    As a fellow Stokie its nice to see the local area being enjoyed. Next time your up this way hopefully the Black Lion will be open, catch it on a Bank Holiday and they have a cider festival and live music on. Brilliant pub. Love watching your videos Robbie, keep it up and keep pubbing...urm cranking! ;)

    Fantastic to see you on the BBC. I've managed to get all 4 episodes. Was great to see you maintain the feel of your channel on national TV. Love to see an updated walkthrough on naughty lass.

    Sitting in the Chester basin. Watching, listening to the rain. Then up pops the 'ray of light' that is RC. Nice one.
    'P of the W' contender for Chester (and there's a lot) has to be The Albion Inn (cottage pie & a pint! Oh yes)
    Life's too short not go to the pub

    Shame you didn't get to visit the Black Lion pub at Consall Forge. Definitely worth a Pub of the Week award. One of the friendliest pubs I've visited to date...lots of lovely locals. Hopefully you'll get back there sometime. Also, you missed one of the most exciting features of that area - steam trains! Hopefully you'll get to visit/record that at some point in the future.

    8:30 - the video effect and Ralph's accent saying " 'ello!!" made me laugh so much. I'm not ashamed to admit that I went back and watched it over quite a few times. 😂 Quality editing.
    Thank you for being so open about how this lifestyle can be funded. I often wonder how TH-camrs make it. It is so heartening to see someone like you following your passion and making it work.
    Even though it is your dream doesn't mean that there aren't hard times. You keep a really realistic view of things and that's refreshing!! I love watching your videos, authentic and genuine plus some stunning scenery, what more could a girl need ?! 🙏

    From Liz Dennis Nottingham.I’ve been following you for some time, both on TV and recently your vlogs which I found on TH-cam. I am particularly enjoying your visits to Lincoln and Nottingham. Having seen the narrow boats on the Erewash canal years ago. We,(my husband and young son ) used to cycle to Potters Lock and my young so used to love help opening the lock gates. Holidaying on a narrow boat was on my bucket list, sadly unfulfilled. So your vlogs are more than fulfilling my dream . Regards, and thank you!

    Great to see thing's my youth haven't changed too much Rob. I noticed 'LIVING THE DREAM' has been a now universal term for problems. 1st Land Rover's , them lorry drivers, next VW vans (never a dream too unreliable) & now Narrow-boaters using this term! Having just moved onto the later & drive a HGV, had a few VW's in the past driven a plenty of Land Rovers (with the Army/civil), having said that I am glad I moved onto a narrowboat, because the community is friendlier, than the village I lived in for 24 years. Also my mental heath has improved!

    What originally got me interested in Narrowboating was looking on TH-cam for Alton Towers near the town of Alton, Stroke-on-Trent and stumbling upon pesky Narrowboating videos. The land around Alton Towers is really beautiful. Looking on Google Earth and, getting down to Street View level along some of the roads and it's amazing how gorgeous this area is. On the Inland Waterways Association website it looks like restoration of Uttoxeter Canal is underway. This canal runs right alongside the town of Alton and Alton Towers.

    If you ever return to Stoke, do try and visit the history noted Leopard Inn in Burslem. It is considered to be the place where Josiah Wedgwood and James Brindley met to talk about their plans to build the Trent and Mersey canal in 1765! There would be lots to cover as part of the Vlog, but given its relevance to the history of the canal network and why canals were built, it would be a great subject to cover. There is also the Bridgewater canal in Salford which also has its claim as a part of the history of wh we have canals.

    • @RobbieCumming

    Mate, I am binge-watching Canal Boat Diaries this holiday weekend. E1 was beautifully lensed! Just started E2.
    I miss "Pub of the Week" in the episodes, but understand why you couldn't do that delightful part of your journeys on the Beeb. (Watching in the States, via VPN, btw. Keep it on the down-low, eh?)
    UPDATE: In E4, a bit of a "Pub of a Week," at 17:00, so there is that. Thwaites would be happy for the product endorsement on Auntie.

