The scene is easily forgotten but Gale essentially gave Beetee the idea for the delayed explosion. The idea was to use people’s sympathy against them. Draw them in, then hit them again. Katniss saw the hypocrisy in it and was against the idea. After Katniss’ conversation with Snow, she recognized Gale’s hunting trap within the bomb design that got her sister, and knew Snow was telling the truth. In the books, there was no question that it was from Gale’s design. Katniss was never for a Capitol Hunger Games. She agreed only because she had full intentions of getting rid of Coin I really enjoyed watching you both review these movies. Hope you review Songbirds and Snakes!
At the start of the story, the only thing Katniss wanted was to save her sister. The only thing Peeta wanted was to not be changed. At the end of the story, they both lost everything But they managed to survive, together. I like that it doesn't end with the typical happyly ever after. There's no true winners in war. Everyone ends up damaged and it takes true work to recover from it all. Last paragraph of the book, before the epilogue: "Peeta and I grow back together. There are still moments when he clutches the back of a chair and hangs on until the flashbacks are over. I wake screaming from nightmares of mutts and lost children. But his arms are there to comfort me. And eventually his lips. On the night I feel that thing again, the hunger that overtook me on the beach, I know this would have happened anyway. That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that. So after, when he whispers, "You love me. Real or not real? I tell him, "Real." And end of the epilogue: 'My children, who don't know they play on a graveyard. Peeta says it will be okay. We have each other. And the book. We can make them understand in a way that will make them braver. But one day l'll have to explain about my nightmares. Why they came. Why they won't ever really go away. I'II tell them how I survive it. I'II tell them that on bad mornings, it feels impossible to take pleasure in anything because l'm afraid it could be taken away. That's when I make a list in my head of every act of goodness l've seen someone do. It's like a game. Repetitive. Even a little tedious after more than twenty years. But there are much worse games to play."
It is always such an *AMAZING* book ending quote to recontextualize the title of the story at the ending. That's what I loved the most in "The Remains of the Day" and that is something trully great about The Hunger Games.
To be clear, Katniss isnt for the new Hunger Games AT ALL. The moment Coin anounced the new Hunger Games, Katniss realized that Snow was right and Coin was the vilain all along. She knew, she had to agree, to keep Coins trust long enough, to kill her. In the book she has an inner monolouge after voting yes "I look to Haymitch, now is the time when we find out how much he understands me. Now we will see, how alike we are." Haymitch knows by the look of her, that something is up, so he trusts her and said yes as well.
The reason Katniss says "goodbye gale" after his silence is because the realization hits that the bombs must've been a part of coins plan and this was down to him cause he states many times that he's okay with killing civilians and proposed the idea of the delayed bombs to Beetee earlier on in the movie, also throughout the whole franchise snow never lied to Katniss which is what makes him such a good villain, that's also partly why it insinuates the bombing was coins plan
The most heart breaking thing about this series ending is that it started with Katniss saving her sister from Potential death from the Capitol’s delusional entertainment of death, only to see her die from the Districts willing to sacrifice innocent people, including aforementioned sister, to cull in all support against one man.
Indeed. I love how the war that makes up most of the story is bookended not by big showy calls to action or big revolutionary acts exactly, but simply by the senseless awful unjustifiable deaths of two sweet, similar, young girls. Rue's death, and Katniss' validation of Rue's humanity/denial of Rue's dehumanization, kicks off the first embers of the figurative fire, and then right before the fire of war is snuffed out, it consumes Prim. Horrible but beautiful parallels, and really says a lot about the kinds of injustice humans can and can't bear to tolerate.
@@aj897 Why are you even on this video if you're going to be a snotty hater about people discussing the story? Go eat a snack and learn to scroll kiddo
On Katniss decision, “That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that".
Katniss voting yes is a charade, because everything she did was to protect Prim from the games. So her voting yes in her name is to show she has a plan. That is why Haymitch also said yes
She’s not interested in revenge against what snow did to her, I feel, cause then she would have killed snow at the greenhouse, not publicly like coin wanted. But she wanted to kill coin cause everything she did was for her sister and the thought of another while with a president like snow, who would want to suppress children to scare the people like what happened when prim got elected as a tribute was even more important to her than revenge
These mutts were a little bit more psychologically terrifying in the books. They smelled like President Snow's roses and hissed Katniss' name. Roses in general tend to trigger her at this point due to the association of the President.
watching Katniss yell at Buttercup in their house once they get back to 12, rips my heart into pieces. every. single. time. jen did an amazing job with these movies but especially this one
Idk if you noticed, right after shooting Coin, Katniss goes to take the nightlock pill and kill herself. That's why peeta looked at her like that. She stopped her from killing herself (And please check out the comments on why she voted yes to the hunger games! Especially the ones with book quotes of course)
the scene where katniss voted yes, Haymich looked at katniss and they exchanged glances. By now Haymich knew katniss so well that he knew she was planning something so he voted yes like her.
