Thanks for this video. I just built it to replace the bigger and power hungry Pi 4B based Roon endpoint. This sips like 1W - so the yearly consumption should be less than 10kWh!
One minor issue I ran into: the OTG adapter you reference makes for a tight fit because the ports on the Zero are spaced for narrow micro USB, not the wider USB A connectors. So, I used a dongle style adapter instead.

"Must have" for all Roon users id say. Possibility to make everything able to play music as roon endpoint for 15 bucks + DAC with USB input is wonderful. Many thanks for video.

Thanks for sharing. Been waiting for mine to show up. I’m going to use a dac hat with mine. Plan on using the HiFi berry Dac2 HD and for now run hifiberry OS LITE.

Could you add a link to comment section
? I think the Battery power source smooths out ripple and therefore makes the system better

Great stuff! I love those raspberry PIs! That zero 2 is about as capable as the full sized 3, absolutely insane!

Can you use the regular Pi Zero W?

I don't think Ropiee supports it.

Chris, while the $15 hardware is attractive. I would end up spending about $500 in my time to do the programming and I am not a programmer. I would appreciate another video for us non programmers reviewing the RoPee and other simpler options. By the way, some time back John Darko reviewed the Xiaomi Mi Box S. That was available last Xmas season for about $45. No programming needed and is an out of the box Roon endpoint. So far in terms of price and effort expenditure, that is the cheapest Roon endpoint around. But if you can review the other non programming options that would be great. Thanks.

Mi box runs on android = it will cut music to max 48khz if I'm not mistake.

@@nosurname9652 true. No free lunch. But comparing time, effort, money and the amount of music to play above 96khz it’s a winner in my opinion.

That is not “programming” but just configuration. This is not as difficult as it looks and if you give it a go, I think you would find it a lot of fun.

      Huh?
      $100+ for a Pi Zero?
Micro Center has them at regular prices.