      Try to find it. It's great. God gave me mine. He gave me back my husband who was a drunk. After God healed him from the drink. He's been a wonderful man to grow old with. Going on 29 years of marriage this December 2nd. It's been great that's why I'm high on life. Yes we all had problems, but some choose to the hard way. I choose the easy way by asking God to help me.
      Have a great day Robbie.

Like you, I don't have a car so my main form of transport is train and bus. Actually enjoy the adventure of trying to get somewhere by train and bus and well as being there! Great video. Hopefully we’ll now see more of you, well we will when you’re on the telly! 😁 I love the new titles and photography on this video, you’re always so creative. Lovely sofa it looks really comfortable. Technology has transformed the way we work and the costs linked with office working is pushing and in a London forcing, many employers to consider remote working. Most roles in technology could be done on the canal as long as you had a good connection so business critical monitoring of live systems would be dodgy but development work would be fine. In fact most admin / back office roles could now be done remotely, it’s just one small step further than centralised functions like call centres and HR, there really is no need these days to be sitting in an office. Lots of people classed as non permanent, work on short contracts on day rates in these roles because the flexibility suits both them and the employer. Most creative jobs could be done on the canal and is probably easier for those who prefer to be independent. Maybe speak to an agency and do a video on this. 😁

You have also posted some lovely photos of the marina and I see you’ve had your first frost 😯 To be honest I’m struggling a bit to keep up with my NB TH-cam friends because there are so many fantastic channels now but I will make sure I leave a comment because it is nice to keep in touch.

    I hadn't twigged that I could get all the episodes on iplayer. So I've now watched 'em all. Fantastic cinematography. The style is far gentler (if that's the word) than your TH-cam style. Defo. had a feel of the BBC about it; lovely. I have to ask wrt the scene where you're going through Froghall Tunnel; that wasn't the balanced flue of your gas water heater you were crowbaring off was it? Y' might want someone to check it out if it was.

    The BBC gig seems to have added a few new wrinkles and polish to your, already considerable, skill set. Great job, and congratulations on actually getting into Froghall Basin through that incredibly small tunnel!

    G'day Robbie. I am catching up with your Vlogs. Looking at ones I had missed. This is the first time I heard you say your age. I did not think you are 37. You look so much younger. It must be the Canal life keeps you young.

    This was a really enjoyable video, and well done. Obviously you have the advantage of having done 'professions' work. I get a kick out of your boat's engine sound - one of the older types with a put-n-clank noise as it races along (at 3 mph)... 😊

    I gather you can’t mention ‘Pub of the Week’, two episodes in and you haven’t mentioned Crank it or mention Naughty Lass - just my boat. But I have smiled when odd snatches of music are so definitely what you would use. Awesome so far.

    Great video rob we started living the dream 5 months ago . Afew more nightmares than anticipated but still live so all good . Any advice on tackling the river aire from ferry bridge to leeds . Can't wait for your next instalment ,lovely looking interior on your boat warming up a drab November afternoon .

      @RobbieCumming  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! From Ferrybridge to Leeds would be upstream if I remember right but I would just say CRANK IT and ask local boaters/CRt/keep an eye on the river levels and don’t go out in it if the flow is strong!

    Hi Robbie, Nice to have an insight into what has been happening over the last few months. Was wondering......with you constantly on the move, how do you go about ordering items and getting them delivered? All the best mate. Nigel👍

    • @RobbieCumming
      @RobbieCumming  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hiya Nigel cheers yeah it’s tricky but you can order from Amazon to those lockers/pickup points (usually in a convenience shop), have leytters addressed to a local post office (by marking it ‘Post Restante’) or even order from ebay and collect from Argos. But it all requires careful planning/long stays!

    Hi Robbie. Thought your BBC Series was excellent. It was nice to see that you kept a lot of the style of your vlogs, the only thing really missing was Pub of the Week, however you nearly managed it!. Hope you get a second series, and that you get a longer run (even though this would mean more work!)

    • @RobbieCumming
      @RobbieCumming  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Chas yep although pubs did feature it was actually incredibly hard to do. Filming for the BBC involves asking permission and pubs involve alcohol. So as soon as I mention the beeb suddenly I’m the target for everyone’s grievances!!
