It was the first time she fought so confidently since Volume 1 or even her RED trailer. If there's a thing I've been missing from her was that, the confidence of fighting with everything she had without making silly mistakes.

In response to the flashback: We've all reached the age where we come to realize that our parents were imperfect fuck-ups in some form or another. I'm more curious how Ruby will approach or confront Raven if they ever see her again for answers.
Personally I'd like to see ruby confront raven, and yang confront qrow, INDIVIDUALLY. Imagine this, Ruby walks into ravens camp and simply proclaims herself as summers daughter and demand raven tell her everything, and then once she has enough info out of raven she pulls a yang and demands that raven take her to qrow so he can fill in the rest. Maybe yang doesn't know why ruby left and she's trying to get qrow to help find her then the portal shows up and ruby and raven walk out side by side, raven telling qrow what she filled the kids in on, ruby telling yang what raven said, and yang AND ruby demanding the rest from the branwen's
@@raindancejam9466 if you listen to the dialogue qrow has in volume 4 after qrow got poisoned by tyrion, it heavily implies, to me, that qrow not only KNOWS what happened on summers last mission, but he was actually THERE. Especially with the fact of how ravens portals work. Remember, the portals bind to PEOPLE raven has an emotional connection with. They don't bind to places. And let's not forget that raven and summer went through a PORTAL to go wherever it was they were going, which tells me that raven had sent qrow on ahead and she was responsible for picking up summer. It makes me also think that qrow knows more than he let ANYONE know. Yes there was that "summer secret" conversation rwby and qrow had, but how did he know she wasn't coming back? Given the dialogue it seems like thr situation went something like this: 1. Summer goes on her mission 2. Summer dies 3. Qrow and raven barely make it out, raven goes back to her tribe and qrow goes to taiyang 4. Qrow tells tai that his wife is dead and whatever else he can without divulging anything about what the mission was or why she went on it in the first place, only really revealing that he was there and couldn't save her 5. Tai tells the girls just about nothing other than that their mom is dead. Not even revealing that qrow was with her, which would explain the seemingly passive/aggressive behavior Tai had towards qrow at the end of volume 3. He didn't want his brother in laws image in his daughters minds to be messed up. Tai must've felt that it was between him and qrow alone, and thus would explain the coldness he has towards him. I admit, we do need more information about that day, but this is just my own theory as to what happened that day
@@HHLucifer666 This is so ridiculously convoluted. When Summer disappeared, Qrow went looking for her, scoured Remnant top to bottom, then had to break the bad news to Tai. He knows nothing. Also Qrow doesn't lie, like ever. He omits information or changes the subject, but doesn't flat out lie. This means he meant what he said in vol 7 to Ruby: he's got no fucking clue about Summer's fate, and he believes Ozpin doesn't know either. Raven similarly clearly had a heart at one point (flashback shows she isn't nearly the bitch she is now) and likely had other portal connections to people who are dead by the time we see her in vol 5. Good candidates are Ozpin himself, the Spring Maiden, and quite frankly, probably her parent(s) in the Tribe. Just cause she only has a few portals left doesn't mean they're the only portals she's ever had. Tai just didn't want his daughter to run back out the door into danger after putting a target on her back, and he knew Qrow was about to give her the info to do just that. Nobody needs to lie to anybody. Nobody needs to be a bigger hypocrite than Ozpin himself, nobody needs to be running circles around the truth and fucking up their own personal relationships with their family once they find out when the answer is so much simpler than that: Summer plotted a scheme, failed, and died, and the only living person who knows why has spent the last 15 years in the middle of buttfuck nowhere hiding from Salem and the consequences of her own actions. That's it. That's all.
Gotta hand it to the Tree; by letting the Brothers literally play God with no oversight or consequences for their actions, up to and including *planetary-scale genocide,* they have definitely taken the Worst Mom Award from Raven.
You know it's a bit of a running theme with the creators of remnant, that they make mistakes with their first creation because of their core essence. Older god, creation, younger god, destruction, the tree, love.
Well, to me, the Tree as it is can't really do much against them The Tree may have a will of its own, but it still has, just like everything in the everafter; a purpose. the Tree doesn't end your life, it makes you anew, but only at the consent of your decision thus, the tree only creates, it doesnt destroy, as the story tells, Everafter was overgrown, clearly showing the tree cannot destroy by itself, so in its stead it created 2 entities with that purpose Even if the brothers ascended, their ambition for experimentation never faltered and they couldnt be killed, so there wasn't a way for the Tree to shake them out of it, neither could the tree make another entity with the purpose of destroying others to stop the brothers, otherwise it would've made a disruption like the Jabberwalker did. So the tree made a playground where they can be set free, without the Tree breaking its own cycle of balance because it can't, while letting the brothers fulfill their wish without breaking said cycle in the everafter either
It would be funny if Ruby just confronts Salem and is like, “Nah, you were kinda right. The gods suck. Let’s call them back and call them out on their bullshit.”
Jaune not only saved Neo but he also slowed down the Cat long enough for Ruby to join the fight. He's been saving people, thousands infact. An entire city. He's just beating himself up for every person he's unable to protect which is almost worse than anything any villan has done to him.
23:00 The God of Darkness didn't lash out at Humanity for attacking them, he was personally insulted because they attacked him /with magic/. Magic was Darkness's gift to Humanity; an element of chaos and whimsy in the world. For as much as humans feared Darkness, surely they would at least have respect and gratitude for such a generous blessing. To then have everyone who WASN'T Salem literally throw his gift in his face must've been the most stinging betrayal a creator can feel. I don't fault him for how he reacted to such profound disrespect, and based on his sad reaction I don't think Light did either.
Ya, I don't really see the Jabberwocker and humanity attacking the brothers as parallel situations. With the Jabberwocker, it was simply doing what the brothers had created it to do, not that it had chosen to do anything wrong, so it makes sense that the god of darkness didn't want to punish it for that. With humanity following Salem to attack the gods, that was their own choice. They all freely made the decision on their own to listen to Salem, and their own greed and hubris that led them to declare war on the gods, so it makes sense to punish them for it.
Exactly. I hated some people for roasting the gods because they were responsible for what happened to humanity. If you wanna blame someone, blame Salem. She selfishly tried to bring Ozma knowingly it would break the balance that the brothers have tried to maintain. Instead to learning her lesson, she proceeds to lie to humanity that her immortality is what she 'stole' from the gods when in reality, it was her punishment. Then leads everyone to fight the gods, in doing so killing every single humans in Remnant.

I really loved that, upon reentering Remnant and arriving at Vacuo, they saw the kingdom being defended by Vale, Mistral, and Atlas. I thought this was a great nod after everything that Ruby had gone through at the end of vols 8 and the entirety of vol 9, because that short message that Ruby had convinced herself changed nothing... actually changed everything. Remnant is now fighting together to try to protect Vacuo from Salem.

