Iconography is so important. I remember when I was 23/24 yrs old, and I told my grandmother, “I don’t believe, I don’t think I believe in God.” 😫😭(Lord forgive me!)
She didn’t chastise me or scold me. She simply gasped slightly, looked at me gently, got up from her kitchen table, went into her bedroom, and came out with an icon of St.
George slaying the dragon. She simply held it, showing it to me silently, and without a word gave it to me, and I took that Icon with me back to the city to my apartment, and that icon stayed with me for every apartment I ever lived in, and every woman I lived with in sin 😫😭 and years and years later when I returned to our Faith, I always remembered that moment with the icon. She didn’t preach, holler, throw Scripture at me or anything like that. My Γιαγιά (grandmother) let St. George do all the talking. ☦️🙏🏻

I am new to Orthodoxy, and I am now in the process of joining the Greek Orthodox Church here in Kansas City. I come from a ruff background here in the City, and just found out about Fr. Turbo, and his church here in my old stomping grounds. I have not been back to that part of the city since I was I was a criminal and addict. I am going to stop in for vespers tonight, so that I can light a candle and pray for my best friend that just passed away unexpectedly.

Father Turbos channel/podcast "The Royal Path" is such a hidden gem! It is one of my very favorite channels on TH-cam. Thanks for the great stream! Thank God.
Also, thats incredible that Father came to the church by the icon; I've talked to folks in my parish who had a similar experience, they see an icon and it is the first time they see something Holy and it starts them on the path. Glory to God for icons

“When thoughts are choking me like so many thorns, I enter the church, the hospital of souls. The beauty of the Icons delight my vision like a verdant meadow, and without my noticing it stirs my soul to praise God.” St. John of Damascus
Our parish email had this quote in it. Thought it a very fitting summary of this stream!

Live Streaming the Liturgy is definitely not how it is supposed to be experienced. We are participating in the Kingdom of Heaven, not spectating it.

I love the “where is everybody?” story because when I first came to an Orthodox Church, I closed my eyes one time during liturgy and it just felt like the place was crowded, packed like sardines. There were only about 10 other parishioners there! So crazy

15:16 This reminds me of that part in "The Idiot" when myshkin is in Rogozhin's house and he has a hyper realistic painting of Christ in his tomb hanging up and he remarks something along the lines of "it's enough to make a man an atheist"

When I pray to Christ or the Saint by gazing at a beautiful icon, God sometimes grants a deep communion with the person depicted. I can honestly say that on a few occasions the Uncreated Light has shown out from the image and the person appears to be alive right in front of me.
With a blessing from your SF, I pray that all of you will develop a practice of focused gentle gazing in prayer with your favorite icon and stay with your attention focused on the image as you pour out your heart to the Person depicted…see what God might do… as He wills by Grace…🙏🏻☦️❤️‍🔥

I would go as far as to say all advertising is pornography.. I think it was James Joyce or maybe Joseph Campbell talking about Joyce that said the difference between true art and pornography is if it makes you desire what is portrayed.. so advertising and even a realistic art that makes you want what is shown is porn.. and real art "arrests" you.. stops you in your tracks and takes you out of yourself..

Amazing stream, thank you both so much... This topic is completely spot on!! This may be old news, but I was wondering if you have ever noticed the similarity between the cathode ray tube, the mechanism that projects the image onto the black mirror, and the biological eye? I noticed the other day and was totally creeped out.

@HHH Different Biblical manuscript traditions. There's a lot to the conversation, and I'll give a shameless plug for my godfather's project, 'The First Bible of the Church (FBC)' on YT, which briefly describes this. This leads to differences in old and new testaments, most often in western-produced texts. The Orthodox Study Bible attempts to remedy this, but does it by using the NKJV and making edits. Not the ideal option, though.

I was unable to superchat live because i was driving but i sent in a paypal. I'm curious about corinthians 11:14 and its interpretation in the eastern and oriental orthodoxy. I'm new to eotc and they dont seem to be as lenient with this as the eastern orthodox. I'm not talking about waist length, more like shoulder length. Is it cause for concern or just a historic precept?
