    I did it! Thanks again. I couldn’t have done it without you. One minor correction and one more addition: There are actually 5 bolts on the skid plate. Apparently you are missing 2 bolts on yours. You can clearly see the stand-offs in the video. Also, on my TRD, the bumper has 3 tabs that fasten to plastic inserts in the skid plate that attach with hex screws AFTER the skid plate has been fully installed. I found it quite awkward to hook the front of the skid plate to the frame whilst ensuring the bumper tabs remained below it. Got ‘er done though!

    I love my 2010. No issues whatsoever in 170,000 miles so far. Only thing about the truck I'd gripe about is oil changes, which take a bit more time than most. But what a trivial thing to gripe about!

    • @charliecharlie9377
      @charliecharlie9377 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine is a 2010 TRD. Just got it in December ‘20 with over 200k on it already. I’m loving it too. Still looks and drives like a new truck. I recommend a full synthetic oil that way you don’t need to change oil as often as Toyota says. Supposedly I can go 10K, but I won’t go that far with it. That oil change is a PITA! It will go better next time though.

      @@charliecharlie9377 mine is a TRD too, SR5, love it. Yup, oil changes are tougher but worth it. With a 0W 20 oil you can only get a synthetic anyway because it's so light. I've used Walmart store brand forever, best oil around.. made in US by a small Texas refinery. Not expensive either

    Easy torque numbers to remember is 30, 20, 10. 30 lbs/ft for the oil drain bolt. 20 for the oil filter housing. 10 for the oil drain cap. Boom....Bobs your uncle👍

    I really appreciate this video. Actually had to run out to home depot mid-oil change for some socket adapters; really thought I had the right ones for the job. For someone who isn't mechanic savvy, I found this oil change to be somewhat stressful, but . I was doing fine until I took the oil filter out and the "long piece with the holes" didn't come out with the old filter, so I had to remove it manually. It got worse when that piece, along with the rest of the assembly to the filter compartment came apart. Luckily, I just took a breath and put it all back together. After that, it was smooth sailing. I actually ended up having to put about 8.5 qts of new oil just to get it just right. I could really tell a difference in how the engine was running I honestly have to say, this is the most annoying oil change, I've ever done in a vehicle, so I'm rewarding myself with some drinks for a job well done. Not looking forward to 7,500 miles later lol. Thanks!!

    Thank you! By the way the dash is the multi display, but the reset process is the same for the standard odometer with separate maint reqd bulb on the dash. Just make sure your odo is on Trip A, then hold the button in while you turn on the ignition. Piece of cake! (Now if I could just turn off that damn seatbelt warning siren I’ll be all set). You need a OBDII device and app for that though.

    A little trick, put the oil filter drain tool in a plastic bottle, the stiffer the better, then snap into bottom of filter housing, oil will not shoot all over the place.

    First time I’ve ever changed oil on my truck. Thank you for the easy to follow video. I could not get that oil drain plug off the bottom of my oil filter housing. The whole thing just came off. I tried loosening it, but it wouldn’t budge…guess it’s just a permanent fixture :/

    7:11 Maintenance light reset tutorial
    1) Turn key to the ‘on’ position.
    2) Set computer to trip A.
    3) Turn key to off position.
    4) Press and hold ‘trip’ button while turning the key to the ‘on’ position
    5) Hold trip button until the reset sequence is over
    I paused a little bit in the video when resetting the light because I forgot the order for a second.
    If you follow along with these steps, you should have no problem.

    Does the drain tool come with the oil filter wrench?

  • @78FullSizeBronco
    @78FullSizeBronco 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This filter setup annoys the crap out of me, all new Toyotas have it! It's a simple enough procedure, just messy. Would be a LOT better if the filter was a top mount design like on older Ford diesels as well as the GM ecotec 4 cylinder. Those can be changed with no mess whatsoever.
    I just bought a 2012 Tundra, debating on having the dealer do my oil changes because of how bad I hate this oil filter! Lol
    Used to work in a quick lube place, would groan and reevaluate my life choices anytime a Tundra came in... However the first gen Tundras had a wonderful filter setup. Horizontally mounted spin on filter that wouldn't shower oil everywhere and drain easily into the pan once loosened. Most of the gen 2 Tundras I worked on the filter drain plug was seized up and would just spin the whole canister when trying to loosen it because someone previously used the plug to tighten the whole thing instead of the cap!

    • @CrowT
      @CrowT ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It isn't THAT hard. Yeah...goofy design and takes a little bit longer. But like anything else it gets easier the more you do it. I have a Tundra and a Camry. Both with these filters. I can do them both with no oil touching the ground now. With the truck the biggest pain is the skid plate.

    • @Diamondviper911
      @Diamondviper911 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I saw you mention the oil filter plug being seized up. Mine is that way from the previous owner. Any tricks you know that can get it removed? How bad is it if I can’t get it off and just leave that on and unscrew the whole housing?

    • @78FullSizeBronco
      @78FullSizeBronco 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Diamondviper911 It will just make a mess on your hand as all the oil will drop out with it at once. Maybe try running the vehicle for a while, get it hot and try to remove the plug then. Sometimes works. My only guess is they didn't lube the o-ring when they installed it and or used the 3/8 drive to tighten the whole housing instead of the filter cup.

    Love videos that are straight to the point with clear instructions and a detailed video. Going to do this on my 2010 Tundra very soon.
    Is that a 6 inch extension bar? I’m wondering if a 5 inch extension bar would be long enough to remove the housing drain cap. Do you think so? Just trying to get all the parts without having to go under.

    Great Job! I worked for a paper mill that used Exxon brand oils and grease for their equipment, exclusively. However whenever a pump or drive box started running hot ( usually detected during a vibration test on the bearings). We would drain and replace the oil with Royal Purple. This would lower the temperature by as much as 20 degrees Fahreneit. Fiction is heat. I like Royal Purple for that reason. BTW I saw this for over 25 years.