So, if the brothers aren't actually gods, but the tree predated everything and is responsible for giving them their power, does that make the tree the true god of remnant? If the blacksmith is the spirit of the tree, does that mean the blacksmith is the true god of remnant? In that case, that means the god of remnant basically sat Ruby down and gave her therapy.
They are gods, just not the first, it seems. The tree seems to be the first thing to exist in Rwby Verse, then it's very first creations were the gods. This is similar to a lot of mythology where a goddess bares multiple children, who become either greedy or egotistical with their powers. The gods seem to have a similar story to the god Phanes. It was birthed alongside an empty universe (egg) and used the tools at its disposal to separate itself from the egg and terraform and create worlds in the universe. So basically, the gods are the very first living beings to be given the authority of being gods besides the tree itself.
the brothers are gods the same way apollo is a god, he is not only not the first god, and not even the son of the first god, he is technically the great grandkid of gaia and uranus. (uranus-cronus-zeus-apollo) and along with all gods from that pantheon none of them is infallible. they are still all gods. same can be said for say, Loki from the nordic myths or most other gods from polytheistic religions.
Ruby now knows that she doesn't need to be someone else, like the late Summer Rose, or anywhere else. She's fine as herself, and it's her mother's love for her, and that they are fine as they are. Ruby has truly embraced that she, like Simon from Gurren Lagann, and Naruto from the Naruto franchise, doesn't need to be like her own mother, her father, her step-mother Raven, or her uncle Qrow. She's decided to honor, not just her memory, but the memories of those who fought for her, and that even though they died, their spirits will always live on in her heart, and what they fought for is not gone. And so for the first time in her life, Ruby has decided that she will let others remind her that the ones who love them, will never leave them, and she can always find them in her heart. And last of all, she'll never forget her mother's words about how she will always be loved as herself. And now, Ruby finally decided that she is going to let everyone stay by her side, and to always remind her to never forget. As for Neo, now that she knows that Ruby wasn't responsible for Roman's demise, she may come to realize that Salem was the one responsible for his death, after he allowed the dark side of his own pride to take hold of him, which in turn was the catalyst that destroyed him.
Will she come back in RWBY vol10,11,or12 in the episode and I hope neo comes back in RWBY vol10 and I’m just glad that ruby rose got back cresent rose and her mom emblem and I hope Neapolitan gets free from her mental breakdown come back in RWBY vol10
Please don't compare rwby to something like guren lagann or naruto rwby is cool and all but it just can't get anywhere near as good as guren lagann or naruto comparing them is just unfair.
This season was so much heat. Summer’s design, Ruby and her team smacking that cat down, Neo getting to live while getting to undergone her own journey to see who she’ll become, the origins of the brothers, Little’s reincarnation and finally them going to vacuo! I hope season 10 won’t be a long wait but I understand if they need the time for it.
Wasn’t really surprised that Raven knew more about what happened to Summer than what she said. Was nice to see that Summer was still ticked about Raven abandoning Yang with her little comment and bumping into her shoulder.
My guess is Summer wanted to try and finish what Ozpin couldn't, not knowing Salem was a true immortal. Raven and Summer attacked, they found out the harsh truth and something happened and Raven came back alone and now disillusioned with Ozpin for keeping the truth from them.
my guess is that Raven needs to leave due to Ozpin's secret missions and hope she can return to them after completion. But after Summer's encounter, Raven feels betrayed and left Ozpin's faction, maybe she also learns Salem couldn't be defeated. Raven's guilt becomes heavier because she reach out to Summer and took Summer away from the family, thats why I think these are the reason why she couldnt face her daughters
CC is the most tragic villain in RWBY in my opinion - Solely created by the gods to view the Ever After - Abandoned by the Gods for Remnant - Meets Alyx & co and was promised to brought to Remnant - Gets betrayed by Alyx after she had a change of mind - Abandoned once again
I'll admit that while being eaten alive was a bit too much, the cat truly deserved that last scorn. You may have all the baggage of insanity through loneliness in the world, but the moment to force yourself onto someone to hijack their body... that bridge is burnt.
And honestly they weren't really a villain. They were exactly what they were made to be. They were definitely an antagonist, but they weren't a villain.
It is like I always have said and other people cringe at it but I stay by it Despair, can Drive You Insane. And that is just what happened to the CC. The Cat never learned, and the Cat never healed. The actions were unforgiveable because its despair was just that deep. Indeed the Cat was a Tragic villian, with a Alas Poor Villian moment.
There are two little things that I really appreciate in this episode: the first is in relation to the gods and the Jabberwock. The fact is that the brother of creation simply wants to destroy it while the brother of destruction wants to keep it. One could simply say that it is because the Jabberwock annhilate others but I like to think that it is mainly linked to the psychology of the gods: the brother who can create does not attach to his creation because if it falls, he can make another one. While the one who destroys, everything he loses, he loses it forever... It's quite poetic. The second is more a theory (or rather what an extract could bring to it): the famous "Qrow is the real father of Rwby", whose opening sequence seems to prove the opposite with the scene of tenderness between Tai and Summer. Despite everything, I still believe in it because it opens the doors to an interesting prospect: not wanting to raise their children alone, Tai and Summer moved in together. Then one thing led to another, they got closer and closer, to the point of becoming a couple. It's completely silly, but I like the idea.
Agreed, and we have this thread now of Ying and yang throughout the whole story, creator-destroyer. First the two brothers, then Salem and Ruby, we look at ruby and her entire story is about how the two siblings of qrow and raven who are yin considering their semblances are "bringing bad luck to everyone around him" and "can only teleport to people she trusts and doesn't trust easy especially herself that's why she left" and tai and summer are reflections of the God of creation as they are yang (huh. "What are you?") Maybe it's both sisters? And Salem and maybe neo? Repeating on and on since ozpin and his own yin. Anyway, the whole summer plot will probably be her realizing that they are caught in the same story over and over again and attempts to break the loop with qrow who is rwbys real dad but she dies because of his power. Or maybe she's going out to bail him out because he's an alcoholic and he ends up getting her killed by having her weapon break and dies fighting a grim one handed while qrow is on the floor vomiting, unable to help, proving to himself he's unfit to be a father and has a long distance relationship with ruby who know all along because she created her weapon based on summers and qrows weapon. The power of the grey eyes is being able to see where the story is going and make a choice. It ends on something emotional like ruby's real name is Ying or something. Boom, plane landed🛬
the problem with your idea is that the show writers confirmed that yang and Ruby are half siblings they need to share one parent. if we assume Qrow is the parent of Ruby at least then we have 2 scenarios Either Summer is the mother of both, or Qrow is the father of both. scenario 1 is just impossible because we know that Raven is Yangs mother(unless thast a lie but nothing even remotly hints at that) and Scenario 2 is.... throwing some real problems into the mix with Raven being yangs mother
The main reason I can think of to explain why Ruby fared better against the cat than the others - the cat hadn’t seen Ruby fight before. CC watched Blake, Weiss and Yang fight, both in the board game and against the fake Jabberwalker, so CC was more familiar with their fighting styles. Not only did the cat never see Ruby fight before, but they also probably didn’t expect her to attack with so much aggression, considering how timid she’d been acting the rest of the volume.
Plus even though Yang Blake and Weiss are probably better fighting other people/huntsman Ruby is great with the more monster-like opponents as she was swinging her scythe against the Cat like it was Grimm as she's probably the best at killing Grimm whereas with other people you rarely see her do that for various reasons
Also, there's the fact that the Cat had previously only seen Ruby in her traumatized, confused, self-doubting state up to that point in the volume. So not only had the Cat never seen Ruby's physical fighting capabilities, it'd also never seen her with the focus or conviction she showed here.
This was a great episode, Ruby overcoming her despair excepting who she is, the Gods themselves being the first creations of the Ever After, Jaune returning to his younger self with white streaks on his hair and all of Remnant coming to Vacuo for the fight against Salem.
It was funny because the moment we learn of the tree's true function and purpuse in the ever after, I always thought it or she was the far more perfect and patient version of the brother gods. Boy the moment it was revealed the tree was essentially the brother god's god itself it made all the more sense. Also, something tells me that the gods themselves might need a reset too.
When the Blacksmith said "its not where, its when your needed" Her wording was very telling. Its possible they have time traveled because amity would still he on the way to Vacuo and not having a massive cannon on it.
The Summer scene with Raven Certainly Puts a New Light on (and confirms my beliefs about) the lyrics of the song "Sacrifice" from Volume 2. The Opening lines Sound like Raven consoling a dying Summer: "Close your eye now time to sleep, death is never what it seems. Did the things you thought you should, All the things that they said were good" ... Then later when Raven is Telling off Ozpin she mentions "The moon will sadly watch the Roses die, in vain, loss no gain" .. Which to me sounds like she thinks Summer's death was a great loss that resulted in nothing.
One of the things that really hit me was the conclusion of Ruby's ascension. Ruby hearing Summer's voice say "I love you... just the way you are" made her realize that she was enough just the way she is - and upon that decision she completed her ascension. I also thought it was so fitting that upon her ascension her rose sigil was returned to her, as if a new promise was made between Summer and Ruby, almost symbolizing her ascension - that Summer loves her just the way that she is, and that Ruby is enough just the way that she is. It honestly might have been one of the most beautiful moments of the entire series.
I also think....that is also the tree's true intention with her creation and her creation's creation. Sure she will help them become new if they wish it but at the end of the day, I think the tree very much sees beauty in everything. And as someone who can truly see the greater picture, can always see the good in everything that happens despite the odds.
It seems to be the ultimate theme of RWBY, to Be Yourself, and to Learn From Your Mistake. For even if she is angry at her mother she can also see that none was out of selfishness. The symbolic moment of Rubys acension is the Acceptance that she has done what she has done, and she does not need to become someone better or worse. For no one is flawless. And Summer loved her anyway, a wonderful moment.
Rens gonna see a change in Jaune. He lived for decades in the Ever After so he shouldn’t go back to being the kinda goofy Jaune before the fall. It’s kinda crazy to think that Jaune could’ve been close to Qrows age. Another interesting interaction to see, Jaune telling Qrow and Oz that he was the Rusted Knight and that The Girl Who Fell Through The World was actually written by Alyxs brother Lewis. A shame Vol 10 isn’t even green lit yet 😢

There was theory someone commented on Summer Rose’s Wiki page that I think lines up pretty well with the events of her last mission we saw in this episode. Credit for theory goes to Blue.Cheese2 Raven and Summer were partners within team STRQ. After Oz entrusted them with the secret of Salem, the Grimmified witch who commands the creatures of darkness, it leaves the team in disarray. Summer, knowing what her Silver Eyes can do, decides to try and defeat Salem herself without telling anyone "hence it being a "Summer Secret". Raven catches her right before she leaves and tries to get her to not go and possibly die. Summer gives her the optimistic speech (Raven recognizes this tone in Ruby in Volume 5) and convinces her to tag along. They make it to Salem's lair and fight her. The duo manages to actually kill Salem. Temporarily. After seeing the witch resurrect herself, Raven goes into shock. Now in complete fear, she summons a portal to escape. She begs Summer to come with her, but the huntress stands her ground. Raven abandons her. Summer fights Salem more, using her Silver Eyes as a final resort. The attack causes cracks to appear on her skin, but still isn't enough to kill her. Salem eventually apprehended Summer, ready to kill. Summer tells her that she will be stopped, even if she can't be killed, and Salem throws her into the pool of darkness. She later realizes that Summer somehow survived the pool, and starts to experiment on Grimmifying her, eventually leading to Salem experimenting on other Silver Eyed Warriors. This headcanon explains Salem's origins for experiments on Silver Eyed Warriors, Summer's secret mission, Raven's fear of Salem and how she KNOWS she can't be beaten, and how Salem can be injured.
I'd love to see in a later series with RWBY confronting Cinder and maybe Cinder thinks she is about to win and somehow she gets a message "remember me?" and the new Neo appears and runs her thru.
The Brothers did destroy Humanity, but like with the Jabberwalker they recreated Humanity, they have made mistakes but they also seem to believe in second chances, they gave Salem a chance and she chose to squander it. They gave Humanity a second chance. The Brothers aren't perfect but they do seem to have faith in their creations.
While I think they both do, it seem like the youngest, the god of darkness seems to be the kinder and more willing to forgive his creations and let things go, whereas the brother of light is more willing to condemn and reject/destroy the creations that don't meet his standers.
maybe this world were wonderland become when dreamland power mix with the ever-after power made 3 realms by taking the rules of the ever-after. one without the cycle realm of oz/one taking the wonder to the extreme=wonderland/taking the stories to the extreme=fairy-tale realm? the actually every-after few taking wonder-simplified.
I think the reason the brother of destruction didnt want to destroy their creation is rather simple. When they first started to create destruction probably cherish every creation because unlike his brother. He cannot being them back
Once Neo came to terms with Roman's death, I felt really bad for her. I got choked up with Ruby's reunion with Little, now Somewhat. The revelation about the brothers was very surprising. I imagine Winter and Oscar were able to rally the various armies to Vacuo. We'll have to wait till Vol.10 to find out how much time has passed for the Ever After & Vacuo. I was rooting for Ruby when she was kickin' ASS against the Cat, the animation and the choreography was beautiful. I hope we see Neo again, after her ascension. I was even more surprised that Neo voluntarily chose ascension, since she came to terms about Roman's death.
Recently I've learned that aside from the woodcarvings the Blacksmith has on her table, she also has a pink crystal not yet carved. it's not outright stated hence this is purely speculative, but it's possible-if not even the most likely option-that this crystal is Neo. a pink crystal. a crystal that resembles dust... something something "man, born from dust", perhaps?
when you think about it, the jabberwalker is kind of like the salem of ever after, and the cat was (supposed to be at least) somewhat like the ozpin of it as well
To me, the Blacksmith was Alyx ascended version. She wanted to repair the things she broke in the Ever After... The tree saw that and I guess made a kind of hologram out of her becoming the Blacksmith... That's why she had Alyx's dagger
@Daniel Pillette Death (of any kind, except for the Jabberwalker) does not keep one from ascending. Remember all the Paper Pleasers died, and they ascended, Little got killed by Neo and ascended. The only thing that *might* have barred Alyx from ascending is that she wasn't from Everafter, but Ruby's own ascension proves that's not the case. There's no reason to assume that Alyx couldn't or didn't ascend.
more likely to be Juniper, Jaune picks up junipers figure while asking about Alyxs fate, its more likely that Alyx gave the spirit the dagger during her ascension and asked her to give it to Jaune if he ever made it this far
I don't think the brothers were sent out/kicked out of the Ever After, but were given a choice to leave their home world to create a new one where they can be free to experiment without worry over upsetting a pre-established balance.
I love jaunes reaction to his pre puberty voice it was quite funny 😁. Also love the white streak in his hair showing that not everything is lost and how he still has all his memory and experience of the ever after
No one seems to be asking who Raven was portaling to. Keep in mind her semblance requires someone she has bonded with to be on the other end of her portals, so there is a chance she portalled to Qrow, which means he also knows more about Summer than hes told.
I can't help but appreciate that while Summer is obviously a very kind and loving person, she is clearly somewhat pissed at Raven (for obviously reasons) and isn't going to put up with any of her usual attitude. I think that's most clear when she purposefully shoulder checks her as she walks past. I hope that we either get a team STRQ spin-off/prequel or, a novel, or at the very least, more flashbacks to the team in general. There are so many storytelling possibilities for those characters that I hope get utilized

