I can't tell you how much it means to be 41 watching you break this down. I watched you when I was a kid and thought"i could never do this". Now for the past decade I've been pursuing motorcycle mechanics and to have you show me lessons on how to maintain, upgrade and everything in between means the world to me. I have 2 sons, I'm trying to build my own garage, this will be my 3rd buisness and probably the one I'm most passionate about and I love you man.
I love this guy good instructor and person. I learn alot from him. Rode with him when he came to Hawaii 23 years ago in the Aloha state. Never goin to forget that. And yes The Late Indian Larry came here to RIP.
Billy has a good way of breaking it down for the layman . That's the sign of being a good teacher. Thank you Bill ! I also like that he asks the viewers exactly what content That they would like to see. Another trait of a good teacher. Thanks again Billy ! We love you & it's nice to see where your path is taking you .🏍️🎸💰🙏👪
That's almost what I did to my '95 Fatboy .. I went with Zippers Performance 80/80 kit ... I sent them my heads, jugs and CV carb and they did all the machine work. port and polished my heads and installed bigger valves. Fitted my jugs with 10:1 pistons and tuned my carb. They sent everything back with new cam(a Red Shift 559) and push rods along with everything I needed to put it all back together including an S&S metal breather valve ... After I got it all together, I had it dyno'd and even with shitty LAF short exhaust, it still made a bit over 80HP and 98 ft/lb of torque ... I also added a six speed trans to mine and love it. It runs strong nd can keep up with my buddies newer bikes, no problem ... Great video. Love watching you work ....
Very glad that Billy is doing what God made him to do and sharing it with us. I've prayed for you since the GBBO, through your incident, and continue to pray for your salvation and blessings. One way through Jesus Christ! I've already seen and can hear a repentant and contrite spirit when you speak. That's a compliment BTW. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talents with us!
My favorite bike builder of all time. When I was a kid I had a book full of custom builders pictures I looked at for hours. and Billy Lane is the goat. This is amazing. Wanna do this to my 97 fatboy. What a down to earth legend.
I feel like I just went thru a 2 year course in half an hour. Always been a fan. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and explaining everything in such detail. About to do the same to my 96 FXSTC. Perfect video. Thanks again!
Hey mr. Billy Lane , just want to tell ya, your honesty and humility shines bright and the the world is a better place with people like you.keep doin’ you brother.
I just traded a 99 electraglide for a 92 springer. Super excited to get to work on making it my own. I used to live down by your shop in melbourne. Tried getting into your shop to do an apprenticeship. And was told you were waiting on the insurance to do an apprenticeship. I stopped in your shop about a week before the a1a incident and then i moved to michigan. You and larry have always been my favorite builders. Im now disabled and was diagnosed with a brain mass.
Thanks Billy, for taking the time to make these informative videos, and thanks also for all the things you do for the riding community, particularly those of us who ride vintage iron 👍
Very humble guy and what a great instructor. He could teach at a school for sure. I’m checking all of his videos to see what he’s done with a Flathead. I have a 37’ ULH and I want to learn how to service valves, carb, etc. Time to buy a really good manual.
Billy great tutorials. I own a 1988 fxsts I want to make her look like you set up on your bad boy since I bought her in 88. But I had a huge family. I now have the money to work on her but no time anymore. Thank you for showing me what she would end up looking like. PS: great to see you active in the community. The last time I saw you was Larry's memorial.
I live in Tennessee as well and my dream has always been to open a shop of my own but I would love to get into a shop with you and soak up all the knowledge I could.because I really believe when all the real ones like you are gone then we lose decades of knowledge books can’t teach.I was thinking of how much you probably learnt from all the guys before you and they learnt from the guys before them just a lifetime of trial and errors, real craftsmanship of constantly grinding, honing and carving a path of their own.I just love this shit man.
Seriously good tutorial here. Billy, I'm just up the road from you in Murfreesboro. I'd like to do something on my channel about the Board racers. How can we go about this?
Why am I only finding this channel now? I've been a huge fan of yours since I first saw Build off. Great video, no annoying music, no bs, just a quality tutorial. It sounds awesome, and the black and silver are definitely better looking than the black and red. I'll bring one of your bikes to Ireland 🇮🇪 one day
Oh and thank you for all the knoledge you showed me. This is my 1st Harley. I have stage 4 cancer and always wanted a harley so before i die i got one. And fell in love with her. The pipes are very loud and saved me a couple times . Loud pipes save lives !!! Thats no bull !!!! .