You need to watch Songbirds next. It's interesting to see Snow change, you see how everything started and why Katniss specifically triggered him so much. Tigress and her story is in that one too.
In the books, they actually did more than just those clothes and hoods as refugee disguises. They lathered them up with makeup and wigs, but I guess the movie didn’t want to make them so unrecognizable during the climactic moments of the rebels attacking, Gale being captured, and Prim being killed. I wish they included that though, cause otherwise it feels a bit lazy and illogical from the perspective of the characters in the story. Another book spoiler/difference from the movies is that the little girl in the yellow jacket is included but when she is spotted wailing on the ground next to her dead mom, Katniss’ narration describes what happens next as “Another wave of bullets slice across the chest of her yellow coat, staining it with red, knocking the girl onto her back.” So if you ever wondered if the books were as brutal than the movies, this should tell you it’s much worse. Suzanne Collins is as talented as she is savagely horrific.
I love that you guys wanted a Katniss and Johanna team up! My biggest criticism of this adaptation is a lot of Johanna is cut. There is a whole interlude where Coin tells them they both can’t go to the Capitol to fight because they haven’t done enough training with 13’s army (unlike Gale who is apparently Mr Army Man since getting there). Katniss and Johanna become roommates and train together. Johanna swears at Katniss a lot. But in the end only Katniss is approved to go. Johanna fails her test and is send back to the psych ward. I think it could’ve been a fun training montage, admittedly not the tone of the rest of the movie, but I don’t think Katniss’ “wear black no one will see me go” plan quite makes sense in its place.
Honestly, Gods, please give me Finnick back and take Gale instead 😭 I feel bad for saying it, but Finnick and Prim hurt so bad. Also glad you guys turned on Gale. I hate this man 😂😂
Jack is visibly giddy with pure romantic anticipation of a Katniss/Peeta happy ending for 90% of the movie & then drops 'consensual strangling is ok right?' 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 The ending of this is so brutal & I'm glad this series is getting the recognition it deserves from a male audience. you're not the 1st react channel I've seen who dismissed this series as 'teen girl fodder' amidst the Twilight era & now realise how good they are.
So the mutts aren’t always dogs. They’re any living creature that the Capitol uses to target the tributes/districts. The movies don’t do a great job explaining them but they’re always something genetically engineered or mutated (hence the “mutt” nickname). So that includes the dogs from the first games as well as the tracker jacker bees, the aggressive monkeys from the second games, these sewer lizard humanoid things in this movie, etc. Mockingjays are considered mutts because they’re a result of unintended breeding between mockingbirds and the Capitol mutt, jabberjays, which were also used in the second games. And as sad as it is, Peeta is proof that this can include humans as well.
There's proof that 'muttations' included humans in the first book, where Katniss spots that the dog-like mutts from the first games have the same eye and hair/fur colour as the fallen tributes from the 74th games - as well as collars with numbered tags indicating their district: "The green eyes glowering at me are unlike any dog or wolf, any canine I’ve ever seen. They are unmistakably human. And that revelation has barely registered when I notice the collar with the number 1 inlaid with jewels and the whole horrible thing hits me. The blonde hair, the green eyes, the number . . . it’s Glimmer." - Ch. 25, THG Not only did the Capitol's mutts include humans, but they also included children.
As many have said, It was Coin who did the bombs. Also it was Coin who promoted Prim to Medic/doctor. Prim is technically to young, only 13-14 to be in the field. It was coin who gave the approval for Prim to go to the capital. So essentially Coin set up for Prim to die to show Katniss that she was in control. Gale was the one who came up with the Idea of the bomb that would bring people in the help then the delayed explosion. So a mix between Coin and Gale. It so heartbreaking because Katniss only volunteer in the first game to save her sister, only to lose her in the end anyway.