Whatever happened on that mission with Raven and Summer change Raven dramatically to the Raven we know now. If you think about it Raven wants to be as far away as possible from her family yet she has a semblance that can take her straight to them💀On the other hand, Qrow probably would love to be around his family yet he has a semblance that makes him nearly impossible to be around😢 Considering semblance & a persons personality has a connection maybe they had different personalities in their Youth or maybe switched them. Maybe Raven was the lovable one and Qrow the antagonistic one until Summer Died and they kinda switched it because of guilt or something like that. I use to think that Qrow could have been the cause of Summer's death with his Semblance by accident or Raven could have helped her instantly but failed to do so. But since we have the scene with Raven and Summer going on a secret mission Raven could have been part of the reason why she's dead. Maybe she was too stunned to move like Ruby was in EP 8 where the rest of team RWBY and Jaune was fighting the Jabberwalker's and watch Summer die. Raven isn't evil she's just broken.

They had to have been going to either Qrow or Vernal or, possibly but not likely, someone we haven't met yet. Raven doesn't seem to have too many emotional attachments. I hope it's not Qrow because that would mean that he lied to Ruby in volume 7 when she tried to ask him about it. We've never seen Qrow lie to her and I would hate for that to happen now.
@@rwbyab7423 I thought Vernal as well at first, but this flashback takes place at least 10 years prior, going off what Yang said in V2 it’s probably closer to 15. Vernal would’ve been around the same age as Ruby and Yang in the flashback. The only other person I can think of would be the Spring Maiden before Raven

Vernal acted as the spring maiden to cover for Raven who in turn got her powers from the previous spring maiden. Unless there’s a 5th person that Raven is connected, it has to be Qrow who they were going to. Or the 5th person could be the Spring Maiden that decided to join in on their secret mission
I recall somewhere someone saying The Tree was inspired by the Norse myth of Yggdrasil. So essentially The Tree is the temperamental overwhelmed mother trying to keep her two kids in line but failing thus she has no other choice but to send them away. You are correct, the brothers are nothing more than petulant hypocrites that don't learn from their mistakes. As a cat lover, it was brutal watching the Curious Cat get torn apart like that. I was somewhat hoping he'd get a redemption arc but ultimately karma decided to bite back and give him his just desserts. Sad tho he became that way because he felt betrayed by one girl thus he felt he should do the same. Still the scene where Ruby came back and the song included smacked big time. And her friends remembering in that moment why they became a team was just beautiful. At least we are getting more about Summer Rose. Wish it had been done sooner. Hopefully in V10 and we get a full frontal confrontation on all sides Salem included about the events that led to Summers demise. If I am correct, Vacuo may be another Leonardo Lionheart on steroids and the underlying tensions dating back to The Great War may arise anew and not in the good way. Especially for Atlas. I fear for our Scarecrow's mental state.
Ah But we do likely know what Raven did next, Sacrifice the Vol 2 Credit Song talked about someone who died in Vain who's death had no gain, "The Moon will sadly watch the Roses Die" this flashback finally answers the question of the PoV, it's Raven and was likely from when she learned Salem couldn't be killed and she watched Summer die. And we even have another implicit question answered, Raven can only teleport to those she's close to, the Spring Maiden came to her 10 Years ago, while Qrow only knew it was a Summer Mission nothing to do with Ozpin, and Vernal only became involved to be a Decoy, thus This was likely before Raven became the Spring Maiden
My opinion on volume 9, episode 10 (the finale) is that my favorite part was Little (Somewhat) reborn and Neo having a understanding of how she will be able to find her once she gets remade. My Second favorite part was that the curious got eaten by the jabber Walkers (hyena/Scar style “Lion King (1994)”).
I still think that, the blacksmith confirms that Alyx was confirmed to have been Juniper, by the fact Jaune pickup the Juniper statue when asking about her.
I enjoyed how volume 9 of RWBY ended, despite it being rough for Ruby. I am glad that Ruby managed to find herself in spite the hardships that she went through. I am even okay that Ruby is more or less the same person she's always been by the end of volume, at least at the surface. Although, I am curious about what happened with Summer and how Raven was involved. Nice of Jaune to play a role in Neo being freed of the curious cat. Team RWBY defeating the curious cat together was awesome. As bad as the curious cat was, and as justified as Neo was to do what she did, I don't think that the cat deserved the death that it got, being killed by jabberwalker clones and denied ascension. It just further shows that Neo isn't redeemed. Neo letting the tree take her is sad, but I still don't think she's redeemed for the harm she's caused. I was happy to see Little again, even if they came back as Somewhat. They may not remember Ruby, but Somewhat's heart never forgot. It seems that Somewhat and Juniper will be a good team. It was also informative to learn more about the two brothers, how they came from the ever after, and the confirmation that the cat and the jabberwalker were their creations. Much needed information about the two brothers. Nice to see Jaune returned to his normal appearance thanks to Alyx. It was also nice to see how volume 9 on a good note with a bit of hope.
Help me out here: Did they ever tell us how Alyx and Louis ended up on Ever After?? How did they get there? And, where is Alyx now or how did she ascend after being killed by the cat? I guess, in other words, what did Alyx turn into?? Other than leaving part of her soul with the Blacksmith and her knife/weapon??
Most believe that Alyx is either the smith or Juniper either works really as Juniper saved Jaune like Alyx wanted to and now with Little they will be the ones to protect and help the Ever After forever. If she is the smith then she fixes and helps those that lose their ways
She’s dead-dead. Merc’d by a being that can actually kill in the everafter (the cat) but was able to leave a part of her soul behind in the dagger to repair Juane to his former self. As for how they fell through the world that’s still unknown