I am damn happy to see you're still doing what you love and putting out works of art and pleasing every person that brings in their bike for a tune up. With all the knowledge that you gathered over the years from very reputable motorcycle builders you are second to none thank you Billy I would look forward to meeting you someday.
Watching your bad boy series is giving me confidence to wrench on my ‘96 bad boy. I’m glad I listened to our mutual friend at Custom Destruction Wes who talked me into bad boys
Just did this to my twin cam 88 - 95 . Screaming eagle 10:25 to 1 and 253 cam . Took 7 days . Older and slower . Stock engines are so epa out - Just gets better and better . More food for my head ; your video- ✊🏻👍👌🙏👋
I just found your channel and immediately subscribed. I have followed you since the Biker Build off series. You mixed it up with several of my favorite builders i.e. Indian Larry and many other great builders. I am glad to see your still going full strength. Congratulations on everything Billy and God Bless.
Anyone watching this Master Builder work can learn something without even trying EX: like the brief explanation of the plug color/pictures What a joy Thank You Billy !
hey Billy,, i watched you on discovery,, in the day,, i really like this platform, without all the bullshit,, and im learning as we go,, im 58,Ride a 92 Electraglide with an S&S 96" EVO,, been riding 51 yrs,, 30+ bikes.. thankyou for what you do
You did a really good video here; covered all the points, clear and concise. I have a'98 Fatboy EVO with mild build. I considered this level over 20 years ago, but never went ahead with it. It still runs great as it is. I'm 75 now, still enjoy the ride, but I don't need the speed at this point in my life. Thanks for sharing this quality channel.
i have used screaming eagle heads on a couple bikes i drag raced. On personal ones or friends bikes we use gel paint stripper to strip the wrinkle finish paint from the combustion chamber and exhaust port. it comes off easy and gives a smoother finish that wont hold carbon easily and quickly. It comes off fairly easy leaving clean aluminum.
Great shout out to Jesse you are so real and humble. Think you are the last man standing Billy. Oc is gone, west coast is gone. Kinda brings a tear to your eye when you see the one guy still out there doing it.. way to go man...
Hey brother love your videos I'm 68 and have been working on bikes and cars in my little garage for a long time every weekend you have taught me a lot of tricks, keeps me going, keep it up, and thanks for your time!!
Great Video Billy! I’m a huge fan of yours. I’ve been watching you since I was a little kid. The biker build off series was my favorite show. You and Indian Larry are two of the greats! Love the push rods cover collars! Awesome touch and a great remembrance of a true legend. Looking forward to more of you videos. Ride hard, ride true, and ride safe my brother! 🤘🏼
I have a 95 Softail Custom Evo, and I've been trying to find out the best way to pep it up without taking the traffic driveability out of it. Great Information Billy. Thank You. Comeback 1%
Absolutely love these videos. Over the last 10 years or so I have added quite a few bikes to my herd in the shop. The maintenance and upkeep can get stupid expensive if you don’t attempt it yourself. It is hard enough to find someone to work on your shovels or pans these days, those old school wrenches are getting fewer by the year. These videos have helped me understand and do more on my own bikes. Would love to see something down the road on S&S carb rebuild and get a little more in depth on jetting. I know there are videos out there on the subjects but they are not taught by the zen master…Billy Lane. Keep pumping it out Billy, best content I’ve watched on TH-cam in a long while.
Glad you are here. I started doing my own work because, as a teenage college student, I couldn’t afford to buy the parts I wanted or to pay labor rates for the work.
@@BillyLaneChoppers th-cam.com/video/rI0nhnM75Eg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CB8xyOjpRrrDPRjs Thanks for making and sharing the videos you put out. I know your a guitar player so I thought I would share this video with you. Texas blues at its best. Alan Haynes is a good friend of mine for many years, a true master of his craft. He has been playing the Texas blues circuit since the late 70’s. Played with all the greats over the years, Johnny Winter etc. Thought you would enjoy the tone he puts out on that old Strat.
