Man I wish they still had the Passat... the new Passat looks so good and they have a lot of the nice things that this Tiguan has. Volkswagen is really making some of their newer generation stuff feel really nice and much more premium. Shame automakers don't want to give the sedan a chance anymore.
They do still have a lot of sedans just not in the North American market, specifically America and Canada. Let's face it Americans & Canadians have spoken with their wallets as to what people want and automakers can't make cars that people won't buy, that's how you go out of business.
Its not the carmakers Jeeves. People don't buy sedans. They also don't buy manuals either. At least not enough of them to make it profitable and keep the price down.
I always loved VW ambient lighting it’s crazy it’s a bit better than their Audis at times. And the fact they offer rear heated seats on this is a win, that was all my friends favorite feature on my 2019 Jetta. Might just upgrade to an SUV finally
Looks great. Only gripe is 20 inch wheels on top trim. Give us a choice of 19s please. 20s with 40 series tires are not pothole friendly for a nice family SUV.
The Tiguan is just the most affordable SUV to buy when it comes to styling and so much tech that we wanted. And it is just brilliant of how the crossover looks. This 3rd Generation Tiguan is outstanding.
Owned a 2022 Tiguan, loved the look of that one when it came out, probably my favorite model in the mainstream compact SUV segment. New one is even better. Never cared about the capacitive controls on the wheel because they worked well with the haptic feedback and the amount of force required to press them. Just hated they were gloss black. The AC controls were far more annoying because there was no feedback and you have to look down to adjust anything AC related. New one doesn’t seem better in that regard other than being closer to normal driving line of sight. I do wish we’d see more power though. Or an actual R with the Golf R powertrain.
Volkswagen is badass for that red logo emblem lights. Remember seeing it on the road about a year ago I didn't know what vehicle that was till I got closer, its definitely unique.
Aside from the lack of buttons on the center stack I think VW did a fantastic job on bringing us a very premium compact SUV. I’m not a VW fan by any means but this does not belong in just a standard compact SUV class, it’s definitely bordering the line of a luxury compact SUV.
The outgoing model looks more premium and is a timeless design. This one looks like another VW I.D. blob. Needs less tablet, more physical buttons and more HP. Oh, and a TDI. One can always dream.
Psst, that was their design intention. As for the TDI, after Dieselgate? That would be a pipe dream. You will never see a TDI sold in North American again.
It always occurs to me: what were they thinking? My first though is some cost cutter that thinks people won't notice, when its those very (seemingly insignificant) features that push us towards the brand in the first place.
This is a nice looking SUV, overall, even though it looks part Jeep Compass and part Corolla Cross. But what’s this obsession with the big air vents? The interior is really nice. I like that they have the gauge cluster under a hood. Well done by VW!
Touareg only worth it with 3.0 diesel and it is not allowed here…not understood by people. I bet people think tundra with 5.7 engine makes less emissions then 3 Littleton diesel)))
VW doesn't have the brand image in the US as they do in Europe to try bringing the Touareg over. The Touareg is just too premium of a platform for what US buyers would want to pay with a VW badge.
IMO this is now the best looking non-lux compact crossover inside and out. Hands down. And that is coming from someone who has owned newer Subarus and Toyotas. That ambient lighting is tight. Too bad it can't average 65 miles per gallon in an even mix of City/Hwy miles and have 300 horsepower like my Rav4 Prime!
Most vehicle's in it's class dont even have ambient lighting, and VW has the best of them. Then again VW was moreso always been more premium than the vehicles it compares too.
You'll need to purchase the SEL or higher trim levels to get the mood lighting. Just as one does now throughout the range of the Atlas SUVs, Golf GTI's, Jetta's. And with this being available early Spring, along with the MAGAts voting in Hitler 2.0, a tarrif added to the bottom line will put this at 45k-50k easy. Pay up suckers!!!
Wow, this looks nicer than a lot of its luxury counterparts. ambient lighting that is finally unique. The features rival my Volvo. I just hope they offer a hybrid or PHEV, I need more zoom zoom
I wish it had visible dual exhaust, hybrid or plug in options, and hard buttons for the climate controls. It’s definitely an upgrade. Honestly it has more than the RAV4. But I just don’t know.
I’ve got to say, as a Toyota guy VW really up the ante on the entire segment. With the RAV4 being amongst the oldest models in the segment, unless drastic changes have been made for the next generation the Tiguan might become one of the most luxurious models in the segment.
The RAV4 has nothing to worry about from VW. Not even the same buyers. VW buyers want something different but aren't quite ready for Volvo or Audi yet.
@@krane15 that wasn’t my point. Every other manufacturer has updated their models except for Toyota. My point was that the Tiguan is probably the most luxurious out of all of them currently unless the RAV4 can top it. I did not say anything else. The RAV4 even now has more fuel efficient and powerful engines than the new Tiguan, not even mentioning the long term reliability and ease of maintenance aspects of the RAV4.
