    Thank you for your videos. I am new to AD. I have just purchased Ver 2.5.3. Why do some Ellie and Mac Projector files open immediately in AD and others don't? There is no message either for the reason for not opening. I am trying to open the Duchess Jacket pattern.

    • @projectorsewing
      @projectorsewing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@shaminnaicker7637 Hmm, that is odd. Typically if it doesn’t open, there is a popup window asking for a password. You will need to use PDF Stitcher or Sejda.com to remove the password. Another possibility is the fonts are slowing down the upload. Choose “substitute fonts” on the open dialogue to help with that.
      Other issues may be related to computer issues instead of file or program issues.

    Thanks for the video! When I tried opening up my Ellie Mac pattern, it says password when it first starts to open. I just don’t put anything in that password box but find that when I’m done editing the pattern AD says I can’t export the file. I’m assuming it’s because it asked for a password when first opening the pdf. Way to bypass?

      @@Fattiapples yes, you can remove the password by using PDF Stitcher or Sejda.com

    I’m super new to AD. When I start the program that menu thing on the far right with the colors and layers, etc does not show up. How do I make it appear? Also, when you use view then zoom, does it change the dimensions of the pattern? There was something I zoomed in AD or Stitcher, and it changed the pattern, making the 2 inch-square box be 2-1/4 inches square. That is why I’m asking.

    • @projectorsewing
      @projectorsewing  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Are you on a desktop or iPad? On the desktop, press shift+H. That hides and unhides the right menu.
      Stitcher doesn’t zoom and AD shouldn’t change the pattern when you zoom. But, the units of measurement are very important. Make sure you are using inches and not points or pixels. Then, recheck your square.

      @@projectorsewing thank you so much for answering! I use my MAC laptop for AD. Does shift +H still apply? I used it before soon after watching your tutorial , and was even able to use it to have just one pattern piece at a time so I would not need splicing in Ditto. My goal with AD is to get proficient enough to do things like change garment length, and maybe even change a neckline. I’m seeing it makes a difference what the pattern company did in creating the digital pattern. If it doesn’t have layers I haven’t been able to show just one size at a time, and wish I had another way to either color certain lines or “disappear” them. I have successfully used chalk to draw a new hemline right on the fabric and used the rest of the projected image to cut, and also used chalk and a ruler to “expand” the waistline of a top right on the fabric… but I’d love to do that in AD so it’s permanently in the pattern. Thank you for all your help.

    I’ve used PDF Stitcher successfully and I’ve used Affinity Designer successfully. I use designer to remove pattern pieces from the page then rotate the one large piece left. (such as front or back bodice) But the last two times I’ve used it, on the screen the measurement looks right but then after exporting as a PDF and projecting it, the pattern piece is miniature, about half the size it needs to be. I always save to a new file and keep my original, and I have ended up just using the stitched file with layers removed and all the pattern pieces on the page. I did figure out I can change to “pixel persona” and the color wheel panel shows. I did try command + shift + H (on my Mac, it is command instead of control) and that works to see the layers panel but not the color wheel. What am I doing wrong, to make my patterns get exported as PDF’s at half the size they should be? On the screen they are the right size, I used the ruler to see that.
    Oh- when you set up your tools do they save that way so you have them when you open the software again?
    I want to be able to use Designer to digitally shorten a pattern piece
    Or modify or remove a dart, etc.

      Is your exported file larger than 200”x200”? That would shrink it to be used in a PDF reader. Also, double check that you are working in the right units with the pattern.
      You will find colors under the stroke panel on the right. There should be no need to go to the pixel persona.
      Yes, the tools should save.
      Macs typically use “command” when windows use “CTRL” for shortcuts.

    Hello. When I export from Affinity Designer to adobe my layers do not come over. Help please

    • @projectorsewing
      @projectorsewing  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Make sure all the layers are turned on before exporting.
      Or there is a little box under “Area” uncheck it “don’t export layers hidden by export persona”.
      That should fix it for you!

    I have imported my pattern into AD. I am sewing a top and the dress option pieces are also appearing. How do I quickly delete the dress pattern pieces without using the layers panel to uncheck each piece? Thanks

    • @projectorsewing
      @projectorsewing  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You could use your mouse and drag to select the pieces and delete, but that would permanently delete the pieces.
      If you select the pattern piece and right click, you can choose “find in layers panel” and it will highlight the piece which you can turn visibility on or off.
      Another way to make sure you don’t cut them you can make a note in large text over the pattern, cover it with a filled rectangle drawn over the pieces, or use the pen tool in a large stroke to put an X over the pieces you don’t want.

    My layers are t as organized as this from the file.. am I going to have to go through a d group these by size?

    • @projectorsewing
      @projectorsewing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Bummer! Some files do not show well, depending how the file is made. It’s possible that the original file does not have layers. Is the original file layered when you open it in Adobe Acrobat reader?
      Without seeing a picture it’s hard to diagnose.Try ungrouping first.
      You can also click on the layers in the layers panel and check that they are not just named weird.
      You can also delete layers you don’t need in PDF Stitcher.Then, if you need to group layers in AD, there won’t be as many lines to work with.
      You can also post this question with pictures in the “Affinity Designer for Sewing” Facebook group!

      @@projectorsewing It's more grouped together but I figure a way around it. Just deleted the other sizes that we didn't need.

    GREAT Information. I am playing on a E&M Tee Dress Projector file and all the layers are in what looks like a different language. Everything else is English. Do you know how to correct?

    • @projectorsewing
      @projectorsewing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Sometimes this happens to the instructions and how they are embedded into the pattern. Is it a bunch of numbers? It can sometimes be fixed by changing the settings when you import the document.
      Try unchecking “favor editable text over fidelity”. If that doesn’t work, it is usually the instructions for “Cut 2, 1 main, 1 lining” (or similar). I’ll just use the text tool and type in the instructions if I need too. I’ll use the original pattern to double check instructions. If I find another work around I’ll let you know!

      Thank You. It did not change but I was able to figure out by unchecking off the box to see what was changing. I expect as projector patterns become more the norm this will correct itself out. Now to figure how to save all the changes….