I didn't know you were from around my area. Hendersonville resident here. Been a big fan for a long time since the Biker Build Off days. Glad to see ya on here. God Bless ya man!!
Great channel Billy, I just found it tonight. I use to always watch your shows and bought some parts from you in the past. I think I am going to buy a late 90's softail after watching these videos.
Just got 1st Harley Davidson 2 yr's ago. Love wrenching on it. (Relaxing) Seriously like your approach & idea's on your work.. Really makes me excited to do more, Thank you for the tutorials,, helps out a bunch
I really love your videos Billy. You are such a talented machinist/mechanic and good teacher and do a great job of showing and explaining everything, and its awesome to see your enthusiasm and all your little personal touches and details that are important to the bike and to you. Yeah the paint looks sweet and the Indian Larry lifter tubes are special. One of my favorite Biker Builds was the one with you and Indian Larry. He was such a great guy, like you, and the brotherhood and fair sportsmanship you both showed was top end. I watched the video about the flood you had in your shop and felt so bad for you but it was a miracle your equipment and especially the bikes escaped damage and I was happy you had good help cleaning it up and getting back on. I hope you are having a happy life farther north now. Anyway, thanks again for your energy and love for what you do. Also, its great you give credit to everyone that is part of the ride. Keep on.
My neighbor is an HA for 25 years now and hes got the road glide with full tour pack and rocq fosgate and all. He can light a cigarette at 100 mph easily and he told me " cool aint comfortable" i laughed my ass off. He said he used to be cool. Now hes comfortable hes so right ✅️
Love the maintenance vids 👍🏻 I ride a Sporty that used to be a 883 but my local independent Harley mechanic made it to a +1200 with opened heads and bigger valves, it made a ton of difference! I call her MissBehavin in honour of your red Chopper with the devils tail behind the tank in front of the “family jewels “ that bike was and is my dream bike 💪🏻
Was pumped to hear you mention Stephenson's Cycle. Mr. Boyle and I had a nice conversation about you last time I was there, a while back. Your Bad Boy is truly one super cool ride. Always been a fav of mine. Love the vids. See you and Larry everyday on my garage gallery walls.
Thank u for not doing this on a dry bike-I always feel like an amateur spilling the fluids everywhere. Great vid been watching you for years now I’m subbed to ya on the tubes. Keep it up brother
Love the honesty of this old evo, and way excited to see it get a fresh power boost. Great work on the video, and thank you very much for sharing with us! I watched all the build off shows back in the day, and its really impressive how the same guy from all that high dollar glossy stuff can share a real honest tune up job with us now. Your knowledge really shows, thanks again.
It's great to see you back in the groove and doing what you love it was very helpful I'm 70 and still want the ride on Evo 1340 you definitely need more horsepower great video billy stay cool keepup the good work
Wow well done Billy. You explain things perfectly and you are inspiring me to modify my 90 FXSTS. You definitely know what you’re doing so please continue showing more content on your EVO.
I don't know if you remember me or not but you got me to come from Mississippi to play on your show I really enjoyed playing guitar for you It was quite a thrill for a young kid I really appreciate the opportunity you gave me and hope I didn't cause yet too much trouble You have made me a true fan for life sir Keep up the good work
Again Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!! Anybody can read but the way you explain makes a person can get way more out of!!! I have learned more in life from other people than any book!!!
Thompson Station? I lived out there back in 88, now I'm in OKC and have a 97 Bad Boy. I kinda redid her with a raked triple tree and a 16" out front and no fender. Love the power and the ride ain't bad with that Softail. Small world!
Love your work Billy, in a day & age where most are soending ridiculous amounts of money on new blingy bikes, it refreshing to see you doing your thing on the old evos. My first bike was an evo, so they hold a special place in my heart always. Just wanted to thankyou for your informative approach with your videos- certainly learning a lot from you. Greetins from New Zealand. 👍
I've been after a Harley for over 10 years can't seem to find a decent one that's not way over priced. But that bike is right up my alley. It's beautiful one day il be able to ride free again. Enjoy.