@Ryujin ruby was able to assend by drinking tea with a leaf from the tree I think it's way safe to say the cat "killing her directly on the tree itself would put Alex exactly where acention happenes would lead to her ascending
I would actually say that the Cat was more dangerous when in Neo's body. What the cat lacked in overall power, he more than made up for it using Neo's Semblance, able to create infinite illusions and copies of itself and just overwhelm them. Even if Ruby came back, Neo's Semblance likely would have actually made it harder for them to land effective hits cause they have no idea what the illusion is and what the real body was. But having been expelled from Neo's body, the Cat was just a single target for them. Far easier to focus their attacks on.
If the volume were to get an short little end credits scene, I like to imagine it would be Somewhat and Juniper trying to find a way to get down The Great Tree.
Many gods in all mythologies do not need divine parantage to still be gods. Aphrodite from the Greek Patheon sometimes either just spontantously emerged from sea foam, or was the product of a castrated Titan's lost bits mixing eith sea foam.
I’d say that the dark brother learned from his mistake. He first doesn’t want to destroy their creation, but later decides to destroy their creation when they start acting up. But they do realize that Salem needed to learn something or her spirit would continue to be a menace somehow. They tried to teach Salem a lesson, not their fault Salem didn’t learn, yet.
I was so so so so so so SOOOOOO happy when the familiar tune of red like roses started. The amount of joy is immeasurable when she started fighting the cat. Now for the info bombs we got, HOLY CRAP!!! Now it makes SOOO much sense why the brothers are the way they are. And the memory of summer, i think raven went along with her and got some severe trauma. Overall, i enjoyed vol 9. It's not perfect, hell the entire series is in no way perfect, but it's enough for me at the end of the day
This season needed another episode between 8 and 9. Something to let the impact of Ruby basically ending herself sink in and maybe either emphasize Neo's inner turmoil a little bit (not everyone read the spinoff story after all), go a little further into Ruby's rebirth, or let the rest of the party sort of absorb what happened and what led them to how things are.
I thought the interesting part about this finale was how the blacksmith help Ruby understand her true purpose and that she forgave herself for all her problems. When she found her inner peace she then proceeded to help her friends defeat the evil cat, and then the biggest reveal was that the tree had created The Brothers Grimm and that they were the ones to create the Ever After in the first place. I also have a theory for the possible volume 10 and that it involves Ruby and her allies being the only ones capable of putting an end to Salem and her Wicked Ways if you noticed how the girls are they represent the four seasons so I won't be surprised if the Creator's decide to give Ruby Weiss Blake and Yang gain the power of spring, summer, fall, and winter or maybe the power of the elements Fire, Air, Water, and Earth.
2:38 One other big honking revelation from this flashback. Yes, we see Summer was working with Raven for her final mission, but Raven isn't the only one. Raven's semblance is very useful for portalling around, but *who is at the other end of that portal?* We've known since volume 5 how Raven's semblance works, and we know she can only make portals to the specific people she's bonded with. This portal obviously wasn't going to Tai or Yang, so there's only one other option that we know of: Qrow. It's theoretically possible that Raven had another person she could portal to at that time, but that seems unlikely. It seems very likely that Qrow was also involved in Summer's final mission, which in turn means he was lying (or at least concealing something) to Ruby when she asked him about Summer's final mission back in v7e4 (the graduation scene). Note that Qrow's involvement would also explain his delirious (he was suffering from Tyrian's poison at the time) line back in volume 4, "Tai...she's not coming back." You have to figure that at some point, Ruby is going to talk with Yang about what she saw through the tree. Ruby might not know the specifics of Raven's semblance, but Yang definitely does, and when Yang hears the part about Raven making a portal to someone that obviously isn't her or Tai, she's going to make the connection.
I love how Little's new look is obviously inspired by Ruby!! The hair!! The small cap shaped like a maple tree leaf!!! So cute, so touching, and so telling of Little's purpose in the future ❤❤❤❤
A thing to note on the final shot is that the big ship in the middle isnt an atlesian ship, thats the ship seen in the first seasons used in beacon, so it could also mean that we could see characters from Vale like Glynda and Tai. Honestly with the fact that volume 10 isnt greenlit, i can tell that it will be the last volume and they want to have everyone in on this.
I'm gald Jaune has his youth back and I like that they keep some white in his hair so I wonder if it's going to be some new Symbol to the new self. It's actually going to be a good thing he kept his ever after memorial, he might become distant to his team and rwby as well despite coming terms with his failures but I feel we might have got a hint for Jaune to join the the abandoner club like summer and Raven. I can't wait for everyone reaction to Jaune being the Rested knight.
To be fair on the brothers, it seems like they switched perspectives on wanting to destroy/not blame their creation when stuff goes wrong the second time it occured. So they definitely took something from this 1st time around, not enough to stop it but enough for them not to repeat it exactly.
So many surprise revelations! The Brothers were created by the Tree and assisted in the Ever After’s creation. And… Raven was not only *present, but was involved* in Summer Rose’s last mission.
I saw someone have an interesting theory: If the tree precedes the dragons, then it has the power to override whatever work they potentially have done toward their creations... This can include Salem. The tree definitely is gonna be an important aspect for the final phases of this series. Also, it felt like Ruby was able to use the power of her eyes a bit more freely, unless it was just a lighting effect.
I'm really excited to see what comes next in the sense of team RWBY telling everyone about their adventure. I'm very curious as to how Oscar/Ozpin takes it, and how much he knows about the Ever After (or how much he lets slip, wouldn't be Oz if he didn't keep stuff from them)
Forgot to mention this, but if you watch closely, you can see that Ruby's movements when first attacking the cat are quite similar to her first movements from the Red Trailer. Thought that was a really cool detail.
Did anyone else get the implication that the Blacksmith was Alyx reincarnated. Think about it, she explained all about the Brothers creations, but she didnt mention when she was made. Also, theres the fact that Ascension didnt seem to be a thing at that point since the Tree decided to send the Brothers away instead of absorbing them back. Then you have to think back to Alyx’s last wish. SHe wanted to fix all the things that were broken and the people she hurt, ESPECIALLY Jaune. And when showed up at her workshop, she said she was waiting a long time for him. To (ironically) be Deviils Advocate for the Brothers. I dont think theyre INTERFERING with other worlds. I think theyre overall CREATING worlds to make that perfect Balance the Smith mentioned.
This is something that has been on my mind, that I thought you might want to think about too. In Volume 6, Episode 13, Qrow tries to stop Ruby from talking to Cordovin. Ruby turns to him, and he gets this look on his face right before she says "You need to trust me." I have seen it somewhere that he probably reminded of Summer at that moment. I thought that was sweet...until I saw Summer say something very similar to Raven before Raven opened that portal. Is it possible that Qrow saw Summer before she disappeared too?
I think the Blacksmith just sent them forward in time. Remember she/he said the door would take them to "when" they are needed most. after everything we've seen in volume 9 a magic time door doesn't seem out of the question
Maybe its just me, but I'm sitting here wondering why the idea of the cat being unplugged from the Cycle is a thing. After all, it wasnt the real jabberwock that offed the cat, it was Neo. As we saw with Little, even a forced Ascension due to murder still counts as ascension, and.....and.this may be a stretch......but the blacksmith did have a carving of the cat.....who had never ascended before.
This volume was fantastic in so many ways! This finale was definitely hype and had so many beautiful moments. That being said, I feel that this volume would have benefited from a 12 episode season instead of 10. Ruby’s turnaround was maybe a bit rushed but nevertheless hit the correct endpoint. What I think makes this volume meaningful will be what happens in later volumes. I would like to see a conversation between team RWBY and Juane about the events of episode 7 (ideally pretty within the first few episodes of V10). Ruby and Juane can apologize for their breakdowns and WBY can apologize to Ruby for not being there for her or realizing the true extent of her internal suffering.
Weiss didn't seem so surprised, she just goes Ruby! a lot of people believe that Weiss understood Ruby the most as seen with how she speaks about the situation.
Funny thing about Summer's axe triggering that memory is it was startlingly similar to me to a power of Darkness in Destiny called "Deepsight" the ability to see an event/memory, to rebuild something from it or experience an emotion attached to it. Ruby's initial reaction to Summer's actions wasn't something I didn't expect. Looking up to, and living in the shadow of your perfect heroic parent only to find out she really wasn't all that special or incapable of something as vulgar as deception is a hard thing to come to terms with. Especially when Ruby was feeling how she was feeling. But I liked that Summer was somewhat able to provide counsel to Ruby by her last words to her daughter. Making Ruby realise all she needed to be was herself.
I legitimately thought as I watched it, that the team was sent back in time 4 years, to the last time the Vytal festival was held in Vacuo. I think your take is probably right, but omg I was losing my mind man
Imagine everyone talking about their timelines during the reunions then everyone gets increasingly confused. Vacuo Squad: "Wait, wait, wait, wait. Just saw us? But it's been months since the fall of Atlas." Team RWBY + Jaune: looking at each other in confusion, because they thought Jaune was going to be the only one with a messy timeline of events. Vacuo Squad: Now concerned at the silent communication between Team RWBY + Jaune: "Soooo, It's been exactly how long for you guys?" Team RWBY: "Couple of days." Jaune at the same time: "Couple of decades." Vacuo Squad looks from RWBY to Jaune in stunned silence, before starting to focus on Jaune. Jaune, before anyone can ask anything: "No, I will not elaborate." Ruby whispered to Jaune: "You have no idea how to even begin to explain do you?" Jaune whispered back: "Nope. It also hurts my head just trying to sort it out, so I'm going to put off thinking about it for as long as I can get away with it... Plus I'm still getting used to this voice and body again, still feels weird." Team RWBY, nodding in understanding at Jaune's answer. Ruby putting a hand on Jaune's shoulder: "Same. I am still adjusting to my own body. You had a bigger change, take your time." Vacuo Squad becoming increasingly confused and concerned for the 5, especially Ruby and Jaune. They look to WBY for an answer. WBY, noticing the looks: "Nope."
I just watched back the scene with the blacksmith and Alyx's knife makes sounds like it's a butterfly knife? It makes clacking noises that you would hear from a butterfly knife and the blacksmith even opens its hand to catch it like you would in the open position, but it's clearly a straight dagger? And it makes another noise when it is levitated up before being handed to Juane.
This was an outstanding episode and like you said was one of the best finales RWBY has had thus far. Plus I saw four things that I was happy about: 1. OG Ruby returned 2. More insight on Summer and her last mission. Plus more Summer Rose 3. More lore dropped about the Brothers and how the tree is the center of the RWBY universe 4. Just more of The Blacksmith because she was one of my personal favourite characters from this volume as well as the RWBY franchise in general because she's that type a character I love; one surrounded in mysteries yet can act as a guide and give some words of wisdom when needed. I'm convinced that the tree in the Ever After is a reference to the Tree of Ygdrassil and that could lead to possibly more worlds existing in their universe. Only time will tell if we will learn more on what happens with that. This was an outstanding episode as well as a perfect end for this Volume and I can't wait to see what happens in Volume 10. P.s. it was so nice to hear "Red Like Roses" again...its my favourite song from the RWBY franchise.
Holy cow, what a finale! When Ruby emerged from her cacoon and Red Like Roses started playing...I got teary eyed....It was so freaking good. Honestly, this is the best finale of RWBY we've had for awhile. I enjoyed every minute of it as well as getting some more Summer Rose backstory and such. Big Lore drops this volume. I can't wait to rewatch this volume. It's the best one I've seen for awhile.
I’m hoping to see a reunion scene where everyone (Nora, Ren, Oscar, Emerald, Winter, Willow, Whitley, Klein, hopefully Team SSSNN, CFVY, and the three Happy Huntresses) give RWBY and Jaune a hug glomp of a hug just like the one in Lost! AND Ruby and Oscar get a personal hug isn’t interrupted (like how Emerald interrupted their hug in Ultimatum)
SO in the end, the Gods, I can't even call em gods anymore, are even more flawed beings that we already deduced. They truly don't learn from their mistakes but rather blame others for making mistakes. They staked the world on everyone getting along in peace when apparently they can't even keep peace amongst themselves, and punish others when their mistakes come to bite them. They're hypocrites. And I feel this makes them more dangerous than they are. They're not just godly, they're kinda childish in mindset as well
You were right, jaune did save Neo. From the cat, at least. And I'd say he was instrumental in her decision to ascend. (Also not gonna lie, her exchange with Roman almost made me cry the first time I saw it.)
I really enjoyed this finale. Was super happy seeing Ruby finally realizing she’s perfect just the way she is, also Neo accepting her faults and willingly choosing to ascend was beautiful. My favorite part is the new Summer lore, I hope we see Raven in Volume 10 so we can get more info on what happened.
32:05 - I'm hoping they've been gone since 2011, which is when the last episode of Volume 8 aired. That means if Volume 10 were to air right now, Jaune and RWBY would've been gone for 2 years.

