- This is a cover of Battle - Vengeance for Reclamation - by Ryota Kozuka from Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance. I have remade the track in the style of Shoji Meguro's rock battle tracks around the PS2 era of SMT games, as if Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance released on the PS2 in the mid to late 2000s.

This track is easily one of the highlights from SMT V Vengeance’s new soundtrack, being the battle theme for the new form of the Nahobino (that’s as much as I’ll say to avoid spoilers). I thought this track would be a fairly easy remix to do in this style at first, but the later sections made things very complicated. The first section is very classic SMT sounding, extremely fast tempo, guitar power chords and a super cool riff. A lot of these aspects are already very Meguro-like, so not much had to be changed. The B section in the original track has some nice pads and a male opera sample, neither of which fit the style very well. So I took some cues from Formidable Foe and used some tremolo strings instead. I have kept the piano for the final section of course, while also bringing in some trumpet and guitars.
Thanks again to the Persona Sound Resource, I have managed to get ahold of the piano plugin that Meguro has used since the PS2 era, New York Concert Grand Piano by Native Instruments. While somewhat of a pain to get working, finally putting it in these mixes makes things sound much more authentic I feel.
Of course, Meguro's signature guitar tone is always the most important element of these remixes, for a more detailed breakdown of how I recreated it, I'd advise checking out the description for the cover of An Honour Befitting That Name I made here: • An Honor Befitting Tha...
As someone who already enjoyed Shin Megami Tensei V back when it released, Vengeance has given me a whole new appreciation for the game. Hearing this track in-game for the first time is a really cool and invigorating moment and makes the rest of Canon of Vengeance just that little bit better.
I’m tossing up on which other new tracks from Vengeance to cover. Be it battle or area themes, let me know! I want to know what everyone would like to hear covered.
I hope you enjoy the cover!

I can't imagine how battle- destruction would sound like with your style
HE DOES NOT MISS OH MY GOD
i think it'd be really interesting to hear you try and do Primordial Goddess since that song is so drastically different, same with M's Revelation or Qadistu Battle. Bounce And Roll would also be really sick!
Thanks! Out of all of these, I'm leaning the most towards Qadistu Battle because it seems to be a fan favourite and it shouldn't be too difficult to translate it into this style. I so desperately want to do a cover of Primordial Goddess every time I listen to it (I think DnB + Meguro Rock would sound sick), but it's so different stylistically that I have a hard time imagining how it could be done.
LETSSS GOOOOO I LOVE THE TRUMPETS IN TOWARDS THE END
Oh this is sex to my ears, I knew this track would translate well to a Shoji remix.
Every single one of these remixes is so cool. God, I love this stuff.
MASTERFUL
Those trumpets!!! Oh my!!!!
Won't listen to it until i play the game, but I'm commenting for the algorithm
Another banger! I’ve been in love with these remixes ever since I stumbled upon your channel a few weeks back. An Honor Befitting That Name is my personal favorite.
I don’t know how much they would change but I’m curious to hear Battle: Origin or Battle: Abdiel in Meguro’s style
Well this is a nice surprise just after finishing the vengeance route. I cant wait to see what you cover next
wonderfull. the start sound like Battle Theme from SMT 1, but everything sound great. I can say "silence, they put on audio pornnnn"
peak
I wonder what does smt 4 main theme sound like if it's in Shoji Meguro style
I was super disappointed when this replaced the vengeance da'at theme but this remix makes the song 100x times better, you're a genius
You’re the first person I’ve seen disappointed by the music change. You didn’t appreciate it for the dramatic shift in tone after certain story events?
@@henryaggerate9669 I did really like all the context and events happening around the song, my issue is with the song itself. My favorite part of this track comes in at about 0:51 seconds, but at this point in the game most battles only last 20 seconds or so. Compare the first 20 seconds of this track to the first 20 seconds of Battle Da'at and Vengeance Da'at, and this theme really falls flat for me
me too man. This remix did the justice, it was much better
@@kakugowaii5854to each, their own.
I wonder if Quadistu can be done as well? Would be interesting
Funny timing! I've just uploaded a cover of that here: th-cam.com/video/B7uYaI66f2M/w-d-xo.html
Why does this track sound so familiar, does it sample some previous smt song
Aside from the instruments themselves being based on the DDS and Raidou osts, there’s a little bit of SMT4’s A1 battle theme at 0:22 in the pianos. A1 was also remixed into Tsukuyomi’s boss theme in SMTV’s normal route, hence why it was probably added here.
Could you be more specific about what is Persona Sound Resource please? I'm very interested in that
It's essentially a spreadsheet of identified samples/instruments/VSTs/plugins that have been used throughout the Persona games. Because Meguro composed for 3, 4 and 1 on PSP during the 2000's, many of the sounds listed were also used in the other PS2 SMT games.
