question, I do support the concept of HS2 but fear that the cost will adversely effect future high speed rail in the UK.

Hi Rachel, It's not massively over complex; it's just what is required these days. Haul roads, stockpiles, laydown areas, temporary drainage arrangements, retention dams, temporary access for local residents, and public footpaths are all necessary. The days of an army of men using picks, shovels, and wheelbarrows, (with virtually no ammenities provided) are over. HS2 is a big job, no matter how you look at it.

Imagine how many flights will be taken out of the sky and vehicles off the roads. As CO2 goes HS2 construction is a drop in the ocean compared to just 1 day of road or air traffic. You'll never solve the climate crisis by telling everyone they have to live like the Amish. Because they won't.

@@Michael-61-n3l this is a shaft into which a small 2.4m diameter TBM will be lowered, this TBM will construct an 800m long drain. There is an aquifer here at Coombe Hill and, I believe, that the springs that it feeds will be cut through during the green tunnel construction, this impacts the feed into the canal and Weston Turville reservoir. I'm guessing this drain will ensure that the aquifer is still able to feed the canal and reservoir. There is a close up shot on a recent cuemaster video.

Are you aware they've already incurred numerous fines for multiple breaches of environmental issues? Thousands of trees planted along the route in Warwickshire where the vast majority perished due to lack of aftercare. The pollution of streams, rivers & other waterways with toxic chemicals. The bulldozing of mile upon mile of hedgerows containing nesting birds when they specifically promised to wait until the nesting season was over .. the list goes on. I happen to know that drones are regularly used by HS2 which is why I keep out of the way. That doesn't stop others though but if they want to risk it then that's up to them. That large newly rolled expanse at 2:55 is interesting, quite far from the trackbed in the distance, with what looks like quite extensive planting in between. Some constructive feedback Karl.. The Greatmoor Energy from Waste power station 7:45 is a huge blot on the landscape. Once the HS2 construction works have gone and it is in operation, it’s the power station that will cause the lasting damage to the landscape. Also, I note the comments about the London Brick Company destroying Charndon Wood in the Victorian era. Good to read that it’s been largely reclaimed by lakes and (I assume) eventually the landfill site will be covered over with earth and become green once more.

@peterjohnson1739 Charndon Wood was there well into the 20th century and the site of it is where the landfill is now. Maybe I will do a video about it because there must an interesting story. It would be good to find some photos of the old wood.
