    I always think of the staff that kept these places going. The kitchen staff, the maids, butlers and gardeners. Keeping food on the table and the house clean under probably stressful conditions. Thanks as always for keeping the history alive. It's really appreciated. =-)

    Oh my goodness this is a wonderful home. I applaud those who r tasked to maintain the house & gardens or do it cuz they simply love it &wish to keep history alive!! My jaw dropped when I saw the first bed 😮. It’s utterly stunning. The 2nd bed is equally as stunning but the addition of the hand-embroidered “drapery” (I don’t know it’s proper name) tops it right off. I loved the fireplaces as well, each having its own charm. I truly enjoy watching y’all’s videos. Thank u for making them. They mean so much to me. Take care 😉

      It is such a lovely hall and I feel its probably underrated and not that visited. As you say amazing inside and furnishing and drapery is like nothing you see today.

    Why is it? The older the house, the better I like it! All that carved wood, all the care and attention that went into creating living spaces that I find most charming and suited to country ways! Never mind the lack of plumbing, lack of central heating, lack of electrical wiring! I'd rather live with the ghosts (and the crashing chimneys)! Thank you, M.S., for taking this wonderful tour for your viewers!

    Thank you for the wonderful mid-week surprise! I love how carefully the interior of Oakwell Hall has been restored, and staged to reflect how people of the time would have lived. I imagine the original ceiling would have been impressive. Those early carved beds are fantastic...three of them! The embroidered hangings are the icing on the cake. As an American, when I first saw a preview for "Last Tango in Halifax", I figured it was about people in Nova Scotia. Now I know better! Cheers, guys. :)

    Thanks for this little extra treat! How interesting those painted 3D panels were. And can you imagine hanging your clothes where you do your business? What were they thinking? 😂 The gardens are lovely. This really is a well maintained and beautiful property. I easily see someone living in there today. Thanks Will and Simon! Much appreciated ❤

    Thanks for another very interesting video. May I ask what we are seeing at 4.12? Is is a strangely shaped fire grate? And thanks for informing my fellow Canadians about the original Halifax 🙃

    • @MemorySeekers
      @MemorySeekers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question Diana, I had a look on google for some similar photos of fires of that period but nothing comes close. I am going to take a stab at saying the shape helps keep the fire tightly contained and hot with a small amount of wood? The small shelves at the sides to keep a pot of water warm? What were your thoughts on why it might be like that.

    Nice one fellas, grew up in Batley but only visits were being dragged around on field trips from Batley High School 😎 Was the hall part of the Joseph Priestly history too? Also there is a present Fieldhead estate(housing/school) near by at Wilton Hall(or house). I have long since left the area. Cheers DougT

      Apart from all the servants running up and down and the King Charles Spaniels? Yep. The Upper Crust tended not to sleep with their equine mounts at this period of British history. 😉

    Why is it that many wealthy "Pop Stars", including the Rolling Stones, sing 'rebellious' songs yet have, in the main, bought historic houses!!!??? Even Andy Warhol had a very large apartment furnished by VX11 c furniture, paintings, carpets and Objects D'Art!?

    Back then the servants probably got very little wages if any, board and lodgings and a couple of Pennie’s a month, I really have no idea but I doubt they got much.