Honestly, I thought the scene where Ruby held her own against the cat was a bit weird. But then I realize the cat has watched every one fight but Ruby.
The team was sent foward in time when they are needed most. We don't know how much time has passed, it might be years so they might have had a lot of time to fix the colosseum.
so now that jaune got his younger self back alongside with his 10 years of fighting experinces, i bet he literally became the most strongest member of the party right behind qrow.

It was the first time she fought so confidently since Volume 1 or even her RED trailer. If there's a thing I've been missing from her was that, the confidence of fighting with everything she had without making silly mistakes.

In response to the flashback: We've all reached the age where we come to realize that our parents were imperfect fuck-ups in some form or another. I'm more curious how Ruby will approach or confront Raven if they ever see her again for answers.
Personally I'd like to see ruby confront raven, and yang confront qrow, INDIVIDUALLY. Imagine this, Ruby walks into ravens camp and simply proclaims herself as summers daughter and demand raven tell her everything, and then once she has enough info out of raven she pulls a yang and demands that raven take her to qrow so he can fill in the rest. Maybe yang doesn't know why ruby left and she's trying to get qrow to help find her then the portal shows up and ruby and raven walk out side by side, raven telling qrow what she filled the kids in on, ruby telling yang what raven said, and yang AND ruby demanding the rest from the branwen's

@@raindancejam9466 if you listen to the dialogue qrow has in volume 4 after qrow got poisoned by tyrion, it heavily implies, to me, that qrow not only KNOWS what happened on summers last mission, but he was actually THERE. Especially with the fact of how ravens portals work. Remember, the portals bind to PEOPLE raven has an emotional connection with. They don't bind to places. And let's not forget that raven and summer went through a PORTAL to go wherever it was they were going, which tells me that raven had sent qrow on ahead and she was responsible for picking up summer. It makes me also think that qrow knows more than he let ANYONE know. Yes there was that "summer secret" conversation rwby and qrow had, but how did he know she wasn't coming back? Given the dialogue it seems like thr situation went something like this:
1. Summer goes on her mission
2. Summer dies
3. Qrow and raven barely make it out, raven goes back to her tribe and qrow goes to taiyang
4. Qrow tells tai that his wife is dead and whatever else he can without divulging anything about what the mission was or why she went on it in the first place, only really revealing that he was there and couldn't save her
5. Tai tells the girls just about nothing other than that their mom is dead. Not even revealing that qrow was with her, which would explain the seemingly passive/aggressive behavior Tai had towards qrow at the end of volume 3. He didn't want his brother in laws image in his daughters minds to be messed up. Tai must've felt that it was between him and qrow alone, and thus would explain the coldness he has towards him.
I admit, we do need more information about that day, but this is just my own theory as to what happened that day

@@HHLucifer666 This is so ridiculously convoluted. When Summer disappeared, Qrow went looking for her, scoured Remnant top to bottom, then had to break the bad news to Tai. He knows nothing. Also Qrow doesn't lie, like ever. He omits information or changes the subject, but doesn't flat out lie. This means he meant what he said in vol 7 to Ruby: he's got no fucking clue about Summer's fate, and he believes Ozpin doesn't know either.
Raven similarly clearly had a heart at one point (flashback shows she isn't nearly the bitch she is now) and likely had other portal connections to people who are dead by the time we see her in vol 5. Good candidates are Ozpin himself, the Spring Maiden, and quite frankly, probably her parent(s) in the Tribe. Just cause she only has a few portals left doesn't mean they're the only portals she's ever had.
Tai just didn't want his daughter to run back out the door into danger after putting a target on her back, and he knew Qrow was about to give her the info to do just that.
Nobody needs to lie to anybody. Nobody needs to be a bigger hypocrite than Ozpin himself, nobody needs to be running circles around the truth and fucking up their own personal relationships with their family once they find out when the answer is so much simpler than that: Summer plotted a scheme, failed, and died, and the only living person who knows why has spent the last 15 years in the middle of buttfuck nowhere hiding from Salem and the consequences of her own actions. That's it. That's all.
Gotta hand it to the Tree; by letting the Brothers literally play God with no oversight or consequences for their actions, up to and including *planetary-scale genocide,* they have definitely taken the Worst Mom Award from Raven.
You know it's a bit of a running theme with the creators of remnant, that they make mistakes with their first creation because of their core essence. Older god, creation, younger god, destruction, the tree, love.

The Tree may have a will of its own, but it still has, just like everything in the everafter; a purpose.
the Tree doesn't end your life, it makes you anew, but only at the consent of your decision
thus, the tree only creates, it doesnt destroy, as the story tells, Everafter was overgrown, clearly showing the tree cannot destroy by itself, so in its stead it created 2 entities with that purpose
Even if the brothers ascended, their ambition for experimentation never faltered and they couldnt be killed, so there wasn't a way for the Tree to shake them out of it, neither could the tree make another entity with the purpose of destroying others to stop the brothers, otherwise it would've made a disruption like the Jabberwalker did.
So the tree made a playground where they can be set free, without the Tree breaking its own cycle of balance because it can't, while letting the brothers fulfill their wish without breaking said cycle in the everafter either
To be fair, I don’t think the tree actually CAN do anything about them, since they’re outside the Ever After.
It would be funny if Ruby just confronts Salem and is like, “Nah, you were kinda right. The gods suck. Let’s call them back and call them out on their bullshit.”

Jaune not only saved Neo but he also slowed down the Cat long enough for Ruby to join the fight. He's been saving people, thousands infact. An entire city. He's just beating himself up for every person he's unable to protect which is almost worse than anything any villan has done to him.

Magic was Darkness's gift to Humanity; an element of chaos and whimsy in the world. For as much as humans feared Darkness, surely they would at least have respect and gratitude for such a generous blessing.

Ya, I don't really see the Jabberwocker and humanity attacking the brothers as parallel situations. With the Jabberwocker, it was simply doing what the brothers had created it to do, not that it had chosen to do anything wrong, so it makes sense that the god of darkness didn't want to punish it for that. With humanity following Salem to attack the gods, that was their own choice. They all freely made the decision on their own to listen to Salem, and their own greed and hubris that led them to declare war on the gods, so it makes sense to punish them for it.
Exactly. I hated some people for roasting the gods because they were responsible for what happened to humanity. If you wanna blame someone, blame Salem.
She selfishly tried to bring Ozma knowingly it would break the balance that the brothers have tried to maintain. Instead to learning her lesson, she proceeds to lie to humanity that her immortality is what she 'stole' from the gods when in reality, it was her punishment. Then leads everyone to fight the gods, in doing so killing every single humans in Remnant.

I really loved that, upon reentering Remnant and arriving at Vacuo, they saw the kingdom being defended by Vale, Mistral, and Atlas. I thought this was a great nod after everything that Ruby had gone through at the end of vols 8 and the entirety of vol 9, because that short message that Ruby had convinced herself changed nothing... actually changed everything. Remnant is now fighting together to try to protect Vacuo from Salem.

So, if the brothers aren't actually gods, but the tree predated everything and is responsible for giving them their power, does that make the tree the true god of remnant? If the blacksmith is the spirit of the tree, does that mean the blacksmith is the true god of remnant? In that case, that means the god of remnant basically sat Ruby down and gave her therapy.

They are gods, just not the first, it seems. The tree seems to be the first thing to exist in Rwby Verse, then it's very first creations were the gods. This is similar to a lot of mythology where a goddess bares multiple children, who become either greedy or egotistical with their powers. The gods seem to have a similar story to the god Phanes. It was birthed alongside an empty universe (egg) and used the tools at its disposal to separate itself from the egg and terraform and create worlds in the universe. So basically, the gods are the very first living beings to be given the authority of being gods besides the tree itself.

(uranus-cronus-zeus-apollo) and along with all gods from that pantheon none of them is infallible. they are still all gods. same can be said for say, Loki from the nordic myths or most other gods from polytheistic religions.

Ruby now knows that she doesn't need to be someone else, like the late Summer Rose, or anywhere else. She's fine as herself, and it's her mother's love for her, and that they are fine as they are. Ruby has truly embraced that she, like Simon from Gurren Lagann, and Naruto from the Naruto franchise, doesn't need to be like her own mother, her father, her step-mother Raven, or her uncle Qrow. She's decided to honor, not just her memory, but the memories of those who fought for her, and that even though they died, their spirits will always live on in her heart, and what they fought for is not gone. And so for the first time in her life, Ruby has decided that she will let others remind her that the ones who love them, will never leave them, and she can always find them in her heart. And last of all, she'll never forget her mother's words about how she will always be loved as herself. And now, Ruby finally decided that she is going to let everyone stay by her side, and to always remind her to never forget. As for Neo, now that she knows that Ruby wasn't responsible for Roman's demise, she may come to realize that Salem was the one responsible for his death, after he allowed the dark side of his own pride to take hold of him, which in turn was the catalyst that destroyed him.

Wasn’t really surprised that Raven knew more about what happened to Summer than what she said. Was nice to see that Summer was still ticked about Raven abandoning Yang with her little comment and bumping into her shoulder.

My guess is Summer wanted to try and finish what Ozpin couldn't, not knowing Salem was a true immortal. Raven and Summer attacked, they found out the harsh truth and something happened and Raven came back alone and now disillusioned with Ozpin for keeping the truth from them.
my guess is that Raven needs to leave due to Ozpin's secret missions and hope she can return to them after completion. But after Summer's encounter, Raven feels betrayed and left Ozpin's faction, maybe she also learns Salem couldn't be defeated. Raven's guilt becomes heavier because she reach out to Summer and took Summer away from the family, thats why I think these are the reason why she couldnt face her daughters

The Curious Cat became my favorite character in the entire series. For me it's even sadder the fact that the Cat originally was much more benevolent.