Don't forget that the scene where Haymitch come in to read Katniss a letter from Plutarch (played by Philip Seymour Hoffman), that scene was supposed to be filmed differently. The director had to cut out Hoffman's part as during the filming of this movie, he died from a drug overdose. His character was supposed to say goodbye to Katniss in person. So it makes that scene a little more bittersweet knowing why Haymitch was reading that letter... 😢
Prim dying and Katniss' grief makes me sob everytime. It's just so emotional knowing she went through all of this for Prim and Prim was just another innocent kid who was my favorite character. The movie does such a good job at making it hit hard.
I love the colour symbolism in the execution scene. Katniss and Snow are always represented by black and white respectively, while Coin, the perceived middle ground between their 2 ideologies, is always in grey. But when Snow is about to be executed he's wearing a long black coat over his usual white attire, because for the moment he and Katniss are aligned in the belief that Coin needs to d1e.
i'm so incredibly happy they turned into peeta stans, them supporting gale so much in the beginning was the only thing bothering me no but honestly, this was such a fun series, thanks 4 the great time!!!
There is actually a whole reason as to why Johanna does not join Katniss in the fight. It's because she's extremely petrified of water at this point since the capitol tortured her with it along with electroshocks(I believe). One of her last endurance tests involves water, and that's when district 13 says she's unfit to fight because she just breaks down when she sees the water.
They call those things mutts because they are mutations created by the capital so that’s why there’s different lifeforms/monsters that are called mutts
You're finally (3:15) getting a glimmer of the point of the whole story: war is neither predictable, entertaining, nor fair. Susan Collins' trilogy was written to reflect that war is not a game and no one ever wins. The most we can do is work for peace and live to make it last as long as we can.
looking back both snow and katniss kept their promise of never lying to each other. also haymitch never said yes to the new hunger games. he knew katniss was going to do something else and that is his way of saying that he has her back. and the fact katniss started this whole thing to protect prim just to lose her in the end. such good writing.
Mutts are basically every genetic mutated animal created by Capitol and all the pods used by gamemakers were used in previous hunger games arenas (not the lizard mutts tho) and when the victors reunited they had very few alive because the Capitol hunted down and killed all of the remmaining victors in the disctricts during the war after the 75ths games. Please gentlemen I beg you to watch the prequel movie Ballad of songbirds and snakes that presents a young Snow.
30:54 not like effie's hair no 😭 it's actually soft orange like the sunset. ya'll probably missed it when he said that. Peeta is into like colors of the skies i think. that's why he also talks about it while that morphling tribute was dying in his arms in the catching fire movie.
Coin never experienced the games herself, she was born and raised post destruction of 13 in the underground compound. She personally has no skin in the game, which I feel like makes it easier to understand how she's just power hungry and lacks empathy for the situation, which someone raised in the districts seeing children die every year would have?
Ultimately the question is the same choice Katniss has between Peeta and Gale - it's between rehabilitation and retribution, and Coin has always shown herself to be completely on Snow's side in that regard. She intended to try Peeta for treason even when it was clear he was being tortured into speaking against the rebellion. She threw Katniss' prep team into prison for stealing a single slice of bread during their adjustment period into 13. She makes it clear not just to Katniss but all of District 13 at once that failure to properly perform as the Mockingjay will result in the clemency they gave the Victors being revoked, without regard to any of their circumstances (a stance she only backs off from when Peeta warns District 13 about the bombing and saves lives - it's ALWAYS tit for tat with her!) Katniss even doubts that they would have treated Annie well, had she not added her to the agreement with the other Victors at the last minute. And then, after the war, she suggests punishing the Capitol in the exact same way the Districts had been punished - but by then, Katniss, who has been so extremely fixated on killing Snow out of revenge, has lost Prim - lost Prim because she was *treating injured Capitol children* - and realized that she will never, ever be fixed by getting revenge for what she's lost, and the only way to move forward, for both her and Panem, is to believe in the dandelion in the spring: the promise that things can be good again.
I have many times heard that Suzanne Collins allegedly regretted Finnicks death, but idk how true it is, maybe she just said it because ppl got so attached to him and then mad at her. I really hope you guys also watch the most resent movie in this series, The hunger games: the ballad of songbirds and snakes!! It shows how president snow rose to power and how genuinely bad of a person he just always has been.
I think it was a rumour that started on tumblr. Finnick’s death was devastating, but it kind of makes the story. His death raised the stakes and made for a realistic depiction of what it’s like in a war zone aka sudden deaths where you don’t even get a moment to grieve because shit just keeps happening
@ tumblr rumour makes a lot of sense tbh, i totally agree with you on everything. As much as I love Finnick, his death was way more impactful than if he were to have lived.
