  • LEARN DIGITAL SEWING PATTERN MAKING ON AFFINITY DESIGNER:
Today I'm going to be showing you how to get your digital sewing patterns onto a multipage PDF document. It will ensure that when you print them at home on an A4 standard size printer, they stick together perfectly and don't affect your pattern in anyway.

I am making a pattern for the Knit Radar on a Knitmaster 700 knitting machine, which will take A4 sheets sidways on and taped together. Can I ask you : at the end of your video, after saving it as pdf, when you opened your pattern with Adobe, the border didn't show. It appeared on the final printed pattern only. Thanks a lot for this great vidéo that helped me so much ! Just one question about a problem than I cannot fix, maybe you will be able to help me. I am working on multisize patterns. The problem is that when I export the document with the different pages and layers, I end up with layers for each A4 page and not for the whole document. So the person who would like to display only one size must uncheck all the sizes page by page, which becomes complicated when you have 12 sizes on 20 pages ! Did you find a solution to fix this problem ? Thanks again for your work

I followed your instructions yesterday and was so happy because I was able to print out my large pattern on 5 pieces of paper but I decided to change my pattern slightly today and now when I print it up, it's not set very evenly on the 4 pieces of paper. I'm thinking it has something to do with how I placed my pattern on 4 artboards and I can't figure out how to fix it. I don't have individual pattern pieces. It's one 16 1/2" by 12 1/2". I copied it 4 times and pasted it 4 times. How do you determine where you should paste it?

Do you know how that is done and if you do, can you possibly make a video to teach us, learn as we go types? I don't know if you do this, but I highly recommend placing an inch and cm test square(s) for scale checking the printout, to the first page of your final layout before exporting.

Hi Lilliane, yes this is possible. I personally would do this on a separate PDF but it's personal preference. Just make the PDF document in the same way and instead of adding pattern pieces, add text using the text tool and write it in a chronological order. Hope that makes sense! You probably know this now, but here goes anyway! If you shift click or left click n drag each of your top row artboards then ctrl-j it will paste the lot. Last bit, do you have your artboards saved as presets? "Thanks for sharing, Graeme Brumfitt"

It seems no matter how I cut and paste… it’s just completely invisible. I noticed there is a description of (pixel) next to my pattern, maybe that’s why it won’t paste to the art board?
