  • The very idea of a sports car is evolving rapidly, with the days of V8-powered coupes more or less gone. Instead, we're getting increasingly immersed in the era of performance-focused electric cars, the vast majority of which are SUVs - yep, times are changing.
Case in point: the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, which takes its name from a V8, two-door sports car but is, in fact, a hi-po electric SUV. But it's not the only grand-touring, zero-emissions mid-sizer in the segment, as the Kia EV6 GT is one of its direct rivals. So, in this expert comparison review, CarsGuide Senior Journalist Richard Berry's pits the two models head to head to find out which is best.
The Mustang Mach-E GT brings 358kW of power and 860Nm of torque to the table alongside a 0-100km/h sprint time of 3.7 seconds, while the EV6 returns fire with 430kW/740Nm and a triple-digit dash of 3.5s. But there's more to a sports car than just straight-line performance...

You forgot EV6’s greatest advantage on Mustang : charging speed 10-80 of only 18 minutes (really !). And that makes the difference on long trips.

You asked why EVs have weird door handles. One reason is that EVs are different, the door handles are different, and different can be interesting, if not always better (see pretty much everything Tesla does).
The other, and better, reason is that EVs are very sensitive to aerodynamics. Typical door handles may not seem like much, but they actually create a significant amount of drag, almost as bad as the side mirrors, and even a small amount of drag can have a noticeable affect on range and efficiency. They are also a major source of wind noise which is all the more apparent without an engine masking it.
There aren't a lot of easy ways to reduce drag and wind noise left, so designers went with flush door handles and are starting to do away with side mirrors as well.
I do think the Mach-E takes it a little too far, though. At least the Kia's handles will still work if the electronics fail.

All of the glass of the Mach-E GT is formulated to avoid solar energy transfer. It's not the problem you might imagine from the total square inches of glass, and this is their excuse for not having ventilated seats with the all black interiors. It's not a problem. :-)

Sometimes you JUST need to get out of the sun...its a cost cutting measure not to have a blind.

Those efficiency metrics must be weighed against overall weight & cargo capacity to determine value. Very few channels acknowledge this. In that way, the Mustang is _much more efficient._
I am seeing as high as 4.0 miles per kilowatt-hour in my GT PE... at typically less than motorway speeds. I deliberated for a long time between these two... and, ultimately, the greater utility, power, and range vs. weight & capacity ratios, along with the MagneRide suspension, were what determined whether I would buy a Mach-E or an EV6.

The rear is what turned me away from the ev6. Just not my cup of tea. Besides that I liked the car over the Mach e GTP. The discounts and interest rates (0%) on the Mach e are pretty good and pushed me in that direction. The ev6 Gt is way more money here right now.

Ford design is so dated. No wonder the company is struggling to sell their EVs