Someone once asked Suzanne if she had planned to kill off Prim beforehand, and Suzanne said that the whole story had been planned out with that as an endpoint from the start. She seems to be a very intentional writer, so I believe she would stand by her decision with Finnick.
If you guys didn’t know this already, there’s a prequel about snow called the ballad of songbirds and snakes if you’re ever interested and you get to see a bit more of tigris and snow’s backstory and a lot of things makes a little more sense. AND here’s some of the last “paragraphs” in the epilogue “Peeta and I grow back together. That what I need to survive is not Gale’s fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of that myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that. “ (in the books the meaning of the dandelion in the spring is when Katniss was starving and Peeta gave her the bread and she saw the first dandelion of the spring. And she refers to Peeta throughout the books) “They play in the meadow. The dancing girl with the dark hair and blue eyes. The boy with blond curls and gray eyes, struggling to keep up with her on his chubby toddler legs” (in the books Peeta had blue eyes and curly blonde hair and Katniss had dark hair and gray eyes) “My children, who don’t know they play on a graveyard. Peeta says it will be okay. We have each other. And the book. We can make them understand in a way that will make them braver.” (Peeta, Katniss, (and I think) Haymitch made a memory book to commemorate important people in their lives who had died)
Loved your reaction!! Glad yous enjoyed it. Some people don’t because the pacing is a bit stilted but I think it’s realistic to a real war and how to rebuild. There’s no soaring victory. I’ll comment on some of the things you said. Yeah there’s a lot to say, Johanna was meant to go with Katniss. In the book, they both trained together to go into combat, they both had to pass some exam thing first then they would be allowed to go to the Capitol to fight. Johanna failed because she had a PTSD flashback and ended up back in the hospital, meaning she couldn’t go. I wish it had been included in the film. Also, Tigris does disguise them really well in the books, I don’t know why they didn’t bother much in the movie? Gale was developing a two tiered explosion with Beetee that would draw civilians and medics in to help the injured from the first explosion and then a delayed explosion would go off. That’s what killed Prim so you can make your own judgements off of that. Katniss already disagreed with that morally, killing medics is an international war crime but yeah, now it’s killed her sister she’s just done with him. I think he helped make the bomb, but didn’t know when it was being used. I think it makes sense why Coin became the bad guy, it’s more interesting that what she thinks she’s doing is good and justified, for this righteous cause. As we say power corrupts, it wasn’t just one individual we needed to bring down, it was the whole system and Coin wanted to preserve that. She had to go. Honestly, read the books. I don’t wanna say any more incase you do but It’s fleshed out a lot better in the books. It’ll also be great for yous to see what’s going on in Katniss’s head all the time. Especially in regard to the boys, since you were getting mixed signals. Lastly, I love that at the start Katniss says she would never have kids because of the games, by the end she finally feels safe enough to have a family. Kids represent the hope for the future, which she’s never had before. It’s so beautiful.
So two thing I will add that you talked about happened in the book. One, in the book there is another character that never makes it to screen (there are several in order to make the movie plotline legible) named Delly Cartwright who they send in to meet with Peeta instead of Prim. Delly is a childhood friend of Peeta and they have a positive interaction at first before he spirals and calls Katniss a Mutt. Two, another longer sideplot in the book is that after Finnick and Annie's wedding, her and Johanna do team together and go through training to join the troops. There's multiple chapters of them trauma bonding, helping each other fight and get through testing, Johanna even overcomes her drug addiction. Then they go through individual combat simulation tests at the end, Katniss barely making it through without a breakdown. Johanna fails hers as they filled the room with water and she broke down. When the Capitol had her as a prisoner, one of the ways they tortured her was using water and administering electric shocks. They deem Johanna unready for combat because water is too tricky to avoid basically.
I just wanted to share, that final bit of Katniss talking to her child was taken straight out of the end of the final book, too. And I'm so glad it was, because it is one of the most accurately nailed endings ever. Like *yes*. *That* was the exact thing the story needed at the end. And there are much worse games to play. Ugh, it hits hard every time. Just in case you see this, there are some good comments explaining about Gale and the bomb. And there's a comment by a user I think called Gabriel Oliveira that's really great too
I found your channel after you'd already released the Mockingjay part 1, so I've decided to wait for part 2 and only then watch your reaction to the whole series at once. I really like your input, seeing who's your favourite character and moment and why and I'm also glad you joined team Peeta in the end. And the moment Jack got jumpscared by the mutts in the first movie will probably always be my favourite jumpscare reaction 😂 My personal headcanon (which formed during my first time watching Catching Fire) is that Haymitch and Effie get together once the war is over and travel together, coming back to 12 at the end of each journey to catch their breath and catch-up with Katniss and Peeta before they depart for another adventure.
