A very old truck and rig mechanic here.I am working on my daughters Tahoe and has the same problems.I retired in 96 and this way above my pay grade.Great job explaining the problem and use of tools.
my sunday morning is casting your videos to my tv (70 inch still clear picture). By the way your "aftermarket Junk" video dealing with remote start came in handy on my cousins 01 ranger. He didn't call me until he had replaced the starter and replaced relay and fuses (none were bad apparently). By the time I came in I followed your steps and used my OTC test light and found no power to the signal wire on crank. I took the bottom of the dash out and found some aftermarket box wired in series with the signal / starter wire. Since my cousin has no remote start or "silencer" system he didn't' even know anything was installed. I unplugged the box and jumped the red wire to yellow (only two wires) and it started fine. Long story short what a coincidence I say your video a few days before I worked on it. I was just watching some of your older videos. I ended up putting the wiring back to stock. The system was a silencer 6900a which after looking online alot of people have had to take them out lately. Thanks again I will continue to watch your videos as I have for atleast a year. Also I bought the domain southmainautorepairs.com to build you a site with your shop cost services etc. But if you don't need the advertising I could just redirect it to your youtube page. Have a nice day!
I bought a power probe 4 back when they came out because I thought it had some neat features. I think the only thing it’s been used for is applying power or ground.. Nice touch with the flatrate master music 👌🏻
As I'm not a mechanic, it fascinates me how you mechanics get to the heart of problems. I really like watching your process of fixing cars. If you were my mechanic I know I'd be in good hands. Unfortunately I have to use the dealer, as there seem to be no local guys of your caliber near me. Thank you for your videos and sharing your knowledge of cars with us.
Yes,I did find the actual cause of my check engine light in my Chevrolet LS1 V8 powered Holden Commodore,on Wednesday,I was sitting at the service station waiting to use the air line to pump my tyres up. When I started the engine back up,the check engine symbol became switched on (it's on an LCD screen) ,when I got home,I scanned it & got a P0171 code, previously,I got a P0174 code as well,I sort of noticed that the O ring was split & all hard on the fuel filler cap. So, I bought a new cap on Thursday which has fixed the problem, the fuel tank wasn't holding any vacuum & I noticed that the idle speed changed (dropped) momentarily once I bought a new cap & fitted it onto the filler neck. Since my car isn't fitted with a fuel tank pressure sensor no P0442 code is listed for the Chevrolet LS1 engine in Australia since Holden don't use one,all I can go off is the lean codes !
Same body condition as my brother's '02 2500 HD (Duramax) was in 4 years ago. 😞 Gotta love GM - they sure know how to make money! Sell the truck for $40 LARGE (at the time- much HIGHER now), rake in dough on sub-par parts, then 12 years later, it's going to the scrapyard, and people run right back to a GM dealer for another! Amazes me. Great demonstration of why you ALWAYS need to verify a repair! I've had a few lately that have had more than one issue in the same system. Gotta slow down to go fast - take the time and CHECK. 👍 Wish I could've seen the keychain - sounds like my kind of humor. 😁
Just had same problem, replaced vent valve I didn’t retest and bit me in the ass!!!!! Live and learn... cool video , my Snapon smoke machine has more smoke volume....
Steve Mazzarella when I find a bad vent valve or purge valve I typically try to block off the system and smoke test it to verify no more leaks before selling any parts.
You made great use of your Powerprobe Eric! Looks like that truck has more problems than just the engine light! Leaking exhaust, Abs malfunction, lots of rust. Is this going to pass inspection like this?
Ummm NO! It will not pass by state law for several reasons but there is a shop a few miles from mine that let's just say.... everything gets a sticker :) I fix the engine lights because he can not and then they go see him for a sticker.....
Eric, would you mind muting the power probe (or put a piece of tape over the speaker) in future videos? That sound is a bit ear piercing, especially with headphones. Nice video and use of it though.
As a doit yourselfer, it good to see the application of that power probe. Now all I need to do is get a scan tool with command controls, oh boy the wife will just love that purchase. I’ll tell her you endorse the tool through your videos. So you might be getting a nasty gram soon
Thanks for your time and videos learning and saving money still have that po448 I'll figure it out hopefully before emissions is due here in ripoff ct.
Eric, I've got a great suggestion. How about a greatest hits video of the top 10 rusted out POS that have ever been in a SMA video? This pristine, driven by a little old lady only on Sunday, special has got to be included. You could search every junkyard in Arizona and never see anything close to this bad.