There are two little things that I really appreciate in this episode: the first is in relation to the gods and the Jabberwock. The fact is that the brother of creation simply wants to destroy it while the brother of destruction wants to keep it. One could simply say that it is because the Jabberwock annhilate others but I like to think that it is mainly linked to the psychology of the gods: the brother who can create does not attach to his creation because if it falls, he can make another one. While the one who destroys, everything he loses, he loses it forever... It's quite poetic.
The second is more a theory (or rather what an extract could bring to it): the famous "Qrow is the real father of Rwby", whose opening sequence seems to prove the opposite with the scene of tenderness between Tai and Summer. Despite everything, I still believe in it because it opens the doors to an interesting prospect: not wanting to raise their children alone, Tai and Summer moved in together. Then one thing led to another, they got closer and closer, to the point of becoming a couple. It's completely silly, but I like the idea.
Agreed, and we have this thread now of Ying and yang throughout the whole story, creator-destroyer. First the two brothers, then Salem and Ruby, we look at ruby and her entire story is about how the two siblings of qrow and raven who are yin considering their semblances are "bringing bad luck to everyone around him" and "can only teleport to people she trusts and doesn't trust easy especially herself that's why she left" and tai and summer are reflections of the God of creation as they are yang (huh. "What are you?") Maybe it's both sisters? And Salem and maybe neo? Repeating on and on since ozpin and his own yin. Anyway, the whole summer plot will probably be her realizing that they are caught in the same story over and over again and attempts to break the loop with qrow who is rwbys real dad but she dies because of his power. Or maybe she's going out to bail him out because he's an alcoholic and he ends up getting her killed by having her weapon break and dies fighting a grim one handed while qrow is on the floor vomiting, unable to help, proving to himself he's unfit to be a father and has a long distance relationship with ruby who know all along because she created her weapon based on summers and qrows weapon. The power of the grey eyes is being able to see where the story is going and make a choice. It ends on something emotional like ruby's real name is Ying or something. Boom, plane landed🛬
the problem with your idea is that the show writers confirmed that yang and Ruby are half siblings
they need to share one parent. if we assume Qrow is the parent of Ruby at least then we have 2 scenarios
Either Summer is the mother of both, or Qrow is the father of both. scenario 1 is just impossible because we know that Raven is Yangs mother(unless thast a lie but nothing even remotly hints at that) and Scenario 2 is.... throwing some real problems into the mix with Raven being yangs mother

The main reason I can think of to explain why Ruby fared better against the cat than the others - the cat hadn’t seen Ruby fight before. CC watched Blake, Weiss and Yang fight, both in the board game and against the fake Jabberwalker, so CC was more familiar with their fighting styles. Not only did the cat never see Ruby fight before, but they also probably didn’t expect her to attack with so much aggression, considering how timid she’d been acting the rest of the volume.

Plus even though Yang Blake and Weiss are probably better fighting other people/huntsman
Ruby is great with the more monster-like opponents as she was swinging her scythe against the Cat like it was Grimm as she's probably the best at killing Grimm whereas with other people you rarely see her do that for various reasons
Also, there's the fact that the Cat had previously only seen Ruby in her traumatized, confused, self-doubting state up to that point in the volume. So not only had the Cat never seen Ruby's physical fighting capabilities, it'd also never seen her with the focus or conviction she showed here.
This was a great episode, Ruby overcoming her despair excepting who she is, the Gods themselves being the first creations of the Ever After, Jaune returning to his younger self with white streaks on his hair and all of Remnant coming to Vacuo for the fight against Salem.

It was funny because the moment we learn of the tree's true function and purpuse in the ever after, I always thought it or she was the far more perfect and patient version of the brother gods. Boy the moment it was revealed the tree was essentially the brother god's god itself it made all the more sense. Also, something tells me that the gods themselves might need a reset too.
When the Blacksmith said "its not where, its when your needed" Her wording was very telling. Its possible they have time traveled because amity would still he on the way to Vacuo and not having a massive cannon on it.
The Summer scene with Raven Certainly Puts a New Light on (and confirms my beliefs about) the lyrics of the song "Sacrifice" from Volume 2. The Opening lines Sound like Raven consoling a dying Summer: "Close your eye now time to sleep, death is never what it seems. Did the things you thought you should, All the things that they said were good" ... Then later when Raven is Telling off Ozpin she mentions "The moon will sadly watch the Roses die, in vain, loss no gain" .. Which to me sounds like she thinks Summer's death was a great loss that resulted in nothing.
I theorize after confronting Salem, she learns that Salem cant be destroyed and makes Summer's death seems meaningless, thats when she left Ozpin

I felt bad for the Cat, all the helping it does for the others but it can't help itself.
One of the things that really hit me was the conclusion of Ruby's ascension. Ruby hearing Summer's voice say "I love you... just the way you are" made her realize that she was enough just the way she is - and upon that decision she completed her ascension. I also thought it was so fitting that upon her ascension her rose sigil was returned to her, as if a new promise was made between Summer and Ruby, almost symbolizing her ascension - that Summer loves her just the way that she is, and that Ruby is enough just the way that she is. It honestly might have been one of the most beautiful moments of the entire series.
I also think....that is also the tree's true intention with her creation and her creation's creation. Sure she will help them become new if they wish it but at the end of the day, I think the tree very much sees beauty in everything. And as someone who can truly see the greater picture, can always see the good in everything that happens despite the odds.
It seems to be the ultimate theme of RWBY, to Be Yourself, and to Learn From Your Mistake. For even if she is angry at her mother she can also see that none was out of selfishness. The symbolic moment of Rubys acension is the Acceptance that she has done what she has done, and she does not need to become someone better or worse. For no one is flawless. And Summer loved her anyway, a wonderful moment.
Rens gonna see a change in Jaune. He lived for decades in the Ever After so he shouldn’t go back to being the kinda goofy Jaune before the fall. It’s kinda crazy to think that Jaune could’ve been close to Qrows age. Another interesting interaction to see, Jaune telling Qrow and Oz that he was the Rusted Knight and that The Girl Who Fell Through The World was actually written by Alyxs brother Lewis. A shame Vol 10 isn’t even green lit yet 😢
Depending on when the book was written there's a chance Jaune could meet up with Lewis.

Raven and Summer were partners within team STRQ. After Oz entrusted them with the secret of Salem, the Grimmified witch who commands the creatures of darkness, it leaves the team in disarray.
Summer, knowing what her Silver Eyes can do, decides to try and defeat Salem herself without telling anyone "hence it being a "Summer Secret". Raven catches her right before she leaves and tries to get her to not go and possibly die. Summer gives her the optimistic speech (Raven recognizes this tone in Ruby in Volume 5) and convinces her to tag along. They make it to Salem's lair and fight her.
The duo manages to actually kill Salem. Temporarily. After seeing the witch resurrect herself, Raven goes into shock. Now in complete fear, she summons a portal to escape. She begs Summer to come with her, but the huntress stands her ground. Raven abandons her. Summer fights Salem more, using her Silver Eyes as a final resort. The attack causes cracks to appear on her skin, but still isn't enough to kill her. Salem eventually apprehended Summer, ready to kill. Summer tells her that she will be stopped, even if she can't be killed, and Salem throws her into the pool of darkness. She later realizes that Summer somehow survived the pool, and starts to experiment on Grimmifying her, eventually leading to Salem experimenting on other Silver Eyed Warriors.
This headcanon explains Salem's origins for experiments on Silver Eyed Warriors, Summer's secret mission, Raven's fear of Salem and how she KNOWS she can't be beaten, and how Salem can be injured.
I feel like Raven only became so scared after that mission with Summer.
I'd love to see in a later series with RWBY confronting Cinder and maybe Cinder thinks she is about to win and somehow she gets a message "remember me?" and the new Neo appears and runs her thru.
The Brothers did destroy Humanity, but like with the Jabberwalker they recreated Humanity, they have made mistakes but they also seem to believe in second chances, they gave Salem a chance and she chose to squander it. They gave Humanity a second chance. The Brothers aren't perfect but they do seem to have faith in their creations.
The Brother of Light at least seems to have faith in them.
While I think they both do, it seem like the youngest, the god of darkness seems to be the kinder and more willing to forgive his creations and let things go, whereas the brother of light is more willing to condemn and reject/destroy the creations that don't meet his standers.
Actually they never recreated Humanity. The Brother of Light states to Ozma that Humanity will return of it's own accord.

Not just Atlesean airships, but ships from Vale and Mistral too, everyone is there. Ruby's message worked.
Once Neo came to terms with Roman's death, I felt really bad for her. I got choked up with Ruby's reunion with Little, now Somewhat. The revelation about the brothers was very surprising. I imagine Winter and Oscar were able to rally the various armies to Vacuo. We'll have to wait till Vol.10 to find out how much time has passed for the Ever After & Vacuo. I was rooting for Ruby when she was kickin' ASS against the Cat, the animation and the choreography was beautiful. I hope we see Neo again, after her ascension. I was even more surprised that Neo voluntarily chose ascension, since she came to terms about Roman's death.
Recently I've learned that aside from the woodcarvings the Blacksmith has on her table, she also has a pink crystal not yet carved. it's not outright stated hence this is purely speculative, but it's possible-if not even the most likely option-that this crystal is Neo.

@Daniel Pillette Death (of any kind, except for the Jabberwalker) does not keep one from ascending. Remember all the Paper Pleasers died, and they ascended, Little got killed by Neo and ascended. The only thing that *might* have barred Alyx from ascending is that she wasn't from Everafter, but Ruby's own ascension proves that's not the case. There's no reason to assume that Alyx couldn't or didn't ascend.