Definitely read the books! They're really great, as would be expected they are much deeper and more detailed than the movies. Great reactions, I've really enjoyed these! 😊
Mutts can be anything. As you'll recall they designed the dogs in the first movie (they used the remnants of the dead tributes, and in the books the dogs had their faces), in the second movie they referred to the jabberjays screaming as their loved ones as "mutts", and Katniss and Peeta call each other mutts at times, basically meaning a capital made and controlled creature.
You guys really should read the book, sooo much more detail, and waaay darker than the movie. Shows alot more gore and how twisted and devastating this whole series really is... Overall, an amazing amaaazing book!!! I fell in love with it within the first page
Now although they did an amazing adaptation, it kinda failed to portray how dark this book is, bc what katniss is always thinking about killing herself. After ending with coin she is about to pull the nightlock out of her mockingjay suit to kill herself, since her sister was gone everything she fought for died with her, and also bc she thought she would be executed anyway for killing coin, so she was ready to end it all but thanks god peeta was there to avoid it
You don't know how happy I was to wake up(I'm in Australia)and see your reaction to this was up 😅 Somehow you made me laugh during Mockingjay part 2, so quite a feat! Can I just say, I love how much Jack routed for Peeta, and how excited he was at the end to see him back at District 12. And the hate for Gale too! "Oh fuck off Gale mate" 😂😂 Btw, Gale was involved in creating the bomb that killed Prim. Him and Beetie were discussing it early on in the film. The point was, he was okay to design something that could take life but he didn't know it would be used to kill Prim, but to Katniss what did that matter? War had changed him too much, and his words really came back to haunt him when he said "sometimes killing isn't personal" because in the end it was. Finnick dying will forever be heartbreaking 💔 he was one of my favourite characters! Also, Katniss wasn't actually agreeing to a symbolic Hunger Games. At that point she realised that Snow was telling the truth about Coin, but she had to make Coin believe that she was on her side. Haymitch realised Katniss had a plan and agreed with her. It's more explained in the books but you get to see that Katniss and Haymitch have that kind of connection where they can pick up on each other without words. It's a very bittersweet ending but happy that Katniss and Peeta got some happiness in the end. In the books, Katniss' depression lasts a long time, and her and Peeta eventually growing back together is a process that the movies didn't show in depth. Probably for run time, but so glad that after everything, they got to heal together. Thank you for your reactions to HG's. Loved them so much 🤍
idk if you noticed but katniss was ready to take a nightlock pill at the end there, and peeta stopped her right before she got dragged away after shooting president coin
In the books Katniss and Joanna do work as a team trying to get to the front lines. It's not as simple as just hopping on a plane, but I guess the movie needed to get Katniss there a bit faster, lol.
It’s been sooo much fun watching you guys react to these movies! I love the way you immediately became so invested and the fact that you were so empathetic all throughout. Read those books!! And keep an eye out for the new books and movies. Thank you so much for the company! Great work
I can't express this but I know anyone who is a major fan of this franchise knows what I'm talking about. The absolute psychological torture that it is to introduce someone to his franchise and for 4 whole movies Have to hold in The urge to scream "Fuck You Gale!"😂
the hunger games is one of my favorite film series and its been a pleasure to rewatch it with you guy's commentary. definitely one of my favorite watchalongs, with great thoughts and plenty laughs, so thank u❤ i will definitely be rewatching them from time to time.
Tigris is actually president snows cousin who grew up with him. She always took care of him was good and kind and sadly had to prostitute herself to take care of herself snow and their grand mam she actually had a very sad upbringing and when snow turned evil tigres turned on him so she became a rebel.
I remember reading the book for the first t8me. When I finished it, I threw the book at the wall. I cannot explain it properly - I FELT the PTSD so severely, I was severely depressed at the time and the book somehow explained the feelings and thoughts perfectly. It honestly hurt! It's just a book but I connected so much
idk if you guys noticed but, after she shot coin, katniss reached for nightlock and peeta stopped her! would love to see you guys watch the prequel too! :)
Gents, boys. You fall in the grouping of my favorite reaction folks with alanda, Jay,. Many others. Your leg up is the back and forth and commentary between you guys. Never change
Looking forward to the party!! I did not read the books. I listened to them on audible about 26 times. You’ll understand things better and what they left out but alluded to throughout the films. Y’all were so cute when you saw Peeta planting Primroses next to Katniss’ house! I just love you guys!!
