    Speaking of Ruby no longer seeing herself as the hero... Didn't she even tell Qrow when they got their huntress licenses in volume 7 that it felt like it didn't mean much anymore? Things were so different by the time they finally got them, that she almost wasn't sure what to feel about it.

    • @PhoenixNight
      @PhoenixNight  ปีที่แล้ว +27

      That is an excellent point. Things have changed so much since the early Volumes and none of team RWBY has really slowed down enough to deal with how they feel about these changes. And now they are going to be forced to.

      I love this idea of forcing team RWBY to be introspective, especially for Ruby herself. She wanted to become a Huntress, then Beacon fell, but she was still fighting Grimm, so the ideal stuck. Then her enemies slowly turned from simple monsters to evil people. This is heavily shown in her weapon choice -- her scythe has no sword function to combat other people's weapons, and she's lost nearly every battle that isn't against Grimm. Now she has to think of what being a Huntress is, is it about fighting monsters, or fighting evil, no matter what form it's in. She's going to have to learn to grow up, leave the child behind, but take the optimistic qualities with her. My theory is that by the end, Ruby will remind Salem of the meaning of life and death, allowing her to be mortal once more -- and it starts with Ruby accepting Penny's death, and finding herself through her trials

    This is my prediction of what the trials are meant for each RWBY team.
    *Ruby Rose:* To discover that being hero is not a blessing, but a huge burden. Dealing with the loss of her mother, confronting that one particular memory that she used to treasure.
    *Yang:* All the adventures she wanted, and lacking any form of direction is terrifying. Maybe dealing with her Raven's lingering warning and she herself is keeping a secret from the team.
    *Blake:* While she confronted her own demons, it's possible that her trial focuses more of her own worth as a person, if she truly candle the new future for the faunus.
    *Weiss:* A name for herself. But now that everything is gone, Atlas, the company itseld and her father legacy, what is there to do? Start from zero. But the question is, where to?

    This video single handedly tripled my hype for volume 9. Up until this point I've seen all this ever after stuff as just disappointing filler, but with the idea of each character going through a trial to help find themselves and the foreshadowing from vol 2. It gets me excited AS HECK!

    You predict Jaune won't be able to face the trial but I thought you were going to say Neo. A possible byproduct of her tunnel vision revenge quest is she's done little to no introspection. Very little reflecting on the choices she made to end up in the Ever After, and the trial would likely require self-reflection, which she may not be able to handle.

    • @spirittail4958
      @spirittail4958 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Personally I hope she'll get out of the tunnel vision because she originally went after cinder and because of cinders threatening switched sides maybe she'll see the error of her ways through this possible self reflection or it'd maybe go completely differently and just maybe move on from Roman but then again you could be right that she might end up being unable to handle it depending on what the self direction will be aiming towards what she needs to do
      1. Move on from Roman she probably won't be able to handle
      2. Realize ruby isn't who she's supposed to be after and maybe learn to be more self sustaining than being someone else's pawn she'll probably be able to handle

    Ruby’s eventual loss of innocence is similar to Jaden Yuki from Yugioh GX.
    •He was hopeful and optimistic in the beginning of the series…
    •He goes to a school to embrace the thing he loves doing (the duels of the DM Cardgame…)
    •He witnesses others that shows how the world is full of people who uses the thing he loves as a tool for their own selfish gain…
    •He witnesses the death of his friends…
    •He completely changes his demeanor and outlook on life by the near end of the series…

    Guys remember This Will Be The Day's second part?
    Your world needs a great defender, your world's in the way of harm
    You want a romantic life, a fairytale that's full of charm
    Beware that the light is fading, beware as the dark returns
    This world's unforgiving, even brilliant lights will cease to burn
    This all seems to be really coming back together and haunting us and team rwby, especially ruby. Seems like she really is going to shed some of the innocent childhood mindset. But the irony or poetic justice I suppose is that despite that she has managed to changed the minds and heart of some crucial people who will be the ultimate heros to vaquish the evil that is Salem. That is how Ruby's simple soul is key to their victory.

