I think it's some open G tuning. I don't think it's open a the top two strings are tuned the same and possibly the bottom two. I've played songs in D-A-D-D-D-D but that's usually to get a sort of ringing out sound. And the top strings don't stay in tune for long. The middle strings are where he plays with the middle of the note, so I think those strings are tuned different to the top and bottom which ring the same.

Open A ..I only assume because the way I play it I play the first chrord of chorus as an A and he plays an open strum. But who knows