I don't think the brothers were sent out/kicked out of the Ever After, but were given a choice to leave their home world to create a new one where they can be free to experiment without worry over upsetting a pre-established balance.
I love jaunes reaction to his pre puberty voice it was quite funny 😁. Also love the white streak in his hair showing that not everything is lost and how he still has all his memory and experience of the ever after
That finale was super emotional for me, and I was surprised from what happened. I thought it'd turn out sooooo different yo 😅
No one seems to be asking who Raven was portaling to. Keep in mind her semblance requires someone she has bonded with to be on the other end of her portals, so there is a chance she portalled to Qrow, which means he also knows more about Summer than hes told.
I can't help but appreciate that while Summer is obviously a very kind and loving person, she is clearly somewhat pissed at Raven (for obviously reasons) and isn't going to put up with any of her usual attitude. I think that's most clear when she purposefully shoulder checks her as she walks past. I hope that we either get a team STRQ spin-off/prequel or, a novel, or at the very least, more flashbacks to the team in general. There are so many storytelling possibilities for those characters that I hope get utilized
Volume 9 was definitely one of the best volumes of the show.

Whatever happened on that mission with Raven and Summer change Raven dramatically to the Raven we know now. If you think about it Raven wants to be as far away as possible from her family yet she has a semblance that can take her straight to them💀On the other hand, Qrow probably would love to be around his family yet he has a semblance that makes him nearly impossible to be around😢 Considering semblance & a persons personality has a connection maybe they had different personalities in their Youth or maybe switched them. Maybe Raven was the lovable one and Qrow the antagonistic one until Summer Died and they kinda switched it because of guilt or something like that. I use to think that Qrow could have been the cause of Summer's death with his Semblance by accident or Raven could have helped her instantly but failed to do so. But since we have the scene with Raven and Summer going on a secret mission Raven could have been part of the reason why she's dead. Maybe she was too stunned to move like Ruby was in EP 8 where the rest of team RWBY and Jaune was fighting the Jabberwalker's and watch Summer die. Raven isn't evil she's just broken.

That was what I was wondering because it's not like Raven could just take them straight to Salem. They had to have been going to either Qrow or Vernal or, possibly but not likely, someone we haven't met yet. Raven doesn't seem to have too many emotional attachments. I hope it's not Qrow because that would mean that he lied to Ruby in volume 7 when she tried to ask him about it. We've never seen Qrow lie to her and I would hate for that to happen now.
@@rwbyab7423 I thought Vernal as well at first, but this flashback takes place at least 10 years prior, going off what Yang said in V2 it’s probably closer to 15. Vernal would’ve been around the same age as Ruby and Yang in the flashback. The only other person I can think of would be the Spring Maiden before Raven

Vernal acted as the spring maiden to cover for Raven who in turn got her powers from the previous spring maiden. Unless there’s a 5th person that Raven is connected, it has to be Qrow who they were going to. Or the 5th person could be the Spring Maiden that decided to join in on their secret mission
I recall somewhere someone saying The Tree was inspired by the Norse myth of Yggdrasil. So essentially The Tree is the temperamental overwhelmed mother trying to keep her two kids in line but failing thus she has no other choice but to send them away. You are correct, the brothers are nothing more than petulant hypocrites that don't learn from their mistakes.
As a cat lover, it was brutal watching the Curious Cat get torn apart like that. I was somewhat hoping he'd get a redemption arc but ultimately karma decided to bite back and give him his just desserts. Sad tho he became that way because he felt betrayed by one girl thus he felt he should do the same.
Still the scene where Ruby came back and the song included smacked big time. And her friends remembering in that moment why they became a team was just beautiful.
At least we are getting more about Summer Rose. Wish it had been done sooner. Hopefully in V10 and we get a full frontal confrontation on all sides Salem included about the events that led to Summers demise.
If I am correct, Vacuo may be another Leonardo Lionheart on steroids and the underlying tensions dating back to The Great War may arise anew and not in the good way. Especially for Atlas. I fear for our Scarecrow's mental state.

And we even have another implicit question answered, Raven can only teleport to those she's close to, the Spring Maiden came to her 10 Years ago, while Qrow only knew it was a Summer Mission nothing to do with Ozpin, and Vernal only became involved to be a Decoy, thus This was likely before Raven became the Spring Maiden
My opinion on volume 9, episode 10 (the finale) is that my favorite part was Little (Somewhat) reborn and Neo having a understanding of how she will be able to find her once she gets remade. My Second favorite part was that the curious got eaten by the jabber Walkers (hyena/Scar style “Lion King (1994)”).
I still think that, the blacksmith confirms that Alyx was confirmed to have been Juniper, by the fact Jaune pickup the Juniper statue when asking about her.
Yes, I felt the same way, CRWBY wanted to hint at it, without saying it. So maybe it isnt 100% the case, but left for the fans to decide.

I enjoyed how volume 9 of RWBY ended, despite it being rough for Ruby. I am glad that Ruby managed to find herself in spite the hardships that she went through. I am even okay that Ruby is more or less the same person she's always been by the end of volume, at least at the surface. Although, I am curious about what happened with Summer and how Raven was involved. Nice of Jaune to play a role in Neo being freed of the curious cat. Team RWBY defeating the curious cat together was awesome. As bad as the curious cat was, and as justified as Neo was to do what she did, I don't think that the cat deserved the death that it got, being killed by jabberwalker clones and denied ascension. It just further shows that Neo isn't redeemed. Neo letting the tree take her is sad, but I still don't think she's redeemed for the harm she's caused. I was happy to see Little again, even if they came back as Somewhat. They may not remember Ruby, but Somewhat's heart never forgot. It seems that Somewhat and Juniper will be a good team. It was also informative to learn more about the two brothers, how they came from the ever after, and the confirmation that the cat and the jabberwalker were their creations. Much needed information about the two brothers. Nice to see Jaune returned to his normal appearance thanks to Alyx. It was also nice to see how volume 9 on a good note with a bit of hope.
Help me out here: Did they ever tell us how Alyx and Louis ended up on Ever After?? How did they get there? And, where is Alyx now or how did she ascend after being killed by the cat? I guess, in other words, what did Alyx turn into?? Other than leaving part of her soul with the Blacksmith and her knife/weapon??
Most believe that Alyx is either the smith or Juniper either works really as Juniper saved Jaune like Alyx wanted to and now with Little they will be the ones to protect and help the Ever After forever. If she is the smith then she fixes and helps those that lose their ways
She’s dead-dead. Merc’d by a being that can actually kill in the everafter (the cat) but was able to leave a part of her soul behind in the dagger to repair Juane to his former self.
As for how they fell through the world that’s still unknown

@Ryujin ruby was able to assend by drinking tea with a leaf from the tree I think it's way safe to say the cat "killing her directly on the tree itself would put Alex exactly where acention happenes would lead to her ascending
I love that Neo finally let go of her anger over Ruby and finally no longer blames her
I would actually say that the Cat was more dangerous when in Neo's body. What the cat lacked in overall power, he more than made up for it using Neo's Semblance, able to create infinite illusions and copies of itself and just overwhelm them. Even if Ruby came back, Neo's Semblance likely would have actually made it harder for them to land effective hits cause they have no idea what the illusion is and what the real body was. But having been expelled from Neo's body, the Cat was just a single target for them. Far easier to focus their attacks on.
Essentially while in Neo's body, the cat was more versatile, but was more powerful out of it while losing that versatility.
If the volume were to get an short little end credits scene, I like to imagine it would be Somewhat and Juniper trying to find a way to get down The Great Tree.

I’d say that the dark brother learned from his mistake. He first doesn’t want to destroy their creation, but later decides to destroy their creation when they start acting up. But they do realize that Salem needed to learn something or her spirit would continue to be a menace somehow. They tried to teach Salem a lesson, not their fault Salem didn’t learn, yet.
Salem learned, she just didn’t learn the lesson the gods wanted her to learn.
I was so so so so so so SOOOOOO happy when the familiar tune of red like roses started. The amount of joy is immeasurable when she started fighting the cat.
Now for the info bombs we got, HOLY CRAP!!! Now it makes SOOO much sense why the brothers are the way they are. And the memory of summer, i think raven went along with her and got some severe trauma.
Overall, i enjoyed vol 9. It's not perfect, hell the entire series is in no way perfect, but it's enough for me at the end of the day
This season needed another episode between 8 and 9. Something to let the impact of Ruby basically ending herself sink in and maybe either emphasize Neo's inner turmoil a little bit (not everyone read the spinoff story after all), go a little further into Ruby's rebirth, or let the rest of the party sort of absorb what happened and what led them to how things are.
There was supposed to be two episodes in fact. But halfway through production WB pulled their budget.
The problem was the funding, and I don't think WB gave them any budget to begin with, they probably only had the money from the CR deal.
I thought the interesting part about this finale was how the blacksmith help Ruby understand her true purpose and that she forgave herself for all her problems.
When she found her inner peace she then proceeded to help her friends defeat the evil cat, and then the biggest reveal was that the tree had created The Brothers Grimm and that they were the ones to create the Ever After in the first place.
I also have a theory for the possible volume 10 and that it involves Ruby and her allies being the only ones capable of putting an end to Salem and her Wicked Ways if you noticed how the girls are they represent the four seasons so I won't be surprised if the Creator's decide to give Ruby Weiss Blake and Yang gain the power of spring, summer, fall, and winter or maybe the power of the elements Fire, Air, Water, and Earth.
2:38 One other big honking revelation from this flashback. Yes, we see Summer was working with Raven for her final mission, but Raven isn't the only one. Raven's semblance is very useful for portalling around, but *who is at the other end of that portal?* We've known since volume 5 how Raven's semblance works, and we know she can only make portals to the specific people she's bonded with. This portal obviously wasn't going to Tai or Yang, so there's only one other option that we know of: Qrow. It's theoretically possible that Raven had another person she could portal to at that time, but that seems unlikely. It seems very likely that Qrow was also involved in Summer's final mission, which in turn means he was lying (or at least concealing something) to Ruby when she asked him about Summer's final mission back in v7e4 (the graduation scene). Note that Qrow's involvement would also explain his delirious (he was suffering from Tyrian's poison at the time) line back in volume 4, "Tai...she's not coming back."
You have to figure that at some point, Ruby is going to talk with Yang about what she saw through the tree. Ruby might not know the specifics of Raven's semblance, but Yang definitely does, and when Yang hears the part about Raven making a portal to someone that obviously isn't her or Tai, she's going to make the connection.
I love how Little's new look is obviously inspired by Ruby!! The hair!! The small cap shaped like a maple tree leaf!!! So cute, so touching, and so telling of Little's purpose in the future ❤❤❤❤
A thing to note on the final shot is that the big ship in the middle isnt an atlesian ship, thats the ship seen in the first seasons used in beacon, so it could also mean that we could see characters from Vale like Glynda and Tai. Honestly with the fact that volume 10 isnt greenlit, i can tell that it will be the last volume and they want to have everyone in on this.
I'm gald Jaune has his youth back and I like that they keep some white in his hair so I wonder if it's going to be some new Symbol to the new self. It's actually going to be a good thing he kept his ever after memorial, he might become distant to his team and rwby as well despite coming terms with his failures but I feel we might have got a hint for Jaune to join the the abandoner club like summer and Raven. I can't wait for everyone reaction to Jaune being the Rested knight.
To be fair on the brothers, it seems like they switched perspectives on wanting to destroy/not blame their creation when stuff goes wrong the second time it occured. So they definitely took something from this 1st time around, not enough to stop it but enough for them not to repeat it exactly.