Once I saw this car had hood props, I could tell VW was trying to up their game again. They’re move into the economy car market with cheapo materials and cost cutting is not why many of us fell in love with VW cars
bro I don’t have to do either, i owe the company nothing. Im just happy to see VW bringing back the small quality things that made them a quality car company and not an econo car
They destroyed the practicality. Sliding 40/20/40 rear bench seat is so useful for people who actually go on trips, have a family involved in multiple sports. Screens and lights don’t improve a car.
It boggles the mind sometimes when they remove the very things that attracted your attention to the car in the first place. I always imagine the cost cutter guy standing behind the design team with his clipboard putting checks in his delete column. Those sliding/reclining seat are the first thing that comes to my mind when I think VW practicality.
This tiguan has all the features in my cousins 2024 Q5 Prestige which is a 65k dollar car, meanwhile this is probably in the 40s. My mom has a 2020 tiguan and it’s almost as smooth and comfortable as a Q5, maybe this one will be on the same level of ride quality if not better. I really think this will be a huge it, especially for those who want a Q5 but a bit more budget friendly.
The exterior looks pretty nice other than the big mouth on the front. The interior looks great and the tech is top notch. Actually looking forward to this if the price is reasonable on the SEL.
My favorite version is still the first gen- it was & is still a tank, the perfect size (can’t stand 3 row small SUV’s) and was more upscale than the Japanese counterparts.
Exactly! We've been needing the Tiguan R in the US for a while now. It has 320hp and would be amazing! It's on the short wheelbase which we also don't get here. I'd be happy with 250 like many vehicles this size has. Supposedly, we should get a phev version with 62 miles of electric range and up to 272hp. That might be the one to get.
If Tiguan is its best selling model why does VW not include the true "R" performance model? You'd think that would capitalize on that selling point above all. I love the Golf R but its too small for my needs. Anyway, I realize that this is an early pre-production model, but its missing a few features from the European models I've seen. For one, those great shades for the rear windows. Still, I'm glad to see the ergo-active seats made it across -- and with a beautiful brown leather too -- but if it comes with the adjustable thigh support. At 6'4, that was one of my primary interest in the car. Especially since none of the others in its class offer it. Speaking of seats, I certainly hope VW reconsiders the sliding/reclining rear seats which was yet another of its traditional greatest selling points. On an all-day road trip, even those small adjustments can be a godsend in creature comforts. Nevertheless, its always good to see additional features added on the updated model, but don't get rid of the unique features that gave the brand its distinction in the first place. BTW, the European model comes with dual (cooled) cell phone chargers. Not sure why they changed it for North America, but my phone won't fit in that small slot especially with the case. I would have preferred a light-colored headliner. One more thing, its adding a lot of Audi-like features, but if it gets too expensive, no one will buy it since North Americans are big on brand identity, and won't pay too much for a VW badge -- even if the quality is as good.
Interesting that VW brought this over rather than the Tayron. I'm eager to get into this car and take a look. Maybe if they have one in green it'll convince us to trade in our Golf Alltrack MK 7.5
That third row was far from useless. If you have kids and their friends to haul that thing comes in clutch! But since nobody has kids anymore, what’s the point in catering to young families. Gotta be rich to get practicality now I guess
So Tiguan gets a nice quality key fob, real buttons on the steering wheel and less shiny plastics on the interior while the all new Gen 'luxury' Audi S5 gets a crappy cheap key fob, buttons removed from the steering wheel which also is the ugliest steering wheel in the lineup and tons of cheap shiny plastics on the inside. Am I the only one buffeled with their latest choices????😮
Actual buttons then give us an actual volume knob and actual climate controls. It lost 200 lbs because there's no third row. the best parts of the rear seats was because they slide and they recline. Where is this beingmade, China, so this isn't a Volkswagen.
I’m a huge VW fan but can’t get behind these new front ends other than that the new interior looks fantastic and the side looks like a Subaru crosstrek.I heard the RLine jumps from $41k to 49k yikes guess I will keep my 2022 R line.
No carmaker makes a jump like that. It would be suicide. Typically under $1,500. The exception would be a complete model makeover such as the Hyundai Santa Fe.
@ I was watching someone who works at VW dealer he is on you tube Reese sells cars he does a great job of showing new VW he said because of all the upgrades he is looking at $45k to $49k which I agree total suicide I would not buy one at that price

There needs to be a Tiguan R or at least GTI power with this ea888. It’ll be nice to have a crossover Golf R equivalent. BMW actually has the closest thing to it right now with the X1 X2 m35.
False. If that's the case you got some pretty crappy LEDs Their design does just the opposite, and VW has among the best in the industry. They can shut down when they detect oncoming traffic approaching.
VW and Mazda just don’t miss, imo. Almost all models are gorgeous
Completely agree!! I wonder what a vehicle would look like if the designed one together 😮

They literally do it in Europe dont they? That would make this the best small suv out there with that drivetrain.
Because of Audi Q5
Asked by literally everybody. We didn’t buy the previous generation because the engine was anemic. Went Volvo and got another 100hp motor over the VW.
Agreed.... If Acura can get 272 HP from their 2.0L Turbo in the RDX - VW should have been able to get close to that.