    I’d certainly like for them to reflect on how they’ve been doing things and where it’s got them. They basically made it up as they went along and just hoped that things would work out, but they didn’t. It was their failure to cooperate with Ironwood and poor planning overall that led to the destruction of Atlas and Mantle, Penny dying for good, the continued endangerment of civilians by leaving them in a Grimm-infested desert, and Salem being one step closer to her goal. Basically everything Ren said that they didn’t want to admit. I do hope they’re able to come out of this somehow wiser than they were before if they’re really gonna be considered heroes.

    I think something we can’t forget is that, considering this is all but confirmed to be the world from ‘The Girl Who Fell Through The World’, is that Neo has read this story. Like, a lot. It was her favourite book as a child. I think, because of that knowledge, even if it is subconscious, that Neo will know this world and how to interact with it.
    Perhaps even at one point, she learns about Team RWBY’s plan to go to a place that they don’t know how to get to, and she beats them to it for an ambush, because she remembers it from the story. Even if we don’t hear it, I like to think that as Neo experiences each area of the Ever After, her inner monologue is just the story’s descriptions, and that’s what guides her. I think that would be an interesting thing to delve into. Neo as the only one from Remnant who fits in here, and understands how this place works. Maybe even she will get a younger version looking at her, seeing what she has become, and nonverbally gives disappointment or approval.
    Neo has always desired a sense of belonging. Roman gave it to her, and she was so upset that it was gone that she has dedicated her life to avenging his death. But what is her goal afterwards? Maybe that’s Neo’s trial: a vision of her killing Ruby, and she has to decide what is next.
    But that’s just my thoughts 🤷‍♀️

    Maybe Blake's trial will have something to do with Little and her people(the talking mice), winning/earning the trust of those who don't understand who and what she is. Learning more about other people's cultures in the EverAfter to gain a better understanding of them as well.

    Judging from what we saw in the new trailer, I was starting to get worried that Blake and Yang might not get as much private time together to hash out their feelings as we originally assumed. But your ideas about their trial possibly being faced together do make me feel better. I kinda got the impression that the cloud scenes will take place much later in the volume, so they could definitely sync up with Yang facing her own personal conflict, with Blake being there to support her. But who knows, it’s hard to gauge where anything exactly takes place in this volume because of it being so unique and bizarre.

    I mean the Schnee Dust company main HQ in Atlas is gone but it had locations and offices outside of Atlas so it's not completely gone, but it's probably going to have to revert/reform into what it was back when Nicholas Schnee was running things if it's ever going to thrive again.

    Yang's trial I think will be admitting that what she said in volume 2 about "not knowing what tomorrow brings, and that'll be a good thing" really isn't a good thing. Or since the latest volume 9 trailer had Salem's image show up it'll have something to do with Yang's proclamation to Raven in volume 5 about when Salam came for the Relics, Yang would be standing there waiting for her.

    I suspect when their professor -sorry DOCTOR 😉 - asked them in volume 2 but omitted Ruby it wasn't just because Ruby knew why she wanted to be a huntress, in fact I think she took on that burden because everyone ELSE ALREADY expected so much of her (Oz even comments on the burden she's carrying to Oscar in S5 though it was probably to manipulate him into staying). I think he wanted to challenge all of the others, because it remained to be seen whether THEY are ready (or whether any of his students would make it in the world to reach their dream of becoming huntresses and huntsmen) but they don't carry the same burden Ruby has always carried to follow in her mother's footsteps. But I think it was because of Ruby's silver eyes and the legend that those people were warriors that he knew this was why OZ picked her, and the fact that Ruby so clearly took after Summer who stood out for those rare silver eyes and he could tell she was Summer's child and had real potential. (Salem recognised her in Season 7 when she mentioned her mother but didn't recognise Yang as Summer's daughter because no silver eyes and obviously no Summer resemblance). Remember what Raven said about how Oz played favourites with his star students (cause he was always trying to raise a new star team to beat Salem) - he did it with STRQ, he did it with CFVY and then with RWBY. (it's kinda implied with CFVY in their books they were the favourites until they had a team failure on their mission just before the dance, around the time RWBY started rising in prominence and are "coincidentally" suddenly newly favoured by Oz and allowed to go on their chosen mission in S2). It wasn't just Ruby's motivation that made him not ask the question, I think it was Oz's obviously seeing potential in her, because people tend to trust Oz (too much), like Qrow did - he's very much like a Dumbledore, seemingly perfect but with his dark secrets.
    Cause then Ruby remarking that it was "weird" he didn't ask her makes more sense storywise that we're supposed to reflect on it beyond "well her motives are pure I guess I don't have to ask"- since the silver eyes reveal and Oz's backstory and motives and Summer and STRQ's background reveals all happen later.
    I think this season is where all the pressure we've seen on Ruby to follow in Summer's footsteps and always know what to do as leader after all these deaths and failures will start finally causing her to crack hence the question of being able to discard "Ruby Rose like an old coat".