The Brothers were created by the Tree and assisted in the Ever After’s creation.
And…
Raven was not only *present, but was involved* in Summer Rose’s last mission.
I saw someone have an interesting theory: If the tree precedes the dragons, then it has the power to override whatever work they potentially have done toward their creations... This can include Salem. The tree definitely is gonna be an important aspect for the final phases of this series.
Also, it felt like Ruby was able to use the power of her eyes a bit more freely, unless it was just a lighting effect.
I'm really excited to see what comes next in the sense of team RWBY telling everyone about their adventure. I'm very curious as to how Oscar/Ozpin takes it, and how much he knows about the Ever After (or how much he lets slip, wouldn't be Oz if he didn't keep stuff from them)
I'm happy that Ruby remained herself, with her memories intact, and man was this season finale awesome!, now I'll be looking forward for Volume 10.
Forgot to mention this, but if you watch closely, you can see that Ruby's movements when first attacking the cat are quite similar to her first movements from the Red Trailer. Thought that was a really cool detail.
Did anyone else get the implication that the Blacksmith was Alyx reincarnated.
Think about it, she explained all about the Brothers creations, but she didnt mention when she was made.
Also, theres the fact that Ascension didnt seem to be a thing at that point since the Tree decided to send the Brothers away instead of absorbing them back.
Then you have to think back to Alyx’s last wish. SHe wanted to fix all the things that were broken and the people she hurt, ESPECIALLY Jaune. And when showed up at her workshop, she said she was waiting a long time for him.
To (ironically) be Deviils Advocate for the Brothers. I dont think theyre INTERFERING with other worlds. I think theyre overall CREATING worlds to make that perfect Balance the Smith mentioned.
This is something that has been on my mind, that I thought you might want to think about too. In Volume 6, Episode 13, Qrow tries to stop Ruby from talking to Cordovin. Ruby turns to him, and he gets this look on his face right before she says "You need to trust me." I have seen it somewhere that he probably reminded of Summer at that moment. I thought that was sweet...until I saw Summer say something very similar to Raven before Raven opened that portal. Is it possible that Qrow saw Summer before she disappeared too?
I think the Blacksmith just sent them forward in time. Remember she/he said the door would take them to "when" they are needed most. after everything we've seen in volume 9 a magic time door doesn't seem out of the question
Great volume. The show truly found its footing. Hope future volumes will be similar in quality story vise.
It's gonna be very awkward if the Cat ends up able to come back as the Tree saw it as a Neo kill and not a Jabberwalker kill

Maybe its just me, but I'm sitting here wondering why the idea of the cat being unplugged from the Cycle is a thing. After all, it wasnt the real jabberwock that offed the cat, it was Neo. As we saw with Little, even a forced Ascension due to murder still counts as ascension, and.....and.this may be a stretch......but the blacksmith did have a carving of the cat.....who had never ascended before.

This volume was fantastic in so many ways! This finale was definitely hype and had so many beautiful moments. That being said, I feel that this volume would have benefited from a 12 episode season instead of 10. Ruby’s turnaround was maybe a bit rushed but nevertheless hit the correct endpoint. What I think makes this volume meaningful will be what happens in later volumes. I would like to see a conversation between team RWBY and Juane about the events of episode 7 (ideally pretty within the first few episodes of V10). Ruby and Juane can apologize for their breakdowns and WBY can apologize to Ruby for not being there for her or realizing the true extent of her internal suffering.
Weiss didn't seem so surprised, she just goes Ruby!

That why she and Ruby is connected I think Ruby is Weiss first true best friend she really close she just has different way of showing it
Funny thing about Summer's axe triggering that memory is it was startlingly similar to me to a power of Darkness in Destiny called "Deepsight" the ability to see an event/memory, to rebuild something from it or experience an emotion attached to it. Ruby's initial reaction to Summer's actions wasn't something I didn't expect. Looking up to, and living in the shadow of your perfect heroic parent only to find out she really wasn't all that special or incapable of something as vulgar as deception is a hard thing to come to terms with. Especially when Ruby was feeling how she was feeling. But I liked that Summer was somewhat able to provide counsel to Ruby by her last words to her daughter. Making Ruby realise all she needed to be was herself.
I legitimately thought as I watched it, that the team was sent back in time 4 years, to the last time the Vytal festival was held in Vacuo. I think your take is probably right, but omg I was losing my mind man
I think I saw some ships from Mistral and maybe even Vale in that last shot as well.
Which, if true, means that Ruby's message was heard and paid off.

Vacuo Squad: "Wait, wait, wait, wait. Just saw us? But it's been months since the fall of Atlas."
Team RWBY + Jaune: looking at each other in confusion, because they thought Jaune was going to be the only one with a messy timeline of events.
Vacuo Squad: Now concerned at the silent communication between Team RWBY + Jaune: "Soooo, It's been exactly how long for you guys?"
Team RWBY: "Couple of days." Jaune at the same time: "Couple of decades."
Vacuo Squad looks from RWBY to Jaune in stunned silence, before starting to focus on Jaune.
Jaune, before anyone can ask anything: "No, I will not elaborate."
Ruby whispered to Jaune: "You have no idea how to even begin to explain do you?"
Jaune whispered back: "Nope. It also hurts my head just trying to sort it out, so I'm going to put off thinking about it for as long as I can get away with it... Plus I'm still getting used to this voice and body again, still feels weird."
Team RWBY, nodding in understanding at Jaune's answer.
Ruby putting a hand on Jaune's shoulder: "Same. I am still adjusting to my own body. You had a bigger change, take your time."
Vacuo Squad becoming increasingly confused and concerned for the 5, especially Ruby and Jaune. They look to WBY for an answer.
WBY, noticing the looks: "Nope."
I just watched back the scene with the blacksmith and Alyx's knife makes sounds like it's a butterfly knife? It makes clacking noises that you would hear from a butterfly knife and the blacksmith even opens its hand to catch it like you would in the open position, but it's clearly a straight dagger? And it makes another noise when it is levitated up before being handed to Juane.
This was an outstanding episode and like you said was one of the best finales RWBY has had thus far. Plus I saw four things that I was happy about:
1. OG Ruby returned
2. More insight on Summer and her last mission. Plus more Summer Rose
3. More lore dropped about the Brothers and how the tree is the center of the RWBY universe
4. Just more of The Blacksmith because she was one of my personal favourite characters from this volume as well as the RWBY franchise in general because she's that type a character I love; one surrounded in mysteries yet can act as a guide and give some words of wisdom when needed.
I'm convinced that the tree in the Ever After is a reference to the Tree of Ygdrassil and that could lead to possibly more worlds existing in their universe. Only time will tell if we will learn more on what happens with that. This was an outstanding episode as well as a perfect end for this Volume and I can't wait to see what happens in Volume 10.
P.s. it was so nice to hear "Red Like Roses" again...its my favourite song from the RWBY franchise.
Holy cow, what a finale! When Ruby emerged from her cacoon and Red Like Roses started playing...I got teary eyed....It was so freaking good. Honestly, this is the best finale of RWBY we've had for awhile. I enjoyed every minute of it as well as getting some more Summer Rose backstory and such. Big Lore drops this volume. I can't wait to rewatch this volume. It's the best one I've seen for awhile.
I think ruby has been put into a better mind state for her team to be able to help her open up.
I’m hoping to see a reunion scene where everyone (Nora, Ren, Oscar, Emerald, Winter, Willow, Whitley, Klein, hopefully Team SSSNN, CFVY, and the three Happy Huntresses) give RWBY and Jaune a hug glomp of a hug just like the one in Lost! AND Ruby and Oscar get a personal hug isn’t interrupted (like how Emerald interrupted their hug in Ultimatum)

SO in the end, the Gods, I can't even call em gods anymore, are even more flawed beings that we already deduced. They truly don't learn from their mistakes but rather blame others for making mistakes. They staked the world on everyone getting along in peace when apparently they can't even keep peace amongst themselves, and punish others when their mistakes come to bite them. They're hypocrites. And I feel this makes them more dangerous than they are. They're not just godly, they're kinda childish in mindset as well
You were right, jaune did save Neo. From the cat, at least. And I'd say he was instrumental in her decision to ascend.
(Also not gonna lie, her exchange with Roman almost made me cry the first time I saw it.)
I really enjoyed this finale. Was super happy seeing Ruby finally realizing she’s perfect just the way she is, also Neo accepting her faults and willingly choosing to ascend was beautiful. My favorite part is the new Summer lore, I hope we see Raven in Volume 10 so we can get more info on what happened.
32:05 - I'm hoping they've been gone since 2011, which is when the last episode of Volume 8 aired. That means if Volume 10 were to air right now, Jaune and RWBY would've been gone for 2 years.

Honestly, I thought the scene where Ruby held her own against the cat was a bit weird. But then I realize the cat has watched every one fight but Ruby.