Thank you so much brother for your very informative videos. I had the pleasure of meeting you and Indian Larry at Steel Ponies back in 03. I'll never forget it. You and Indian Larry were so cool and friendly. The Tuttles were a bunch of lame jerks. The only cool bike they had was the Cody panhead chopper. I met Dave Periwitz, he was super cool. I can't tell you how much respect I have for you guys that do things the old way, which means the right way. Thank you for honoring Indian Larry's memory. You've overcome a lot of obstacles in your life brother. To sum it all up, Keep on trucking bro. Please keep these videos coming. Peace Bro, Shovelhead Paul.
Billy, you make it look easy, that's a sign of a true professional. I have a stock FLSTS. Diamond Ice, with a black ribbon, lined in red, you can't beat black and silver. Great content.
The excitement can be felt when you finished putting the engine together, I thought you were gonna show how the sled performs on the highway; nevertheless sweet upgrade, I love softails, this one looks and sounds amazing! ride on!
So cool to see Billy and a few others from the great biker build off back in action. Especially after that run in with the law, I watched that video a while back.
I had the pleasure of meeting you years ago and you made me feel like I was a friend. I will always appreciate that. Subscribed, and I wish you well in the future. I live in central Tennessee. Welcome!
Billy, it is always nice to hear a properly timed and tuned Harly engine. As you have done with this bike. That engine just jugs along at idle as a Harly should. Instead of sounding like a John Dear tractor.
Education has a value all its own. Billy appreciate you Sir. I have 98 Softail Custom which was given to me after it had sitting in a field for over three years. Im gonna bring life to this machine and life shall be granted unto me. ML&R
Just found your TH-cam page. Back in the 90s/2000s, I used to follow your builds in the magazines. Glad I found your page🤙. I'm currently riding a roadglide daily but have an 81 shovel I'm putting together. I'm glad to see you're still doing it and making this content. MLH&R
I’m glad you are here with me. I got my first new Harley-Davidson last fall, 2022 Road Glide ST, I’m making some videos with it. But mostly old choppers, racers, & fabrication here.
@Billy Lane I too am on a Road glide. Ultimately because I was rear-ended on my old bike. Hit me doing 45. Just glad to be on top of the dirt at this point. Just got my 81 shovel running last night. First time in 6 years. Gotta say finding you videos pushed me to get back out there and turn some wrenches again. Thanks.
Great video Billy, thank you for sharing! I’m going to buy my first Harley Davidson 2003 FXDL as soon as I get my tax return. The guy who owns it is going to give me a pretty nice deal on it and I am pretty excited! It has a S&S super e carburetor, vance & hines pipes, a nice high performance clutch. Even though the bike has 41,XXX miles, it should be a fun bike.
Man I've owned two bad boys. 96 both with the yellow scallops. Greatest bike ever made and precursor to the second best bike ever made, the night train. Both bikes I bored 30 over with an ev27. Evo + black fx springer = perfection
I’m stoked that I found your channel, you inspired me when I was young and now I’m doing the same kind of things I watched you do. I just picked up a 93 FXDL that I’m gonna do some of this same work on.
Dam billyman!! I learned alot here!! I have an 05 roadking special.custom.i did same thing almost..I tore it down..we checked the run out..practically perfect! The kit I bought was the side winder kit..heads..pistons..jugs..gear drive cams..551s..also I put on a six speed in mine too..Jim's super kit...we put it on the dyno an the bike has 99hp..exactly..and really crazy ftlbs of tourqe...❤️🇺🇸💪🏁my motor is a 95ci..
Thanks for making this video Billy and the whole jetting / spark plug thing you do couldn’t be any clearer. I’ll use this procedure on my 99-2003 Gilroy Indians. Been a big fan since the good ole days and Just subscribed as well.
Awesome Billy you have a channel I remember watching you on Discovery 20 years ago. Definitely thought you were a stand up guy along with Indian Larry RIP
I know paint don't make it run,but damn I couldn't put that motor back together without re-doing it,but hey that's me and as you said Billy, you like the worn look and power to you dude, awsum video as always!! Regards from New Zealand.
Mid 90's Softails are some of the best hot rods. The price of them has gone up on the used market. 10 years ago they were relatively cheap. Nice looking hot rod Billy.
Love the videos Billy thank you for taking the time. I would love to learn how to properly tune a carb. I know that's no simple task. I remember you and Larry trying to start your bike in one of the build offs years ago. Larry was a genius. Time for me to find a good mechanic to be willing to school me a bit.
