    2:29 - Crossroad Grave
    4:45 - Roman Road

    10:35 - Fake Monument
Its the 1st Jan 2021... yay. This week we take a look at some quirky history in Harewood Forest including 4 different topics. If you dig deep its surprising how much history you can find on your doorstep. We cover an old Roman Road, a cross road marking, some old ww2 ammunition storage, some earthworks and finally a 1000 year old tale with its fake monument.

Hi Paul. A way back I watched the Roman road episode and noted you are lucky enough to have a copy of ‘Ivan D. Margary’s Roman Roads in Britain’ sadly now long out of print. My wife Chrissy had a long and successful career in Libraries before retirement and managed to borrow a copy from the British Library service. What an amazing compilation, I could not put it down. Excellent and thank you very much for pointing me towards it. Well done.

We miss the snow in Terrace B.C., from the year we were there in 1982. Arrived in thick snow Jan 25, finally melted in our back yard by mid June, snow back into the upper tree line by mid September. Brown and black bears all over!

It's great when we do real cold in the UK. But it's rare. Everything looks so crisp, white and fresh, the ground is hard underfoot, the snow is dry powder or the frost is gloriously crisp and they day out is really enjoyable with nothing worse that a good cup of hot Bovril won't cure. I was talking to a Latvian girl who swore that anywhere hovering around zero here was more miserable than their -30. I think she's right.

Love the video. I think the Roman road has been messed about a bit, as you contend. May I suggest a really good example in the South East, Stane Street running from Chichester to London. At the point where it runs north east up to the South Downs northern escarpment where the South Downs Way runs, the road is easily discerned on the ground. It can be easily accessed too by a road that runs from Bignor(where the famous Roman villa remains are) and terminates at the top of the Downs at a car park.

That reminds me of Camp Bewdley (Which wasn't in Bewdley) a WWII American Army hospital. As a child I played around the derelict buildings and foundations of the wooden buildings that were dismantled and relocated. There was a road network and other infrastructure, including a water tower that still exists.
Nature has pretty much taken part of the land back almost obliterating man's efforts, and the area where the HQ was is now a housing estate. As a side note, the abandoned railway through Stourport-on-Severn ran close by and was undoubtedly used extensively by the Americans.
So, should you wish to do video on the canal and railway of Stourport I can show you Camp Bewdley too, I even have a book for reference.

Did you find the remains of any brick squares In the woods? Here in snowy Berkshire, ammunition was stored in Swinley Park just to the south of Bracknell. There were also brick-built rectangular water tanks in case the ammo stores were hit by incendiary bombs so that was water on hand to fight the fires

Fun fact, if the coroner found that the cause of death was suicide, your estate was forfeited to the state.

Very interesting walk through Harewood forest. Although I’ve lived around Andover since the mid 60s, that’s one place I’ve never visited.
Rebecca was very chatty. You normally trot along behind without saying a word. Nevertheless, it looked great fun. Good, entertaining video.

Hi. I don't know if you remember. but the videos that you did heading towards Saltburn, Redcar. on the old disused railway line. I made comments I like that your covering the old line. plus I commented about things in the town of Brotton. Well sadly I have some sad news. at this present moment the engine shed in Brotton is being knocked down. iv heard that area that was railway land. with a buried engine turntable is to be built on. all new houses. Its sad to see old buildings go

Hi Jon, unfortunately we don't see all comments for various reasons, but do try and reply where possible. Thats a real shame to hear, is there nothing that can be done to stop this? Seems to easy these days to pile through history in this way!

@@pwhitewick Hi. you did replay saying you couldn't complete the journey due to virus lockdown. I'm sorry to say the destruction of the engine shed has happened. I went out my way to see the damage. only to see a pile of rubble. how far they are going at this time I don't know.

Hi Paul, Rebecca, as paul was looking at a model class 37, do you have a modek layout ?
If so , can you do a video of it please.

That was a rather delightful walk and talk. One reason, by the way, that you would dig holes into the ground to place you bombs is because should the Germans happen to drop a bomb on them, they blow up and out and won’t necessarily explode the rest of the bombs. That and its easier to pull camouflage over them. Kings seem to have a habit of wanting it their way you know. 😂