    I think ruby's trial is that she has to discover that she doesn't have to be the hero that it's a hug burden on hero and that it's okay to say you're not okay and ask for help sometimes
    I also still think that ruby hasn't made any bad decisions other than not telling ironwood the truth but other than that I don't think she did but that doesn't change the fact that she failed though

    • @rileyduncan3927
      @rileyduncan3927 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well to be fair she didn’t tell him the whole truth because she didn’t know who to trust, they have been betrayed by Lionheart, lied to by Ozpin, so it makes sense that she was being cautious around Ironwood, because Ironwood is paranoid and has a controlling nature. And unlike Lionheart, Ironwood would go in history being hated by all. So Ruby made the right call being cautious around Ironwood. Ironwood’s paranoia made him easy to for the villains to manipulate. If you still don’t believe me, check out I’mStrange’s channel for their video about Ironwood.

    I agree with your predictions about the trials of each girl and more generally about the purpose of the Ever After.
    What I'm particularly interested in is the origin of the Ever After : who created it ? And when ?
    And I think it was created by the God of Light just after he spoked to Ozma. Remember the GoL said he was willing to give humans a chance to "remake themselves"... What if he purposely created the Ever After to do so ? For only those who need/deserve to really change ?
    And I think the GoL told Ozma at some point about the existence of the Ever After and how Ozma could reach it thanks to its magic.
    This could explain why Ozma sent his four daughters there to save them from Salem (assuming they did not die and why they did not) and also how Ozpin was able to hide the Crown so well (he put it in the Ever After, allegedly again).

  • @zodfanza
    @zodfanza ปีที่แล้ว

    You said they may change who they are but not what they believe but what if that's exactly what changes, the same way growing up means realising that sometimes you can't do everything right, everything you believed in, sometimes you have to choose between two bad options and "wouldn't be able to look the child you once were in the face" (a quote from Night of The Rabbit). They don't wait to be like Oz, but he's been around for.... Millennia? Maybe they're about to realise that he did some of the things he did because he tried everything else and couldn't find a better way because those ways failed which is why he keeps secrets - just like a time traveller can't tell people what they've seen because too much could be affected except with not giving in to despair and drawing Grimm instead of not messing up the timeline.

    The biggest problem with looking at the main girls trials is they’re very different characters since volumes 1-3, and not because of good development I’m sad to say.
    That being said, if this is written properly it could theoretically fix everything, give the girls trials, tribulations and actual motives moving forward towards the Vacuo arc in the future.
    Really looking forward to learning more about Neo. And I agree with your thoughts on Jaune. Having to assist in Penny’s death will absolutely affect Jaunes ability to function properly, he never really delt with Pyrhas loss either, so I wouldn’t be surprised if a vision of Pyrha taunting Jaune, saying he’s not good enough, that he’s just a burden, if he was stronger he couldve stopped what happened to Penny and Pyrha crops up in this volume. Great potential here.

    The idea of Weiss' trial being about family is interesting, but I feel like that can't fully resolve while they are in the Ever After. Despite her insistence that Team RWBY was more like a family to her than her brother and father, she did start growing closer to Whitley briefly in Volume 8. And she absolutely HAS to deal with the death of Jacques. Despite how she may have been willing to write him out of her life, at the end of the day he was still her father. She would have to feel some kind of way about that and wrestle with the conflicting emotions that revelation brings, but she doesn't know about his death and nobody else who fell knew either. There is no way for her to gain this knowledge while they are there.
    It's looking less and less likely that the Ever After is equivalent to the afterlife, so the odds are low that she actually sees Jacques there in some form. But I actually haven't read The Girl Who Fell Through The World, so 🤷‍♂.

