  • In this episode of my series “Walks in Hampshire”, I take a walk in and around the village of Longparish, which is situated about 4 miles East of Andover. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.
I park my car by the church and start my five mile circular walk with a wander through the village. Longparish is made up of five small hamlets & I walk along the main street, past the cricket pitch (Longparish Cricket Club was established in 1878), The Plough Inn and a number of pretty thatched cottages.
After visiting the Church of St Nicholas, I head West along the Test Way towards Forton. Sadly I don't get the see any of the river but Forton itself is a quite enchanting hamlet.
Crossing the B3048, I head North over the disused railway line towards Ridgeway Copse which is on the edge of Harewood Forest. At this point, I take a detour to explore the Deadman's Plack Monument (which marks the supposed site where King Edgard killed hos favourite courtier, Aethelwald, in 963AD.
I then retrace my steps and follow The Middleway (a quite country road) back towards Longparish. Along the way, I cross over the disused railway line (over a road bridge) and re-join the Test Way.
My final destination is The Plough back in the village.

The course of true love did never run smooth - great story at Deadmans Plack and not surprised the lady ended up in a nunnery!! The deer were special - as were the pint and crisps at the end!! Thanks for another great watch.

Dave it still amazes me how ( it shouldn’t though) beautiful the countryside is there. I would love to see this and all the other villages you have visited. You never disappoint on showing the beauty of the churches and homes you come across on these most lovely walks Thank you so much 👏🏻Take care Dave and Logan☀️

Hello Dave and Logan. Lovely walks around there. Oddly enough, despite living just a few miles away, I've never been into Harewood Forest. I'm afraid almost all of the river Test is leased or owned by fishermen, so you won't get very close to it until you reach Wherwell. That was a nice refreshing walk, reminding us of late summer days.

Thanks Lionel. The River Test is one of my favourite rivers in Hampshire. Luckily, as you say, there are opportunities to see it "up close" on sections further South.

Not tried Saxon, Dave, one to add to my ever-expanding list. That church certainly was splendid, every window seemed to be stained glass, obviously a well-heeled area.

I was rather taken by that Saxon! One of the joys of "researching" some of these pubs is the chance to "test out" new ales!

Hi Dave was lovely to see your nice sunny walk! Although was in September and as you said quite autumnal . Just cheered us up to see the blue skies and lovely green fields. Hampshire is so big haven’t heard of half of these places! Is a nice adventure watching your video as usual. Glad Logan enjoyed his salty dog crisps God bless from Sheila and ralph