A suggestion on new videos would be a clock spring on a 2007-2014 GM full sized truck tahoe or suburban (GMC equivalent). And do the ABS module replacement on 1999-2006 GM truck tahoe or suburban. Thanks for the vids!!!
You mention a missing gas cap as possibly an issue, I'm wondering if my filler neck is causing the same codes. If I fill up all the way, I get a spill back behind the side of the bed, right at the top of the fuel neck and on really hot days, I can definitely smell gas, even though there's none leaking on the ground (probably just vapors). I need to replace my fuel pump anyway and was going to look at repairing/replacing the neck, this might solve my problem!
Hey Eric... Have you done any videos on troubleshooting a keyless entry system?. My 03 Sienna stopped working. AlldataDIY has helped but I'm stumped. Love your channel... Best on the web for great content and entertaining banter. Thanks.
Got the P0449 code and the engine light is not on.Could someone have cut the wire to the engine light or is the problem not severe enough to make the light come on?
I know this video is old, but i checked my truck and it says "P0453 Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/Switch High" but the video says "P0453 FTP sensor high voltage". Is the code different for different vehicles?
Haha Keith said the same thing Tom. That is why we would all die in Russia and Ivan would survive lol. WWTD? Mike. Well he would make a 5 part series how this customer got ripped off and then ban everyone in the comments haha
I have that code, p0440. My gas neck is leaking when I go to filler up! Could that cause my code! The fact that it is leaking. I did look for the fuel neck assembly. GM discontinue that for the 2000 Chevy Tahoe. But I can get it from different places. So again the fact that my fuel neck is leaking when I put gas in it could cause that code?
John Easton In some states in the US that would also be true. I believe Eric has failed cars for rust issues in the frame. Last I knew New Hampshire had the no rust hole in the body rule. In my state of South Carolina they don't care about rust, safety or emissions. Went to an auto parts store trying to take care of a check engine light......because I'm anal. Told the guy at the counter I was trying to fix the check engine light and he asks me if the car ran okay. I tell him yes and he says " then what do you care if the check engine light is on?".😬
That's right eric. You only do what they ask you to do and if they want to do something stupid you can always make them sign a disclaimer. Stupid like driving away with wafer thin rotors or tires with the cord showing. We have to do that over here because we are not really allowed to let them drive away if the car is in an unsafe state.
I have a 2003 s10 4.3 v6 it runs great. If I start it up every 5-6 hours it starts just fine but after its sits 12 hours or so it won't start i smell gas strong and it has spark and the security light comes on I had a 1626 code I have checked from the key switch to the bcm and pcm everything is good is it a stuck injector flooding it . the injectors have never been changed
Could you do these test without the $1,000 scanner nobody here would have, please? I've got a persistent P0452 on my 02 silverado and I've yet to find a video to help me... Especially only having a more basic OBDII scanner and a multimeter.
a hillbilly trick is tickle them with 28 to 30 volts in very small bursts. sometimes they break loose and work for a while. but failure is imminent :))
You always find a way to have me laughing pretty soon. This time it was AT THE ZOOONE. I've actually had to have it done by the NAPA boys but I don't remember why or the code. At the time I thought I needed it and they sure enough did it while I'm thinking how cheesy is this? If my mother could see me now, I'd be disowned.
love your vids. need your help you are in new york . I'm in the great state of Nebraska, football team is not the greatest even with new coach lol. Lost speedometer replaced sending unit on tail shaft of tranny sill no work been told mod behind glove box is problem can you give any insite 1992 chevy c2500 all it has is AC auto tranny 302254 miles can any one help thank you
All the 40 years I've been a wrench I've never heard it called "the money light" love it I'm using it thanks.
A very old truck and rig mechanic here.I am working on my daughters Tahoe and has the same problems.I retired in 96 and this way above my pay grade.Great job explaining the problem and use of tools.
Awe man, I watched part 2 first, then part 1. It's like dividing by 0. I'm all messed up now. Nice job sir.
Every time I watch one of these EVAP videos, it reminds me I -need- want a better scan tool. I think I could figure a problem out, slowly.
That rust makes me want to cry :(. Great work as always Eric.
I just ordered a Power Source ps100 circuit tester and have this code. What perfect timing this video is! Thanks!
Another college course I can attend. Keep at it professor...I learn a lot.
i like these references you come up with, like the money light referring to the check engine light, never gets old. lol
I use his saying there your problem lady
Its good to hear Josh's Uzi in the background.
Eric was getting all excited everytime he started this thing!!!
Chevy thunder baby!

