  • Hey there fellow Wrenchtrenchers! In this video I try to be as detailed as possible on Changing the oil in a 2013 5.7l Toyota Tundra. Why? Because I haven't been able to find one when I needed it. Hopefully this helps anyone else looking to do this job themselves. I know its just an oil change, but there is a right and wrong way to do it. I did it right! Enjoy!

    The kindness of people such as yourself to take the time to record this and show us every detail of this process cannot be quantified. Your kindness is just plain awesome. Thank you. Thank you.

    That first silver cap you removed is to drain the filter so there's no oil mess when the filter is removed. The new filter has a small pl,astic tube, that you push into the bottom of the filter to drain the filter oil into a quart container. One way is to put the plastic tube into an empty quart oil bottle, then force the tube into the bottom of the filter to drain the filter oil into the empty quart bottle. then remove the empty filter.
    Leave the oil fill cap in the filler hole, to prevent anything from bouncing down the hole into the engine.
    Change the plastic housing out for an aluminum one, the plastic seems to become fragile at around 100K miles.
    Great Video.

    The filters come with a drain valve saving that mess, look at the instructions with the filter. You do not need to remove the skid plate. If you do it's a real pain in the butt to reposition it. Remove the 10 & 12 MM bolts, and just lower its back with its hooks still in the core support. Ensure it's secure for the task, SHARP edges. You can support the bottom if you like. Get yourself a container with a handle on it to drain the filter. I have a 32 Oz container, works perfect. A 1.1/16" socket on the filter remover makes removing and installing the filter easy.

    You would think that Toyota could have engineered this so that the housing and filter would actually completely drain before removing them. I have been a hard core Toyota truck owner my entire life and oil changes have always been a very messy process. Love my 2013 Tundra 5.7 Crew Max after my 6 Tacoma’s. I use Trip A as my oil change mileage to keep track between oil changes. Nice video 👍🏻

    Just curious, did your Toyota filter kit not come with the adapter to drain the filter? My K&N kit did. Great video

    • @wrenchtrenchgarage5997
      @wrenchtrenchgarage5997  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It did. But it still ends up making a mess weather you use it or not. So I just crack it open and let it fall in a big oil catch.

    • @georgemullen6966
      @georgemullen6966 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, did my oil change today. You were spot on about the adapter drain. Junk. Just let mine bleed like you did....

      Have two cars with the Toyota canisters. Just put your drain pan under the filter and unscrew the filter canister normally. Don’t mess with the second filter drain. The mess is just as much as any normal filter. Messing with the filter drain plug just gives you another chance to have a leak down the road.