Came across you less than a week ago. Subscribed immediately after the first Hunger Games reaction. Binged your series in a day. I've been waiting on this. Thank you!
Funny quib about the Toronto walking distance-I recently had an argument with my British partner because my whole life I thought an hour walk is pretty standard to and from mid-town to downtown. Hillarious
Katniss voted yes to the Symbolic Hunger Games to avoid suspicion and maneuver herself into a position to kill Coin. She even threatens subtly as she says it "I vote yes. For Prim."... Knowing that Coin killed Prim. Haymitch can tell she has a plan of some kind so he stands with her. And yes on Gale being all for killing civilians. His idea for the delayed bomb to kill the medics that come in to help is what killed Prim. His idea killed Prim, so he's pretty much dead to Katniss at that point. Also, this is just made clear in the book, but since Prim was so young and in Training, Coin would have had to directly approve Prim being there. She intentionally put Prim in range of that bomb.
"Mr. War crime" best description of Gale I've heard 😂😂
Amen.
yeah Mr genocide lol They had him on a roll and I LOVED IT! LOL
Dan: "Okay, she's alive. She's alive."
famous last words 😂
The scene is easily forgotten but Gale essentially gave Beetee the idea for the delayed explosion. The idea was to use people’s sympathy against them. Draw them in, then hit them again. Katniss saw the hypocrisy in it and was against the idea. After Katniss’ conversation with Snow, she recognized Gale’s hunting trap within the bomb design that got her sister, and knew Snow was telling the truth. In the books, there was no question that it was from Gale’s design.
Katniss was never for a Capitol Hunger Games. She agreed only because she had full intentions of getting rid of Coin
I really enjoyed watching you both review these movies.
Last paragraph of the book, before the epilogue:
"Peeta and I grow back together. I tell him, "Real."
And end of the epilogue:
'My children, who don't know they play on a
graveyard.
SOBBING RN
I screamed and cried when I finished reading the book
Okay I'm rereading the books again! 😭
Cringe
@@aj897 Why are you even on this video if you're going to be a snotty hater about people discussing the story? Go eat a snack and learn to scroll kiddo
I love all the Gale hate 😂
YEAH! Last 2 parts consists of endless amounts of "Oh, shut up Gale!" LOL
Not the yellow flower, like primrose 😭
Katniss voting yes is a charade, because everything she did was to protect Prim from the games. So her voting yes in her name is to show she has a plan. That is why Haymitch also said yes
She’s not interested in revenge against what snow did to her, I feel, cause then she would have killed snow at the greenhouse, not publicly like coin wanted. But she wanted to kill coin cause everything she did was for her sister and the thought of another while with a president like snow, who would want to suppress children to scare the people like what happened when prim got elected as a tribute was even more important to her than revenge
"Just a maiming perhaps, Dan!" - Me and Jack when we're both delusional about Finnick's death
These mutts were a little bit more psychologically terrifying in the books. They smelled like President Snow's roses and hissed Katniss' name. Roses in general tend to trigger her at this point due to the association of the President.
So excited to watch this. PLEASE do ballad of songbirds and snakes!! Your reaction to young snow would be everything
I feel like we can't not do this! I'm really really intrigued to see a young Snow and how he became himself!
@@JackDanReactit’s truely fascinating! There is another movie coming out next year some time
@@JackDanReact Ballad Of Songbirds and Snakes became my favorite movie from this franchise!
watching Katniss yell at Buttercup in their house once they get back to 12, rips my heart into pieces. every. single. time. jen did an amazing job with these movies but especially this one
Literally every single time 😭
Idk if you noticed, right after shooting Coin, Katniss goes to take the nightlock pill and kill herself. That's why peeta looked at her like that. She stopped her from killing herself
(And please check out the comments on why she voted yes to the hunger games!
1:10:22 the look on his face is even more devastating because she was reaching for her nightlock pill to kill herself 😭
I hate this man 😂😂
Jack is visibly giddy with pure romantic anticipation of a Katniss/Peeta happy ending for 90% of the movie & then drops 'consensual strangling is ok right?' 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The ending of this is so brutal & I'm glad this series is getting the recognition it deserves from a male audience. you're not the 1st react channel I've seen who dismissed this series as 'teen girl fodder' amidst the Twilight era & now realise how good they are.