Your videos are very good, I see everyone here from Brazil.
Thanks, 2000 Chevrolet SILVERADO. Activating valve "listen for click" with scan tool is best confirmation valve and circuit is working.
keep making videos on Evap this one was very informative great work Eric O

Influx of videos lately! I'm loving it!
Cuba Rodriguez Eric o. and Ivan from phad are the best. what's your next project?
Great video Eric keep them coming
Just had same problem, replaced vent valve I didn’t retest and bit me in the ass!!!!! Live and learn... cool video , my Snapon smoke machine has more smoke volume....
This one does now that I added more fluid. A LOT MORE!
Steve Mazzarella when I find a bad vent valve or purge valve I typically try to block off the system and smoke test it to verify no more leaks before selling any parts.

Eric, would you mind muting the power probe (or put a piece of tape over the speaker) in future videos? That sound is a bit ear piercing, especially with headphones. Nice video and use of it though.
I had a sticky purge valve and simply injected a little bit of silicone spray. Fixed the issue 20,000 miles ago
As a doit yourselfer, it good to see the application of that power probe. Now all I need to do is get a scan tool with command controls, oh boy the wife will just love that purchase. I’ll tell her you endorse the tool through your videos. So you might be getting a nasty gram soon
Yup... before starting this video my first thought was vent solenoid.
Thanks for your time and videos learning and saving money still have that po448 I'll figure it out hopefully before emissions is due here in ripoff ct.

I love my power probe use it all the time just fixed my canister valve today with it 👍

Great video Eric, y se everyone from México salu2.
It's nice to see that the replacement vent solenoid is "Made in USA"!
excellent video Eric O thanks
“Chevy thunder baby!” 😂
Please keep using the PPIV when possible. Great work!!!
You mention a missing gas cap as possibly an issue, I'm wondering if my filler neck is causing the same codes. Money light lol, that’s a good one!
Uhm, Did you just use a Power Probe? lol Yes, you did! Thanks Dr. O!
Told you guys I was going to try and use it in real life situations :)
helpful video thanks keep up the good work
Hey Eric... Have you done any videos on troubleshooting a keyless entry system?. My 03 Sienna stopped working. AlldataDIY has helped but I'm stumped. Love your channel... Best on the web for great content and entertaining banter. Thanks.
Does that pass inspection in new York with the cab corners and rocker panels gone like that ?
damn, I was hoping the air compressor would start while you were listening for the vent solenoid.
I was trying to think of something cool to say but Tom already made an awesome comment. I'll just say "good work" and move on. :)
Great job
Eric, the zone didn't get that free diagnosis done for him huh?
Great evap video!!! was that Flat rate Master's music playing as you raised the vehicle?
Got the P0449 code and the engine light is not on.Could someone have cut the wire to the engine light or is the problem not severe enough to make the light come on?