Billy's such a talented dude I don't even care what the title of the video says I click it cause your gonna see something cool on his videos good stuff billy keep up the grind

Now hes comfortable hes so right ✅️
😂👍
I'm from India Billy, watching you since I was 12, on discovery channel's great bike build off now I'm 32 watching your own channel.
Man I miss Indian Larry
I like it better here
For sure even I like it better
And I can't believe you replied to me
makes me want to wake up my old 97 FLSTC miss seeing you on tv Billy
Man I really appreciate your tip of the hat to Jesse….. and Larry too. Awesome build
Billy you're amazing, I could listen to you all day long.. Thanks for sharing all these videos. Joe D.
Your Bad Boy is truly one super cool
ride.
I’m so glad I’m getting see billy lane to do work! I just started my own TH-cam working on my Harley dyna. Hope to see a lot more content
I love seeing folks working on Evo's. Thanks for the advice, I'm going to apply what I can on my 94 wg.
Peace Bro,
Shovelhead Paul.
Just found this. I don’t know shit about working on Harley motors but I love it.
Great video. Excited to check prior videos.
Billy, you make it look easy, that's a sign of a true professional. I have a stock FLSTS. Diamond Ice, with a black ribbon, lined in red, you can't beat black and silver. Great content.
Billy is the man, and he's been at it for decades.

I second your comment
He a true legend awsome bike builder
👍👍👍😜🏴🦕🦄😁🤞✌
The excitement can be felt when you finished putting the engine together, I thought you were gonna show how the sled performs on the highway; nevertheless sweet upgrade, I love softails, this one looks and sounds amazing! ride on!
First time watching any videos from Billy, class act all the way.
Your by far the smartest of all hd guys ive seen in my life.
Very useful video....I love how you explain everything and go into detail of how the parts operate and how to install and get the set up correct.

Thanks.
@@BillyLaneChoppers just got my RG back from having a 124 built. What a blast that thing is now!
Your a master at your craft. Always smiling, happy to show us how to do what you do, more builders should be like you.
Welcome to TN, awesome to have such a skilled builder in my home state. That's a sweet bike.
Man I've owned two bad boys. 96 both with the yellow scallops. Greatest bike ever made and precursor to the second best bike ever made, the night train.
Both bikes I bored 30 over with an ev27. Evo + black fx springer = perfection
Glad I worked a Ray Price Harley in Raleigh NC...in 79-85 glad I learned a LITTLE about horsepower back then.
Great video Billy. I thought those were FL Springer tins on it.. The Bad Boy colors look great. Awesome giving love to Jesse & Larry!!
The best bike builder and can learn a lot from him met him at Daytona bike week in 2006 thanks Billy
love how Billy shows and describes every step.....keep up the kick ass work!
I gotta admit, i was glad to see you were still alive when u showed up in my feed
I’m stoked that I found your channel, you inspired me when I was young and now I’m doing the same kind of things I watched you do.
I just picked up a 93 FXDL that I’m gonna do some of this same work on.
Great productions, no distractions, clear videos, good narrative. Thanks🥝🇳🇿
The silver flash with red pin stripe is just enough against the black! looks good man !
This was awesome Billy. Hell, this had me excited, lol. The only let down was no shot of you accelerating down the road on this Bad Boy.
Dude you are ny new favorite channel! You are killing it! I see 100k viewers by the end of September! Keep up the great work
I really appreciate the attention to detail while teaching us about what your doing. Enjoying following your video’s.
Love the long format. I really feel like I learned something. Been a fan of the Evo engine since I first got my dresser in ‘95. Good work!
Billy lanes competition back in the day made my want to buy a bike .
Billy's such a talented dude I don't even care what the title of the video says I click it cause your gonna see something cool on his videos good stuff billy keep up the grind
So glad you're re doing these Evo softails... as I am starting my own 1988 softail custom.
Nothing like a Evo gallop.. love it, have my 87 softail up & running in years, feels good, love your vids Billy keep up the good work
Glad to see you’re happy and still doing your thing.
Man it looks awesome with the 97 tins.. Great find man. A complete BB tin set is not easy to come by. Great content!
Creates happiness, that's a great day to describe what goes on inside a carburetor.