There's proof that 'muttations' included humans in the first book, where Katniss spots that the dog-like mutts from the first games have the same eye and hair/fur colour as the fallen tributes from the 74th games - as well as collars with numbered tags indicating their district:
"The green eyes glowering at me are unlike any dog or wolf, any canine I’ve ever seen. They are unmistakably human. And that revelation has barely registered when I notice the collar with the number 1 inlaid with jewels and the whole horrible thing hits me. The blonde hair, the green eyes, the number . . . it’s Glimmer." - Ch. 25, THG
Not only did the Capitol's mutts include humans, but they also included children.
damn i did not know that, that's very unfortunate :"
Prim dying and Katniss' grief makes me sob everytime. It's just so emotional knowing she went through all of this for Prim and Prim was just another innocent kid who was my favorite character. The movie does such a good job at making it hit hard.
I was procrastinating my studies anyways now i have a reason-
I meaaaaan, you’re probably due a break anyway I say 👀 get a drink and sit betwixt!
When you notice Snow is the only person that gave Katniss condolences for the loss of her sister.
i'm so incredibly happy they turned into peeta stans, them supporting gale so much in the beginning was the only thing bothering me
no but honestly, this was such a fun series, thanks 4 the great time!!!
One thing I’ve noticed since the first movie reaction is how good Dan is at guessing lolll
suggestion: as above so below
the only time that a movie crew was allowed to film inside the real Paris catacombs
i second this!
Yes!!!
So underrated!
The most we can do is work for peace and live to make it last as long as we can.
katniss saved an entire nation just to lose her main reason.
RIP prim rose everdeen
looking back both snow and katniss kept their promise of never lying to each other. also haymitch never said yes to the new hunger games. he knew katniss was going to do something else and that is his way of saying that he has her back. and the fact katniss started this whole thing to protect prim just to lose her in the end. such good writing.
All my homies hate Gale. 😂
But in All seriousness, it was impressive how S. Collins managed to make Gale a cautionary tale. War is a slippery slope
It’s 10 years of reading the books and watching the movies over and over again for me but I still cry so hard every time Finnick dies
What a journey! So glad to watch it along with you all. The scenes of the capital civilians and on always get me.
She seems to be a very intentional writer, so I believe she would stand by her decision with Finnick.
if you ever watch Ballads of Songbirds and Snakes PLEASE remember Tigris. She's such a major character but was featured here only for a few minutes
If you guys didn’t know this already, there’s a prequel about snow called the ballad of songbirds and snakes if you’re ever interested and you get to see a bit more of tigris and snow’s backstory and a lot of things makes a little more sense. AND here’s some of the last “paragraphs” in the epilogue
“Peeta and I grow back together. And she refers to Peeta throughout the books)
“They play in the meadow. The dancing girl with the dark hair and blue eyes. The boy with blond curls and gray eyes, struggling to keep up with her on his chubby toddler legs” (in the books Peeta had blue eyes and curly blonde hair and Katniss had dark hair and gray eyes)
“My children, who don’t know they play on a graveyard. Peeta says it will be okay. We have each other. And the book. We can make them understand in a way that will make them braver.” (Peeta, Katniss, (and I think) Haymitch made a memory book to commemorate important people in their lives who had died)
The notif I've been waiting for! I'm as betwixt as possible 😂
Ah hell yeah! Get on in here! 😅 hope you enjoy the video 😊 (betwixt of course)
Maximum betwixtment happening here too! :D
They give us 0 time to grieve the deaths in this movie before moving on.
one of my favourites parts of the movie I fear. adds to the realism.
3:10 It’s not finished tough, there’s still the prequel about young President Snow for you to watch! Pretty please???? 😂❤
You guys needs to watch the prequel it’s called the ballad of songbirds and snakes
The constant hate Jack spat on Gale.. Ughh, I’m living! 😂
Alma Coin = "All My Coin"............................. that + Effie disliking from the start made me suspect her 😱😱😱😱
“The girl on fire? She’s the girl on fire now”😂😂
I think we’ve found the number one Peeta stan
I just wanted to share, that final bit of Katniss talking to her child was taken straight out of the end of the final book, too. And I'm so glad it was, because it is one of the most accurately nailed endings ever. Like *yes*. *That* was the exact thing the story needed at the end.
And there are much worse games to play. Ugh, it hits hard every time.
Just in case you see this, there are some good comments explaining about Gale and the bomb.