What if you used brake cleaner as the fluid in your new smoke machine? Different smell plus another chance to use your favorite product.
Ivan would have cleaned the old one out with some WD-40 and made it work again.
WWTD?????
Haha Keith said the same thing Tom. That is why we would all die in Russia and Ivan would survive lol. WWTD? Mike. Well he would make a 5 part series how this customer got ripped off and then ban everyone in the comments haha
Thanks Eric. Eric what software are you using on your laptop? Thank you!!
At the Zone must have got lucky that place is a JOKE. Another great video Dr.O and as usual keep them coming.
Eric, what type of scanner are you using
Would this cause the fuel to back up while filling the tank with gas? My s10 backs up terribly while fueling up. What could be the cause of this?
Good clicking noise on that one. I'm guessing my 96 with 5.7 has one under the hood. Hasn't gone out yet but I only have 71K original miles.
Rod Palm nice!
What would be a cheap scan tool to access that data and perform those tests? I have a 449 code. I assume it is the solenoid. But want to do the tests.
Good video....good music.
I have that code, p0440. My gas neck is leaking when I go to filler up! Could that cause my code! The fact that it is leaking. I did look for the fuel neck assembly. GM discontinue that for the 2000 Chevy Tahoe. But I can get it from different places. So again the fact that my fuel neck is leaking when I put gas in it could cause that code?
at 16:08 seeing big leak, going to guess the filler neck rusted through, before watching further. :)
I'd love to know how that truck could pass inspection with sills like that. She sounds great though 😎
I can't help but laugh, You have a picture of Scotty Kilmer on your board. 😂😂😂
Ain’t nobody got time to verify repairs! :)
What type of symptoms would the vehicle have??
Always meant to ask, what happened to your left hand pointer finger?
How will that rot box pass inspection,??in UK it would be scraped,
John Easton In some states in the US that would also be true. I believe Eric has failed cars for rust issues in the frame. Last I knew New Hampshire had the no rust hole in the body rule. Id say you care because you are paying the gas. Sometimes the "freedom" goes to peoples heads.
In this case I am hired to fix the SES light. He gets his lick'em stick'em inspections else where...
How can he possibly get a sticker on that thing?...you exceeded the value of it when you plugged the scanner in.
It was the spider injector wasnt it? It would take 30 minutes to start my blazer in the morning until i changed the spider.
Grandma said that's 🚚
One rusty truck (there sonny 🚛
Could you do these test without the $1,000 scanner nobody here would have, please? I've got a persistent P0452 on my 02 silverado and I've yet to find a video to help me... Especially only having a more basic OBDII scanner and a multimeter.
Sweet blues music!
for those of us who doesn"t have a test probe, can I use a test light????
Eric: what's that poster on the wall mean?? "I'm no Rocket Fish"?
One of these days I hope you'll explain why the '06 Mustang GT O2 sensor keeps going bad.
I have the same problem on my 2001 Chevrolet S-10
Gonna make a brisket with that smoke machine? man cannot live on work alone lol
I have a 3 and a 4 but I like the 3 better
I don't know about anyone else, but with headphones on, the BEEP of the power probe is ear piercing!!
a hillbilly trick is tickle them with 28 to 30 volts in very small bursts. sometimes they break loose and work for a while. but failure is imminent :))
Thumbs up!
And if I keep cranking it after 10 min it will start up with the security on. then it's fine after that it will start up until it sits 12 hours or so
Have you ever worked on a Hyundai Equus?
Super video Eric thought about getting on Instagram?
I have, but I can not keep up with what I have now :(
One thing I can't figure out. Why do people bring their vehicle's to you for money light. Only to take it somewhere else for inspection?
You always find a way to have me laughing pretty soon. This time it was AT THE ZOOONE. I've actually had to have it done by the NAPA boys but I don't remember why or the code. At the time I thought I needed it and they sure enough did it while I'm thinking how cheesy is this? If my mother could see me now, I'd be disowned.
Have you ever run into a p0451 code on a Ford F150?
That would fail a UK MoT test with all that rust. It wouldn't fail on the money light though.
Parknest since the new mot regs came in it will
My Citroen Xsara Picasso passed an MoT in 2016 with the money light on. I didn't know that was part of the new regs.
In the U.K. You can just clear the faults, and if the light stops of during the test it passes. Almost a pointless new reg.
Yup I've dealt with m.o.t. many times . Spent much money in repairs to keep it up to specs .
Whats those latex things on your hands? ;)
love your vids. need your help you are in new york . I'm in the great state of Nebraska, football team is not the greatest even with new coach lol. Ok, I’m kind of curious now what was on his key that was so funny? I’m sure you can censor it better with text right? ;)
My only disappointment is that my favorite stars -- Big Nasty and the brake cleaner can -- didn't make an appearance.
Down her in ole Wisconsin if yer engine light is off yer good to go. Rust or no. The wheels may be fallin' off but don't worry 'bout it.
Over here in Michigan, it's not winter without our 'ole rusty Chevrolet's :D
rusted rocker panels📌

tell me what make of truck we're dealing with...
Why do you never work on euro cars?
No
Audi clutch job scarred him for life.

Best answer ever ... 😂
Hey Eric - I'm getting roped into a clutch job on a VW DSG transmission for a buddy's daughter. Wish me luck ... 😳
Only masochists work on European cars.
👍🏻
I’m so glad you didn’t use the Tech2, it’s a tool for GM elitists.
There is a reason why I call my 03 silverado a "RustyRado" LOL wonder if I send the rust bill to the city if they will pay. hummm
Wow that truck was throwing more codes then a russian nuclear submarine! lol
So what is p0452