    For Ruby remember this is Rooster teeth and as Church in his goodbye said in Red Vs Blue, a hero never gets to know if they actually win that they never get to see that happy ending and does she really want to be like her mother the hero who never got to see the ones she loves ever again.
    I kind of hope that if Yang's trail is on that rope bridge (By the way, in the background of the Blake photo you see a rope line like a bridge) that we hear the voice of Raven and Summer Rose asking Yang if she is going to run away from those she loves like Raven or be with those she loves like Summer.
    As for Blake, I agree she needs to accept her feelings for Yang with maybe Adam appearing and saying you loved me and look how that went, how can you love anyone ever again.
    For Weiss I want her to face down her father's demand to follow her name and title and her grandfather (come on we need Grandpa Schnee aka Santa Claus) asking her to be herself and to put family above title.
    For Jaune well we all know about a red head he can't let go of same goes for Neo for a man in a hat.

      From who's perspective? Pyrrha didn't feel like she needed to be saved. She did what she did to try and save the people she loved. I don't think any version of Pyrrha could ever say something like "You failed to save me." The only time I can see something like that would be if Jaune's mind created a figment of her that ended up being his own self-doubt. But if they do some kind of afterlife scene with Pyrrha's REAL soul, whatever she says will be very different than that.

      Well the trial playing on their self-doubt was kinda what I was hinting at.

    "foreshadowing in volume 2" 💀
    assuming they knew there would be a volume 9 back then

    • @PhoenixNight
      @PhoenixNight  ปีที่แล้ว

      They didn't know there was going to be a Volume 9 but that doesn't matter. When they initially planned out the story, they thought the Atlas Arc was going to be Volume 3, so things obviously change since they couldn't fit as much as they wanted within each Volume. But that doesn't mean that they didn't have the story planned out and it's been mentioned in interviews that they've planned the Ever After since before Volume 1. So yes, this was foreshadowed in Volume 2 lol

    Fact check: Willow’s conversation with Weiss took place in Volume 7, Chapter 8 - not Volume 4. :)
    As far as the trials it’s an interesting idea but I don’t think anyone’s trial will be tied to another character other than the one in question.
    I keep quiet about the Bumblebee ship and let everyone else have their fun because I’m not a fan of how it’s been executed up to this point, and I don’t want to argue about it constantly. But I seriously do think, ship or no ship, that any trial will be individually driven. For Blake it might just be the strength to stay put with her friends when things get difficult. Keep in mind - she hasn’t been in a position where she’s had to make a choice without any backup yet.
    Don’t have much to say about Weiss and Yang at this point. This is all guesswork.
    At the same time, as much as the trailer fleshed out Ruby, we might just be dealing with her. Especially after the… shrinkage. Maybe the others trial is simply how much they trust her?

    Hm, interesting Theory, I could see something like this happen, I would like this to happen.
    Regardless, I really hope Volume 9 turns out well overall, i hope they have made things count with this Volume.
    I will look forward to your next Video.

      @Vox the TV demon I appreciate your dedication and passion for your characters but I've seen you post the same comment asking if people want to hear about your team on multiple videos completely unrelated to OCs for a while.
      Please refrain from interjecting into unrelated conversations to push people to ask about your team.
      The best place to discuss OCs is in the Discord server linked in the description or other Discord servers dedicated to RWBY OCs. You can post the info about your OCs in the proper channels and people can then ask if the are interested.

    The whole bridge scenario with yang I think it's going to be a leap of fate trial for yang we have some talking and yang makes the great leap of fate and made it by falling on Blake and kiss her in the end.

    I feel like 🟨⬛️ are going to have 2 trials together one for Yang as seen before and a love tunnel like from the owl house for Blake so she loosens up her heart chains if they want a 🏳️‍⚧️ relationship or maybe just force her out of the rest of her shell

    What if they have to sacrifice their semblances a la Edward Elric at the end of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
    Semblances are a part of who they are and they have to change who they are
    And it would also pave the way for them to get maiden powers YES I STILL HAVEN'T LET THIS GO, IT'S THE MOST OBVIOUS THING TO DO WITH 4 POWERS AND 4 GIRLS