And there's a comment by a user I think called Gabriel Oliveira that's really great too
“genocidal gale” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I found your channel after you'd already released the Mockingjay part 1, so I've decided to wait for part 2 and only then watch your reaction to the whole series at once. I really like your input, seeing who's your favourite character and moment and why and I'm also glad you joined team Peeta in the end. And the moment Jack got jumpscared by the mutts in the first movie will probably always be my favourite jumpscare reaction 😂
My personal headcanon (which formed during my first time watching Catching Fire) is that Haymitch and Effie get together once the war is over and travel together, coming back to 12 at the end of each journey to catch their breath and catch-up with Katniss and Peeta before they depart for another adventure.
I hope they also watch The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
RIP Primrose Everdeen you would have loved TikTok dances and bubble tea
You guys really should read the book, sooo much more detail, and waaay darker than the movie. Shows alot more gore and how twisted and devastating this whole series really is... Overall, an amazing amaaazing book!!! I fell in love with it within the first page
Now although they did an amazing adaptation, it kinda failed to portray how dark this book is, bc what katniss is always thinking about killing herself. After ending with coin she is about to pull the nightlock out of her mockingjay suit to kill herself, since her sister was gone everything she fought for died with her, and also bc she thought she would be executed anyway for killing coin, so she was ready to end it all but thanks god peeta was there to avoid it
Fun fact: the kids in the epilogue are Jennifer’s nephews
You don't know how happy I was to wake up(I'm in Australia)and see your reaction to this was up 😅
Somehow you made me laugh during Mockingjay part 2, so quite a feat!
Can I just say, I love how much Jack routed for Peeta, and how excited he was at the end to see him back at District 12. And the hate for Gale too! "Oh fuck off Gale mate" 😂😂
Btw, Gale was involved in creating the bomb that killed Prim.
Loved them so much 🤍
I swear this •_• is your face half of the time and it’s hilarious
Needed a good cry today anyway 😢 😊
Oh man, this is the movie for it 😭 hope you’ll enjoy the video! (Devastating storyline aside 😅)
Ah I'm sorry. Whatever's going on I'm sending cuddles🫂
Its fine. Crying is actually pretty beneficial for mental health. Best just to go with it.
same🫂
@violet_eyez Now watching Moulin Rouge..what could possibly go wrong 🤔? I swear I watch movies with a central theme.🙄
idk if you noticed but katniss was ready to take a nightlock pill at the end there, and peeta stopped her right before she got dragged away after shooting president coin
I hope you guys watch The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
Yay my two favorite British boys 🎉🎉 I’ve been waiting patiently for this
Get on in here! Hope you enjoy 😊
"Gale's given me the ick since day one, Dan. Always been a Peeta stan myself". SAME Jack, SAME.
Was NOT expecting that reaction to Tigress
I love Jack and Dan I live more for their moments together than I do the movies .
Finnick dying just as he was about to finally live the life he deserved is the biggest crime in media and I will never forgive Suzanne Collins for it.
the hunger games is one of my favorite film series and its been a pleasure to rewatch it with you guy's commentary. definitely one of my favorite watchalongs, with great thoughts and plenty laughs, so thank u❤ i will definitely be rewatching them from time to time.
What an ending, I hope you guys watch the prequel movie as well!
your guys reactions to this entire series was so on point, i’m glad i got to witness this again for the first time through you both……
cant wait for the ballad of songbirds and snakes
I’m soo happyy we’re finally here!
I'm so glad I discovered you guys through this series. I have really enjoyed watching you go on this journey. Thanks for making such great content!
I never thought I'd laugh so much at a reaction to Mockingjay part 2! What have you two done to me?!🤦🏻♀️🤣🤣🤣
15:07 embarrassing how much I laughed at this 😭😭😭
I died at 15:09 when he covered his mouth with his hands still in the symbol 😂😂
Y'all should definitely watch Songbirds and Snakes
I always hold myself together, and then Peeta is there gardening and hands Katniss the Primroses and I become a wreck. 😭
Came across you less than a week ago. Subscribed immediately after the first Hunger Games reaction. Binged your series in a day. I've been waiting on this. Thank you!
Loved this series of reactions! I hope you'll watch the prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
Funny quib about the Toronto walking distance-I recently had an argument with my British partner because my whole life I thought an hour walk is pretty standard to and from mid-town to downtown. Hillarious
Everything Dan says sounds like he's flirting at all times and it's glorious
The tickle😂😂😂
*And the Beyblade reference, only for true connoisseurs
Honestly it was pretty traumatising 😂
@JackDanReact definitely looked like it was
